Load Office 2001 onto Mac Mini

Dear Group,
I just bought a Mac Mini but I can't seem to load Office 2001 onto the computer.
When I insert the installation disks the icons to install are "X"ed out on the CD. The was a trail version of the software on the computer but I already have the software. I tried to delete the trail version from the hard drive and then install the software but it still does not work.
Any suggestion on loading the software???
Thanks,
Alberto.

Because Mac OS X on a G3 can run a mode called Classic, which brings up Mac OS 9 to be able to run Office 2001. In addition, you could have switched to Mac OS 9 booting on a G3 as well to run Office 2001.
Here's my FAQ on the differences:

    New user, so many questions.....
But to start, Bought a used ibook, after trying open office and not liking it much,m thought I would try to install a copy of office 2001 for mac that I got from a friend.
Tried to install and it says I need to run OS 9....
I don't have that, and this has always run OS X. Do I need to get a copy of OS ( in order to run this program, or is there an update I can download to make this compatible?
Just hate to have to buy another version of office if there is a simpler way to make office 2001 work....
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Installing Office 2001 for Mac on new Mac Mini

I own a copy of Office for Mac 2001 that was used on my older iMac.
I thought I could install this on my new Mac mini with OS X. However, after attempting to install from my CD I get an error message saying it is not compatible on the system.
Does anyone out there know if you can infact use an older version of Office for mac on the new Mac mini's? Or, do I need to purchase the latest and greatest version of Office for my new system?
There's got to be a way... don't want t spend another $600 when I have the older version that works fine.
    Thank you!

You need to install SheepShaver to use Classic and Classic applications such as Office 2001 on an Intel Mac. The current version of Office will run from Mac OS X, and all of its components except for Virtual PC run in Mac OS X on an Intel Mac.

  • Clone Mac Book hard drive onto Mac Mini

    Hi All,
I own a 2009 MacBook Pro and have very recently bought a Mac Mini.
I would like to clone the MacBook Pro's hard drive onto the Mac Mini, so that, when switching it on, the Mini is an exact replicate of the MacBook Pro, including all content, software and other bits.
I own an external hard drive that is large enough to contain all of the MacBook Pro's data.
Could someone help me in describing the detailed procedure for me to clone the drive as desired?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, this will not work as you won't be able to boot the Mini because Macs cannot boot from an OS version older than what they came with (I assume the Mini is running Mountain Lion or mavericks?). You can, however, transfer your files, etc.
FWIW, please update your profile: you are not running iOS on the Mini as iOS is for iDevices, not computers.

  • How can i install microsoft office on my Mac mini from a CD-rom ?

I recently bought a Mac mini and a microsoft Office on a CD-Rom.
But i can't find anywhere i can insert the Cd-Rom in order to install the software... How can i do please ?

Much easier than the above (from Ms website):
Option 1: Convert your Office for Mac 2011 trial. To convert a trial version, you must have a valid product key. The product key will convert your trial into a fully licensed version of Office for Mac.
Locate the 25-character product key in your product package or confirmation email.
Open any Office for Mac application, like Word, PowerPoint, or Excel.
On the first screen of the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant, click Enter your Product Key.
Enter your product key and complete the installation instructions.
Option 2: If you have not previously installed the trial version, you can download Office for Mac from the Office for Mac website. To download, install, and activate the software you must have a valid Office 2011 product key.
Locate your 25-character product key found in your product package or confirmation email.
    Go to www.officeformac.com/download
Click Get Started to start the download process.
When prompted, enter your 25-character product key and select your product language.
When prompted, sign in with your Windows Live ID or sign up and create a new Windows Live ID account.
After you enter your Windows Live ID, you will see a link to download the software. (You will also receive a confirmation email with a link to your My Account page if you prefer to wait and download your software at a later time.)
Click Download Now to start the download.
Save the file to your desktop. Do not change the file name.
When the download is complete, double-click the .dmg file icon on your desktop. This opens the Installer application in Mac OS X.
Follow the instructions in the installer screens to complete your installation.

  • New office configuration - is Mac Mini Server a viable choice?

I am totally reconfiguring our business back office. We have 2 MacBook Pro's, 2 new IMac's, 2 older iBooks, 3 iPhones, and a newly purchased Time Capsule. We also have a Windows desktop that is solely used for Quickbooks accounting, as well as 2 HP printers.
We want to have seamless file sharing, program sharing, and printer sharing. A consolidated email would be nice.
If I purchase the min server, can I use one of the 500gb HD to use solely for a Windows accounting purpose, of which I could use Parallels or VM Fusion, and use the other 500gb HD for everything else. Is this the right direction for us or should we be looking at something else.

I use an older mac mini 1.85GHz as a server with SL.
I have 6 mac clients and two windows PC's I use the server for mail, group wiki's (10), I tunes server, file server, Ical/Address book server and as a home PC liked to the TV.
Set up can be a bit ricky if you are new to the OS, I am a PC technician used to Windows Server, and whilst the UI in SL server looks easier than windows (those nice on and off switches) there is lots to configure behind the scenes to make it sing properly.
The server will do all that you want and it does make sense to go with it especially as you have the macbook pros, set these up with PHD and you will sync back to the server nicely.
As far as quick books goes, just set up a share for the windows machines on the server, no need to use a separate drive, and the pcs will access the data seamlessly.
    Enjoy !!!

  • Upgrading office machines to Mac Minis?

Hello all. I work for a small design office (5 total, 3 designers) that is way behind the times in terms of upgrading. My boss has been researching it for some time now as he continues to suck as much life out of his old Macs as possible. Anyhow, because we are small, we have a bit of a budget. I saw the Mac Mini intel upgrade news and am wondering if this is a reasonable option for our office. The cost per unit is significantly less than the full G5's or G4's we've been looking at. I'm wondering, however, if the minis can handle the programs we'll need to run (and usually simultaneously): Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, Word, Entourage (sp?), Dreamweaver, Stopwatch. This is a list of what I usually have open (except for InDesign, Dreamweaver and Entourage they'll be new additions to our program list) on my machine at one time, while also saving imagery and project files.
Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
Really old   Mac OS 9.2.x   Need to upgrade

As PPC7410 mentioned, there will be a considerable amount of software upgrading to do when Universal Binaries are out. However, it will be as much as 18 months before Adobe releases UB's of the CS suite. And from the tests that have been done by Macworld and others, the CS2 suite is not real speedy running under Rosetta. While it may be ok for the occasional user, designers using the apps for professional work will probably find them too slow while running under Rosetta.
Again, as PPC7410 mentioned, there are G4 Mini's available still. But they can only hold 1GB RAM. While having all the apps that you mentioned open at once may not be a problem, actually trying to use one of them such as Photoshop may prove to be problematic. Photoshop loves memory.
Running older Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign apps via Classic may not be good enough for pro work. I'm assuming you are using the OS 9 versions of the apps. I've had no trouble with Illustrator 8 or 9 via Classic but Photoshop gave me some issues. I can't remember what they were as it has been a while since I tried it. And I should reiterate that Classic is NOT available on the Intel Macs.
The Mini I have has 1GB RAM. I just opened the CS1 versions of Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. I also opened the MS Office 2004 versions of Word and Entourage. Since I don't have Dreamweaver, I opened the CS1 version of GoLive. I don't have Qurk Xpress or Stopwatch. I also have Safari open as well as Activity Monitor. I can already tell I'm having memory issues just typing this post. And a quick look at Activity Monitor is showing my Page outs are increasing. So I would say that the Mini may not be the right machines for your group.

  • Time and date reset to 2001 with Mac-Mini

    Hi all,
I am a newbie with Mac, I just got a new mac-mini some weeks ago from Apple store. Everything is ok, except that, when I start my mac-mini, the time is reset and the date is reset to year 2001. I first saw that settings were to start with a network device, so I changed it and set to start from hard disk. Doing this, I pressed "restart", and it worked, the time and date were no longer changed. However, if the mac-mini stays for some hours turned off, the next time I start it it resets again the date and time, and it alerts me that with this new time&date settings some programs may not work well. So I need everytime to go to time&date setting and to change manually them, which is indeed annoying.
How can I set definitely time&date, and why does the mac-mini resets them?
    Thanks
    mac-mini early 2006

    Hi,
    thanks for your answer.
I would eliminate the second option, cause it does not seem to go into shutdown, and moreover I have other PCs which do not suffer from power supply issues.
I asked a pc-shop and was told that maybe the small battery inside the motherboard is over and need to be changed. Is it possible? The mac-mini is just come out from the factory!
If your first option is true, I am afraid I need to send it to assistance at Apple!
    Thanks a lot
    Bye

I recommend following the steps mentioned in this document : Resolve Installation Issues
Running the cleaner tool will remove all instances of CS5, CS4 & CS3 products from your computer so that you can perform a fresh install.
Please read the instructions to back up your files (not necessary if you have nothing to back up).

  • Can't log new user onto Mac Mini Server

I can't log a new user into Mac Mini server.  Have added the user to the Workgroup Manager, and am now trying to use the password created there for log-in on user computer. Any advice?

Do you have Server Access Control Lists (SACLs) configured?  If so, you will need to add this new user to the appropriate SACLs before it can connect.  As an example, when I create new users, I need to add them to the File Sharing SACL or they never see any available shares on the server.

  • Problem Logging Onto Mac Mini

When I turned on my computer, instead of the three accounts showing up on the first splash screen there was a prompt for the name of an account and the password. When I entered the account names and passwords (I tried all three accounts that I have on my mac mini), it said that the passwords do not match the account name (I know that the passwords are correct). Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Try to boot from the install disk and then check the user names on the Reset Password Utility. If you want you can go ahead an reset the password as well just to be certain.

  • Should i load office to my mac - some bits of office 10 i miss ?

I have been using my mac now for about 3 months and really love it to bits but I have office 10 [bought it thinking I would never be able to use pages etc] but for reports and bits I really miss like shapes for presentations and the thesaurus when typing - would just love best of both worlds but dont want to slow down my mac?

You've bought it, so why wouldn't you install it? Just use whichever app suits your purposes best for each individual job or task. You aren't going to slow down your Mac.
