I have PowerBook G4, running 10.5.8. Went to upgrade and says OS too old. I went back to older version of foxfire. Now I have a circle with a line through it and when I try to open it I get,You cannot open the application “Firefox” because it is not supported on this architecture. Thanks for the help.
Firefox 3.6.x is the last available from Mozilla for PPC Macs. <br />

For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4+ versions, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com -
I just want to download Firefox 3.6 again
I downloaded Firefox 4 onto my PowerPC G4, 1.67GHz running Mac OSX 10.5.6. When I try to open it I get error message You cannot open the application “Firefox” because it is not supported on this architecture.Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

I have a big crossbar mark over my FF4 icon after I've installed and replaced FF3. When I try to open the software, I get "You can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture." What's up with that?

I just got a notice to update my firefox to 4.0 and when I downloaded the new software it indicated: that I can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture. Any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix it?

iMac G5 with PowerPC G5 (3.0). Is this able to support 4.0? Can I go back and run 3.6?
Please consult the Firefox 4 [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/system-requirements.html system requirements].
If you cannot use Firefox 4 on your computer, you can download Firefox 3.6 from [http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html here] . -
The above is my question
Sorry, Firefox 4+ versions don't support PPC architecture.
For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4 / 5 / 6, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

Or use Firefox 3.6.20: <br />

I recently upgraded my MacBook from Moutain Lion to Maverick. After upgrading I can not open the iPhoto.Whenever I try to open I get the message --You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.Tell me how to solve the problem?
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always. -
unable to launch firefox after I upgraded firefox
I see you are using a PPC Mac with OSX 10.5.8.
Either you can use the last release from Mozilla worked on PPC which is 3.6.*.
The current 3.6.22 is at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or use a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html
As of Firefox 4.0 and newer a '''Intel''' Mac and OSX 10.5+ is required. -
I have been using iMovie successfully and have several movies saved, but now iMovie will not load. I have OS 10.5.8 and I don't know what to do. Are there any suggestions? I'm not even familiar with the term "architecture" or why it would be different than it was.
iLife '06 is the newest version that includes iMovie that a G4 will run. Any newer version of iMovie as included with iLife, will not run on a G4.

You cannot open the application "Xcode" because it is not supported on this architecture.
I'm currently trying to understand why XCode 4.3.3 gives me this message when download has completed. I have a MacBook Pro 10.5.8 OS X. Any help would be appreciated WWnewbee
As noted, your OS is not compatible, sorry - see Xcode Versions ~ iOS - As of 9.19.12.

I just downloaded the new Mavericks operating sytem on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 17" 2.53GHz, Intel Core I5 machine. My IPhoto is no longer working at all, I'm getting an error message that says - "You Can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac". I also loaded Mavericks onto my other MacBook Pro 17", mid 2009 model and everything works fine. I would think that the newer Mac would easily work with IPhoto. Also, when I try to download from the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID and Password, I enter it, and then the little spinning color wheel just spins forever, with nothing ever happening. I tried downloading the IPhoto Upgrade but it never actually downloads, HELP!!!
What version of iPhoto do you have installed? Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5. It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.
I just updated iPhoto and received the attached message when I try to open iPhoto. "You can’t open the application “iPhoto” because it is not supported on this type of Mac" Cannot figure out how to resolve this.
If you are not running Mavericks, then you cannot use the iPhoto download from the App Store. If your are running Mavericks, then you did not download and install the current version of iPhoto from the App Store.

You can't open the application...it is not supported on this architecture
Returning Mac user here. I am trying to setup some shared games on my Mac mini, 1.25Ghz G4, 1Gb RAM machine and have run into something very puzzling. I am loading some free open-source games under my account and the applications will launch and open just fine. Well, when I attempt to launch that same game(s) under another account it gives me a "You can't open the application <application name> because it is not supported on this architecture". I initially setup this second user account as a a standard but during my troubleshooting steps I have allowed it full Admin rights with the same end result.
Some other things I've tried:
1. Get Info on the applciation(s) and granted everyone (and even the second user account) Read & Write permission.
I scoured Google and these forums and haven't been coming up with much of anything! Can anyone help?Try creating a new test account, give it admin rights, but make no other changes to it. Log in to that account and see if it can run the game. This will eliminate the possiblity that there is something causing a problem within your second account. You might also uninstall one of the games, and reinstall from your new admin account and see if it, and the other accounts, can use that game.
