LMS v4.0 Log Files

Attached is the output from Reports> System> Status> Log File.
As you can see I have a number of log files showing their size in RED.
How do I automate getting these smaller?
I have looked at Log Rotation, but none of the files listed in the attached appear in that section.
Is it a case of manaully stopping the Daemon, renaming the log files and then restarting the daemon, or is there a way of automating this housekeeping task?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Afroj,
Attached is all the files shown in Log Rotation, none of the ones in RED in my original post appear here.
Can I just add them then, and does the following indicate that I already have the job scheduled in which case at 6pm tonight it should then pick up the new ones I add?
C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin>C:\Windows\System32\at.exe

  • LMS3.0.1 Log files' size are not purged.

    There is a LMS 3.0.1.
Every day size of all log files only are increased.
I have a 12G particion for log files but it's full every 2 weeks.
In this case I have to stop LMS, delete all log files and start LMS manually every two weeks.
    Also, there is following message:
CiscoWorks Folder Utilization is 8%Processes DFMCTMStartup, DataPurge are down.
I tried to start these services several times but it failed all time.
Hot to make LMS to prevent of increasing of log files over Recommended Size Limit?

These two processes should be done in normal operation.  Do not try and start them manually.
To rotate log files periodically, you will need to configure logrot.  Search the Common Services online help for "logrot", and you will get the instructions for configuring it.  Essentially, you will need to run NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/logrot.pl -c, then walk through the menu prompts to configure the files you want to rotate.

  • LMS 4.0.1 ani log file too large

My LMS 4.0.1 platform is installed since several days and I have a very large ani.log file (> 300 MB after 4 days of daemons running).
In this file, I saw many Ani Discovery errors or warnings like for example:

These errors are not focused on specific devices (many devices are concerned).
However, all seems to be working fine on the platform (layer2 maps, data collection, inventory, config backup, UT, DFM, ...).
For informations, recently, I was in contact with TAC because Data Collection was always in running state.
They provided a new PortDetailsXml.class file to replace the original one.
    It has fixed the problem.
I suspect now that ani database could be corrupted and need to be reinitialized.
I would to be sure of that and if possible to avoid this solution.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi ,
Found some errors and exception in the log..
We need to follow the below steps to fix the issue::
-we need to re-initialize the ANIdatabase ::
    1.stop the daemon manager :
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd stop
    net stop crmdmgtd
    2.Go to : /opt/CSCOpx/bin/ and issue the command :
    Run the below command:    /opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    windows::
    NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    3.Start the Daemon manager ::
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
    net start crmdmgtd
***IMP***   Re-initialize the ANI database will not lose any of the history information of the device.  Also ANI database does not contain any historical information as soon as the above steps are complete you need to run and new DATA COLLECTION followed by User tracking Acquisition and then check the issue.
Data collection:: Go to  Admin > Collection Settings > Data Collection > Data Collection Schedule   under "start Data Collection" > For "All Device"  >> click "START"
User tracking :: Inventory > User Tracking Settings > Acquisition Actions
    hope it will help
    Thanks-

  • Where can I find an explanation of Processes and Log files for LMS 3.2?

Being fairly new to Ciscoworks, I've been scouting for documentation that explains the processes as enumerated by the "pdshow" command. Also, when there are problems, I find myself hunting through the log files without a clear understanding of which log file most likely contains the data I need for troubleshooting purposes.
Is there a document, preferably in table format, that has at least a brief explanation of each of these items? I can probably eventually glean this information from reading all of the documentation, but that would be a lengthy task.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi John,
Kindly refer to below doc by Joseph Clarke which have detailed explanation for all the daemons of CiscoWorks .

    Hope it helps.

  • Want a log file in LMS 3.1 for Link down

I want to have an external logfile which should write "DEVICEName & respective Interface" at the event when this port goes down. Actually i want to monitor all uplink ports in this way.

There is no such log file. The DFM Alerts and Activities Display does show you all of the events for all your devices, but this is not written to a flat file. You could, however, create a DFM notification group matching only on the OperationallyDown event (under DFM > Notification Services > Notification Group). Then, create a syslog subscription for this group, and send all of the notifications to a dedicated syslog server. The messages will be written to a flat file by the syslog daemon.

  • LMS 4.2 Syslog File Size and Management

    Hello All
i have LMS 4.2 in Network with 100 devices, all of my devices have ACL so, there are too many logs in syslog
after a while the size of the log files in /var/log files (boot.log, messages.log) going to have huge size, something about 20G for each one
I'm looking for a way to reduce the size, is it possible to use Log Rotation or not??
    Best Regards
    John Mayer

Ideall Logs are supposed to fill the syslog file sooner or later. Though logrot is amongst a best way to keep the Syslog file size in check.
You can check the procedure for Logrot here :
    Configuring Log Files Rotation
Additionally, there are some more Syslog Administrative Tasks which can keep your syslog in control. You can perform the following Administrative tasks:
•Back up Syslog messages (see Setting the Syslog Backup Policy).
•Purge Syslog messages (see Setting the Syslog Purge Policy).
•Perform a Forced Purge (see Performing a Syslog Forced Purge).

  • Syslog Reports not collect Syslog.log file Messages

I am doing a installation on CiscoWorks 3.2. after two three weeks I found my syslog services is not working properly. Once I checked on the syslog.log its updated with the device logs as normal. But when I am going to generate report it’s not collect data from the syslog log file. I have notice my syslog analyzer and syslog collator processes are shown as = Program started - No mgt msgs received. Is this normal on the LMS serve?
Anyway I found following error massagers on the SyslogAnalyzer.log file.

  • Stdout.log file

My stdout.log file grows quite quickly (it's currently around 45MB and growing), however, because it's constantly in use it doesn't get rotated by my logrot process (I'm using LM3.2 on Windows 2003 Server).
Is there a reason why this file grows quite quickly and is there a way to rotate it without stopping the Daemons, renaming the file, and then restarting the Daemons??
If not, is there a maximum file I can let this file grow to without having to clear it?

    Thanks Joe...
I stopped the Daemons and rotated the file on 23/12/09. The file is currently in excess of 75MB!!!
I've attached the last couple of hundred lines of the log to see if that gives you any clues as I'm perplexed by this.
Could there be a debug mode enabled somewhere in LMS?? I'm not sure which debug mode would write to the stdout.log file.
As usual, any help greatfully received.

that belong to Oracle clusterware? Any tip to found error in this log files? Is Oracle Enterprise Manager enough to monitor the clusterware?Oracle Support is advising admins of Clusterware/RAC to use CHM (Cluster Health Monitor). (Available only for Windows,Linux and Solaris, will be soon released to other platform).
I believe you've never seen a real-time monitoring of Clusterware/RAC as this is fantastic tool.
Enough of work in darkness. LIGHTS ON with CHM.
    See this thread:
Re: Huge memory utilization of "lms" process
See this presentation about CHM on link below:
    http://levipereira.wordpress.com/2011/05/10/cluster-health-monitor-chm/
I believe that very soon, users of forums Grid Computing will not post logs of clusterware/RAC anymore, but output (report) of CHM. It's cleaner and much more friendly.

  • Steps to empty SAPDB (MaxDB) log file

    Hello All,
i am on Redhat Unix Os with NW 7.1 CE and SAPDB as Back end. I am trying to login but my log file is full. Ii want to empty log file but i havn't done any data backup yet. Can anybody guide me how toproceed to handle this problem.
I do have some idea what to do like the steps below
    1.  take databackup (but i want to skip this step if possible) since this is a QA system and we are not a production company.
    2. Take log backup using same methos as data backup but with Log type (am i right or there is somethign else)
    3. It will automatically overwrite log after log backups.
or should i use this as an alternative, i found this in note Note 869267 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB LOG area
Can the log area be overwritten cyclically without having to make a log backup?
Yes, the log area can be automatically overwritten without log backups. Use the DBM command
util_execute SET LOG AUTO OVERWRITE ON
to set this status. The behavior of the database corresponds to the DEMO log mode in older versions. With version 7.4.03 and above, this behavior can be set online.
Log backups are not possible after switching on automatic overwrite. Backup history is broken down and flagged by the abbreviation HISTLOST in the backup history (dbm.knl file). The backup history is restarted when you switch off automatic overwrite without log backups using the command
util_execute SET LOG AUTO OVERWRITE OFF
and by creating a complete data backup in the ADMIN or ONLINE status.
Automatic overwrite of the log area without log backups is NOT suitable for production operation. Since no backup history exists for the following changes in the database, you cannot track transactions in the case of recovery.
any reply will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Mani,
    1. Please review the document u201CUsing SAP MaxDB X Server Behind a Firewallu201D at MAXDB library
    http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/44/bbddac91407006e10000000a155369/content.htm

Is the database server behind a Firewall? If yes, then the Xserver port need to be open. You could restrict access to this port to the computers of your database administrators, for example.
Is "nq2host" the name of the database server? Could you ping to the server "nq2host" from your machine?
    2. And if the database server and your PC in the local area NetWork you could start the x_server on the database server & connect to the database using the DB studio on your PC, as you already told by Lars.

  • Total lock-ups with fan running - translate system.log file please!?

Hi, all. My late 2005 2.3 gig dual G5 has been experiencing random lock ups for as long as I can remember. Here's the system log file for the latest freezes. Can anyone tell me what's going on here??? I really need to get to the root of this problem. Thanks so so much in advance.

    Hi-
The machine seems to be having trouble with loading certain drivers, but, as this isn't a crash log, and doesn't show the "hang-up" or freeze, it's hard to tell.
    Noted possibilities are:
-Microsoft keyboard (possible USB power problem)
-firmtek driver (from archive) questionable due to the "archive" annotation
-Wacom tablet driver, causing system problems
Running in Safe mode without freezes would help to determine if one of these drivers is the problem.
Other possibilities are outdated drivers, or simply a need to reinstall the OS.
If unnecessary, removing the driver(s) would be a good idea.
External USB and Firewire devices are all suspect, should all be disconnected, revert to Apple keyboard, and test system performance. Adding one device at a time, and testing each will be necessary to clear each device.
I have experienced system trouble when a Wacom tablet was not connected, but the driver was left installed.
Disabling the driver from Startup items may be necessary to test without the Wacom tablet connected.

  • Print a custom Error message in the XML bursting program's log file...

    Hi,
I having this requirement, where i need to print a custom error message in the xml bursting program's log file.
Actually i am having a report where i create invoices and then those invoices are emailed to the respective customers, now say if a customer has three contacts and there is only two valid email id's so what happens is bursting will be successful for two contacts whereas the third contact dosen't get any emails. when this happens i need to log a message in the bursting programs log file stating a custom message.
Two things i want to know..
1- Whether is it possible to write into the xml bursting programs log file
    2- If yes, then how..
note: it ll be greatly appreciated if the answer is elaborated.
    thanks,
    Ragul

  • How to Properly Protect a Virtualized Exchange Server - Log File Discontinuity When Performing Child Partition Snapshot

I'm having problems backing up a Hyper-V virtualized Exchange 2007 server with DPM 2012. The guest has one VHD for the OS, and two pass-through volumes, one for logs and one for the databases. I have three protection groups:
System State - protects only the system state of the mail server, runs at 4AM every morning
Exchange Databases - protects the Exchange stores, 15 minute syncs with an express full at 6:30PM every day
VM - Protecting the server hosting the Exchange VM. Does an child partition snapshot backup of the Exchange server guest with an express full at 9:30PM every day
The problem I'm experiencing is that every time the VM express full completes I start receiving errors on the Exchange Database synchronizations stating that a log file discontinuity was detected. I did some poking around in the logs on the Exchange server
and sure enough, it looks like the child partition snapshot backup is causing Exchange to truncate the log files even though the logs and databases are on pass-through disks and aren't covered by the child partition snapshot.
What is the correct way to back up an entire virtualized Exchange server, system state, databases, OS drive and all?

I just created a new protection group. I added "Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\MailServer", short-term protection using disk, and automatically create the replica over the network immediately. This new protection group contains only the child partition
snapshot backup. No Exchange backups of any kind.
The replica creation begins. Soon after, the following events show up in the Application log:
    =================================

    =================================
The events continue on, basically snapshotting all of Exchange. From the DPM side, the total amount of data transferred tells me that even though Exhange is trunctating its logs, nothing is actually being sent to the DPM server. So this snapshot operation
seems to be superfluous. ~30 minutes later, when my regularly scheduled Exchange job runs, it fails because of a log file discontinuity.
So, in this case at least, a Hyper-V snapshot backup is definitely causing Exchange to truncate the log files. What can I look at to figure out why this is happening?
