LMS installation on VMS

Hi all
Sorry for raising this topic again... I think even in past, there has been discussions on the co-existance of VMS & LMS, but no clear picture.. cisco docs say that these two components can co-exist, but I have a problem now..
I have a VMS 2.2 server with common services 2.2 ... I have RME 3.5, ciscoview, PIX/router/IDS MC's etc installed on this.
Now, if i try to install the LMS components such as DFM and CM, it asks me to disable SSL. I install these components, and when i enable SSL again, it asks me to uninstall DFM & CM. without ssl enabled, I cant work in my ciscoworks... ufff....
Can somebody tell me how to get rid of this ? I dont want to enable LMS on a seperate server...
Raj

You need to install VMS and LMS on separate servers. DFM, CM are not SSL compliant, hence what you're seeing is expected result.

  • LMS Installation

    Hi,
    I just wanted to know that can I install LMS 4.0 on a domain server.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Here are the prerequisites for installing LMS 4.0 along with the Deployment Guide.
    By domain server I assume you mean a machine that is joined to a corporate Active Directory.  This is a common scenario and it does introduce possible complications.
    LMS is really designed to be a stand alone application.  That is, no other 3rd party software should be installed and no changes to the base OS need be made.
    When a server running LMS is attached to a domain you then are open to Group Policy changes, Account Security issues etc.  The predominant problem surrounds the issue that there is a difference between a Domain Administrator and the Local Administrator.  Whenever you are troubleshooting you will want to be the LOCAL Administrator.  The other big issue is when the the user created when you install LMS, casuser, may have its rights diminished or set to have its password expire.  This causes some interesting problems.
    The best practice if you are to join the server to a domain is to do so AFTER successfully installing LMS.  Verify functionality and then join the Domain.  In that way if things function differently you have a starting point.
    Hope that helps.

  • LMS 4.0 not starting after upgrade

    I am running LMS 4.0 on Windows 2008 Server, recently changed from eval copy to licensed (for 750 devices). It had been running and working for several months.The license application worked fine and it ran a couple days that way.
    I then downloaded the CiscoWorks_LMS_4.0.x_WIN2K8_R2.exe patch so that I could upgrade the server OS to Windows Server 2008 R2. Per the instructions in the patch readme I first proceeded to upgrade my server to 2008 R2. Then I installed the patch (patch only).
    After doing this (and restarting the server) CiscoWorks daemons will no longer start. I have confirmed my paging file size (swap) is set to start at 8192 MB (8 GB) as required. I tried manuallly starting (net start crmdmgtd) without sucess. I see the initial dmgt_start_lock lock file in C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\objects\dmgt\ready but none of the other process lock files ever pop in and out as they would normally and the processes (and thus CiscoWorks server) never start.
    Any suggestions?

    The "patch" is as far as I know some sort of launcher for the installation setup.exe.
    When I run the "patch" al I get is the question where my installer is, so I can install LMS.
    I have not yet tried to run this on an existing LMS installation. Nor upgrading the OS on an LMS installation :-)
    Does the "patch" have a different behavior when LMS is already installed?
    If not, I suggest to use the cleansystem.exe in the CSCOpx\bin to remove the current install, reinstall use the patch to launch the installer and restore a backup

  • LMS 3.2 Inventory collection - Job timeouts after ~5h, all devices "Not attempted"

    Hello All,
    We have a strange problem with LMS 3.2 regarding Inventory Collection.
    This problem started immediatelly after the LMS installation/upgrade (LMS 3.2 was installed on a new server, and LMS 2.6 database migrated to it).
    All Jobs finish as failed, with all devices "not attempted".
    Job hangs for a five and a half hours and then reports failed status.
    The symptoms are the same for scheduled jobs and manually created jobs.
    I also have opened a TAC case, but it seems that nothing relevant can be found in the IC_Server.log.
    Also, according to a packet capture, it seems that LMS does collect SNMP data from devices after a job is started...
    We tried to upgrade RME 4.3.0 to 4.3.1.
    One Job immediately after the upgrade was succesful (Inventory was collected for manually selected device), but the next day all Inventory Jobs were failing again with the same symptoms...
    Does anyone have a sugestion where to look for a problem trace?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ragards,
    Jasmina

    Hi Jasmina ,
    Please chech the Existing MDF pacakge :
    go to common service > software center > device update >>> check the checkbox for Cisco works common service   and click on check for updates
    --if there is an Update , please upgarde the MDF version..
    --Similarly look for any Available Device Pacakges update for RME , if there are Upgarde all the Device Pacakages ....
    --After all of the above Task is done , Now re-run the Job and it still fails then share the IC_server.log  again..
    Thanks--

  • LMS 4.2.5 - UserTracking Connected End Host Report not useable

    Hi all,
    trying to understand the different available UserTracking-Reports (Active End Host Report, Dormant End Host, Connected End Host) provided by UserTracking Summary Portlet I struggled with understanding the Connected End Host Report.
    In Docs an End Host in status connected is: End hosts that are connected to the network but do not have its MAC address entry in the connected switch CAM table.
    Executing this Connected End Hosts Report I'm not able to understand the output:
        User Name    MAC Address    Host Name    IP Address    Subnet    Status    Switch    Port    VLAN    Last Seen
    1.                 Connected        Fa0/2   AK-ETH23  14 Dec 2014, 05:17:44
    2.                 Connected        Fa0/13  VLAN0178  14 Dec 2014, 05:17:44
    3.                 Connected        Gi0/15  inactive400  14 Dec 2014, 05:17:44
    4.                 Connected        Fa4/13  VLAN0924  14 Dec 2014, 05:17:44
    5.                 Connected        Gi0/18  inactive400  14 Dec 2014, 05:17:44
    With this output nobody is able to correlate anything; simply a port and a vlan is seen, but no endhost-information/switch or switchport information!
    As this can be seen on different LMS installations, it seems to be a general issue.
    Anybody out the having further information?
    Thanks for your valued feedback.
    Lothar

    Still no explanation from the experts?
    Thanks

  • LMS 4.2 to PI 2.1

    Ok so I have a current bare metal Windows installation of LMS 4.2 managing around 400 devices.
    I recently added some wireless capabilities and so I want to install PI 2.1 to manage that piece, and I was considering collocating this with some other services on a VM host.
    Now here is my dilemma.   Support for LMS seems to be pretty much non-existent and I would like to abandon it.  Will PI 2.1 replace that functionality? Config management, syslog, fault management, etc?  I am trying to decide if I want to spin off my existing LMS installation to a VM and install PI on the LMS hardware.  That decision is predicated on whether or not PI is a viable replacement.
    Is PI support any better than LMS support?  I really have a bad taste in my mouth and if I have to lay out any money for this PI upgrade I would seriously consider jumping ship for something else.
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

    If you're unhappy with the TAC support for LMS, you will find it similar for PI. Personally, I have always received good support from the TAC on LMS.
    PI 2.1 can do about 80% of LMS 4.2's functions. It also has a whole set of functions that LMS doesn't have. See the functional comparison and transitioning documents here.
    The published documentation and body of community knowledge on PI still falls far short of what's available for LMS.
    Also, PI needs to run on either an NCS appliance or as a guest on a VMware ESX hypervisor.

  • HTML DB on VMS?

    Does anyone know if HTML DB is available for installation on VMS databases or if there are any such releases planned?

    We installed HTML DB on Sun Solaris first the HTTP Server on one server and the database instance was on another server. Once we were sure that it was working properly, we just did a second install as outlined on this site: Oracle HTML DB Tips and Tricks
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=18326:54:4879659309426900500::::P54_ID:481
    It worked fine. The thing to realize is that the HTTP Server works on Solaris, HTML DB is mostly a lot of database tables, views and procedures which should install on any platform. We are running the 9.2.0.5 of Oracle on both the VMS and the Solaris servers.

  • Monitoring AES-256 on CiscoWorks VMS 2.3

    We want to monitor our AES-256 VPN tunnels for our environment using CiscoWorks VMS 2.3. Our AES-256 VPN peers is a VPN concentrator with multiple PIX firewalls to our remote sites(hub and spoke design). Will CiscoWorks VMS 2.3 support this architecture for VPN monitoring?
    Thanks in advance,
    Erwin

    The management functions for firewalls, Network IPS, Cisco Security Agents, VPNs, security monitoring, and performance monitoring have been updated with new features or usability improvements. Management Center for IDS Sensors is called Management Center for IPS Sensors for its increased IPS focus. The installation of VMS is faster and more streamlined. Management support for router-based IPS signatures has been added to extend security to the network infrastructure.

  • LMS 4.2 compliance license

    Hello, all
    Recently I look around Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
    Looking Datasheet and Installation guide... and... It's so hard.
    in licensing, I know how Lifecycle and Assuarance licenses are running.
    but, I can't understand about the compliance licensing explanation.
    anyone know what is this?

    The Compliance License allows you to manage the state of your network with respect to many government and industry compliance-related standards such as PCI DSS, SOX, HIPAA, etc. Right now, compliance is only available on LMS 4.2, the license for which is included with PI 1.2.
    If you install only a pure PI 1.2 setup, you will not have access to compliance features. PI 2.0 will include the full compliance functions. Reference.
    If you don't have he compliance license, you will only be able to use the majority of the compliance tools (in an LMS installation) for a trial period of 90  days.
    Cisco also has a a PI 1.2 ordering and licensing guide that explains in some more detail: link.

  • LMS 4.0 Multi-Server setup

    I have a problem setting up a multi-server setup. On my remote LMS/slave servers, I can import the Peer Certificate from my master LMS server and on the slave servers I can import the Master server cert. However, when I go to the Single Sign-On of the slave server it states that the cert is not installed/valid. So, I go back to the Peer Server Certificate setup and look at the cert imported and states it is valid. All self signed certificates.
    Question: Should I make new self signed certs for each server? Or/How do I make new cert within LMS(I believe in the setup you added the values)? Is there a log in LMS that I can check this process?
    From reading the docs, I don't see anything. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    John

    There is a perl script, sslutil.pl, in your LMS installation (under $nmsroot\MDC\Apache) that will allow you to validate your server's certificate. Assuming a  default installation on Windows, you can use:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin\perl.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\MDC\Apache\sslutil.pl"
    from a command window
    My experience (using 3rd party signed certifcates) is that LMS is very particular abou the ownership (casuser needs to own) of the file and directory in which the certificate and key files are stored.

  • LMS 3.2 .hprof files

    Hello,
    We are facing the following issue with our LMS installation:
    Hard disk gets full with .hprof files located at C:\Program Files\CSCOpx .
    These are 'java profiler' dump files.
    Does anyone know a way to disable java dumps?
    Regards,
    Nicos

    Hi Nicos,
    HPROF is a demonstration profiler shipped with the IBM SDK that uses the
    JVMTI to collect and record information about Java execution. Use it to work
    out which parts of a program are using the most memory or processor time. To
    improve the efficiency of your applications, you must know which parts of
    the code are using large amounts of memory and CPU resources. HPROF is one
    of the nonstandard extensions to java, and is invoked like this:
    java -Xrunhprof[:=,...]
    When you run Java with HPROF, an output file is created at the end of
    program execution. This file is placed in the current working directory and
    is called java.hprof.txt (java.hprof if binary format is used) unless a
    different filename has been given. This file contains a number of different
    sections, but the exact format and content depend on the selected options.
    If you need more information about HPROF than is contained in here, see
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Programming/HPROF.html
    So mostly your server is making these logs on the original folder CSCOpx
    whenever there is a Java execution and because LMS is heavily java based
    they all are in the working directory.
    So, in future even if you remove them, they may come again, but in short
    will not impact LMS.
    Thanks

  • Error polling inventory on LMS 3.2

    I've recently rebuilt an LMS 3.2 installation and applied SP 1 (after having a number of issues attempting to patch the existing installation).  The DCR has been slaved to another LMS 3.2 install without SP1 and it has successfully acquired all our network devices.  However, whenever I attempt to run an inventory poll on any device I get this error:  "RICS0001:Internal Error,unable to process the collected data from the device."
    Setting the three ICServer logs to DEBUG results in an error appearing in IC_Server.log stating:  "Device does not exist in RME, Please check if device is already deleted".
    RME is configured to manage all devices, and it definitely exists as I am able to run the same poll on the DCR master without error.
    I have literally just installed LMS 3.2, patched to SP1, updated all device packages in RME and the MDF in CS and slaved the DCR to another LMS installation etc.  Any ideas?
    I've attached the IC_Server.log file if that helps.
    Thanks!

    I tried your suggestion on the DCR master and it worked.  Unfortunately it's not an option for me to delete and readd every device from the master, because we would lose our configuration change history etc. (right?).

  • LMS and HTML launch page

    My AW 7 piece will run on an LMS put out by Plateau. The
    customer is a large corporation and I would prefer that the user
    download a web player from the company's intranet rather than from
    macromedia's web site. It's likely that not all computers have
    access to the internet.
    With my AW7 pieces that are not launched from an LMS, I put
    the web player 2004 installer in the same folder as the html file
    and I use this code:
    <OBJECT ID="AuthorwareShockwaveControl0"
    CLASSID="CLSID:15B782AF-55D8-11D1-B477-006097098764"
    CODEBASE="AW_Web_Player/awswaxd.cab#version=2004,0,0,73"
    width="150" height="55">
    <param name="SRC" value="menu.aam">
    <param name="WINDOW" value="onTopMinimize">
    <param name="PALETTE" value="foreground">
    <param name="DEBUG" value>
    </OBJECT>
    This approach works well.
    I am reluctant to modify the code in the html file (obtained
    thru one button publishing) for the LMS installation because I
    don't want to upset any links between the piece and the LMS. I did
    replace the path to the Macromedia player with a relative path to
    the 2004 player located in the same folder as the html file. I
    replaced:
    value="
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/authorware/awswax70.cab#version=7,0,0,69 ">\n');
    with
    value="AW_Web_Player/awswaxd.cab#version=2004,0,0,73">\n');
    but with the latter code, the player did not download.
    I have two questions:
    1. In an html file used with an LMS, how can I download a
    player that's located on the intranet server?
    2. In this html file, can I add text that the user will view
    without affecting the link between the LMS and AW piece?
    Thanks.
    Jim

    Hello,
    UPK provides both SCORM and AICC information for an LMS to import and track. UPK also includes a component called Usage Tracking which allows content usage and scores to be tracked and reported. I hope this helps. If you still have questions, I would suggest logging them with My Oracle Support: http://support.oracle.com/.
    Best regards,
    Marc
