LMS UPGRADE

Hi all,
I need to update to the latest version a lms 2.5n , i see on the cisco portal the Following guide:
Ordering Information for CiscoWorks LMS 2.x/3.x Existing Customers
1. Determine the license count for your existing CiscoWorks LMS 2.x/3.x product and order the matching Cisco Prime Infrastructure major release upgrade part numbers in Table 5. When using the Cisco Ordering Tool enter the part number R-PI12-UP-K9 to access the options.
2. Purchase the Desired physical appliance if the appliance deployment option is a physical rather than a virtual appliance. Both Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Cisco Prime LMS support the physical appliance deployment options. Each product stay connected its own dedicated physical appliance. Refer to Table 2.
3. Order an optional SASU support contract.
I also see that in the trial for lms there is a version for windows, so my question is, the step two is optional? or the appliance (virtual or physical) should be purchased?
Thanks

LMS is now not sold separately, however if you contract allows you can work with Cisco to get a upgrade licence. AFAIK, LMS 3.x is also not being sold anymore.
LMS 4.x is now bundled with Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
You can go to www.Cisco.com/upgrade and enter your SAS/SASU contract numbers which can show you your elegible upgrades.
-Thanks

  • CiscoWorks Web Server won't start after LMS upgrade 3.0 - 3.2

I upgraded CiscoWorks LMS from 3.0 to 3.2 today.  Everything worked prior to the upgrade.
The upgrade was successful, with no errors, and all services started except "CiscoWorks Web Server" which has the following error.
Apache.exe: Syntax error on line 1025 of C:/Program Files/CSCOpx/MDC/Apache/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load C:/Program Files/CSCOpx/MDC/Apache/modules/mod_ssl.so into server: The operating system cannot run %1.
    Environment:
    Windows 2003 SP2 Enterprise R2 32-bit, 8 GB RAM, HP BL460c Server
I suspect there is a problem with the precompiled apache installation?
I was wondering if someone could zip up a known-working C:/Program Files/CSCOpx/MDC/Apache folder for me from CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?
Or if someone has a patch or update to 3.2 to correct this?  Or, where I can get LMS 3.1 instead of 3.2 if LMS 3.2 is buggy?
Or if there is some other solution?  (even if it is a clean install... although I'd rather wait to see if someone can solve this a better way)

Do you have another application that might be loading Apache or OpenSSL on that same server?
Search for theses files and verify its located in CSCOpx\bin directory .
    cwssleay32.dll
    cwlibeay32.dll
If not, copy it from CSCOpx\setup\support directory to CSCOpx\bin directory and then restart the server.
Get the MDCSupportZip output from C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\MDC\bin\mdcsupport.exe file and upload it here.

    The next step for you:
Check the running processes via cmd line (pdshow -brief).
Check that all processes are running as expected.  If they are then take a look at what is keeping ports open on your box (netstat -anob).  From above, the reason may be an application occupying a port LMS needs.  Also check the Windows error logs.

  • LMS 4.1 (Windows) & NCS 1.1 (VM) Upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi All,
Im getting a bit confused about the whole upgrade migration process for the following config to Cisco Prime Infrastructure:
    LMS - Version 4.1 , 500 devices. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
    NCS – version 1.1 , 50 devices  Red Hat Linux ( 64 Bit)  (Installation software - NCS-VA-1.0.1.4-small.ova)
I want to be able to backup databases and migrate licensing from LMS and NCS to one platform. Does anyone have experience of this and could possible guide me thorugh this process. LMS has SAS and NCS has SAU.
Help will be very much appreciated!!

It's a couple of steps but can be done. You may want to reconsider getting off of LMS since the latest Prime Infrastructure (PI 1.2) does not have full feature compatibility with the latest LMS (4.2.3). Have a look here for the comparison.
If you still want to do it:
    1. Upgrade your NCS to PI 1.2 (instructions). If you're going with a total of 550 devices on a combined license you should use the medium ova file to get the correct server resource allocation. You will need to get the new license from the TAC or via the licensing portal. I'm not sure if you can get the PI license for your LMS upgrade directly via the portal but you do have the entitlement for LMS 4.2 and PI 1.2 (combined licenses not to exceed the original LMS number) if your SAS is current. You may need to contact the TAC and ask for the licensing team.
    2. Upgrade your LMS to 4.2 and patch it to 4.2.2 (instructions). Once you've done that, there is a simple menu command to export your device credentials to Prime (Admin, System, Export Data to PI in LMS and then Operation, Device Work Center, Bulk Import in PI - instruction on Page 18 here). Do that and then in the new PI installation import the devices.
Verify everything is working and you can decommission the LMS server.

  • DFM Error after Upgrade from LMS 3.1 to LMS 3.2

    Hi Cisco Community,
I have a big problem with the LMS  Application Device Fault Manager 3.2.0 after an Upgrade from LMS 3.1 to LMS 3.2
The LMS upgrade finished without error.
The Alerts and Activities Diplay encountered an error with the following message:
"An exception occured. Please check the AAD.log file for further details"
You find the "pdshow"  and "netstat" output and also the AAD.log, DeviceManagent.log, EPM.log, brstart.log and TISServer.log attached to this message
    Everything else works fine.
A Cisco Daemon Manager restart doesn't fix this problem.
Any ideas to fix this problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards
    Stephan B.

The output of the command "brcontrol" was:
    Error attaching to broker: S25B2005:9002!
I found a workaround for this error message at the release notes for the Cisco Unified Operations Manager.
    The workaround is:
    1.) net stop crmdmgtd
    2.) Wait 15 minutes
    3.) net start crmdmgtd
After completion of this workaround, I got the following output:
Broker is located at: S25B2005:9002      Started: May 07 11:08:47 2010
Domain Host Name         Port     PID State   Last Change Time

    DFM1   S25B2005.drv.bb  21903   13988 RUNNING May 07 11:08:55 2010
You find this outputs attached to this message.
Unfortunately the errors in the DFM application are the same as before.
Also I get some error messages in the "Polling and Threshold" menu.
You find this error message attached to this message.
I already execute the following steps from the Cisco TAC to solve this problem.....without success.
Stop Daemons >>> net stop crmdmgtd from CLI.
Open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmFh. Delete dfmFh.log.
Go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmFh>  from CLI and run:
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmFh.db from CLI.
Similarly open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmEpm. Delete dfmEpm.log.
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmEpm.db from CLI.
Similarly open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmInv. Delete dfmInv.log.
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmInv.db from CLI.
Note : Please check a screen will pop up each time you execute these commands.
Then, Start daemons >>> net start crmdmgtd from CLI.

  • Cannot suppress unidentified trap in LMS Fault Monitor

    Hello,
We have Ciscoworks LMS upgraded from version 4.0.1 to Cisco Prime 4.1.
DFM is displaying in "Fault Monitor", "Device Fault Summary Tab" an entry which says "Unidentified Trap". In the lower pane titled "Fault for unidentified trap" we have no event to own or clear, so we cannot suppress this line from DFM.
    Any fix available ?
    Best regards
    C.Barbu

There have been known issues with Fault Monitoring Alerts caused by steal entries in EPM database. To fix this, please run the below commands on your server's command prompt (this will delete all the data from the EPM database):
    + Stop daemon manager :
    net stop crmdmgtd
    + Re-initialize EPM db as below :
    NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmEpm dmprefix=EPM
    example:
    C:\progra1\CSCOpx\bin\perl.exe C:\progra1\CSCOpx\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmEpm dmprefix=EPM
    + Start daemon manager:
    net start crmdmgtd

  • I have ordered CWLMS 2.2 for the customer, I want to ask a question.

I have ordered LMS 2.2 which support only Windows 2000 Server, but the customer want to install LMS on Windows 2003, then I install LMS 2.5 evaluation and I order the Minor upgrade ver sion from 2.x to version 2.5 ... I fear that I have to install LMS 2.2 on Windows 2000 Server only and just upgrade to LMS 2.5 and I cannot use LMS upgrade license to verify LMS 2.5

If you have both sets of CDs, then you may simply install LMS 2.5 and then when that is done perform the validation (using the older version).
In other words, you don't need to install LMS 2.2 first.

  • LMS 4.0 not starting after upgrade

I am running LMS 4.0 on Windows 2008 Server, recently changed from eval copy to licensed (for 750 devices). It had been running and working for several months. The license application worked fine and it ran a couple days that way.
I then downloaded the CiscoWorks_LMS_4.0.x_WIN2K8_R2.exe patch so that I could upgrade the server OS to Windows Server 2008 R2. Per the instructions in the patch readme I first proceeded to upgrade my server to 2008 R2. Then I installed the patch (patch only).
After doing this (and restarting the server) CiscoWorks daemons will no longer start. I have confirmed my paging file size (swap) is set to start at 8192 MB (8 GB) as required. I tried manuallly starting (net start crmdmgtd) without sucess. I see the initial dmgt_start_lock lock file in C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\objects\dmgt\ready but none of the other process lock files ever pop in and out as they would normally and the processes (and thus CiscoWorks server) never start.
    Any suggestions?

The "patch" is as far as I know some sort of launcher for the installation setup.exe.
When I run the "patch" al I get is the question where my installer is, so I can install LMS.
I have not yet tried to run this on an existing LMS installation. Nor upgrading the OS on an LMS installation :-)
Does the "patch" have a different behavior when LMS is already installed?
If not, I suggest to use the cleansystem.exe in the CSCOpx\bin to remove the current install, reinstall use the patch to launch the installer and restore a backup
    Cheers,
    Michel

The server  has access to www through proxy without any restrictions.

Has anyone knows what can be the problem??.
    Thanks

    Hi,
the problem to access cisco.com is because of a "bug". Its ID is CSCto46927.
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCto46927
    Symptom:
After the 16th of June 2011 LMS will no longer  be able to download Software and Device Package updates, or PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information from CCO
    Conditions:
Hosted  services in Cisco.com that are being leveraged by LMS, for downloading  the latest Software and Device Package updates, as well as the PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information are being migrated to a new framework and  the old services will be retired.
This will affect all LMS 3.x and 4.x versions.
Refer to https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16806 for more information
    Workaround:
Users of LMS 3.2.1 , 4.0 should install the patch that can be downloaded from cisco.com
Users of earlier version will need to upgrade to LMS 3.2 and then install the LMS 3.2 SP1 patch set before installing the patch"
Because of that it is necessary to upgrade not only to 3.1 or 3.2, you need 3.2.1 to get the patch and then access to cisco.com again.
The question about the better way for updating I can't answer. I did a update to 3.1 and then to 3.2. But I think you will find the requirements for the updates in the notes for them.
But I can't find LMS 3.1 in the cisco download center. There is only 3.2 and 3.2.1 available for me.

  • Problems after upgrading LMS from 4.1 to 4.2.3

After the upgrade of the LMS we have the situation that all our deviced are visible in the subnet groups but not in "all devices".
When I want to launch an inventory collection the following message is displayed:
"ICSU0025: Problem with JRM. The JRM server may not be running. Check ICServerUI.log for more details. See the user guide Administration of CiscoWorks LMS for the log file location."
When I do a Discovery, the deviced are being discovered but they are unreachable.
And all the host names are changed into their IP addresses.
I can't seem to find the problem. Even after roaming the forum here.
I'm not able to pinpoint the exact cause of the problems...
    Any ideas?
    regards,
    W

That is a healthy normal state for ANIServer. I checked some similar cases and it seems most of them were transient and got resolved once daemon was reatarted.
I would suggest to follow this procedure once additionally :
    > Stop Daemon manager
    > Regenerate SSL certificate
    > Do a transaction log for RME DB
    > Start the daemon
For 2nd and 3rd check my this post for process :
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3597059#3597059
If this is Solaris/linux, for transaction log, check this link (under Recovering From a Server Crash).

  • Upgrade to LMS 4.2.5 - dmgtd.ext being used by another process

    I'm upgrading from LMS 4.2.4 to LMS 4.2.5 on a Window's system.
    The upgrade wizard starts and the prerequisites are met. It errors out with the following message;
"These files are currently being used by another running process. You must stop all processes listed below to proceed successfully with this installation.
    D:\CSCOpx\bin\dmgtd.exe"
The processes have stopped though. I ran the command "net stop crmdmgtd" and it returned "The Cisco Prime Daemon Manager service is not started."
So, does anyone know how to get the dmgtd.exe stopped so that I can proceed with the upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Mike S.

    Hi Mike,
After shutdown the LMS services (net stop crmdmgtd)
then Open the "task Manager" > Click on "Processes" and look for dmgtd.exe or dbsrv10.exe , sm_server or any other LMS services running  , I am sure there should be one . Kill it Manually from the Task Manager and run the installation again.
    Thanks-

  • How do you install RSAC 4.3.2 when upgrading to ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1?

We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 which we have recently updated to ciscoworks 3.2.1 using the ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 patch file.  In the "Readme for CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2 Service Pack 1" document, it says that you have to install the Remote Syslog Collector 4.3.2 separately.  It says the file (setup.exe) is located at disk1/RSAC.  However, ciscoworks 3.2 Service Pack 1 only appears to be a patch file and when we ran the patch file on our Remote Syslog Collector server, the version remained at 4.3.0.  When I looked at the server where RME is installed (version 4.3.2), it says that Syslog Analyzer is 4.3.2 and Syslog Collector is version 4.3.0.  The patch file doesn't look like it has the installation files for RSAC 4.3.2 and there doesn't seem to be a directory that was created on the RME server to install the updated RSAC from, so how do you upgrade from RSAC 4.3.0 to RSAC 4.3.2?

I opened up a TAC case, worked with TAC, and was able to update RSAC to version 4.3.2.  The procedure is:
    1. Download the ciscoworks LMS 3.2.1 patch file to the remote syslog server.
    2. Create a temporary directory on the remote syslog server (ex. c:\test)
    3. Go into the directory with the extracted LMS 3.2.1 patch file and type the command:
    Ciscoworks_LMS_3.2.1.exe /extract_all:c:\test
    4.  Go into the c:\test directory and find the RSAC folder.  In the RSAC folder is a setup file.  Run setup and install RSAC 4.3.2 over RSAC 4.3.0 (if you uninstall RSAC 4.3.0, you will get a message saying that RSAC 4.3.0 must be installed before installing RSAC 4.3.2)
    5. Check the installation by going to Common Services->Software Center->Software Update on the remote syslog server.  The version should be RSAC 4.3.2.

  • Problems upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 - the backup fails.

I'm upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 on Solaris. I've met all of the prereq's, patches, etc. It keeps failing on the Backup...It claims I need 15 Gig for the backup. The backup directory I'm using (/opt/backup) has 35 Gig free, so that shouldn't be the issue.
    Here is the error I'm seeing in the backup.log;

I've tried this multiple times and each time it appears to fail on a different file/folder in the sw_images directory. This is our FTP directory where we store lots of IOS images for download. I've removed each of these files it errors out on and it keeps failing. I just removed all files from the sw_images folder and am trying the backup again now.
I'm attaching the backup.log which contains the failure information for each backup I've tried in the past two days.
My main question is...can I skip this backup somehow? I've got another LMS 3.0 system that I can export everything I need from. Skipping the backup isn't an option on the install/upgrade? It gives me the option to quit the install or try the backup again.
    Thanks,

You can skip the backup with a hidden option:
    ./setup.sh -b nobackup
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable until figuring out why the backup has been failing, ostensibly because tar is running into the 255-char limit (100 for the filename and 155 for the path), a result of the many iterations of the following:
    sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/
