Load up speed slower after removing XP partition.

I have just realised that since deleting my XP partition, the Apple logo tends to take half a minute to appear, and it also stays there for longer than before... Once it has flicked to the main boot page (ie, the blue bar that goes 'wizz' across the OS X box) It loads very fast.
The only thing I am wondering is why a process that used to run very efficiently has changed its 'normal' activity. I guess it may have something to do with the machine searching for more than one partition, if that is the case, how do I make it KNOW that there is only one now!
It happened with my old core duo Macbook pro too.
Any suggestions or fixes welcome... Cheers

I've only had a problem with the startup so far, although I rarely take notice of the hard drive, I dont use msn, and I also don't own a DS, but they look like great fun!
I tried repairing disk permissions but I haven't used the system since, so If it helps I will tell you.
Windows was functioning like it should, but I installed it to play HL 2 Death Match and my ping/latency is so high I get booted out of the servers which is a bit frustrating, considering I bought Xp pro especially for this purpose!

  • Very Slow Performance After Removing Windows Partition

    Hello,
Recently I went through a failed attempt at installing Windows 7 onto my Macbook Pro using boot camp. After this failure I decided to try again another day and used the boot camp assistant to remove the Windows partition.
Ever since doing this, my computer has been running extremely slowly and beach balls on the simplest of tasks.  I have tried resetting the SMC and my PRAM all to no avail.  I have also used Disk Utility to verify my disk and it says that my disk looks OK.
Has anyone else experienced this/know of any possible fixes?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
This may happen sometimes due to anti-virus or firewalls also.Disable them and check if it works better...Or, otherwise try these:
    - First uninstall the latest Windows Updates.
Click on the Start Button> Type Windows Updates in the Start Search box > Click View Installed Updates at appears at the top > In the Installed Updates screen Sort the updates as per installed date by clicking on the Down arrow next to installed and choose a date or last week...
Uninstall the updates that were installed recently one by one. Do not restart.Click cancel on restart window.
Then perform a clean boot as shown in the link and follow these steps:
    Perform a clean boot  >
In the start search box type msconfig > Click Startup tab > Click disable all at the bottom > Then Click services > check the box next to Hide all microsoft services at the bottom > Then select disable all > Click Apply > Ok and restart.
Once it restarts then go to windows updates and complete all the updates > Restart and check. If it works better then Go bak to msconfig and enable only the startup programs and services that are required. Enable few and check again..
Let me know if problem continues..
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • Why can't I recover disc space after removing Windows partition?

    Greetings,
I have an early 2008 iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo with a 500 GB HD that I have steadily updated from Leopard to Mountain Lion.  I also had partitioned my HD using Bootcamp 2.0 to run Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.  Everything hummed along nicely until the upgrade to OS 10.8.2. After that I could no longer start up in the Windows partition, ostensibly due to system registry files having become corrupt (or missing).  After several vain attempts at recovering Vista, I determined to start over using Bootcamp (now upgraded to 5.0), but 5.0 would install Windows 7, apparently not Vista. I was able to remove the Windows partition using Bootcamp 5.0 (the Windows drive no longer shows up at start up when I hold down the option key Macintosh HD and Recovery 10.8.2 remain).  I was hoping to recover the remaining HD space for the Mac.  In Disc Utliity, it shows the Mac HD occupies 337 GB of space (about 86 GB is free). The remaining 162 GB is greyed out.  If I resize the Mac HD to take up the remaining space and attempt to repartition it says "Partition Failed -- couldn't modify partition map because file system verification failed".
I would like to recoup as much of the 162 GB as feasible, but at this point neither Bootcamp nor Disc Utility seem to be helping.  How can I accomplish this? Thanks.

I have a problem on my early 2011 macbook pro customized with core i5 processor and 500gb hdd regarding BOOTCAMP for Installing Windows 8 on OS 10.9 Mavericks
I tried to install windows 8 with bootcamp on OS X 10.9 Mavericks but while partitioning bootcamp was not responding and then i force quit it. After that i opened disk Utility and it showed no partitions for windows 8.
But then my HDD which had 210GB free later showed as 136.27 Gb free only. IT means that my partition was not successful and it took up 74GB on my HDD.
I dont want to erase my HDD and Reinstall OS X but want a solution to get my 74GB space back on my hdd without troubles of formatting and restoring from backup.
    Plz Help Solution Needed Urgently.

  • Wireless internet speeds slower after upgrading from 10/2 to 50/25?? Using olders revision Mi424WR.

We have been using the oldest version/revision of the Actiontec Mi424WR router provided by verizon for 3+ years.  Recently we upgraded from an outdated 10/2 internet plan to our current 50/25 wireless plan.  The speeds when wired are fantastic, but with wireless, on multiple computers the speed even right next to the router hovers at about 10mbps.  I understand about the degradation and limit of wireless signals, but we should absolutely be getting higher download speeds than 10mbps(~1Mb/s).  On our older 10/2 mbps plan our devices were receiving consistant download speeds of higher than we are getting now, maxing out at 1.6Mb/s usually.  The only change that has been made recently is we reset the router to fatory settings, leading me to believe that wireless settings that were in place before are no longer there and throttling wireless speeds.  I do not expect to get the full 50+ mbps speed that I am getting from wired, but I do expect my wireless speeds to be consistent with our upgraded plan(let alone slower than our massively slower old plan).  Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You should definetely get better speeds even with an older router, upto about 20 or so.
If that works for you, then it's probably just a little wireless interference.
you can change that in the router.   open a browser, and go to http://192.168.1.1
user name is admin.  and the password is most likely the serial number found on the service tag of your VZ router unless you changed it. Once you login succesfully, go to the top and hit wireless, then on the left basic security.   then go to option 3 which is channel  1, 6 and 11 and are the only channels you should try.
So it will likely be set to auto, change it to 11 and put the check for keep settings even after reboot (Directly under the channel) and then hit apply.  after you hit apply,  test your connection out, if you notice a difference, leave it like that until the problem happens again, and if it happens again, go back into the router, and try channel 6,     test it out.  and then finally 1 if the first two don't work.
Also take a look at page 2 of Actiontec's Wireless PDF File.  It gives you some idea's with regards to position and orientation of where the router sits and how it can best be positioned for maximum coverage.

  • Restore MAC OS X after removing its partition from windows?

I created a new bootcamp partition on my macbook air and installed windows 7. Then I realised I had little use for the MAC OS partition and, from windows, formatted that drive to get the extra space,so my MB had 2 particions:
    - C drive (Bootcamp)
    - D drive (labelled just "new drive").
Now I would like to restore the Mac OS partition on the D drive, but I do not want to erase Bootcamp. However if I restart the computer pressing the C key and with the USB reinstall drive in, the only drive where I can apparently install mac os is bootcamp.
I have not advance after that step since I do not want to erase bootcamp. Any clues as to how to proceed here?
    thanks!

You can format "D:" again to HFS from OS X Lion or DVD
You do not want to use WinClone to the same hard drive, terrible.
You can install OS X to external drive - partition the drive for OS X, WinClone perhaps or CampTune (also makes backup restore images) - and for TimeMachine.
CampTune will also 'redistribute' space between HFS and NTFS partitions.
Their "Pro" Suite can convert HFS <=> NTFS without loss of data - of course it would be foolish to not have backups.

  • Lost Space(available) After Removing Bootcamp Partition

While i tried to remove my windows partition it came up with an error.. Now i have a HDD thats divided.. I hope u guys can help!

The simplest option is using a Time Machine. Since you have FV2, you may want to temporarily turn it off for this exercise - OS X Yosemite: Turn off FileVault encryption.
    1. Backup using TM - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
    2. Run Internet Recovery and erase your internal drive - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
    3. Restore - OS X Yosemite: Recover your entire system
If you do not have an external disk large enough for your backup or TM set up, then using Terminal commands is the more complicated option.

  • Imaging slow after removing IPX

We are running Zenworks 6.5. We basically use the imaging piece and NAL. We
removed IPX from this server this morning and now Imaging is moving at a
crawl. I'm not sure if this is related as I thought imaging was using IP.
Any ideas on what I can look at to troubleshoot this? I am making sure the
duplex settings on the switch are not mis-matched with the settings on the
NIC, but if that was the problem we should have seen this issue before
today. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Disregard..... Duplex settings were splooged....all is well now.

  • DVD-R and CD-R Burn Speeds Slow after Tiger

Hi, I just installed Tiger a few weeks ago and noticed that when I am in the finder and record or burn a CD-R, it does so at 8X max, and a DVD-R data disc burns at 1X only, instead of the 2X its supposed to do it. Any help is welcomed.
Also having problems when inserting a DVD-R, it no longer askes what to open (IDVD, finder, DiskUtility) even if I never checked the always do this, it automatically opens IDVD everytime and doesnt let me open it in the finder. The solution for this is that I have to place the IDVD application on a External Harddrive and then insert the disk and I get the dialog box again, but once I pass the application back to the applications folder it always defaults into opening that.

Your burning speed isn't determined by your operating system, it's determined by your SuperDrive. So if you have an 8X max for CD-R and 1X for a DVD-R that's what you're stuck with.
You can however reflash your firmware to trick your drive into ripping and burning a little faster. Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll e-mail you the info on how to do it. It's been a while, so I have to look up the file again. Also, be sure that's the SuperDrive you have because the new firmware is drive specific!

  • My MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) is too slow after installing Yosemite version 10.10.1. All programs take for ever to load especially Safari and even chrome. I regret upgrading to yosemite, it was all fine with Maverick. Any suggestions ? ThankYou

My MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) is too slow after installing Yosemite version 10.10.1. All programs take for ever to load especially Safari and even chrome. I regret upgrading to yosemite, it was all fine with Maverick. Any suggestions ? ThankYou

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Slow reboot after deleting bootcamp partition

    Hello,
I was just told by a tech store that my bootcamp partition was slowing down my computer incredibly. I no longer need this partition so I went into Disk Utility, clicked the partition, and deleted it. I also had my RAM updated from 4GB to 8GB. I have an Early 2011 Macbook Pro, operating on Yosemite.
The only question I have is, when I rebooted my computer for the first time after deleting the partition, the restarting process took much longer than normal. Without the bootcamp startup, I figured the startup time would be less, when in reality, it was longer. Is there something I missed while deleting my partition, and is there a way to fix this and speed up the reboot time? If not, will this slow reboot be a one time issue?
    Any comments would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Rachel

There is a hidden Recovery HD between the OS X and the deleted BC partition, which you can verify using
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
    in OSX Terminal.
BCA does a better job by also relocating the Recovery HD appropriately and giving you a contiguous partition.
The only other method is to subsume Recovery HD in OS X partition and then re-install OS X which will rebuild Recovery HD. This does not modify any of you files, but just the OS.
You will also need to clean the Hybrid MBR which is now dangling and inappropriate for your case.

  • Youtube loads slow after Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502 update

youtube loads slow after Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502 update, never had this problem before. the browser i am using is google chrome. everything is updated. i have a download speed monitor on, it shows the youtube videos downloads 200kb/s regardless the resolution and my internet is 1500kb/s. i thought it might be the monitor but i turn it off the videos still loads very slow. i dont know what to do.

We apologize for the inconvenience.  We're aware of the issue, and working diligently to get it resolved.
The issue appears to be limited to older Flash 8/ActionScript 2 content.  If you have access to the ActionScript source, there are a couple workarounds here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4841531#4841531#4841531.

everything is slower after maverick what can I do to speed things up?

Boot-up slow, NetFlix streaming erratic, wifi will not automatically connect after putting computer in sleep mode, Studio One 2 glitches after running for a while. None of these problems existed until I upgraded to Mavericks.
