Will upgrading elements to a newqer version solve the problem?

NEF's for the D7100 should work with the latest version PSE13

  • Problem with importing scanned photos into iPhoto

I have an Epson scanner that scans photos into the JPEG format. However, when I try to import these photos into iPhoto I am told that the file format is incompatible with iPhoto. This is odd since photos in iPhoto ARE in JPEG format.
    Can anybody help?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Sir Leicester

Did you scan these photos as grayscale b/w photos? If so that's the reason. iPhoto does not support the grayscale mode when it has the *+Dot Gain 20%+* profile added to it and that's what scanners use.
Rescan all b/w images as color and they will be accepted by iPhoto. Or you can download the Automator workflow application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile, from Toad's Cellar and drop the files onto the application. This will batch convert them to jpegs in the RGB mode with the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.

  • Scan photos into PSE 9

I am quite and amateur to PSE9 and want to successfully scan photos into PSE for editing.  Anyone have a step by step resource I should follow?  Thanks.
    Rcre

I have an iMac with OS 10.6.6 and a Canon Pixma MP970. I tried that process of moving the Twain plugin over. The scanner did show up in the File>import menu, but every time I chose the MP970 PSE9 would crash. I tried choosing MP970 Series Network and it would not recognize the scanner. Tried quitting and restarting PSE9, then tried restarting the computer. Same results. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Best format for importing scanned photos into FCP in HDV?

    Hi,
I'm importing a lot of scanned photos into FCP, for an HDV project. I will be zooming into these images, panning, and so on.
What is the consensus on the best format to use? I was thinking TIFF but then reading about PNG I am thinking this is perhaps better.
I am dealing with large (up to 1200 dpi) image files, so size is an issue.
    Many thanks for your thoughts.

Right, use a PSD with photos on different layers, Import the one document into FCP, each photo is on a different layer in FCP and you can zoom in as you wish by using key frames, once you set all your photos (Layers) the way you want all the same or different etc... you copy and paste them into the time line. I do this all the time and add transitions or effects. works well even with company logos off of a web site. You can zoom in all you want. dude
    from a link you provided
    PSD
Increasingly then image editability is becoming important. The obvious way of maintaining maximum information and maximum editability is to stick with the native application-specific format. Of course it was to avoid this go-it-alone anarchy that file format standards had to be developed in the first place, but the situation with bitmap images is quite special. Currently the vast majority of designers are working on their images in Photoshop and then exporting them to TIFF to use in their DTP application. Why not just cut out the middleman and support the industry standard Photoshop’s PSD format directly?
After all the format is well known. The core format PSD 3.0 format is built on a short header specifying the image size and colour channels and then three information sections called the Colour Mode Data Block, Image Resources Block and Layer and Mask Information Block defining features such as duotone settings, channels and paths and layer opacity and blend mode respectively. After that comes the image data. Naturally the PSD format can support all the advanced features we’ve already looked at such as duotones, clipping paths and channels but it also offers one feature that no other file format does. While every other format must be flattened on export, PSD is the only format that supports layers. Any program that supports PSDs directly can then leverage this layer information as Adobe ImageReady and Deneba Canvas show. Currently the DTP support is fairly basic but the possibility of changing image blend modes or editing layer text or tweaking adjustment layers depending on the actual spread in which the image appears is creatively mouthwatering.

  • Cannot scan photos into catalog

I have an HP printer, 6300 series, that has been able to scan photos into my catalog up until the last time I used it.  I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and it worked great.  Tonight I went to scan in some photos for a graduation invite and it will not import them.  It says they are already in the catalog.  They're not.  Obviously there is a communication problem.  Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this or lead me in the right direction as to who can help me with this?   Windows updates are current.  Thank you, I use pse 7 and it has worked fine in the past.  Thank you.

    Hi Garry,
Thanks for your response.  I did check the steps you sent below and yes,
it's a 32.8BA file.  However, when I open up Twain 32 properties under scan
results (from the Import-Export) it comes up with:  Trend micro security has
checked this file for computer viruses and other security threats.  The
results appear below and it lists File Name:  Twain 32.8BA  Scan results No
incidents detected.  I checked the trend micro and it's currently off so I'm
confused with this.  I get nervous when getting into the nitty gritty of the
    computer.
I did find the scans I tried to bring into my catalog buried deep in some
files I never knew existed.  In further review of forums I found somebody
suggested to bring the photos in under card reader and choose my printer
from the drop down menu.  I tried it and it worked bringing them into the
catalog.  BUT, why can't I get it to work the proper way?  Is the trend
micro blocking it?  This is certainly not my expertise, I appreciate your
    patience.  Thanks.

  • Importing existing folders and sub folders of photos into photoshop organiser 9

I have over 10,000 photos nicely organised in folders and sub folders in Bridge CS3 and want to migrate over to photoshop elements and use their organiser so I have everything in one place. However, when I try to import the photos, it brings them in as individual photos and not in their folders. It seems like I need to recreate a load of albums and then drag and drop the photos into them. I don't have time to recreate hundreds of album names to replicate my system as it is. Is there any way round this or should I be looking at a different system altogether?
Thank you for any advice on this.

... should I be looking at a different system altogether?
If your entire organizational goals are to continue to use your "nicely organised" folders, then why bother with the PSE Organizer in the first place? You have extra work (must import the photos) and more limitations (must do all photo management inside of the PSE Organizer), and its hard to see any benefit from using the PSE Organizer. You won't achieve any "better organization" than what you have now.
If your goals are to use PSE tools to organize (tags, captions notes), in addition to (or as a replacement for) your folder organization, then the PSE Organizer can be very useful.

  • Batch scan photos into bridge

    Hi,
Hope I can find a solution to this puzzle. I was given an envelope containing several pages containing black and white proof photos of my friend's mother's wedding. The photos are approximately 1 x 1.5 inches in size.
I want to scan them into Bridge so I can fix any blemishes (ie, watermarks/dust, etc) and then compile these photos into a website so they can be viewed.
I also want to save each photo individually so my friend may arrange to print copies at a photo booth.
I was thinking along the lines of making a cardboard mask to block out half of the photos hoping that my scanner may scan the photos individually (it has that capability). But I then thought that there may be some very talented people in this forum that may have some suggestions.
Any suggestions on how I can achieve this and maybe recommend the scan settings (dpi, etc) would be gratefully accepted.
    Thanking anyone in advance.
    Pixy1964

Bridge is not more then a file browser, very useful but not suitable for the task you have in mind.
You can use Photoshop for that. I would choose to use a high resolution for the scan to gain as much data as needed from the small contact sheet photo's.
For instance if you need the original to show on a website usually around 75ppi the quality is reasonable on most screens (although 96 ppi is a more common used setting)
If you scan your original with the quality set to 300 ppi this would mean resizing without recalculating the resolution (also called interpolation) each image from appr.1 x 1,5 inch to appr. 4 by 6 inch would result in a photo with 75 dpi.
If you choose 600 ppi as scan setting quality the same photo's at about 75 dpi would result in about 8 x 12 inch.
So you can do the math your self. Starting with small originals you have to use a good scanner set to a high quality to have more options for resizing and retouching.
However this can be a hard task because usually lots of dust in both film and glass from producing contact sheet is hardly visible on the sheet itself but will be magnified after resizing…
If you scan one sheet in PS or using the scan application from the scanner and open it in PS then go the menu File / Automate / Crop and straighten photo's.
This usually makes a great job of cropping the images from the sheet in separate photos, use a batch  process (you can create actions your self in the action panel) to save them or to apply the filter dust and scratches (not always suitable but sometimes it can be useful, just try)
Then use Bridge to sort, rename, add metadata etc.

  • Importing photos into Elements

My saved photos on my pc are not visible when I attempt to import into Elements.  Why?

So right after posting the question, I decided to try to first import into the file system and then import from the file system, and that worked. But its a pain because it changes my workflow.
A possible workaround: You could use Windows Live Photo Gallery to download into your folders; the WLPG downloader is pretty good (WLPG is the version you download from Microsoft, not the one built in to Vista).  Then you could use the Organizer's File > Watch Folder feature to automatically import new photos that get added to your folders by the downloader.
Do you use lightroom? Do you recommend it?
I don't use Lightroom, but it has a very good reputation.  I know some other posters here use it.

  • Import 6000 photos into Elements 11 organizer

I have a file with numerous subfiles that I want to mass import into Elements 11 organizer.  How do I do it?  I can see how to import photos within the files, but that would take forever to highlight all photos and import.  There must be a better way.

To get all photos in a folder with all its subfolders, simply use the menu 'Get photos and videos', 'from files or folders'. In the dialog which opens, check 'include subfolders' and 'Copy files at import'.

  • Can I load songs and photos into an Ipod Nano I have purchased as a gift?

I have purchased an Ipod Nano 2GB as a gift for my 9 year old granddaughter for Xmas.
Before sending it I'd like to load some songs & photos on it, from my own Ipod Library and computer.
I'm concerned that doing this from my computer will only complicate things when they receive the Ipod and then install it on their own computer. The family is not real computer literate and the simpler the better.
What advice does anyone have - best to leave the new Ipod untouched and empty and have the initial install with Itunes/Apple on the computer they will be using? (Windows XP as well)
    Thanks very much!

Personally I think it would be best to leave it. To use an iPod on multiple computers it has to be set to manual update. If your granddaughter wanted to update her iPod automatically (which is the simplest way) whatever you put on would get erased as the songs and pictures wouldn't be on her computer. Why not send along an iTunes gift certificate with it so she can buy some songs she'd like? Also, point the family to this web page, there's lots of useful information for new users here: iPod Nano Fast Start: New User's Guide to iPod Nano

When I scan multiple photos and go to "images,"  "Divide Scanned Photos" is not highlighted and won't work. It worked for me a few days ago, so I must be doing something wrong. How can I correct this problem? Thanks.

  • Trouble importing photos into Elements 8 under Windows 7

Elements 8 is rejecting jpeg photos I am trying to import from SD card or DVD. The photos were taken with different cameras, and ones I've imported from successfully before. It labels the files as "corrupted", or "organizer doesn't recognize this file format" or other strange messages. I've successfully  imported these files into Picassa, and Windows explorer - they are plain jpegs.

So right after posting the question, I decided to try to first import into the file system and then import from the file system, and that worked. But its a pain because it changes my workflow.

  • Saving scanned photos into iPhoto

We've just bought a Canon Pixma MP620 and I want to save the photos directly into iPhoto. Is there anyway to do this? So far I've tried dragging and dropping into iPhoto (with it open) and it hasn't worked. Nor could I get iPhoto to import into its library.

I think its down to the software that came with the printer. I use a HP Photosmart 2575 and one of the options I had to set up was scan 'jpeg to iPhoto'. This does what it says, I have used it before but I have just tried it again and after the scan it opened iPhoto and imported the jpeg. Its iLife 08 I use not sure which version of iPhoto comes with that.
I would have a look at the set up of your scanning software, you just may find an option or an option you can add. I assume if you have just bought it the printer is new, why not call the Canon help line.
    regards

  • Importing scanned photos into IPhoto

I scanned a lot of old black and white photos and they are sitting in finder. I am trying to import them into IPhoto and they can't. It says that it is an unreadable file and could not be formatted because it is an unrecognized format. What am I do wrong????

iPhoto only works with RGB photos - sRGB is the best
you can use Preview to change the color profile or search Old Toad's posts for a link to his automator script to do them in batches
