Load balancing on cisco rv042

Hi friends,
This is regarding I am facing issue with configuring the load balancing in cisco rv042 .I had configured the load balancing between dual wan of leased line and adsl coonection but loadbalancing is not working fine kindly help me on this

If i close one link it takes 20 seconds of downtime and then ping goes without loses.
In the end i decided to go with PBR, since the deadline for our project was surpassed.
I set up acl that matched every other 32 adress block:
    10 permit ip 192.168.100.32 0.0.0.31 any
    20 permit ip 192.168.100.96 0.0.0.31 any
    30 permit ip 192.168.100.160 0.0.0.31 any
    40 permit ip 192.168.100.224 0.0.0.31 any
    50 deny ip any any
Set a route map that sends that traffic trough one of the interfaces (Gi0/1) and let routing do the rest:
track 1 interface dialer 0 line-protocol
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0.0 Dialer0 track 1
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0.0 GigabitEthernet0/1 10
Its not exactly what i wanted but its close enough:)
Thanks for your advices.

Trying to load Balance several Cisco ISE servers.  For persistence, Cisco recommends using Calling-Station-ID and Framed-IP-address...Session-ID is recommended if load balancer is capable of it.  I have documentation for the Cisco ACE, but using F5 LTM's.  Assuming this has to be done with an I-Rule as none of these are available as a default.  Not sue where to begin.  I tried attaching the Cisco PDF, but not able for whatever reason.

Please also keep in mind that When using a Load-Balancer (anyone's) you must ensure a few things.
Each PSN must be reachable by the      PAN /  MNT directly, without having to go through NAT (Routed mode LB,       not NAT). No Source-NAT. This includes the Accounting      messages, not  just the Authentication ones.
This means the       Load-Balancer must be in the direct path between the clients and the ISE PSNs.
Some       organizations have used Policy  Based Routing (PBR) to accomplish the       path, without physically  locating the Load-Balancer between the clients       and the PSNs.
Endpoints (clients) must be able      to  reach each Policy Services Node Directly (not going through the VIP) for       redirections/Centralized Web Authentication/Posture  Assessments/Native      Supplicant Provisioning, and more.
You may want to "hack"      the certs to include the VIP FQDN in the SAN field (my next blog post      should cover this trick).
Perform sticky (aka: persistence)      based on Calling-Station-ID and Framed-IP-address.
VIP gets listed as the RADIUS      server of each NAD for all 802.1X related AAA.
    Dynamic-Authorization (CoA):
If you use       Server NAT to replace the  PSN IP address with the VIP Address for Change       of Authorization,  then you would use the VIP address as the       Dynamic-Authorization  (CoA) client.
Otherwise, use       the real IP Address of the PSN, not the VIP.
The LoadBalancers get listed as      NADs in ISE so their test authentications may be answered, to keep the      probes alive.
ISE uses the Layer-3 Address      to  identify the NAD, not the NAS-IP-Address in the RADIUS packet. This       is a big reason to avoid SNAT.
    Failure Scenarios:
The VIP is the RADIUS Server, so      if the  entire VIP is down, then the NAD should fail over to the Secondary       DataCenter VIP (listed as the secondary RADIUS server on the NAD).
Use probes on the Load-Balancers      to ensure that RADIUS is responding, as well as HTTPS (at minimum).
LB Probes       should send test RADIUS  messages to each PSE periodically, to ensure that       RADIUS is  responding, not just look for open UDP ports.
LB Probe should       also examine the response for HTTPS, not just look for the open port(s).
Use node-groups with the L2-adjacent      PSN's behind the VIP.
If the       session was in process and one  of the PSN's in a node-group fails,       then another member of the  node-group will issue a CoA-reauth; forcing       the session to begin  again.
At this point,       the LB should have  failed the dead PSN due to the probes configured       in the LB; and so  this new authentication request will reach the LB &       be  directed to a different PSN…

    Hi Samarjit,
you can do this by specifying the port number in the class map that you create . Please find the below mentioend config guide where you can specify the tcp/udp port , range or ports or even the wild card to match the port.

  • Per Packet load Balancing in Cisco Switches

    Hi Team,
Can we enable per packet load balancing/sharing in cisco 3560 and 4948 Switches ? I can see two routes are installed in routing table for a destination prefix but for traffic to specific destination is not going across both the link. The option what i am getting  in command line is ip load-sharing per-destination but not  ip load-sharing per-packet.
Please do let me know is there any option to do per-packet load balancing
I have tried disabling route-cache, cef etc.. no result.
    Rgds
    Rama

    Hi Ramachandra,
On both these platforms per packet load balancing is not surpported.  it is a feature mostly seen in routers.
it can use the following variables for the load sharing hash  (but the per packet is never used)
    Source ip
    Dest ip
    Source tcp port
    Dest tcp port
so you can configure flow based sharing based on above parameters on both the switches.
The more random variables going into the hash equation the more likely of an even distribution across links.
The src/dst ports in the equation gives us this randomization. If the same (static) variables go into the hash, the
    same link is chosen.
Follow this link for more details:

  • Load balance issues with RV042

    Hi,
I have some issue to configure my RV042.
I have 8 voip phones and 10 pcs on my network. I used DHCP to attribute IP between 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.20 to the phones and over .100 to the PC. I want my phone to have their own connexion. My switch doesn't support VLAN
Here is a screeshot of my config
The phones use WAN2, the PCs use WAN1 except to send emails.
Everything seems ok. If I change the ip of my computer to 192.168.1.19 I can verify on the web that my public ip is know as the one of WAN2, and if I change for 192.168.1.115, my public IP is the same as WAN1.
Few days ago, I checked the web interface of my phones provider and I watched the public IPs of each of my phones. Some have the wan2 IP but other have wan1 IP.
I thought I forced my phone to use WAN2 internet connection ... so how would my phone providers know the wan1 public IP ?? Is there another thing I have to check or force to avoid my phone tu use WAN1 ??
    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Krzysztof,
Another set of good/interesting questions posted. Thanks!
I will try to clarify your doubts.
In the output below both resources (proxy-connections and ssl-connections rate) are configured with a min percentage of resources (column Min), while 'Max' is set to equal to the min.
    ACE/Context# show resource usage
                                                         Allocation
Resource         Current       Peak        Min        Max       Denied
-- outputs omitted for brevity --
      proxy-connections             0      16358      16358      16358      17872
      ssl-connections rate          0        626        626        626      23204
Most columns are self explanatory, 'Current' is current usage, 'Peak' is the maximum value reached, and the most important counter to monitor 'Denied' represents the amount of packets denied/dropped due to exceeding the configured limits.
On the resources themselves, Proxy-connections is simply the amount of proxied connections, in other words all connections handled at layer 7 (SSL connections are proxied, as are any connections with layer 7 load balance policies, or inspection).
So in this particular case for the proxy-connections we see that Peak is equal to the Max allocated, and as we have denies we can conclude that you have surpassed the limits for this resource. We see there were 17872 connections dropped due to that.
ssl-connections rate should be read in the same manner, however all values for this resource are in bytes/s, except for Denied counter, that is simply the amount of packets that were dropped due to exceeding this resource.
For your particular tests you have allocated a min percentage and set max equal to min, this way you make sure that this context will not use any other additional resources.
If you had set the max to unlimited during resource allocation, ACE would be allowed to use additional resources on top of those guaranteed, if those resources were available.
This might sound a great idea, but resource planning on ACE should be done carefully to avoid any sort of oversubscription, specially if you have business critical contexts.
We have a good reference for ACE resource planning that contains also description of all resources (this will help to understand the output better):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/ace/v3.00_A2/configuration/virtualization/guide/config.html#wp1008224
    1) When a resource is utilized to its maximum limit, the ACE denies additional requests made by any context for that resource. In other words, the action is to Drop. ACE  should in theory silently drop (No RST is sent back to the client). So unless we changed something on the code, this is what you should see.
To give more context, seeing resets with SSL connections is not necessarily synonym of drops. As it is usual to see them during normal transactions.
For instance Microsoft servers are usually ungracefully terminating SSL connections with RESET. Also when there is renegotiation during an SSL transaction you may see RESETS, but this will pass unnoticed for end users.
    2)  ACE will simply drop/ignore new connections when we reach the maximum amount of proxied connections for that context. Exisiting connections will continue there.
As ACE doesn't respond back, client would simply retransmit, and if he is lucky maybe in the next attempt he will be able to establish the connection.
To overcome the denies, you will definitely have to increase the resource allocation. This of course, assuming you are not reaching any physical limit of the box.
As mentioned setting max as unlimited might work for you, assuming there are a lot of unused resources on the box.
    3)  If a new connection comes in with a sticky value, that matches the sticky entry of a real server, which is already in MAXCONNS state, then both the ACE module/appliance should reject the connection and that sticky entry would be removed.
The client would at that point reestablish a new connection and ACE would associate a new sticky entry with the flow for a new RSERVER after the loadbalancing decision.
I hope this makes things clearer! Uff...

    Telmo

  • Default WAN in RV042 Load Balancing

If I choose the RV042 mode as load balancer and bind some protocol to specific WANs, what will happen to the protocols that I didn't bind to any specific WAN? will they go to WAN1 by default?
    Thanks

    Hi,
When Load Balance is enabled, RV042 will dispatch (using weighted Round Robin) incoming sessions to WAN1 and WAN2 according to the ratio of the WAN bandwidth. A session is defined by a TCP connection or a UDP stream with certain timeout.
I found this in the users guide.
    *  Dual WAN. There are two functions provided for users – Smart Link Backup and Load Balance..
    *  If Smart Link Backup is selected, you only need to choose which WAN port is the primary and then the other will be the backup. See Figure 6-22.
    *  If Load Balance is selected, there will be two main choices:
    •    By Traffic – Intelligent Balancer (Auto) and user defined. See Figure 6-23.  First, choose the Max. Bandwidth of Upstream (64K/128K/256K/384K/512K/1024K/1.5M/2M/2.5M or above) and Downstream (512K/1024K/1.5M/2M/2.5M or above) for WAN1 and WAN2, as provided by your ISP.
    •    Intelligent Balancer (Auto): When choosing Intelligent Balancer, it will automatically compute the maximum bandwidth of WAN1 and WAN2 by using Weighted Round Robin to balance the loading. If (upstream / downstream / upstream or downstream) bandwidth is excessive (30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%), bring up the second link.  When there is an inactivity time-out (None/10min/20min/30min/40min/50min/60min), the second link will be terminated.
Adding to this is the operation of Network Service Detection (NSD), which allows RV042 to ping the liveliness of the default gateway of the WAN port or a specified Host. The retry timeout and retry count will affect how long RV042 determines the WAN is down. By default the detection time is
(Retry timeout) + (Retry count) * (5 sec)  // the 5 sec is hard coded (which is about 1 minute)

    Hi  Ram ,
For  troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
Just about any load balancing solution will work, including a server that runs the Web Server (IIS) role running Application Request Routing (ARR):Install
    Application Request Routing
Install the certificate on the load balancer as described under Securing Office Web Apps Server communications by using
    HTTPS.
Make sure you have configured the cluster correctly for full internet name:

  • Request failover between Load Balancer and OAS 10.1.3.3

    Hello,
I have a Load Balancer hardware "Cisco 11500 content service"
Working on 4 applications server OAS 10.1.3.3 on the oracle enterprise lunix
We are using Oracle HTTP Server And deployed application Under (j2ee) I am using Cluster between them "instant” as the same on all 4 servers
If an OC4J process goes down between requests, then this module is able to hide that failure from the end user by transparently routing the next request to another OC4J that is available within the same group of JVM.
BUT when I shutdown the opmn the Load Balancer Hardware is still sending that requests to the opmn that is already down
How can I configure or fix that request that is common to that opmn stopped process

  • Server Load-balancing and ACL router decision

    Hello,
My 2 server farm distribution switches are running in "hybrid" mode, with CAT OS on the switch and IOS on the MSFC.
My server team is asking to block traffic to a specific server that is load balanced using Cisco's CSM load-balancer which is also installed in the chassis.
The question that I have is this.
Does anyone know in what order the MSFC will inspect and apply the ACL and when will the CSM make the load balancing decision?
The reason I need to know this is that the CSM is setup in bridged mode, where traffic to the server comes into the MSFC with a destination IP of a VIP which resides on the CSM. Subsequently, the CSM forwards the traffic to the one of the real servers in the load-balanced server farm after it makes its load-balancing decision. Which ocurrs first??
Does anyone have any info on what ocurrs first and so forth??
Is there a link to Cisco's website that explains this process??
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tony

    Tony,
It sounds as if your setup is like this:
    Client VLAN----MSFC----VLAN A----CSM----Server VLAN
With VLAN A and Server VLAN being the same IP subnet.
In this case all client traffic reaching the VIPs on the CSM first traverses the MSFC. So, if you want to block traffic to a specific VIP or Server IP you can do that on the MSFC's Interface for Client VLAN. You could configure an access list that filters inbound traffic on that VLAN interface.
    Make sense?

  • Question about Load Balancing Wireless connections using WLC- F5- ISE

    Hi all,
Can anyone give me some orientation how the radius auth process/handshake between the WLC and ISE changes once the F5 is installed in the middle in order to perform load balancing?
We can do some kind of load balancing by configuring different radius servers on each WLC for which, I must configure the same shared secret in the WLC and ISE so the radius request/accept could be processed.
Now that we have the F5 in the middle, do I need to create/configure the same shared secret in the F5 so radius transactions can be processed by this device?. Based on the following link, I must configure the F5 in the ISE like another NAD device (similar to the WLC) but I do not know if this additional configuration in the ISE includes the Auth parameter to be added in the ISE NAD (F5) configuration.
How to properly use a load balancer in Cisco's Identity Services Engine
    http://www.networkworld.com/community/blog/load-balancing-cisco-identity-services-engine
    Our sheme is shown next,

When you covert the pair into SSO, all the APs will go to the ACTIVE unit.  No unit will "live" in the standby unit because this unit will "share" the AP-support license between the two.
This is the first step you need to get sorted.  Send an email to [email protected] and give them the exact details of what you want to do (i. e.  AP SSO) and then provide the serial number of your nominated active WLC and the serial number of your nominated standby WLC.

In Actual scenarion customer access  application by accessing URL: http://132.186.199.243:5001/emi and once he enter this URL in web browser the request redirects ( by server itself)  to URL: https://132.186.199.44:6002/cas/login?service=http%3A%2F%2F132.186.199.243%3A5001%2Femi%2Findex.jsp&acceptStrength=BASIC on backend server for user authenticaton and once user is authenticated then it again redirect to main URL ( http://132.186.199.243:5001/emi ) to access the application but when we are trying to access the application through VIP ( URL: http://132.186.199.146:5001/emi) we are not getting the login page as the request is not gettting redirected to backend server for user authentication.
    Please suggest a solution here.

The problem is that you are in one-armed mode.
So you need to configure client nat.
Without nating the client ip address, the server response goes back directly to the client and bypasses the CSS.
Therefore the client receives a response from an unknown server ip address (not the vip).
    So configure a group.
    For example
    group Client
        vip address 132.186.199.146
        add destination service Server1
         add destination service Server2
        active
Also, remove the url command from your content rule.
It is useless in your case and will just make performance worst.
    Gilles.

  • ACE Routing Load-Balance problem

I'm trying to configure a routing load-balance with Cisco ACE Module based on the following scenario:
local users has a router (R1) as it default gateway, this router (R1) has a default route to the VIP that represent the serverfarm with two linux servers that should be used for Data Shaping over the WAN. I need to balance the traffic over the two linux servers and not necessary over the WAN.
The problem is that when I set up the local network router default route to VIP the routing process simply stop work ! If I change the route to the real server ip address everything start working again without any problem.

I tried to change some parameters like "transparent" at serverfarm config and change the "predictor" method to "hash address source" but there was no good results at all.
Anyone has any idea why this process is not working ?
Is there any special configuration for this scenario ?
    Regards,
    Ricardo

    Ricardo,
    What is this route ??
    ip route 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.0.1 (VIP address)
    You can't have 0.0.0.0/24.
You must be missing something ?
Also, since the vip is part of a vlan with subnet 10.0.0.0/24 you don't need to add a static route to reach that vip.
It should normally be directly connected to your router.
With the static route, do you see traffic coming to the ACE module ?
Does it loadbalance to the server ?
'show service-policy detail' check the packet counters

  • Cisco RV042 - Dual Wan Load Balancing - Secure Site (HTTPS) Trouble

    PID VID :
    RV042 V03
    Firmware Version :
    v4.0.0.07-tm (Aug 19 2010 19:19:50)
Ever since I setup my RV042 with load balancing using the Dual Wan system I have had trouble staying connected to some secure sites. After doing some searching I found that the potential issue is the IP change mid session.
Although my interface is significantly different I was able to find the same area in my RV042 admin area however, it doesn't seem to work.

In Wan 1 & Wan 2 I have HTTPS and HTTPS Secondary all forwarded to use Wan 2 under Protocol Binding
This however has not managed to do anything at all for my network and every computer conneceted experiences the same HTTPS irregularities at some websites.
I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is.
Both incoming connections are from the same service provider although the plans are different.
Any help with this would greatly help me stop losing my mind trying to fight with my website control panel for 10 minutes to just login and get something done.
    Thanks

Any ideas or advice from anyone?
