Load ATV on both user accounts?

Newbie question:
What are my options? I have separate accts setup on my iMac. One for my wife and one for me.
Her account holds main iTunes library and mine has main iPhoto library. What is best way to connect and sync ATV? I just purchased and have not configured yet.
1. Can I load ATV on both user accounts?
2. Should I place iTunes and iPhoto into a SHARED folder on one account?
3. Do I need to TELL ATV where to find the iTunes library and iPhoto library?
4. Would I need to do fast switching if I want to use iTunes on her acct then switch to see photos from my account?
Thanks

CAPAHO,
Wrong place for this post but new to forums and do not know how to contact you directly.
I believe you have an Onkyo you use for your HDMI Inputs and HDMI Output to TV.
I just connected my ATV last night and had video and audio fine.
This morning, turned on ATV, Onkyo and Samsung TV and got video fine on ATV but no audio. My Onkyo says "No Signal". Tried cycling through digital inputs and listening modes but no luck. Turned off/on Onkyo and still not working. Any ideas?
I will probably address this topic in new post

  • I have itunes on one computer. my account says that I have 2 computers authorized. I want to have itunes on both users accounts on my computer. how do I do this? thanks for any help!

I have itunes on my computer in my main user account. I want ot have the same itunes on the other user account on my computer - under the apple account info- it says that I already have 2 computers authorized - how do I find out which 2 they are talking about?  the only button nearlby is one that says to 'deauthorize all' etc.... thanks,. I have a pc.

You can only deauthorize all your itunes computers once a year, so I would avoid clicking that at the moment.  Log onto the 2nd user, and open itunes.  Go to Store> Authorize This computer.
As an alternative, you could point the 2nd user itunes library to the primary itunes folder.  So both users would use the same itunes folder.  You can do this by holding shift, clicking itunes icon.  There should be an option to browse for an existing library.  Locate the main computers itunes folder. (Most likely under: C:\Users\*Account name*\Music where *Account name* would be your main user accounts name.
    Good luck!

  • Migration problem: migration assistant won't migrate both user accounts from time machine backup

My Mac was formatted due to some technical issues. Before handing to the lab- I backed it up using time machine ( and only that ).
I had two user accounts on the Mac before handing it to the lab.
One of them I never actually used -I'll call it the secondary.
The second one was the main one - which I used  all the time - the principal account. All my data is there on that account.
The Mac was formatted at the lab.
Using the setup assistant I migrated one user from the Time Machine Backup.
Only later I realized it was actually the account I never used.
Since I never used it - I couldn't remember the login password and had to reset it, took a while.
I then tried to to migrate the principal account - the one I actually wanted to migrate, in the fist place, during the setup procedure -  using the migration assistant.
At the relevant window I tick the principal account- the mac does some thinking and then in the login window my only options are the secondary account and guest account, the principal account is not to be seen.
I'm really really stressed and worried.
BTW -when looking into the actual external disk used for the Time Machine at this path: computer name--> backups-->macintosh HD -->users--> principal account - I see all the folders and files with a 'no entry' icon next to them.
clicking on the folders - I get the following notice - 'the folder xxx can't be opened because you don't have permission to see the contents''
    What's going on?
    I'm running on a 2.9Ghz intel core i5
    16GB RAM 1600MHz DDR3
    SW version: 10.9.4
would appreciate any kind of help,
    Thanks
    Dana

    thanks,
the thing is the Mac was behaving strangely - that's why I sent it to the lab in the first place.
This Mac is just over a year old but it's content was initially migrated from the older mac.
And it (the new Mac) wasn't working properly from the get go..
It took ages for it to start up and wouldn't start up if any external disk was attached (via USB).
I had to start it up and only then connect external disks.
In the lab - They couldn't find and HW issues.
So they formatted and reinstalled the OS - I think that's all they've sone in the lab
The idea was to start afresh and slowly reinstall softwares - only those necessary.
So, having said all that- does that change your answer?

my log in window shows btoh my user account and the system administrator (root) acount. how do i not show the system accout on the log in window?

I think you need to disable the root user assuming you have it enabled.
    Navigate thus;
    /Applications/Utilities/Directory Utility
    ...and then.....
    Edit>Disable Root User

  • Reader 11.0.10 errors to "not responding" and seems to only partially load for my main user account.

I am running Windows 7 OS.  I created a new user and it runs Reader fine so it is not a corrupted copy of Reader.  I have gone through my services list and made a couple changes with no solution.  I Started in diagnostic mode but still had the problem.  I have uninstalled Reader and re-installed several times.  I have uninstalled and run RegHunter to remove any registry problems and then re-booted and re-installed with no effect.  How can this be corrected?

  • Does all user accounts load the same drivers, plugins etc?

    Hi
Most of what I do on my Mac can be divided into "Music" and "Office-stuff".
    1. I want to create two user accounts so my system loads faster and is more stable because it only loads what it needs for the specific task. (And to avoid conflicts with drivers, plugins, settings etc. for the audio software with the drivers etc. for the officephotoshop+wirelessmenu bar stuff.) My question is: will creating two users help me? Or will both user accounts still load all the same stuff in the background?
    2. And how do I even install programs that only run on one user? It seems that all my programs are available for all users. And moving them around after installation as someone suggested to me sounds a little unsafe.
I wish for the two user accounts to share Firefox and bookmarks and I can't do that if I create disk partitions, right?
Thanks a lot guys. I hope you have some thoughts on this.

From your description and configuration you posted of having a single iMac TM backs up all of the accounts.

  • Syncing multiple devices, user accounts, iTunes accounts one computer

    I have a question that I can't find a clear answer.
I previous had one iPod touch and one iPad that I synched with my iTunes library. No problem. But now the wife has finally purchased a verizon iPhone and I want to be able to use my vast app collection for her phone.
Scenario is we each have separate user accounts (so we can maintain our own calendars and contacts, ect.). We each have our own ITunes accounts and our own iTunes libraries by default. She will not be purchasing much on her account though.
How do I, without creating a can of worms, create one library to sync to so I can put apps and music on her phone without erasing any of her separate information. I have read a lot on the subject and there does not seem to be a clear answer anywhere. Yes, I have read ht1495 but that does not seem to be exactly on point
Basically, I have 3 devices, 2 user accounts and 2 iTunes accounts but one computer only. I want to be able to have all iTunes stuff available on both user accounts and be able to have both people be able to read and write to the same library. I am sure there are plenty of people running into this issue with more and more people getting iPhones with verizon. It seems that it is easier to do with multiple computers than one computer.
So, I am looking for help or advice on the easiest way to accomplish this task.
    IMac   Mac OS X (10.6.6)

The easiest way to accomplish want you want is to transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library under each user account. To transfer content from your library to your wife's library so that she can use it on her phone, do this:
    1. Launch iTunes under your wife's login.
    2. Sign her out of iTunes & then you sign in.
    3. iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected.
    4. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
    5. Store>Authorize this Computer(only have to do this once).
    6. File Transfer Purchases(all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library).
    7. When complete, eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember, all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
This way you can share content(permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same under your login if you want to share content from your wife's library.
Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

  • Help... multi user accounts wont recognize ipod

I purchased the ipod nano for my husband as a present. We have one computer, running XP with multiple users. I installed the ipod under my user account and installed itunes6 fine. I was able to add music and pictures under my account. When my husband logs in under his user account. Itunes is there but the ipod does not show up under sources. It does show up in his account under my computer as a hard drive. How do I get itunes to recognize the ipod in his account?
Also I purhased additional ipods for my kids can we all use the same computer?

Tracy - I have the same arrangement as you do - I have 2 IPODs (wife's 5th gen 30Gb and my 4th gen 60Gb). You have to install the IPOD software and drivers (not ITunes) under BOTH user accounts and install the USB drivers and restart windows after it finds the new hardware and mass storage device.
XP is very user specific, so software and drivers loaded for your account do not all transfer to your husbands account on the PC. You will have to install the drivers / software for each IPOD for each new user individually.
After you get XP happy with the new hardware added, open ITunes, register the IPOD through ITunes, and point to where you want to store the library for each IPOD. If you intend to boh share the same library, point there and all should be happy.
Also note, if you have ITunes open in one account, and switch users and attempt to open ITunes again, it may give you some issues relating to library locations open from other users, etc. I would recommend that you log off each user, and use ITunes as a single user under your own log-in.
Hope this helps, and keep us posted...

  • Adobe Reader under 2 user accounts in Vista

I down loaded Adobe Reader 8.1 to my laptop running Vista Home Premium. My wife and I have separate user accounts in Vista, both being aministrative.
I have no trouble using Reader under my account but when my wife tries to use it under hers, she gets a "down loading file window" that runs until another window comes up that says "User agreement not accepted, must exit program". Also, Foxfire will open with a window that says "file not found". I've loaded and removed the program several times from both accounts with no change. Any HELP? You sure get no help from adobe!!!

If you want both accounts to have access to the same library completely - all tracks, playlists, ratings, etc. are identical and anything changed in one is completely and immediately reflected in the other, do this:
    1) First, make sure that all the iTunes content is in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder for one of the accounts. If you have content spread around the drive, this becomes a lot more difficult.
    2) Copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder) to a folder that both accounts have read and write access to. I'm not entirely familiar with Vista's permissions, but the Users -> Public or Users -> Public -> Public Music should work, though it's possible you'll have to adjust the Security settings for the folder to allow both user accounts to have full access.
    3) In each account, hold down the Shift key and launch iTunes. You'll get a dialog box offering to create an iTunes library or locate an existing one. Select the option to locate the library, and navigate to and select the iTunes folder in the Public (or other shared) location.
Both copies of iTunes will then point to exactly the same library files, so iTunes will be identical to both accounts and any changes made from one account will appear to the other. Note that you will probably not be able to have iTunes open in both user accounts at the same time via Fast User Switching.
    Hope this helps.

  • Share a mounted AFP volume across user accounts on the same computer

    Hi all,
I have a Mac Mini with several attached disks (HFS+). I'm using it as a file server, to share these disks over my home network. I'm mounting these as AFP server volumes on a second computer (MacBook Pro). This all works fine. Both are running MacOS 10.6.2.
The problem is that my MacBook Pro has two user accounts, and when I mount AFP volumes under one user, the other user can't access them. It seems that mounted AFP volumes are assigned read/write permissions for only the user that mounted them.
Ideally, I'd like to mount a volume once, and have it accessible from both user accounts. I've tried changing permissions in the AFP volume's Get Info window, but the changes don't take effect.
Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!!

  • ITunes keeps restarting by itself on another user account

Problem began since I started using a new computer running Vista Ultimate, 64 bit. Even though a second account on the computer that WAS using iTunes closes it, when I go to MY account WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO OPEN iTunes, window upon window opens telling me I can't run iTunes because another user is running it.
Then, when I go to the other account, I see iTunes OPEN! I'll close it, go to my account, and the windows keep opening again, telling me I can't run iTunes, even though I don't want to!
I wind up going to the Task Manager and closing iTunes helper and anything else I see with iTunes as the name.

I am running Windows XP and I've been experiencing this problem for a little while, not sure exactly when it started happening. Everyone once in awhile when I try to launch iTunes on my main user account, it won't run because it is running on another account (which I never want it to run on). I was just coming here to see if I can stop that from happening, I only ever want to run it on my main account.
I do notice that iTunesHelper is running on both user accounts, and that is probably directly related to my issue. I just plugged in my iPod and got the message than iTunes is running on another account - my guess is, with that iTunesHelper running on both accounts, it is luck which account sees it first and launches iTunes. However I have also received this message when I manually run iTunes as opposed to just plugging it in with the auto-detection.
That iTunesHelper is pretty inconsistent - I have seen it running on one account only, both accounts, and no accounts if I look in the task list. I think that is the main problem but I don't know how to prevent it from running on secondary user accounts.
In any event this problem is not isolated to Vista, and that is the main reason why I am posting in this thread.

  • Interface slow/buggy with two user accounts?

I've recently created a second user account on my 2009 27" iMac and ever since I've been having weird things happening, such as flash videos in safari becoming unresponsive (literally frozen) untill I move the safari window, which gets the video to play for a few more seconds, then it freezes again... Also, GarageBand does the same thing, when I press play I hear my music, but the play head freezes in place after a few seconds and the only way to get it to move again is to jiggle the GarageBand window, switch to another Space and switch back or press CMD ALT ESC to bring up the force quit menu (not actually force quitting the application, just the action of bringing up the menu is enough to get GarageBand to refresh and start playing again...). These methods also work with safari.
Quitting and reopening the applications doesn't fix the problem and restarting the computer brings temporary relief, but it always comes back. Sometimes safari is open on both user accounts, that might be causing the problem, I'm not sure. I do know that it started at the same time I created a second account.
So whats going on? I'm thinking it's maybe a graphical issue? I've tried doing a permissions and disk repair and while my hard drive was found corrupt, the repair didn't seem to make a difference. Is my only option here to delete the second account? Would that even work? Or is a trip to the apple store in order? I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue since ive never come across a bug in OSX that I couldn't fix myself!
    Thanks

A trip might be in order but not yet. First run software update, if your profile is correct you're a version behind as 10.6.8 is current, there may neither updates as well. Second reset the SMC and pram
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    To reset PRAM/NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

In a way, each iTunes libary is considered to be a different account. Your daughter's iTunes account doesn't have access to your wife's data which has all the verification data.
One option would not only to place the library in a Shared area, but also the verification data. I poked around and am not sure where it's stored. It's a good discussion to have with an Apple store Genius if you have one nearby.

  • 2 ipods, 2 user accounts, 1 computer, 1 library

    its got to be possible...
me and my girlfriend both have new ipods, we have one laptop at home that we both have seperate user accounts for. I've spent a while ripping all of our cds to itunes so we can listen to them.
I have a networked hard drive that we can both access and all of the music files are stored on this, both user accounts itunes point to this shared location.
Unfortunatly the problem is this only moves the content, not the library .xml files themselves. Although my g/f can see the mp3s she cant see my itunes library files so her itunes appears blank.
I thought sharing my library would work, but it seems that this is only true if you have a pc each, not a logon each.
I can manually copy my itunes library xml files to her "my documents" folder but if either of us then add or download new cds then the others isnt updated.
so my question? how can i make this work? i presume i need to move the location of our itunes library xml files to a common folder we can both access. I cant seem to find a way of doing this (i've already moved the actual music files themselves successfully)
How can you get round this as its "our" music we dont want seperate librarys, and no, i dont really want to grant her acceess to my logon (if only cos she might accidently delete stuff!)
    Ideas please...
    Thanks,
    Ian

Your idea about scripting got me thinking, i could write a vbscript to update the relevent files but this would have to be run manually or scheduled to run frequently, either way theres room for error. the link you gave me seems to do a simalar thing.
it gave me an idea about fooling itunes into thinking it was updating another location, as i only use my "my music" folder for storing my library xml (all other files are on the network drive) i changed the regestry keys for the my documents folder to a local folder with 'everyone' access.
    HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders (&User Shell Folders)\My Music\Value="C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\My Music"
and change value to "C:\Shared iTunes Library"
A search in regedit will bring up any other locations that need changing.
Do this with both user accounts and it works a treat, one big library working with two seperate user accounts on one laptop :o)
The free app "tweakUI" makes the registry chnages for you i've just found out!

  • Two user accounts - transfer e-mail from one to the other.

Hi, I set up a private account and would like to move mail from my main account into the in/out boxes of my private account - some files but not all.
How do I transfer between them?

What exactly do you want to transfer to the private user account? Do you want to transfer en entire mail account or some selected messages only? Do you want to remove them from the main account after they've been transferred? Do you want to share the same mail account between both user accounts?
More info on what exactly you want to do, please, since the best approach is not the same in all cases, and permission issues may need to be carefully taken care of.
