Load new fonts

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if there's a way to make Photoshop recognize newly installed fonts. When I install a new font, I have to restart Photoshop several times before I'll see the new font(s) in the list. It seems like there must be a better way.
Thanks!

Now he tells me!
You never mentioned it was Arial Narrow, or I would have pointed you to this:
http://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/2008/09/arial_narrow.html
And now you know the rest of the story.
And how to fix it!

  • How exactly to load new fonts into Gimp???

    Hi,
    I've tried everything I can find in teh forums and the wiki to load fonts into Gimp 2.3. They just will not appear in the fonts dialog. It's driving me nuts.
    Can someone please spell out exactly how to do this?
    I've loaded the fonts into /root/.fonts - no go. I've loaded them into gimp's font dir - no go. I've run fontcache - no go.
    I'm at my wits end.
    Jim

    You should put the fonts in your user's ~/.fonts (I hope that you don't run Gimp as root?). Then just run fc-cache -v to update the font cache and restart Gimp.
    If you haven't modified /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, the entry <dir>~/.fonts</dir> should be listed there and thus the users ~/.fonts directory will be searched for fonts.
    Have a look at the Archlinux wiki as well:

  • Automatically loading a new font in a flash

    I was thinking of making my own font for my flash website,
    but the problem is , the users will not have the font, therefore it
    will only show the default font for them.
    There is a flashchat program (web driven) that has new fonts
    on it, that when chosen, you see a small loading bar below and the
    font is automatically loaded somehow. (they used actionscript 2.0
    though)
    Could someone please inform me of such a method? I am using
    flash cs3 pro.

    Hi,
    There is an example in the examples folder ExecutingSequencesInParallel that should help you.
    The first sequence call has been setup to run in a new execution.
    All you would have to do is include the ProcessSetup Callback Sequence in your sequencefile and perform your new sequence call from there.

  • How do i download a new font from the web then add it so i can use it freely in 'word'?

    I am having terrible difficulty using a font that i down loaded on to my macbook pro. I can see it in my font book but no matter what i do it does not appear in my 'Word' font library. Its in Font Book but it seems set to stay there and do nothing. Im tearing my hair out here! In simple simple simple terms can anybody give me step by step info on how to down load a new font then get it so it can be used just like all the pre list fonts?

    Have you tried restarting the MBP? (Btw, you should post this question in the Snow Leopard forum -- there's nothing here specific to the MBP.)

  • Illustrator can't find new font

    I am trying to use a new font I just downloaded online. When I try to use the font it doesn't show up in the selection. I looked and the font is located in my user > me > library > fonts folder but still won't find it. I even tried to put it in Macintosh HD > Library > Fonts with also no luck. I tried this with multiple fonts to see if I have the same issue...sure enough, I did.
    These are .ttf files.
    It's funny because all the Adobe programs refuse it but programs like TextEdit, and Font Book seem to find it fine.
    Any help?
    System: Mac OS X Version 10.6.2

    Jacob should probably not be giving advice to someone on the Mac system because no matter how many times this is posted he always tells it his way.
    But when trashing the preferences on a Mac what you really need to do is trash the entire Settings folder, as is probably true of the Windows platform…because the folder itself can become corrupt. Also as has recently been posted so can the permissions for that folder and its content.
    This is how you find the Adobe Illustrator settings folder
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
    4. Also you may on occasion have to trash the com.adobe.illustrator.plist file also in the same User/username/Library/Preferences/ directory but a little further down.
    Then check the permissions you do that by using the disk utility and then manually checking it by right or control clicking on the Illustrator icon and going to get info to the bottom you will see where you can change the sharing and permissions you may have to change the permissions for all the users listed though on my Mac it works fine this way.
    However if it is a question of the fonts not showing up it may not be the settings for Illustrator depending on what font manager you are using it maybe the font manager or something wrong with the fonts or the system itself.
    i have had this happen to me as well after updating software but for sure I do not recall what software it was that causes this.
    But I use Font Agent Pro and by quitting and restarting Font Agent Pro seemed to always fix it.
    I suggest getting a font manger other than Font Book though some users are happy with Font Book.
    If you add your fonts with font book they will show up in your applications.
    Trying to load them yourself is probably not so helpful as you might think best to use something like FAP or Linotypes free type manager I think it is called font Explorer.

  • How create new font in sap

    Hi,
    We want use Times roman in our smart form.
    i tried to load the fonts using spad and se73.
    still it is not reflecting in the report.
    regards,
    viren.

    Hi,
    Apart from SE73 i think that you have to create a new print control, which will probably contain the name of the font in hexadecimal code. I am not very sure of that but you can find the following SAP note a bit helpful...
    <b>SAP Note Number: 12462
    How can I define a new printer font?</b>Version: 7, Note Language: EN, Released on: 28.08.1998
    Symptom
    Key word:  Printer font
    What settings have to be made to define a new font for an R/3 device type (that is, a new printer font) that can be used for SAPscript documentation output.
    Additional key words
    Printer, font, printer font, device type, fontmetrics, AFM file, SE73
    Cause and prerequisites
    You would like to use a new font on the printer.
    Solution
    General advice:
    1. This procedure can be used only if the desired font is available on the printer (that is, installed on the printer itself, installed via font cassette, resident in the printer via softfont download or, in case of device type SAPWIN/WIN, installed on the Windows PC) and can be called with a short printer command (max. 29 bytes). This printer command is maintained in the print control.
    Solution procedure:
    1. The original SAP printer type used previously must be copied to a customer printer type with a name starting with Z... (see Note 3166 for reasoning behind this). The function "Utilities->Copy device type" from transaction SPAD (spool administration) is used for this.
    Example: HPLJIIID is copied to ZHPLJ3.
    2. A new print control SFxxx must be maintained for device type Z.... It contains in most cases the printer control commands for setting the desired font. To find out what this printer command looks like, refer to the printer manual and the print controls SFxxx already contained in printer definition  Z... . A certain amount of knowledge of the printer language is a prerequisite. The xxx numbering of the SFxxx print controls is arbitrary.
    NOTE: The exact contents of the SFxxx print controls depend on the SAPscript printer driver used. For information on this, consult the CD documentation ("Basis system administration printer handbook") and the field documentation (F1 help) for input field "Print control" in SE73, Printer font maintenance.
    Printer driver HPL2 (PCL 5 printer):
    SFxxx must contain the PCL 5 command for character set and print selection. CAUTION: As of Release 4.0A there are special rules which apply if the flag "Scalable font" is activated.
    Printer driver POST (Post script printer):
    SFxxx must contain the name of the Post script font, for example "Helvetica"
    Printer driver PRES (Kyocera PRESCRIBE printer):
    SFxxx must contain the PRESCRIBE command "FONT xx:" for font selection, for example "FONT 42;"
    Printer driver SWIN (Windows print via SAPWIN/SAP1pd):
    SFxxx must contain the Windows font name. CAUTION: As of Release 4.0A special rules apply if the flag "Scalable font" is activated for the printer font.
    Printer driver STN2 (Target printer):
    SFxxx must contain the complete command for the selection of the
    character set, the increment, bold and italic print and font.
    Print control SFxxx is defined for device type Z... in transaction SPAD under the heading "Print control for device type". Example: print control SF900 for device type ZHPLJ3 with replacement text (i.e. printer command)
    1B28304E1B28733070313068313276307330623354 is created.
    3. In the SAPscript font maintenance transaction SE73 under "Printer fonts", a new entry must be made for the desired font on the desired device type. The following information must be given:
    &#61607;     device type  Z...
    (printer type to which the font belongs)
    &#61607;     family   ....
    (Font name used in R/3, for example COURIER, HELVE, LETGOTH, LNPRINT, TIMES)
    &#61607;     size      ...
    (Font size 1/10 point, for example 240, for printer drivers that support scalable fonts, 000 is entered here)
    &#61607;     bold      .
    (X if bold type, otherwise blank)
    &#61607;     italic    .
    (X if italic type, otherwise blank)
    &#61607;     CPI       ..,..
    (number of characters per inch (CPI)
    If font is not a proportional font (for example HELVE,TIMES),
    for example 05.00)
    &#61607;     PrtCtl 1 SFxxx
    (Refer to field documentation (F1 Document) for exact meaning. The name of the 2nd created printer control is normally entered here.
    &#61607;     PrtCtl 2 SFxxx
    Refer to field documentation (F1 document) for exact meaning. The name of the 2nd created printer control is normally entered here.
    If the font is a proportional font (HELVE or TIMES), an AFM file that contains the width values for the individual characters in the font must be entered under "Printer fonts" in SE73. Direct maintenance of the AFM data is done from the list of printer fonts with Menu "Edit -> fontmetric using a menu function. To do this you place the cursor on the line with the newly created printer font and choose "Edit->Copy fontmetrics" on the menu. If you have created, for example, a new printer font
    ZHPLJ3 HELVE 200 _ _
    you can copy the metric of
    ZHPLJ3 HELVE 160 _ _
    here.
    Releases before 3.0A do not have this menu function, and you must manually copy the AFM files from the group box to the new printer font via the XX.XX function in the AFM editor. Then the new AFM files can be checked for correctness (Menu "Fontmetrics ->Check") and saved.
    As of Release 3.0 it is possible to establish a link to the fontmetrics of another device type or to a default (all characters with width 500) instead of copying the fontmetrics explicitly. You can check the correctness of the complete font definition in SE73 in the list of printer fonts with the function "Edit->Generate font def.".
    4. As a final step, the device type of the output device used must be changed from the SAP original to the new printer definition Z... in transaction SPAD. This is done in SPAD under the heading "Output devices".
    Example: printer LP05 previously had device type HPLJIIID and is now being given device type ZHPLJ3.

  • [SOLVED] "Loading console font" fails at boot

    Hello everyone,
    At each boot, the line where it loads the console font fails. The font configured in rc.conf is "161", it's the one by default on installation.
    /var/log/boot
    Loading Console Font: 161 ^[[231G [BUSY] ^[[231G [FAIL]
    It's a fresh install done today.
    Any idea why it would fail that?
    Last edited by blno (2012-01-06 21:18:47)

    Navigate to /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts, pick the font, test it by issuing
    setfont font-name.gz
    -- and if everything works OK, add it to rc.conf and rebuild your initramfs.
    Edit (because I'm extremely short-minded): while adding the font to the rc.conf file, do so without any extensions, eg. Uni2-Fixed16. And 2: before you rebuild your initramfs, it's wise to add "consolefont" to HOOKS in mkinitcpio.conf. It's not obligatory, but this way the new font will become active at the earliest boot stage.

  • Load TTF font ???

    hi,
    i'am trying to distribute with my application an external font.it's loading correctly but nothing appear on screen :/
    JLabel label = new JLabel("Hello World");
    FileInputStream stream = new FileInputStream("c:\\LED.ttf");
    Font f = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT,stream);
    label.setFont(f);
    does it's possible to set a font that is not in normal system path ?
    vincent.

    I once did it like that for a special font used via a label. It works for both file system and jar files:
    public class CSpecialFontLabel extends JLabel {
         private static final String URL_FONT = "appl/gui/font/ariblk.ttf";
         private static Font m_font;
         public CSpecialFontLabel(int style, int size) {
              loadFont();
                  setFont(m_font.deriveFont(style, size));
          * Draws the version info.
         public void paint(Graphics g) {
              Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
              g2d.setRenderingHint(
                   RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING,
                   RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);
              super.paint(g);
          * Loads the font for the version info
         private void loadFont() {
              if(m_font == null) {
                try {
                        InputStream is = this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(URL_FONT);
                        m_font = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, is);
                        is.close();
                   } catch (Exception e) {
                        // loading font failed -> use std. Font
                          m_font = new Font("Arial", Font.ITALIC | Font.BOLD, 60);
    }

    The desired behavior is to load a truetype font, write hello in a JPanel, and then draw the alphabet on a BufferedImage and write it to a file, I thought the poorly indented WindowAdapter would be a minor enough infraction to get away with, I tried the version of createFont that takes a file, and while I've certainly never heard it encouraged I've never heard of not removing IDE comments being poor practice(although I do try to leave my name off the internet), sorry for that. Also, on reflection I guess I could have left out the part about writing a png, it kind of made it's way into the smallest model of what I'm trying to do but the problem is just loading the font.
    Anyway I think I figured it out, the font was created, but it had a size of 1 because when I called the deriveFont method I passed integer values for my size, but that ended up causing the derivedFont method that accepts an integer for a style to be called. I tried font = font.deriveFont(20f); and that solved my problem.

  • Loading external fonts

    I'm stuck with this problem:
    I have a specific font installed on my computer.
    I putted the ttf file of that font in the jar of my project and it works fine.
    But logically when I run the jar on another computer it won't load the ttf file
    How do i solve this problem?
    This is the specific code that i use now...
    InputStream in = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/Fonts/Digir___.ttf");
    Font font = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, in);
    Font font2 = new Font(font.getName(),font.getStyle(),30);Thanks in advance,

    I have a Swing application reading an inputStream to load a ttf file from the application's jar-file to create a font via createFont().
    It works fine when compiled and run in SDK/JRE "1.6.0_07" and below; runs fine on 1.5.
    I installed SDK/JRE "1.6.0_10-rc"; it fails now, with java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method),
    Jars previously compiled with "1.6.0_07" work fine using "1.6.0_10-rc" run-time.
    Please advice; my concern is the long-term compatibility since I distribute the application and needs operation across Windows, Mac and Linux, until now this has not been a problem; please advice; the resolution and/or correct usage to load a ttf-file from a distribution jar-file.
