Loaded Ver 4.0, Firefox still recognizing old 3.6.14, and two tabs...STILL open when I launch..starting to hate!

For like two months, since the rd ver 4.0 has been offer when I startup firefox, I cannot stop it from launching "you have 3.6.1.4, you should upgrade..blah blah blah. I finally upgrade, see the 4.0 page for one session, ther is no link to get away from it, then I close it, reopen, and wallah,"you have 3.6.1.4, you should upgrade..blah blah blah. And still the two freakin tabs. All I want is the google tab only and "4ever" I need this to stop or Im going back to crappy IE or bing...i dunno..................................blah!

Practically every other site works perfectly fine. I did not change any settings or download any new addons prior to this problem, it just started happening. I have done everything I can find in the forums; resetting firefox, clearing cache and cookies, making network settings use no proxy, reinstalling, and today I uninstalled Firefox, updated and scanned my computer with all 3 software I use (AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot), found no issues, restarted my computer, and reinstalled a freshly downloaded Firefox setup without importing any settings or doing anything other than a totally clean install, and still nothing. Chrome and IE still are able to access every site perfectly fine. I have no idea what the issue is or how to fix it, as I've tried everything I know and could research.

Firefox 12 is very slow to load pages and if two tabs are opening it lags. I've tried everything (e.g virus, defrag, I've created a new profile in "run", etc). I've had my router/line etc all checked and after 2 weeks of cleaning/testing etc its all pointing to Firefox as the problem. Please help as it's driving me nuts.

I have the exact same problem.
Not only does it load pages very slowly, sometimes the page will stop for a good 45 seconds and stop loading, only to finish it much later.
Something is wrong with Firefox 12, it shouldn't be this slow.
How is that each version is progressively worse than the one before it?.
Stop releasing so many versions Mozilla, release one that works and build from there.

I have a problem closing tabs in Firefox v3.6.13. The first tab on the left hand side (ie the page that opens when I launch Firefox) won't close when I click on the red x.

I can't close the left hand tab except by exiting firefox. When i launch firefox the original tab stays open when I click on the red x, even if I have other tabs open.
i can alter the website displayed on the left hand tab but it still won't close and leave other more recent tabs open.

Sorry to be a while getting back! Tried all of that with no sucess so this AM, bit the bullet and deleted the FF folder from programs and downloaded and installed FF 10.01. Still was plagued with the same problem. Went into the appdata folder and there were two sessionstore.js files. Deleted them both, restarted the browser and no compatibility check for add-ons was done at start up and the extra tab for Welcome to FF was no longer opening Everything seems to be working as it should and I did not loose any of my settings.. Thank you for trying to help and I hope my solution helps anyone else who might experience this in the future. Here's hoping the next update goes smoother!

Can you log on to the email account via webmail in a web browser, view the email and delete it from there if necessary.

When launching Firefox(5.0) there are always two TABS that open, one with "What's new in Firefox" and other my homepage. Can't it be adjusted to open only one TAB (Homepage) and not the other one?

When ever I start I have 2 tabs that open one to my start page the other to a funeral directory. How do I stop the funeral site from opening up when I start firefox?

Firefox lets you set multiple tabs to open when you start up or click the Home button. Not sure how that other one got on there, but you can remove it.

The first thing to try if a setting does not "keep" is a PRAM reset.

Change the setting to what you want, then PRAM reset on restart:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

How do you stop Firefox from suddenly getting an error message saying tabs are still open when opening the browser??

We have a MAC OS X 10.6.8 and all of the sudden when we close out of Mozilla (both by using the red x and also using "quit") the next time we open Mozilla it has a "well this is embarrassing" Error screen and asks us if we want to re-open our last session. Then it will have whatever email, webpage, fb page, etc that we were on and we can either close it or reopen it.
This started last week, we have had the computer 2 years and have never had this problem before. I tried re-starting Mozilla and after a few hours it started doing it again.

When I start on a .xps file and Open with. . . and choose the Microsoft XPS file viewer, Firefox still opens and I get nowhere.

When I double-click on the file, Firefox opens, too.
Firefox wants me to save the file or browse. If I browse to the Microsoft XPS viewer (the recommended option) and select it, then a new copy of firefox opens and wants me to save or browse. Deja vu.

I read this link and did not see how it applied. The xps viewer is not on the list of file types in Firefox. But why does Firefox open at all? Firefox is not open when I double-click on the file. The .xps files are associated with the Microsoft xps viewer in the file associations.
