Load external file as a blob?

Hi!
The target is: to check TGA file's color depth.
How? - to load file as a blob and to read byte number 16.
Similar to get information about compression etc...
So, the question is - is it possible to read an external file by javascript in AE?
Thank you in advance!

Pg. 47 of the JavaScript Tools Guide CC.pdf talks about the File object. My guess is that you may need something more than just ExtendScript to dive that far into a file as I didn't see any obvious direct answer in the guide.

  • FAQ: SWF's and loading external files in Flash Catalyst

    How do I make the images in my Flash Catalyst project external to the published SWF?
    You can choose whether images are embedded in your Flash Catalyst SWF, or loaded dynamically; this can help to keep your SWF's small. Simply right-click an image and chose "Externalize Image".

    How do I make the SWF I imported to Flash Catalyst load external files?
    When importing a SWF, Flash Catalyst only pulls the SWF asset into your project. Many SWF's, such as slideshows and media players, rely on external data files, such as configuration files or media assets. If you would like to use such a SWF in Catalyst, then you will have to place these external resources into your Catalyst project as well as importing the SWF.
    Let's assume you have a SWF source folder that contains your SWF file and all of the external files it needs. You can open the SWF file from this folder and it works fine. But, if you import the SWF into Catalyst, the Catalyst project doesn't display it correctly because it can't load the external files. Here's what you do:
    1. Open your swf source folder, and copy all of the files/folders there except the SWF you imported.
    2. In Catalyst, Run/Preview your project (Ctl/Cmd-Enter)
    2. Note the file path to Main.html in your browser
    3. In your OS, open the folder that contains /bin-debug/Main.html from above
    4. Open the "src" folder
    5. Paste all of the files from step 1 into the src folder.
    6. Catalyst won't pick up that your project changed, so tweak it a bit (add a Rectangle), and save it.
    7. Run your project. If it doesn't work, try closing and reopening your project and running again.
    For an example, check out: Using an XML-driven SWF in Catalyst to create a slideshow.

    You can make you swf a custom component with 2 states.
    The first state will be empty and rename it "OFF" the second state will have your swf file and name it ON.
    Then go back to your artboard/project, add your 2 buttons ON & OFF.
    For the ON button add interaction "play transition to custom component ON"
    For the OFF button add interaction "play transition to custom component OFF"

  • How to load externl files (PDF) into BLOB column.  Please help.

    Hi All,
    I've currently been working on loading many external binary files (PDF) into BLOB column. After some digging, I learn that the SQL*LOADER can be used to load data from external files into table. I also got help from another forummate mentioning to use PL/SQL procedure to do so. Since I have not done anything like this before. So, my question is what is the simple approach needed to upload PDF files into a table(there is only one table containing BLOB column in my database). In addition, the LOBs can not be query-able, I wanted to list the contents of the LOBs column to make sure that I did successfully upload data into the database. How can I do that?. I do need your help. Please direct me step by step how to do so. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Load external files

    I created fifteen 300 X 250 sized movieclips. I've adjusted each movieclip into different sizes. Now I need to load 15 external files in to these movieclips. (all external files are 300 X 250).
    1. When I load the external files, all the loaded files does not adjust to the resized movieclips (all external files are maintaining it original size). I need the loaded files to be resized as per the movieclips on stage.
    2. Is there a short way of writing the code to load these 15 external files?
    //movieclips on stage: gHolderF0, gHolderF1, gHolderF2
    //external files : sample0.swf, sample1.swf, sample2.swf
    I'm using this to load each external file:
    var loaderPrototype:Loader = new Loader();
    var selectedPrototype:URLRequest=new URLRequest("sample/sample0.swf");
    loaderPrototype.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, finishLoading);
    loaderPrototype.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, errorHandler);
    loaderPrototype.load(selectedPrototype);
    function finishLoading(loadEvent:Event) {
    gHolderF0.addChild(loadEvent.currentTarget.content);
    addChild(gHolderF0);
    function errorHandler(errorEvent:Event):void {
    trace("file missing");
    function errorHandler(errorEvent:Event):void {
    trace("file missing");

    adding a child (loader or otherwise) is going to affect the scale of the child and the position of the child.  but you can't assign the exact size unless you do some intelligent scaling of the parent.  for example:
    after loading is complete:
    gHolderF0.scaleX=300*loaderPrototype.width;  // resize to 300x250
    gHolderF0.scaleY=250*loaderPrototype.height;
    but that really makes no sense.  you may as well resize the loader directly:
    loaderPrototype.width=300
    loaderPrototype.height=250;

  • Loading External Files From SWF Root

    Hi All,
    I do not know anything about flash.  I have been provided with some flash movies/apps to include in a web design that I am doing.  These flash movies load an external xml file.
    This is failing.
    The problem appears to be that when the flash movie goes to load the file using a relative directory path, it starts at the very root of the web directory, where the main jsp file is, instead of the where the .swf file is located.
    For example, say my website is www.mywebsite.com/mysite.jsp and I have stored the flash in a directory similar to /mywebsite.com/flash/movie1/movie1.swf.
    When the movie goes to play, I am getting a 404 error in firebug because the flash movie is trying to load the external xml from /mywebsite.com/file.xml instead of /mywebsite.com/flash/movie1/file.xml.
    How can this be corrected?  Is there a way for the flash application to use the .swf root directory instead of the .jsp file root directory?
    I hope this made sense.  Good chance it doesn't.

    When you load the Flash file into a web page, the web page becomes its frame of reference for loading other content.  So to fix this situation you should either relocate things to where the Flash file lives in the same directory as the web page that loads it, or retarget the files that the Flash file is loading as if it were in the web page's folder (using absolute paths should guarantee correct targeting).

  • How can I load external file .txt in After Effects CC 2014.0 Release / Mavericks OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)?

    ello everybody.
    Someone can help me to load a external file .txt in After Effects CC 2014.0 Release / Mavericks OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)?
    I tried the code bellow, but doesn't work.
    try{
    myPath = "~/Desktop/source.txt";
    $.evalFile(myPath);
    eval(thisComp.name)[0];
    }catch(err){
    "MISSING";
    The source.txt file have the texts bellow:
    var comp1 = ["Title”, “Subtitle”, “Description”];
    var comp2 = ["Text 0", "Text 1", "Text 2"];
    var comp3 = ["Text 0", "Text 1", "Text 2"];
    Thanks.

    This is the text file (with the modified first line) that I used:
    var comp1 = ["Title", "Subtitle", "Description"];
    var comp2 = ["Text 0", "Text 1", "Text 2"];
    var comp3 = ["Text 0", "Text 1", "Text 2"];

    BTW - I did test it on AE CC 2014

  • Load a file to a BLOB from Forms6i

    Hy!
    How can i load a file into BOLB using forms 6i?
    Daniel.

    To my knowledge there are two ways:
    1) Using an OLE container. I don't know what patch of forms 6i you are using and I don't know if that works fine with BLOB but I know it does work well with LONG RAW columns. However, you will probably be able to retrieve your .DBF object only from within Oracle Forms 6i and you need a "helper application" installed on the client machine to display or do whatever needs to be done with the .dbf.
    2) Using the DBMS_BLOB package. However, I am not very familiar with that approach. You may wish to do a search in this forum for BLOB and you may be able to find a solution using that package.

  • Loading external files into movieclips

    Hello,
    I'm importing images from a folder into movie clips located in my flash, the clip on my first frame loads the graphic, but i can't quite get the others to work
    function loadImage(path:String):Loader{
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(path);
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    loader.load(request);
    return loader;
    var image1 = loadImage("image01.jpg");
    this.addChild(image1);
    var image2 = loadImage("image02.jpg");
    imageArea2.addChild(image2);
    var image3 = loadImage("image03.jpg");
    imageArea3.addChild(image3);
    Cheers

    I faced a similar problem before. For some reason using one single loader object to load multiple files was not working for me. Try using multiple loader objects. You can also make your loader object listen to a Complete  event just to make sure that the image is added to the stage only after it is completely loaded.
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, addToStage );
    private function addToStage(e:Event):void
         your_mc.addChild(e.target.content);

  • Loading class file stored in BLOB field

    - I am able to store and retrieve Java files and XML files in and from a BLOB field, but when I store a class file and try and load it using Class Loader, it us unable to load the class. The size of the class file increases by 1 byte when I retrieve it from the database. Is this some security feature by the JVM? Is it not possible to store, retrieve and load a class file from a database table?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    First, I would suggest you use fiddler (http://www.telerik.com/fiddler) to compare these two different client requests, second, please try to use Azure Storage Explorer (http://azurestorageexplorer.codeplex.com/) to do
    this instead of the Azure Web Storage Explorer.

  • Loading External files in Oracle - error (double quotes on columns)

    I managed to successfully load some external (Excel ) files in my Oracle database, but when I queried the table, I see that some of the columns have double quotes on them. Any idea how to remedy this problem?

  • How to load external file

    I have about 100 tiff files. I have to add an external tiff file to all 100 files. All 100 files receive the same external tiff file.
    Is there a way to automate this task  which does not involve using  the place file via dialog box?

    I would try the following:
    1. Record an action with one of the files.
    2. Make a droplet from the action.
    3. Drag the folder with the remaining 99 files to the droplet.
    (Backup your files first or work on copies should anything go wrong)

  • Flash cs4 mac - Error opening URL '/:Users:someting.swf' - Not a "loading external content" problem

    Hello.
    I am having a weird problem when trying to test a movie or publish preview -> flash on mac with Leopard os.
    The result is a blank movie with the usuall "movie not loaded" if u right click on it and the output returns the "Error opening URL 'the path of the swf here'.
    This has nothing to do with loading external files or something like that. It happens even in blank movies and it gives the same error if I try to open a swf from flash ide.
    I can publish the project or export the movie with no problem at all.
    I can preview the movie in html. I can run all the swf files in my hard disk, network, usb stick, dvd etc., but when I try to open any of these files from flash ide I got that stupid error.
    Its not something that stops me from working in flash ide but its slow to export movie any time I want to test it.
    Things that I've tried so far but nothing worked:
    Update the flash cs4 to the latest version
    Update the flash players
    Restored the release flash player as default player (I am using as default the debug player)
    Cleared the preferences
    Move the flash cs4 folder to another location in hd
    Saved the fla document first before testing the movie (in different places with or without spaces in document name or folder)
    Give read & write permissions for everyone for flash.app, players and for fla files when saved first before test movie
    Unistall and install the application 3-4 times.
    Test every as version just in case.
    Also I've checked the folders when testing movie and I can see that it creates an swf file, which I can run it outside flash ide (the one that the flash ide player cannot load) with no problem.
    The mac os has the default set up as it came. Nothing chnaged in permissions or security settings.
    Thanx in advance.

    In this particular example I am using this code to start the
    xml file load:
    // now load the XML file that contains the content strings
    var sXMLFile:String = "xml/home.xml";
    var xmlContent:XML = new XML();
    xmlContent.ignoreWhite = true;
    xmlContent.onLoad = onXMLLoadComplete;
    xmlContent.load( sXMLFile );
    But I don’t think the code is the problem here . This
    happens on every file I load when I am using a relative path to the
    content, regardless of how I load the content (XML object,
    loadMovie, MovieClipLoader, etc…) and the same code executes
    perfectly on every other machine in the office(Mac and PC).
    I’m more concerned with the semi-colons and .swf filename
    that Flash is putting into my relative path on the error message.
    Is that normal?

    I know how to use "GET_FILE_NAME" to get the file, the second part is what I'm having problems with. Do I use an OLE object? How do I initailize it? Or what is the best way to go? Thanks.
