LMS Server Backup / Restore

Hi,
We want to take the current configuration backup of the LMS 4.0 (Installed on Win 2003 Enterprise) and restore the same to a new windows machine (Win2003 standard edition). Any idea?.
Regards,
Jaison

You'll have to backup the LMS data on the current machine first. Then build your new machine, install the LMS application (including license file) and then restore the data onto that installation.
It would be a good opportunity to move to LMS 4.2 while you're at it. Detailed procedure is in the Installing and Migrating Guide.

  • Windows Server Backup/Restore - mirrored physical to virtual

    Scenario:
Server A is a Windows 2008 server with software mirrored drives running incremental backup to removable media
    Server A dies but I have a working backup - seed/incrementals.
I bring in Server B and want to recover from the server A's backup media.
We have done this for non-software-mirrored situations - what would we have to do when the source is software-mirrored? Create two VHD's in the VM to be recovered to?

How does Disk2VHD deal with software mirrored drives in the original physical computer?  I understand it creates a VHD but does that VHD have the mirrored drives in it? As far as I can tell it creates a single VHD file and then you attach that VHD
to a VM. However the fact is that the original was 'two drives - software mirrored' so the VM will need two VHD's won't it - one for each mirror. The process of doing this is unclear. Have you ever done this particular process?

  • Backup/restore questions LMS 4.2

    Hello,
I have several questions regarding data migration from LMS 3.2.1 to LMS 4.2.We will perform backup and restore procedure on new LMS4.2 server machine .
    1. I am wondering what will happen with admin password aftrer restore, and all the other passwords in LMS. What will be effective? What will happen with database passwords?
    2. Other thing is : LMS 3.2.1 is installed on D:\ProgramFiles\CSCOpx and the new LMS 4.2.1 is installed in D:\CSCOpx
Will there be problems during restore, because the paths on old and new LMS server are not the same?
    3. When to perform the licensing?  Should I apply license before restore? I think I would have to apply it before beacause customer has 300 devices and eval license iz for 100 only.
    4. Does PI_CM license - Compliance  Management License comes with the product? How do we get this license? I am aware that this CAAM is new feature in 4.2 version so I am not sure does the customer have rights on it. They have bought upgrade from 3.2 to 4.1 and they have valid support contract so we will go to 4.2 version.
    Thanks!
    Marija

    Following are the answers :
    1. LMS's user info and passwords are stored in cwpass file under NMSROOT\lib\classpath\com\cisco\nm\cmf\servlet, which is also
backed up with DB backup. Hence restore would bring all previous user names and passwords.
    2. Ciscoworks has a mechanism which doesn't bothers the install directory. It sets environment variable as NMSROOT which is replaced by
the install directory and hence there should not be any issue. Please note that Inter-OS resotre are not supported.
    3. You can apply the license anytime, but it is good to install it before backup restore, else the excess of devices, more than 100
will go to unmanaged state and will have to be brought back to managed state once lic is applied.
    4. CAAM lic has to be purchased separately. You can contact lic. team or your accounts team for this.Till that time you can use it with its 60 days eval lic.

  • Backed up files partially disappear after restore (Windows Server 2008 R2 - Windows Server Backup)

    Dear all,
I am experiencing a problem with "Windows Server 2008 R2", using Windows Server Backup.
    Here's my setup:
    Server: RAID 5 Disk setup
    Backup:
By using Windows Server Backup (within Windows Server 2008 R2), C: and D: were fully backed up, with "System State" and "Baremetal Recovery" options selected. Backup went okay without any errors.
    Restore:
By using Windows Recovery Environment  (booted from Windows Server DVD), C: and D: were fully restored to the original partitions with "System Recovery" option found within Windows RE (without re-formatting partitions during restore). Restore
went OK without any errors. Rebooted, and system has been running fine.
    Problem:
After the restore, the system itself seems running OK; no BSOD, no crash, no visible errors.
However, our client insisted some files (around 6 to 7) which are related to the propriety software has "disappeared" right after System Recovery.
    Question:
Since Windows Server Backup is using "Volume Shadow Copy" technology which enables "live backup" of the running system, is it possible that some files will disappear (=restore error) after
    System Recovery?
I cannot really find any errors or warnings related to Windows Server Backup in the event log, through. No Windows-backup errors. No VSS errors, too.
Do anybody have experienced this kind of problem in the past?  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply, Ms. Mandy.
To make things clear, let me explain to you briefly:
    1. The "missing data" was backed up with "full system backup".
    2. After a system restore from the above backup image, as you mentioned, partitions has been overwritten with the partions' backup data in the Backup Data Set taken by Windows Server Backup. No error with backup. No error after restore, and reboot - system
    has been running fine.
    3. Although there was a report that the affected files(about 7 java exectables) were missing after the above restore operation, other aspect of system was running fine at the time of the report.
    4. I have checked the original backup data set - and voila, there ARE files which seems to gone after restore.
    5. When I used Windows Server Backup "on" Windows Server 2008 R2 normal environment (= NOT Recovery environment from DVD) and selectd ONLY these affected files to restore, these files could be RESTORED successfully, without any errors. SO... data
    was property backed up.
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions so files created after the backup point will be missing.
I understand, and this is not the case this time, because the affected files are already present in the backup data set (= I have mounted the backup data as VHD, and I could clearly see them present in the mounted VHD file)
Plus, these files are completely restoreable via "selective file restore" in Windows Server Backup.
    Things I want to know/confirm:
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions
If I understand this correctly, in case that the files in question are already present in the backup data set, these files SHOULD be restored after full system restore, right? (If these files could not be restored, Windows Server Backup SHOULD show some errors.)
What do you think, Ms. Mandy? :)

  • Bare metal restore of full server backup fails with RPC error 0x800706BA (server 2012)

With Windows Server 2012, after creating a successful windows server backup (full server), I am unable to do a bare metal restore of the system.
EFI System Partition, C:, D: are the volumes on a single array (Raid 5).
Loading WinRE and launching re-image, the full server restore stops after completing the C: restore just after beginning the D: drive restore (data volume) with the error with the message about RPC error 0x800706BA, unavailable.
The system will not boot as a result of the failure.
    What may be causing this?
    [edit]
I think I have two things working against me here... one, Volume Shadow Copy service wasn't running in WinPE and two.. the D: volume contains data deduplication.
I think this is causing some of my problems.
Is there an additional service that I need to start in WinPE to get a volume that was deduplicated restored perhaps using wbadmin?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply Shaon.
The hardware system is identical; however, I am increasing storage capacity from 12TB to 16TB.  Basically, the system is the same, just new hard drives (4x4TB versus 4x3TB).  Drives are all identical enterprise class drives and I am actually using
the same system (backup, swap drives then restore).
I tried both using the WinRE restore (re-image) with the backup set, and tried using wbadmin.  Both produce same RPC unavailable messages (although using the GUI based tool via WinRE provides the additional error code #).
I do not have any idea what to look at to try to figure this one out.
    [edit]
I was just informed of this posting:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/147efccc-e0e9-4458-852e-c3a44ae5cb64/the-system-image-restore-failed-error-details-he-rpc-server-is-unavailable-0x800706ba?forum=windowsbackup
and in my case, this lab server does in fact act also as a DC as well as a file server...  do I need to spin up a secondary controller (perhaps in a VM on another machine) to do this restore?

  • Backup & Restore SQL Server 2005

    Dear Experts,
One of our SAP system got crash due to some hardware problem . we have rectified the problem and installed the OS again.
Now could you please tell me how to restore taken SQL to bring the system up to date. Now I have Backup datas in my External HDD. I don't have Tape Drive media for that system.
I would appreciate the procedure and steps to be followed backup restore on the SQL 2005 & windows 2003 server system
    Please Let me know.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

    hi,
you have to install SAP on that machine then
    1.  Detach the database from newly installed sap.
    if you had offline backup
    2. copy the database from the external HDD to  newly installed location for e.g if on installation you had
database location on E:\ then copy to E:\
    3. attach the database.
    if online backup
    3. you have to use Restore method in SQL server.
start SQL 2005 server, right click on database option-->select Restore database, select from device -->specify backup
Backup media> file, click on Add> select file (external HDD location), in To database -->specify name of database (like PRD,DEV your SAP database name), in option, give the proper path for the restore.
    4. run STM tool.
    Thanks

  • After backup restores sql server error can't create folder, and can't search into list / library from ribbon

after having created a portal on a development platform, I made a backup Sql server then restores the production platform with sql server.
    Two problems :
    Problem 1:
1 in libraries error "An unexpected error" when creating FOLDER from ribbon even with Action page -> Manage content and structure. I could only create a folder with "Open with Explorer" in the ribbon. In the folder I created, i can create
a subfolder with ribbon, but not a folder in the root of the library. I create a sub sites and in this case it does not have any problem, I created a folder !!!
    Problem 2:
2 The search from the search box in the lists and library does not work. I need it working. I create a search site and it works fine, but I want to do research on lists and libraries.

  • Restoring Server Backups

Hi I'm having trouble restoring a backup of windows server 2012 essentials. My setup is:
1 -160gb hard drive with the operating system on it
2 - 2tb hard drives with raid 0 to hold all of my data
1 - 4tb hard drive that is only used for backing up everything
I ran into trouble when the 160gb hard drive died. I replaced the hard drive and re installed the operating system but somehow installing the new hard drive broke my raid causing me to lose all of my data. "No worries" I thought to myself I have
been doing twice daily backups of everything since I put this server together.... My problem is restoring the backups. I have two backups listed in the windows backup software from the day before all of this went down, they both say completed successfully
and have no errors listed. If I go to the folder I have vhdx image files of the three partitions that get backed up every day. When I go to restore one of three things happens.
    1. If I try and restore the entire volume using the recovery wizard I get the error "Windows Backup cannot find a shadow copy of the backup set on the storage location"
    2. If I try and restore just "files and folders" I can't expand any folders to see the files/folders. All of my folders say "Unable to browse *foldername*. Windows backup cannot find a shadow copy of the backup set on the storage location."
    3. If I restart and try a recovery from the instillation disk I'm not able to see the recovery files at all.
I'm able to mount the hard drive images and two of the images work just fine but not the third (The one I really want with all of my data on it). When I mount the third it tells me the file system is RAW and would I like to format (Always chose no). I have
scanned the image file when it was mounted as RAW with R-Studio. R-Studio finds all of my files but is only able to give me back less than a third of them. Scanning the broken raid doesn't give me any files.
If anyone could help me out I would be eternally grateful. I stand to lose a ton of data including almost all of the videos and pictures of my kids. I thought I was doing everything right but for some reason my back ups wont go....
    Thank You!

    Hi,
Firstly, please refer to the article below to troubleshoot VSS issues:
Troubleshoot VSS issues that occur with Windows Server Backup (WBADMIN) in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692290(v=ws.10).aspx
In the meantime, as the file system of the third hard drive is RAW, you need to convert RAW file system to NTFS.
For more detailed information, please refer to the articles below:
What is this Raw File System
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/ganand/archive/2008/02/22/what-is-this-raw-file-system.aspx
If the article is not helpful, I would suggest you use third-party softwares to convert RAW file system to NTFS.

  • Backup / Restore Test on SQL server. Am I right?

    Hello Colleagues,
We want to execute the following plan in order to test our backup&restore infrastucture. Please couls you point me if I´m leaving something back?
SQL Server 2005 SAP nw2004s based system (I think that the below procedure is valid no matter the system is Abap standalone, JAVA standalone or ABAP+JAVA standalone)
We want to Stop SAP production System HRP in production host.
Detach HRP SQL server in production Host.
Restore from the last full backup on production Host changing the database name to HRPNEW (logical name and filenames)
Attach the new restored files to the SQL Server 2005 (I think that this point is not needed because the restore will leave the database operational if I mark the corresponding option)
Start Sap System and check that everything is OK inside.
    Stop SAP system again
    detach HRPNEW database
    attach HRP original database
    Start SAP system and check
FInally delete db files and log files from HRPNEW database.
    What do you think?
Thank you very much in advance!
    Regards

    Thank you for your response.
But, is it needed if I´m restoring in the production server (same host name) the database with another name?
Or you meant to change the database name in anywhere?
    Thanks

  • Backup restoring procedure in system9

anybody has documents or links which talks about backup / restore complete system9 products . ?

    Hi,
I tell what I usually do.
I have EssBase and its apps in a server, and SharedServices in another one, so that, I have to do different backups.
First, make a Full backup for the ...\Hyperion folder with any backup tool (ntbackup and/or veritas in my case) and then, differential backups.
In the other server a use a script to make local copies of the SharedServices folder to mantain 1 copy per day.
On the other hand, you have to backup you SQL bases. I use de ms SQLServer tool for that.
This is a copy of my script to backup SharedServices (anyone who "lost" OpenLDAP service knows what I'm talking about..) that I scheduled to run every day. Please note that SharedServices has its own script to backup the directory, and it works fine.
++NOTE: %HYPBKP% is a system variable that I set in windows

  • Server 2008 R2 Windows Server Backup. "Error in backup of Hyper-V.vhd during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.

    Hello,
We are currently using Windows Server Backup to backup three Hyper-V guests running on a Windows 2008 R2 host.  Two guests are running Server 2008 R2 and one is running Windows 7.  I have the backups going to a dedicated external disk drive.
WSB backs up the two 2008 R2 Hyper-V guests just fine.  However, when attempting to backup the Windows 7 Hyper-V guest, I receive the following error:
Error in backup of <Windows 7.vhd> during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.
I ran a "vssadmin list writers" and all the VSS writers showed "Stable" with no errors.  I have plenty of space on the external drive as well.  I've read this article:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/973455?wa=wsignin1.0#workaroundissue12 except that doesn't seem to be what I'm experiencing here.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
As the other 2 guests could be backed up correctly, the issue should not be the Windows Server Backup feature.
First please refer to this article:
Backing Up and Restoring Virtual Machines
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd405549(v=vs.85).aspx
Please check if all following requirements are met. Specifically please check if Integration Service is installed.
Backup (volume snapshot) Integration Service is installed and running in the child VM. The service name is "Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor".
Windows 2000:  Backup Integration Service is not supported.
The child VM must be in the running state.
The Snapshot File Location for the VM is set to be the same volume in the host operating system as the VHD files for the VM.
All volumes in the child VM are basic disks and there are no dynamic disks.

  • Lost Windows Server Backup, historical backups. Backup seems to have restarted from a fresh full backup. How can I get to those old backups?

    Scenario with very bad outlook:
Friday-16th, early AM.  Win2008 SBS Server crashes due to RAID5 issues, bad disk.  Found that server was NOT configured with hot spare and for some reason the controller had marked a 2nd disk bad..which turned out not to be the case.
Had a single external USB backup drive being fed by Windows Server Backup.  Obtained support from vendor and was able to regain the RAID and start the server.
Soon became apparent that Exchange was having serious issues - edb was corrupt and not mountable.  Restore edb from backup, repaired and was eventually able to mount.  Then found it had Hub Transport issues.  Researching that when it was noticed
NTFS events being logged at a high rate.  Restarted system to repair the filesystem, which was successful.
After the FS repair, found the Exchange edb, new edb I had created to migrate mailboxes to, and public edb all 0k in size.
Restored the edb again and commenced repair, which eventually read Clean Shutdown again...but could not get it to mount.  Exchange was having various issues seemingly with AD.
Changed backup time to avoid a backup that day, as did not want to back up while RAID was rebuilding - had inserted a replacement for the failed drive.
Monday/19th, was advised that much of the data was corrupt.  This is an accounting firm and relies heavily on their data, especially since the last time their ext USB was rotated was Nov6 2013.  They now have no year end backup, nor a backup from
    post tax season 2014.
Is it possible to recover any of the historical backups prior to the full backup/restart?
Oh, and all Shadow Copies for the impacted volume/drive are gone.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Please use the “Wbadmin get versions” command to check the backup versions on the server. If there is only latest shadow copy, you may not recover any of the historical backups prior to the full backup.

  • Recovering mail from a server backup

A bunch of messages have disappeared from an Imap mailbox, at the same time as the Time Machine backup disk at the client Mac has failed.
So, I'm looking to recover the missing messages from my OS X Server Mac mini, which has a known good Time Machine backup.
Can anyone advise an approach please. I'm unclear why the messages disappeared in the first place, but I assume that if I can somehow access them from the server backup, I can restore.
    I could:
    - Save off current messages from the client
= Restore the server to a point before the messages disappeared
    - Copy back the saved current messages
    Is there a better way?
And does anyone have a theory as to why the messages disappeared in the first place?
    Thanks all

There really isn't a better way, IMHO.  I've had to do the restore and it only restores the mail directory.  So I took the same approach:
    1.  Export or copy to another folder within mail all of the user's email.
    2.  Restore the Mail file on the server.
    3.  Reconnect the client to the Mail server.
    4.  Manage deltas using the archived messages.
There may be another, more technical way to do this.  But if the amount of mail isn't too bad, this is a very quick way to "fix" it.
