  • Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Forms/Reports 10g

    hi,
I have a problem while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g to Oracle Database10g Express Edition.I have configured through the net configuration assistant and it shows the test is also successful. But while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g, an error is being displayed saying that the TNS could not resolve service name(ORA - 012154). I am able to connect to my database server normally. I got a doubt now regarding Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Oracle Developer Suite 10g. Can I use Oracle Database10g Express Edition as backend for Forms/Reports 10g in a stand alone machine.
Can anyone please give me a solution regarding my issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    RAKESH

12154 means that the TNSNAMES.ora that reports is using does not understand what the '@XE' means.
Check that you do not have several different TNSNAMES.ora files - there are probably several, and the one you are using probably does not point to XE. This is the most common cause I've seen.

  • Form & reports 10g VS Form & reports 6 ???

    Hi All,
We have customers that running Form & reports 10g application and they (must) use IAS 10g for deployment.
But now they are considering to downgrade to Form & Reports 6 (client-server). So they put the Form & Reports to a folder on a server and map the folder to the clients.
Actually what are the benefits of running Form and Reports 10g on IAS and Browser compared to running Form & Reports 6 on client server mode ?
    Thank you very much,
    xto

    Hi Xto,
If you use Forms 10g in web mode, thin clinets can be used and hardware cost can be reduced. Only you need to have good application server.
And you can access the application from browser and no need of installation/setup in client machiens. so maintanance cost also can be reduced.
These are some of benefits while running in web mode.

  • Only forms&reports 10g

can I find an installer for forms&reports 10g only? I allready have JDeveloper and AS
And is it compatible with a 9i database?
    thanks a lot!

Forms 10g against a 9i database is no problem.
The Forms & Report-Only edition can be found in the OTN (look for downloads) or in the metalink.oracle.com, if it isn't found in the OTN.
Update: I can't find the Forms&Reports-Only-Version on OTN. Check the metalink-link and search there

  • Oracle Portal, Application Express, Oracle Forms/Reports 10g - which one?

    Hi,
I have Oracle 10g database and Application Express installed on one linux box.
second linux box has Oracle HTTP server running from where i call the htmldb pages.
3rd linux box has Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 installed along with SSO, Portal 10.1.4 , Forms Server etc.
Now, i see there are 3 ways i can develop web applications
    1. using Application Express and http server which is very basic and simple.
    2. using Oracle Forms/Reports 10g and forms/reports server
    3. Oracle Portal 10.1.4 in Application Server 10.1.2
Can someone guide me, which one of the above 3 is worth sticking on forever for developing web applications. i am really not sure which one of the above is best for Web developement in terms of long term planning. and i believe all 3 of the above can be integrated with Oracle SSO for authentication.
Can someone guide me please to select one of the above and can you explain me why for my better understanding of the different tools?
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    Hi Philip.
If you already have Oracle Portal, I think that portal is the best solution.
Portal can be integrated with others applications using SSO.
Oracle portal have a lot of features that help you to develop web applications.
If portal does not offer what you want, you can develop your own portlets using java or plsql.
Take a look at the default home page of oracle portal.
Look better the features that portal offer to you.

  • How to configure Oracle forms/reports 10g to Oracle Database 10g

    Dear All,
I have downloaded oracle Developer Suite 10g for microsoft Windows (CD1/CD2) from edelivery.oracle.com.
I have also downloaded Oracle 10g xe edition from oracle.com.
Both above software are on the same machine.
Now, I have creaated new database, created few tablespaces, tables, indexes, functions etc on it. SID_NAME=xe.
I want to configure both the software(connect them) so that i can generate some reports, create forms and applications(on the same machine not on network).
    How do i do that?
    Best Regards,

did you set tns_admin? do you know what it's for?
don't edit tnsnames.ora manually if you can help it.
you have 2 tnsnames.ora. one is from the xe install. the other is from the developer suite install.
what does the one for your developer suite look like?
if you used the the network config assistant in a straightforward way, then it should end up with an entry similar to what you have in your tnsnames.ora from your xe installation.
the netconfig assistant has a TEST step in it. did you try that? you might need to change the username/password when you test it.
the main thing here is the tnsnames.ora. the way it will be located is in a particular order. it will check in this order, more or less
    1. in current working directory
    2. TNS_ADMIN defined by the session
    3. TNS_ADMIN defined as a global environment (in control panel)
    4. TNS_ADMIN defined in registry
    5. default location (network\admin directory).
so if your developer says it can't resolve the name, then it means it is not defined in the tnsnames.ora it used. you need to determine which tnsnames.ora file it's using, and is it configured correctly.
if you did not set tns_admin, check your E:\DevSuiteHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
this is the one developer will use by default.
it should have an entry similar to the one from your xe install e.g.
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oraclelaptop.yic.edu.sa)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
then when you run forms/reports, you should connect as user/password@xe

  • Error when trying to update Forms & Reports 10g from 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.2

    Hi,
I have successfully installed Oracle Application Server 10g Forms & Reports Services 10.1.2.0.2, however when I try to apply the patchset 10.1.2.2 to the only Oracle HOME on the server (FRHOME_1), I receive the following error message:
*"Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Windows NT, Windows 2000 available for installation in this staging area"*
I have installed the above on a Windows Server 2008 system with no problems (using compatibility mode), however I cannot seem to be able to apply the patchset - I can bring up the Oracle Universal Installer, but as soon as I try to patch my Oracle home receive the above error message.
Has anyone encountered this/a similar problem before?
    Many thanks,
    Chris

I think this could be a problem of your media, is it a CD or you copied the contents into the harddrive? Check that the size of the CD it's ok, is reable or if it's copied in hard drive, check that the size is the appropieated and all the files are accesible to your user.
    Greetings.

  • Does anyone have Forms & Reports 10G working properly on Macs?!

In our work enviroment we have about a third of our company working on Macs - currently we have client server forms and reports 6 running on a citrix server for the Mac users. I am in the process of upgrading our systems to 10G (10.1.2) in the hope of being able to get rid of the citrix servers and have everyone running straight through a browser. However looking at the supported versions:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/as_certification_r2_101202.html#BABDECDG
it seems that only Safari 1.2 is supported on Macs. Now I find it very difficult to believe that many/any working enviroments are running Safari 1.2 as it is updated via security updates OS updates etc and they are currently upto 2.0.3. As a result within our company Firefox is the browser we use as we have direct control over updates. Testing through firefox 1.5 is giving me font issues and you cannot click into a specific record on a multi-row block, having problems trying to get reports running, logging on etc. I would like to know whether anyone is running forms and reports 10G on Macs in a production enviroment and what browser / java versions are used and does everything work as it should. Thankyou

Hi, perhaps I haven't been clear enough yet I'm getting the same errors that I have listed twice thus far on safari! - and here is why we don't use safari
"As the standard Mac desktop here is set up as a Windows peer in what is technically a "Windows-only" environment, we get some issues where some parts of OS X doesn't play nice with the infrastructure. The way our build is tailored, most of our users don't see the integration "joins" and their Macs operate as they'd expect, which is how we like it too.
That doesn't mean we don't get occasional problems with OS updates and our infrastructure. For example... Apple will often put a bunch of security patches, application fixes and system revisions into their Software Updates.
On a standalone system, or "vanilla" networked Macs, this is great, as you get a bunch of timely updates in one easy-to-install bundle. Unfortunately, our Mac OS X build is NOT a standard one and some parts of Apple's updates can cause us problems.
Safari, while being the best browser experience on the Macintosh for most people, suffers a lot from our environment's strictures. You may know that Safari was already drawing heat from end users over its apparent lack of support for some websites (particularly personal banking), so the switch to Firefox was happening anyway. We pushed it on once we got hit with the most recent problems with Safari and proxy authentication. When we stripped away our general blind fanaticism for Apple-made software, we realised that the Volvo alternative (Firefox) was actually a more solid performer.
Finally, as the browser is a pretty important piece of software for us (aside from browsing it's a method of deploying apps), we think it makes good sense to decouple it from the OS. With Safari we don't have the same control over versioning as we do with Firefox, while Firefox has most of the Safari features that our 10.3 userbase can access."
So can anyone help with the specific errors I listed above thanks.

  • How to run a report to a file ascii in forms/report 10G

We have an application in form an report 6i and we are going to translate it in 10G dev suite.
We have a problem with any forms modules which run report to file ascii with particular format.
After these files are send to printer o machine with host comand (we use the webutil for the host comand).
How can we run tese reports to file ascii ?

    Hi,
if you print a Reports to the file system then this happens on the server. Your options are
    a) Run the Reports with destype=cache and have the user printing it from the Browser
    b) Print the Reports to the file system as before and make the directory accessible on the Web so that you can call the file using web.show_document()
    c) You use Run_Report_Object() and print the reports to a network printer next to the user
    d) check otn.oracle.com/products/forms for orarrp (an unsupported utility but working)

    Hi folks:
Does anybody knows which are the execute files of 10g to run forms and reports?
i.e. on 6i, we use to have ifrun60.exe tu run the forms module.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
look for f90web or if90web (os dependent). This has changed for 10.1.2 where the version number is taken out of the name and replaced with "frm"

    Michel,
Question 1 - the file will no longer be useable with Reports 10g - you will loose everything.
Question 2 - No, newer versions of Oracle Forms and Reports are not backward compatible with older versions.
Question 3 - No, see answer to question 2.

  • Migrating 6i forms / reports to 10g (Urgent)

    Hi,
We have 6i versions of forms and reports running in a client/server environment, and are planning to upgrade them to 10g. I need to give an estimate to my manager on the effort involved in migrating the existing objects to 10g.
    To provide an estimate:
    1. Is installing Oracle Forms 10g (10.1.2) sufficient to convert and test my existing forms?
    2. Is installing Oracle Reports 10g (10.1.2) sufficient to convert and test my existing reports?
Or, do I also need Oracle Application Server 10g installed to go with the above?
My intention is to initially acquire the Forms/Reports 10g tools to see how much work is involved (without having Oracle AS in place). Is this possible?
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    yes
    2. Is installing Oracle Reports 10g (10.1.2) sufficient to convert and test my existing reports?
    it's enough compiler on 10.1.2
Or, do I also need Oracle Application Server 10g installed to go with the above?
you don't need oas, or from oas 10, it's need only forms and report server,no infrastruc

  • Forms/Reports 6i to 10g migration process

    Hello !
I will start a process in order to migrate our currently Forms/Reports 6i application to Oracle DS 10g (Forms/Reports 10g). What I need to know in order to begin this process.
For example: What Oracle Application Server my customers needs to buy ? and about licenses that they need to have ?
Can someone give me a initial direction ?
    Tank you

I would recommend using 10g Release 2 which is version 10.1.2.
You will need Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2 for development and application maintenance needs. This distribution includes a light weight http listener used for testing applications while being developed. This light weight listener is not supported for multi-user access or production deployment.
You will need Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 for deployment. If you only plan to use Forms and Reports and do not need additional security features or Identity Management (SSO, OID, etc), you can use the Forms/Reports Services distribution which is smaller than the complete Application Server installation. Refer to the following for more information:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10g/FormsReportsServicesInstallation.htm
This document refers to version 9.0.4 but mostly still applies to 10.1.2.
Do not attempt to use versions newer than 10.1.2 as they do NOT support Forms or Reports.
Additional Forms upgrade information can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html

    Hi,
You can find a similar discussion at this link :-
    start AS automatically
You can also get a good ideas from these two Metalink Notes :-
    1. Note:223285.1 :- Shell scripts to start and stop IAS 9.0.2.2 (Infrastructure - Middle tier) on Unix
    2. Note:200475.1 :- 9iAS Release 2 (9.0.2) Start/Stop Instructions on Unix
The notes are basically for IAS 9.0.2., but can be easily customized for other IAS versions.
