LMS3.2 DFM: Devices in Questioned state

Hi networkers,
We get a lot of devices that appear frequently in the Questioned state. Is there a way to troubleshoot them or th get additional info?
Thanks

I checked the Download Software page and found that DFM3.2.0 is the latest, unless I made a mistake of course.
Can you provide me with the ink where I can download DFM3.2.1? I tried to install the last released patch CSCtj57268 but LMS says it is for another DFM version.
C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin>perl c:\CSCtj57268-1.0\CSCtj57268-1.0.pl
The patch is getting installed.....
This Point Patch is not intended for this version of dfm.
If you go ahead and Install this patch some functionality of
dfm might malfunction.Please confirm with TAC before applying the patch.
Do you wish to continue (Y/N) [Y] :N
C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin>
Thanks

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 DFM Devices Missing

    Hi Everybody
    Having manually added a device into the DCR and confirmed that it's in a managed state I cannot get added into DFM.  Within Device Centre, it's collector status against "Data Collection", "Inventory", and "Fault Discovery" are all Success.
    My Device Allocation Policy (Inventory > Device Administration: Device Allocation Policy) is currently set to Manage All Devices.
    Running "geti Router" from within dmctl -s DFM returns all but the device in question.
    I have manually deleted and readded and have also restarted service CRMDmgtd.
    Many Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi,
    can you try to remove it from DB as below ::
    NMSROOT/Objects/smarts/bin/dmctl -s DFM invoke <Class>::<Instance>  remove
    Class => Switch or Router,
    Instance => Device IP or Name.
    dmctl> invoke Switch::X.X.X.X remove
    then add the device back in LMS and see if it makes any difference.
    Also try to increase the SNMP timeout and retry for DFM:
    Admin > Network > Timeout and RetrySettings> FaultManagement SNMP Timeouts and Retries
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • Metainit error - overlaps with device in metadevice state database

    I have successfully mirrored 3 of 4 partitions on a new install but am having trouble with the last one. It is the swap partition. There are the usual steps I follow:
    SWAP (slice 1):
    1. metainit -f d11 1 1 c0t0d0s1
    2. metainit d12 1 1 c0t8d0s1
    3. metainit d10 -m d11
    4. edit the /etc/vfstab
    5. reboot
    6. metattach d10 d12
    After step #1, I get the following error:
    metainit: tpssol2: c0t0d0s1: overlaps with device in metadevice state database
    I check metastat and all the config files and don't see anything wrong.

    What platform is this? SPARC or X86 and OS version. This normally happens after a rebuild and you get 2 disk devices with the same ID.
    #iostat -Ei
    This will display your disks and IDs. If the match, you will need to do the following (this should applies for physical and virtual servers, but I have only tested it on VMware) in this example c1t0d0 and c1t1d0(secondary) are the disks with matching IDs.
    #iostat -Ei
    this shows 2 disks with the same ID
    #cfgadm -al|grep c1t
    c1::dsk/c1t0d0 disk connected configured unknown
    c1::dsk/c1t1d0 disk connected configured unknown
    #cfgadm -c unconfigure c1::dsk/c1t1d0
    #cfgadm -al|grep c1t
    c1::dsk/c1t0d0 disk connected configured unknown
    c1::dsk/c1t1d0 disk connected unconfigured unknown
    #iostat -Ei
    this shows now only one disk
    from within VMWare manager remove the secondary disk and add it back again!
    #cfgadm -c configure c1::dsk/c1t1d0
    #cfgadm -al|grep c1t
    c1::dsk/c1t0d0 disk connected configured unknown
    c1::dsk/c1t1d0 disk connected configured unknown
    #iostat -Ei
    this now showed a new disk with a unique disk ID.
    #fdisk /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0p0
    Y to the prompt to create Solaris 100% prompt
    #prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2|fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2
    #metadb -af -c4 c1t0d0s7 c1t1d0s7
    Success! You can now setup your mirroring.

    Sorry folks. I had failed to check the placing of slice 7... which I had assumed would be placed in the highest cylinder numbers... however, I used a "custom install" facility, which had placed them somewhere else... I failed to notice when I repartitioned the disk.
    The filesystem which I "newfs"ed a little chunk out of was blank anyway.
    Off to try to bite a chunk out of an operational filesystem now.... idle hands...

  • DFM device discovery issue "Devices stuck in Questioned state"

    Hi
    We have LMS 3.0.1 installed with DFM 3.0.4 The devices are showing Questioned with Error code "SNMP timeout" with no specific reason. The snmpwalk is coming for the device as I checked with snmpwalk command. The only device discovered as"known" has ICMP permitted from Server to device and no other device has. They only have SNMP permit. Can this affect the dicovery?? or what else can I try....Please suggest!!
    Rgds

    Yes. DFM requires that all devices be both SNMP and ICMP reachable. DFM uses ICMP to verify reachability to all IP addresses on the device. However, at the very least, the address by which you manage the device MUST be ICMP reachable.

  • LMS 4.2 - DFM devices stuck in "Learning" state

    Hi,
    Does anybody know why this same kind of bug/error/software fault exist in LMS 4.2 as it was in LMS 3.2 ? Why after a while after discovery of devices (state is "Known") DFM drops the state of devices to "Learning" and it stucks forever. Restarting of daemon manager helps for a short time. It looks like the processing of faults stops a while after discovery is complete.
    LMS 4.2 is running on Solaris 10, connected to other LMS in DCR Slave configuration.

    The connection between the ciscoworks GUI and the DFM repository is not 'optimal', or something like that. It's complicated.
    What could cause the behavior you mention however, is either someone rediscovering devices that are still in learning state, or the presence of multiple active rediscovery schedules.
    You may even delete all schedules excepts the default redisovery schedule which you can/should suspend. If the problem then stays away you know what caused it.
    At this stage any device that really changes must be rediscoverd in DFM manually.
    I think Admin -> Fault takes you to a page showing the schedule, if not lookup 'fault rediscovery schedule' in the help.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • DFM still in learning state

    Hi,
    I have  newly installed LMS 3.2.But device status in DFM shows "learning" state and 10% completed.Here attaching the screen shot
    DFM 3.2.0
    common services  3.3.0
    RME 4.3.0
    LMS is running on Windows platform.I am not using any .Net2.0 SP 1 update.
    Restarted the DFM services and rebooted the server still no result.I have got the following procedure to be done if the device stuck up at 10%
    Step 1 Download the tools from the following location: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsTools.html
    Step 2 Unzip it into a directory.
    Step 3 Enter pdshow DfmServer pdshow DfmBroker to check whether the processes DfmServer and DfmBroker are running.
    Step 4 Enter /objects/smarts/bin/brcontrol
    Step 5 Check whether the host name is the same as in DNS.
    Step 6 Check whether there are multiple instances of brstart and sm_server
    You can use the downloaded Pstool to see one branch each of brstart and sm_serve.
    For example:
    pslist -t
    brstart 5708 8 1 16 8476 1104 264
    brstart 5880 8 7 86 32720 11240 9664
    sm_authority 6452 8 1 52 14376 3616 1528
    sm_server 6332 8 1 16 8476 1104 264
    sm_server 6416 8 124 678 212696 58784 56812
    sm_authority 6444 8 1 47 14376 3572 1528
    There should be only one branch. You need to terminate any extra branches.
    Step 7 Stop the daemon manager by entering net stop crmdmgtd.
    Wait for five minutes.
    Step 8 Enter netstat -a -n -p tcp to make sure that ports 9002 and 43501 to 43508 are not in listening state or timed wait state.
    Step 9 Start the daemon managerby entering net start crmdmgtd.
    Can any any body elaborate step number 3,5,6 and 8. will there be any impact if i go ahead with this procedure.

    was the hostname of the server recently changed?
    test with nslookup if the FQDN of the server is  resolvable (it must be)
    if it is not, change your DNS or hosts file and restart LMS
    if still does not work, please post the output of
    from a DOS box the output of:
    "pdreg -l DfmServer"
    set
    your md.properties file (NMSROOT\lib\classpath\md.properties)
    and the following log files:
    NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/logs/DFM.log

  • Compatible devices/accessories question

    This may have been addressed in one of the many posts before it and if it has been I apologize and would be grateful for a referral to its answer...
    I'm looking to buy a 4th Generation nano 16GB and am perfectly alright with it not charging on my non apple devices. What I am worried about is it not playing on those devices at all (my other ipod which cost me $250 just last year was stolen and once I buy this new ipod I sure won't have money to spend on new apple accessories, as fun as they might be). So my question is, if anybody has any personal experience to share, will this new ipod nano work with my belkin car adapter (not a tape adapter, one that plugs into the charger part of the pod) and/or my jensen ipod alarm clock?
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    My dad bought me a Belkin charger today and when I plugged my 4th gen iPod in, it wouldn't charge. It said on the screen "Charging is not supported by this accessory" and it won't work with my Belkin TuneSync either. It just won't charge it for some reason.

  • User device affinity question

    hi there,
    I have a question around user device affinity with regards to users that have multiple devices due the usage of those machines.
    in most of our cases, users have 1 machine so any targeting of software with the requirement of user being primary user works fine, but we have a number of cases, mainly IT guys and engineers, who run up multiple machines constantly and therefore have
    many "primary" devices, although 1 will probably be their main computer.  If I targeted those users with an uninstall program for, let say Visio, and lets say visio was indeed installed on all of a particular users computers, then, as all those
    computers are regarded as primary device for that user, all visio installs will be removed from all computers.  there is no way to differentiate that I only want visio uninstalled from a users "main" primary device.  ie. it is a case
    of all or nothing.  is that correct, and if so, would it then be a better bet in these cases to uninstall using a computer based method rather then user based, or an SCCM technician would need to make sure that device affinity was cleaned up prior to
    any uninstall deployment?
    I can see how device affinity works nicely where users work as they are supposed to, ie with 1 device. but it is the groups that don't fit into this pattern that I'm trying to get my head around how to manage when deploying apps to users rather than the
    old method of packages to computers.
    also, as an aside, I assume that the uninstall program set up in a deployment type, runs the requirement tests before running in the same way that if you where running the install program it tests?
    thanks
    douglas

    To specify a primary device, you would need to set the User Device Affinity threshold.  By default, it is 2880 minutes over 30 days.  Then, when you create your Deployment Type, you would use the Requirements tab to set Primary Device = True.
    This way, it will only run on the primary device that was determined by that setting.
    And yes, the Detection Method runs for uninstalls the same way as it does installs.

  • "Other Devices" Yellow Question Marks

    In my quest to get sound on my computer, I have noticed that everything under my "Other Devices" tab under "Device Manager" has the yellow question marks beside them. I have a "Biometric Coprocessor" "Network Controller" "SM Bus Controller" and a "Unknown Device" tab listed here. Should I be concerned about these? And, if so, is this another driver issue like the sound was? Thanks for your time and here are my specifics.

    This table might help you.
    You also can try to identify the device in the device manager on the "Details" - tab of each device in the "Device instance ID".
    If there is an ID like "PCI\VEN_yyyy&DEV_xxxx..." input the "xxxx" in the right imput field on www.pcidatabase.com
    In the result list compare the "yyyy" (above) with the VEN-ID and then you have found the device name.
    Other/similar  "Device instance ID" starting with "USB..." or "ACPI" you will find in the table i've linked above.
    The drivers you will find here
    Have success.

  • Device Swap Question

    Semi-newb with super basic question just don't want to purchase wrong device...
    TL;DR Is there any real limitation to using the LG Revolution over the S3 for someone who just wants to surf, share pics, eBay, etc.?
    Hi, want to bring my dad into the current decade and upgrade his phone for him to a smartphone (not eligible for upgrade, just want to buy one and device swap). Android only.
    Anyway, the mandatory things are 4G capable, and a way to have text reflow when browsing the web as he can't read small font (for android you can get text reflow with Opera browser).
    Please suggest a phone! I have the S3, but it's still expensive ($180+ used). What about the LG Revolution VS910 ? It's like $50.
    The main question I have is- does it make a difference that the Revolution runs an old Android OS version (2.2 I think)? As I understand it, it takes a lot of effort (and $) to update devices to run the current version of Android, and that's why not all phones run the current version. So would there be any real limitations for him running an older version of the OS?
    What would he be missing having the Revolution instead of the S3? He wants to be able to surf the web, take and share pics, eBay and whatnot. If they are both essentially the same for him, then might as well save a few$.. Any other phones you could think of?

    I just bought my elderly parents smart phones and taught them how to use them.  My 71 year old dad got the HTC ONE and he loves it. I got my 70 year old mom a Droid Ultra. And When I say they love their phones I mean love them. My mom puts all her dr appts on her calendar,  she uses Color Notes and keeps track of her grocery lists and all her medications.  And she uses Alarm + to remind her when to take her medicine.  She loves the assistant app Robin and it's hysterical to watch them fight.  She was losing her sight so the Droid had so many great features so loves that helps her.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is its very important to match up people with the right smart phone or it can be very frustrating or it can help them a great deal.  It will take alot of patience to teach a new smart phone  user.
    If I had to make a recommendation for  a affordable used phone I would say try the Droid Bionic on eBay. Another good tough phone is the HTC Rezound.  Both are tough, not too old and fairly easy to use.  You probably can find in excellent condition for about  $60. 4G wi-fi, Jellybean. Good luck.

  • Need to send song to device in Another state?

    Does anyone know how to transfer a song from iPad to another in a different state.

    The only way to put music on to the device is through itunes or the itunes store.
    If both devices are signed into the same Apple ID, you can open the itunes store and go under purchased to download purchased items.
