Load Shared Music on Shuffle?

I have 2 Macs running iTunes. I have purchased music from the Apple Store on both computers. When running iTunes, I can play the shared library on my second computer, but I can not drag any songs from the shared library to my iPod Shuffle. How can I get songs from both computers onto my shuffle?

hi Chris
I don't believe you can load shared music onto the iPod. You can only listen to it in iTunes.
that's quite true. same goes for burning from shared playlists. so if Kevin wants music from both computers on an ipod, he would have to use one of the "using ipod with multiple computers" techniques. unfortunately, that's not so easy with an ipod shuffle. (which is covered in the user tip.)

  • Itunes 10.5.1 will not load shared music

I have an Iomega Home Media Server which worked fine with iTunes but does not any longer.  I would be grateful for suggestions as to the cause and even happier with a fix.

    Try this,
    Go to Command prompt
(Start/All Programs/Accessories, right mouse click "Command Prompt", Run as Administrator.)
In the DOS screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit ENTER key.
    Reboot computer.
Check to see if your iTunes is working now.

  • Import button not working - moving shared music to library

My import button is showing, but I can't click it (it's faded, not as bright as operating buttons). I have shared my old computer's library and am trying to import the shared music to my library. I currently appears on the new computer, but I can't get the import button to work. Yes, I do have both accounts and passwords matched up.

You can't load shared music into the iPod. You can play the songs on your computer, but you can't copy them to your own personal library nor to the iPod. The only thing I could suggest you do is move all of the shared music to your own computer and/or copy the songs from the original CD's to your computer.

  • Transfering Shared Music to Library

I have 64 songs in my Shared Music folder and I am trying to transfer these files to the IPod Nano Library, only anything I try does not work.. I am trying to transfer these because no songs will download to my Ipod. I'm assuming that they need to be in the library in order to transfer to the Ipod.. If this isn't correct, does anyone know how to get the files downloaded to the Ipod??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Most of us do not have this problem and can connect to our libraries on demand, it would therefor seem reasonable to assume that the issue lies somewhere other than iTunes or the Apple TV, my first thought is network issues, have you done anything to ensure it's not your network.

  • Party Shuffle with Shared Music

I saw this question posted a few times (all of which are archived and do not allow posting of replies). Does anyone have any good info as to why Party Shuffle can't pull from a shared music library? The only real "workaround" is to play the library and select the "Shuffle" button, but you obviously don't have control over what songs get played next.
I would really like to see this available. Is it in the works or should I just not expect it at all.

Doesn't look like anyone else cares... Oh well...

  • Shared music and movie library stops loading

The shared iTunes music and movie library stops loading on my ios devices.
iTunes 11.1.5 is set up for both home sharing and library sharing over my secured home wifi network. Home sharing between the mini that is running iTunes and my old Macbook works without any issues.
My ios devices can see and will eventually connect to the shared library but connecting is pretty slow unless the ios devices are in the same room with the mini.
After a few hours my ios connection to the shared music and movie library drops and stops loading halfway when I try to reconnect.
The ipad is running ios 7.1 and my iPhone is running ios 6.1.3.

    Hi Jay Clay and Hagerty,
I'm in the same boat.  I'm running iTunes 11.2.2 on a Macbook Pro (running 10.9.3) and iOS 7.1.1 on an iPhone 4s; so running the latest version of software is not the issue.
The username logs in correctly on all devices and I can actually see the iTunes library available to share on my device.  From "Music" on the phone, I go to "More > Shared" and then select the library that is shared from my Macbook.  So I know that the login information is correct.
The circular status wheel begins to load and gets halfway around before it stalls and does not resume.  This process happens repeatedly, so it's reproduceable and consistent -- not a one-time issue.
I've tried restarting both systems, but the same problem ensues.  I've also tried signing out and signing back into Home Sharing on all devices, which did not resolve the issue.  I've read and followed all the recommendations in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing", but these really only offer solutions if you're not able to see the shared library; which is not the issue that I believe Jay Clay, Hagerty and I are having.
    Some thoughts:
Could it be that the iTunes library is too large?
Could it be that Home Sharing times out if the library is not loaded in a set amount of time?
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing on my iPhone, for your reference.
Also, here is the confirmation page I'm seeing in iTunes, so Home Sharing appears to be working.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Just started home sharing with another computer, if I sync my iphone will it load my music to the newly shared computer?

I just started home sharing for the first time. I just wanted to know if i sync my iphone with it will it load my music from the other computer onto the newly shared computer. Or are they supposed to have diffrent stuff in them? ( if so, if i sync my phone to the one with nothing will i loose the music thats on it?)

The computer you sync your phone with has no relevance to home sharing. Home sharing between the 2 computers allows you to see, play and import items on the second computer from the first and vice versa.
Whichever computer you sync your phone with, new purchases will be added to that computer and therefore be able to be seen, played and imported by the other.
I rather thought that's what you wanted, it can be realised without changing the computer you sync your phone to. Of course if you want to change the computer your phone syncs with, you can, you just don't need to, to get the items on it onto both computers.

  • Questions on organizing/sharing music files on 3 PC networked drive

I just added 1Tb network drive to 3 pc home network... I am planning on moving my iTunes music folder from the older, smaller network drive. I exceeded the 160GB size of the old drive when converting all of the WMA losselss files to Apple lossless while maintaining the old WMA files(I still think the Windows Media Player system is superior). With the new addition to our network, I am planning on the 3 pcs sharing music files... (my wife has been using iTunes for a while, I have just recently went over to the dark side)
What is the best way to organize the files??
-How to shuffle all without the folder of Christmas & Holiday music playing.
    -Segregate each users individual files.
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated, I know it would save a lot of time and pain instead of the trial and error method.

Thanks, Jason & Mike. This is how I resolved the problem. Turned out the disk with the data was in NTFS format. Neither my eMac nor my wife's Carbon iMac (prehistoric, in other words) was able to read it, on repeated attempts. In process I discovered (to my surprise) that the external hard drive attached to my eMac (a 320 Gig My Book) was formatted in FAT 32 format, and that the PC laptop (Thinkpad) read from it, and wrote to it, without any problem. (Is FAT 32 less than optimal for use with a pre-Intel Mac?). So I just copied the needed files from the NTFS disk to the FAT 32 disk, via the Thinkpad. When I reconnected the FAT 32 drive to the eMac, it turned out that it was easy [with some fiddling] to put the titles of the new music into the iTunes Library, without having to copy the music itself into iTunes. Making playlists does still seem to have to go manually. Sometimes the "New Playlist from Selection" option automatically gives a name (the original name) to the album from which the music came, sometimes it doesn't. Rationale not clear to me. Other problem: often the sequence is jumbled (this is after I added the whole collection of folders containing music to my iTunes Library in one fell swoop). Usually it was possible to correct this by copying track names for albums one album at a time from the external HD (in Columns view, selecting all the tracks in each folder simultaneously) directly into the playlist; the playlist name then always had to be copied or typed in separately. I don't know if I'm missing an easier route. Also, I see that I have version 4.7.1 of iTunes - I'll download a newer version! Don't know whether newer version will affect what I want to do in a positive sense.

  • Using remote to play shared music from NAS

Unfortunately, search is off, so I can't see if somebody has already posted similar question.
All of my music is hosted on a ReadyNas Duo NAS unit. A couple of my computers use this as an only way to play music. I'd like to be able to control it using the Remote application, but shared music is not available. Is there a way to make this work?
For the record, on one machine I have a regular iTunes database that uses links to songs on the NAS - that is playable using remote, of course.
    Thank you very much!

    At Last !
Following the recent iTunes 7.1 update I can now share the music from my HiFidelio and play it in Front Row . The first time I try to access the shared music , it fails , but the second time it does indeed load correctly . I think it just takes too long to load the track listings from HiFidelio and Front Row simply doesn't wait long enough for the first attempt to respond , it must still load it in the background which means that the second attempt does work . I suppose if I kept iTunes open I wouldn't have any problems .

  • Confused about sharing music between two ipods

I have a 30GB ipod video, and I bought my husband an 8GB nano for Christmas. I have been searching the threads trying to figure out how we can share music, but I seem to get conflicting information. I understand how to create separate libraries and I think I understand how to allow him access to my library (move itunes music folder into public folder?) but am still unclear about sharing music between ipods. Because in some of the posts, I have read that while you can share music and listen to it via multiple itunes libraries, you can ONLY listen to it on the computer--you cannot get it onto another ipod due to anti-piracy measures.
I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library. I was hoping to set up a separate library for him, import my music files into it, then let him delete the artists he's not interested in and add the music he wants that I don't. But I don't want to go through all that if he won't be able to play the shared songs on his own ipod.
I hope all this makes sense. Can someone who shares songs in this way give me some advice? Again, I would like for us to maintain separate libraries but I would like to make mine available to him so he doesn't have to reimport all the CDs I've already imported (and I don't want to waste computer space by having multiple copies of the same songs).
    Any help would be appreciated!

I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library.
    Ver easy to accomplish.
I have one library, two 4GB iPods and ~20GB of music.
Rather than duplicating libraries or creating separate user accounts/sharing music you can't load, etc. which simply takes up space on the disk drive, use the same library and use sync only what you want.
Create playlist(s) of your own music from the library.
Add/remove from those playlists as you want.
Connect your iPod, select it in iTunes and select the Music tab.
Select Sync music, Sync selected playlists and choose what you want.
The way I do it is I create a main playlist (Chris's Music) of music in the library that I like.
I also create a smart playlist (Not Chris's Music) and set it to Match Rule - Playlist is not Chris's Music.
This helps to manage my music by showing all music not in main playlist so I can browse for music I may have missed or now want to add.
I do the same for my daughters iPod except she gets to pick her own stuff.
This way whenever any music is added by either of us, it is available to the other with no problems.

  • I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track listing.  What the heck?!

I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track order.  What the heck?!

If you have music that was purchased on different iTunes accounts than the one you use, then you must provide the password, otherwise the tunes are not considered yours.  You can turn off iCloud and just use the usual USB sync method.  But I wonder whether you'll have the same problem?

  • Cover Flow with shared Music

    Hi,
is it possible to use Cover Flow with my shared music?

I have the exact same problem. I guess we're a minority enough that Apple doesn't care about those with large iPods and laptops (so no syncing).
The problem is that with iTunes 7, it was changed to accomdate CoverFlow. Previously, all album art added was automatically embedded into the file.
However, CoverFlow deals with loading lots of images, so iTunes 7 stores the album art in a folder - instead of embedding - in your iTunes directory as a "cache" so that it can easily and quickly retreive the images when you view CoverFlow (as opposed to having to reload every time).
You can't use CoverFlow for iPod music because iTunes doesn't have the image data stored somewhere consistent, and so would have to reload the album art everytime you reconnect your iPod and use CoverFlow, and then keep this image data stored on your computer even if that iPod is never again connected. This could be a strain on your resources, and so I guess Apple decided to play it simple and allow you to only use CoverFlow for music it knows that it has a cache for and that it knows still exists.
The best way around it is if you can store all your mp3s on an external drive, then when you add them to your library you'll be able to use CoverFlow.
Other then that, Apple's message seems to be "get a desktop" or "get a nano."
