Disable monitoring for the Interface
Hello,
In the Cisco Prime 2.1 I want to disable monitoring for the active interface in the device (router, switch, Nexus device), but the interface must stay in active state. How to do this? Thank you and best regards, DarkoThis is a bit surprising, since the logical disk discovery only runs once a day, plus it's not supposed to discover network and removable drives.
That means that your disks are mounted when the discovery runs and that they appear as "real" logical disks...
Unfortunately there is no "sync time" parameter for this discovery, which would have allowed you to specify the time of the day at which the discovery runs; thus allowing you to set a time at which you know the drives are not mounted.
Is there any other parameter that could help identifying these specific disks, besides their letter, so you could add them to a dynamic group?
Otherwise, what you could maybe try is to create your own logical disk discovery based on the native one, but with specific settings that would exclude your drives and then disable the native discovery.
But this again implies that you have something that would let you identify specifically your mounted drives... Also the native discovery is a quite complex VBS, I wouldn't actually recommend disabling/modifiying it.
Maybe I could have another idea with more details about your environment... -
Prime Infrastructure - alerting only trunk interfaces?
a very important NMS customization option is to decide which interfaces are important and which not for alerting...
How is this possible in PI?
I want to differentiate between important uplink ports and e.g. unimportant client ports - and as a consequence receive no emails for unimportant interfaces.
In LMS this was possible via Bluk jobs disabling monitoring for certain interfaces.
Is this possible in PI?
Thanks in advance!
BR.herwigThanks Rob for your prompt answer
I wonder how the "Port Group" Feature plays into the Alarming Part of PI.
What if I disable "Auto Monitoring" and create(design) port groups containing only important uplink ports...
Now if I receive a Interface down Trap from a Switch client port,
does PI still trigger an alert, despit I previously disabled "Auto Monitoring" in System Prefs?
Or in other words: Are Port Groups only used for performance monitoring or also used for alert notification? -

Re: VoltageSensor OutOfRange
This is a known limitation of DFM. Certain GBIC/XenPak modules do not have a voltage sensor. In that case, they will report a voltage of 0 (which is fine). In this case, you can unamange those interface voltage sensors that are not present under DFM > Device Management > Device Details.
I was also going through your discussion int the following post which is having the same error which i m getting

I have 2 bri interfaces, either in one router or in 2 different ones. the first has the following config:
interface BRI1/0
no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3
isdn protocol-emulate network
isdn layer1-emulate network
isdn static-tei 0
isdn skipsend-idverify
and on the b1/1:
interface BRI1/1
no ip address
isdn switch-type basic-net3
isdn static-tei 0
and the network side never comes up! I try the user side with the Telco and works fine. I tried all possible commands on both, like overlap-receiving, twait-disable, tei-negotiation, point-to-point-setup etc but still none b1/X ever lights up as green.
Also i tried straight cable and rollover cable, nothing.
Any idea how it can work? or if the PBX can not operate as USER, how can i make the router network?
Thanks, Chrisyou will need to connect the BRI to a switch/pbx that provides network termination.
(what is the exact BRI module part number? ie: VIC-2BRI-NT/TE, VIC-2BRI-S/T-TE, VIC2-BRI-NT/TE)
(if your using the VIC-2BRI-S/T-TE, you'll need your PBX to provide network termination)
your commands for isdn protocol and isdn layer1 emulate are correct for emulating network side.
static TEI seems fine if in fact your TEI can be set staticallly. (not sure of your pbx configuration possiblities)
what type of pbx are you attempting to connect the BRI to?
what type of router model are you using?
also, run a 'debug isdn q921' and even a 'debug isdn q931' and provide the output. this should help us help you a bit more. -
LMS 4.0 support for ASA firewall

2K8 - Best practice for setting the DNS server list on a DC/DNS server for an interface
We have been referencing the article
"DNS: DNS servers on <adapter name> should include their own IP addresses on their interface lists of DNS servers"
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd378900%28WS.10%29.aspx but there are some parts that are a bit confusing. In particular is this statement
"The inclusion of its own IP address in the list of DNS servers improves performance and increases availability of DNS servers. However, if the DNS server is also a domain
controller and it points only to itself for name resolution, it can become an island and fail to replicate with other domain controllers. For this reason, use caution when configuring the loopback address on an adapter if the server is also a domain controller.
The loopback address should be configured only as a secondary or tertiary DNS server on a domain controller.”
The paragraph switches from using the term "its own IP address" to "loopback" address. This is confusing becasuse technically they are not the same. Loppback addresses are 127.0.0.1 through 127.255.255.255. The resolution section then
goes on and adds the "loopback address" 127.0.0.1 to the list of DNS servers for each interface.
In the past we always setup DCs to use their own IP address as the primary DNS server, not 127.0.0.1. Based on my experience and reading the article I am under the impression we could use the following setup.
Primary DNS: Locally assigned IP of the DC (i.e. 192.168.1.5)
Secondary DNS: The assigned IP of another DC (i.e. 192.168.1.6)
Tertiary DNS: 127.0.0.1
I guess the secondary and tertiary addresses could be swapped based on the article. Is there a document that provides clearer guidance on how to setup the DNS server list properly on Windows 2008 R2 DC/DNS servers? I have seen some other discussions
that talk about the pros and cons of using another DC/DNS as the Primary. MS should have clear guidance on this somewhere.Actually, my suggestion, which seems to be the mostly agreed method, is:
Primary DNS: Locally assigned IP of the DC (i.e. 192.168.1.5)
Secondary DNS: The assigned IP of another DC (i.e. 192.168.1.6)
Tertiary DNS: empty
The tertiary more than likely won't be hit, (besides it being superfluous and the list will reset back to the first one) due to the client side resolver algorithm time out process, as I mentioned earlier. Here's a full explanation on how
it works and why:
This article discusses:
WINS NetBIOS, Browser Service, Disabling NetBIOS, & Direct Hosted SMB (DirectSMB).
The DNS Client Side Resolver algorithm.

I agree with this proposed solution as well:
Primary DNS: Locally assigned IP of the DC (i.e. 192.168.1.5)
Secondary DNS: The assigned IP of another DC (i.e. 192.168.1.6)
Tertiary DNS: empty
One thing to note, in this configuration the Best Practice Analyzer will throw the error:
The network adapter Local Area Connection 2 does not list the loopback IP address as a DNS server, or it is configured as the first entry.
Even if you add the loopback address as a Tertiary DNS address the error will still appear. The only way I've seen this error eliminated is to add the loopback address as the second entry in DNS, so:
Primary DNS: The assigned IP of another DC (i.e. 192.168.1.6)
Secondary DNS: 127.0.0.1
Tertiary DNS: empty
I'm not comfortable not having the local DC/DNS address listed so I'm going with the solution Ace offers.

LMS PRIME 4.2 integrating with ACS 4.2
Hello,
i would like to integrate new lms prime 4.2 with acs.4.2 . .. !!
is there document or user guide for this version of lms?
Thanks in advance.
MarwanIN LMS 4.2 there is nothing which is known as Integration (like LMS 3.x), since it added feature RBAC.
Now ACS can just be used as PAM to have ciscoworks authenticated for Tacacs+ or Radius. After the auth is done, you should have a authorization set in LMS locally for user, else it will be given a default HELP DESK access.

Script to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Hi, I am trying to find a way of using a batch file or vbscript to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks on a Network Interface Controller.
I've done some searching on the internet and I can see some suggestions to locate the Setting ID of the NIC and then remove the value from the "Bind" string under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Linkage" and "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Linkage"
I tried this but it didn't seem to uncheck itself from the NIC properties under NCPA.cpl
Can someone help me?http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/b0407073-07bc-462b-9de9-7295be5fa183/disable-file-and-printer-sharing-for-mircorosoft-networks?forum=csharpgeneral
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
