Loading CD's onto iPod

I just bought a new iPod classic, and have spent much of the weekend (too much really!) loading my vast CD collection onto it.
I have now noticed that with some CD's - compilation type ones such as soundtracks (but not all) it has either listed the tracks out of order, or even split them and created 2 CD files. They both have the same name but some tracks are on one (out of order) and some on another.
I can't work out how to fix this up. I even deleted one CD (thinking I'd confused it when I was playing around with the listed order function) and re loadedit, but the same thing happened again!
i have now tried changing the settings and cancelled the option to manage my music automatically but the problem is still occurring.
Has anyone else had this problem? any suggestions on how to fix it?

Hi. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
When iTunes imports a CD it offers you the information if finds on the CDDB database which is not always completely accurate or consistent. Often US & UK (for example) releases of the same album have different track orderings and it's possible that you accepted the suggested order without noticing such errors.
To make sure that an album is treated as one unit in iTunes it should have the same values for *Album Title*, *Album Artist*, *No. of Discs* and *Part of a Compilation* for all tracks from the album. The iPod is a little more picky being case-sensitive, unlike iTunes, and to all intents it ignores the Album Artist field. Marking compilations as such helps here however this flag sometimes set on non-compilation albums when guest artists are listed. For an album that has some tracks which feature guest artists, you can either change the Sort Artist field of affected tracks to Album Aritst or move the guest into. into the track name, e.g. append (Feat. Guest) and change Artist to Album Artist. Multi-disc albums should have the correct values for Disc X of Y for each track and then have identical album titles, rather than Album Disc 1, Album Disc 2 etc.
You can use the *Get info* feature to amend any details. Either one track at a time or by selecting one or more tracks using shift & control. Use CTRL-I (Option-I on Macs) to bring up the info dialog box. For those albums whose track order appears off you should listen to the tracks to make sure you have the correct titles and then amend the title or track numbers accordingly.
Unless you've a good reason to manage the iPod manually you would be better off putting your iPod in auto-sync mode before updating the libray as it will then reflect all your updates to your iPod with the least amount of effort.

  • Loading cd collection onto ipod classic 80g

ihave 700cds to load onto ipod classic 80G via itunes but my computer only has room for approx250.Can i delete those 250 from my itunes folder and start again?how do i load them all?

To load them all you would have to buy an external hard drive to move some other things over from your computer or just have the music files on the hard drive. If you can only have 250 of them then here is what to try.
Import the first 250, then have the ipod on manually manage music etc... Drag and drop all the 250 CDs content to the iPod.
After done copying delete the files for the first 250 and then put the next set on and repeat copying them to the ipod, repeat this until all 700 CDs are on iPod.

  • Installed- and fixed- iTunes 7.6 and now can't load 100 items onto iPod

    Hi,
I just got done fixing my compatability issue with iTunes 7.6 (error -2096) and when I tried to update my iPod it says that 100 items were not copied to my iPod because it (or my computer, I'm not exactly sure) are not authorized to play them. Can anybody help me with this? I'm getting very frustrated with iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Katherine

I found a fix to get the computer to play the music, but I haven't found a fix to get the ipod to sync.
To get the music to play you have to delete a quicktime file.
Go to my computer, click on your locak disk, choose 'documents and settings', choose the user, click on 'local settings, click on 'application data', click on 'apple computer', click on quicktime, then delete the quicktime file. Reopen itunes and you should be able to authorize and play music.
Now if we can figure out how to authorize the ipod . . . .

  • Itunes Wont Load videos onto Ipod

hi, i currently have a 60GB ipod video, and now itunes is refusing to load any videos onto my ipod, i tried so many different programs to convert video, eg videora, PQ DVD, and Replay converter etc.
and i get the same error, it says video was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod.
is there a way to load videos without using Itunes? or can i force itunes to load the videos?
    any help would be appreciated...
    thanx ^_^

"All my songs are listed on the IPOD but are faded where they are in regular font in my library"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists".
Try restoring your iPod, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. This will give you a fresh installation and allow you to start over: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings

Have you actually played it in iTunes?
Select it and then click File>Get Info>Summary and copy the results here.
If you can’t load a song or other item onto iPod nano
The song might have been encoded in a format that iPod nano doesn’t support. The following audio file formats are supported by iPod nano. These include formats for audiobooks and podcasting:

  • Photo file loading onto ipod 5th generation

I am trying to load photo files onto my new 5th generation ipod but they don't load as the logical 1 to 2 to 3..... file numbers as I have organised in itunes photo folder. For example all the photos I have edited, eg:rotation, end up being loaded last in my ipod. How do I keep the same file number order in my ipod as is in the itunes folder??

No, the Nano has no WiFi capability. Try the app Senuti.

  • Have CD-R of MP4s- can't load onto iPod

Hi. I normally receive avi files that I convert to mp4s and load them on my iPod. I'm fluent in that (thanks to this message board). I just now starting receiving already converted mp4s on the disks instead. The disk basically freezes everything up. I do have an older computer- Dell something running XP. Inserting the disk automatically launches WindowsMediaPlayer that I shut down. But even trying to copy the files from my "My Computer" directory freezes everything up. I can't copy them to my desktop or anything. So short of praying for osmosis transfer- any tricks I can try? I will be replacing my computer soon enough. I have no DVD drive functionality and suspect that may be part of the problem. If I just try to drag the file to my iPod in iTunes, I get a circle with a line through it. If I copy it from My Computer (if I'm able to call it up), I get no paste option back in iTunes.
Any way I can load the file onto another computer and email it over somehow to mine? The file will be too large, no?
    TIA
    Judith

Is the Manually manage music and videos option enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?

  • Unable to load songs onto Ipod from Intel Imac

I am unable to unload songs onto my 5th gen ipod from my Intel Imac. No amount of troubleshooting has helped so far; SMC, restore, swapping usb ports, swapping cables, PRAM, etc.
I can, however, load songs onto the ipod from my 6 yr old Tibook. This leads me to believe my Imac has a usb port problem, unless somehow my ipod is at the root of this issue?
The tibook's usb is 1.1, not 2.0, which makes for verrry loonngg load times and I woould much rather be able to load from my Imac.
Has anybody else encountered anything like this before?
Of course my Imac and my ipod are out of warranty - if my Imac (or my Ipod) are in need of repair, can anybody recommend or anti-recommend good repair services, preferably in the Seattle area?
    please and thanks,
    dt

Yes, Itunes starts up, no dialog boxes at first but I can anticipate soon getting a whirling beachball of death oftentimes just by plugging in the ipod, definitely if and when I try to load any songs onto it.
I often eventually get a dialog box to the tune of ipod could not be loaded to for unknown reasons 1435. Thats the only one I remember right now, though it seems I have gotten slight variations on this theme.
The ipod appears both in itunes and the desktop, although if itunes freezes I cannot see the whole desktop to confirm at all times. Yes, the ipod does appear in the system profiler under usb.
Eventually the entire computer will be taken over by the wbbod, forcing a hard re-boot.
    please and thanks,

You cannot backup photos to iCloud.
You can enable Photo Stream (in Settings > iCloud) but only for 30 days and only a max of 1000 photos.
Then what does this mean? It was copied from the kb article that I posted above.
Reducing the size of your Camera Roll backup
If you take lots of photos and videos with your iOS device, you may notice your Camera Roll takes up most of your iCloud Storage backup. To check the size of the Camera Roll backup on your device:
On your Home Screen, tap Settings.
    Tap iCloud.
    Tap Storage & Backup.
    Tap Manage Storage.
In the Backups section, tap your device.
In the Backup Options section, the backup size is displayed under Camera Roll.
To reduce the size of your Camera Roll backup, save your photos and videos locally to your computer with iTunes, and then manually back up your iOS device. If you want to keep your photos and videos on your iOS device, you can turn off Camera Roll in Backup (see the "Deleting backups and turning off Backup for your Device" section above) orpurchase additional storage.

  • I have song in itunes that will not load onto ipod ?

I have a song in itunes that will not download onto ipod, nothing by song in library indicating there is a problem. Can anyone help me ?

Does the song have a tick-in-the-box next to the song title? (You may have selected to Sync only ticked songs and videos to your iPod. This option is on the Device/Sumary pane that appears when you connect the iPod to iTunes.)
Is the song in a format the iPod can play? (Is it the same format as other songs that do Sync to your iPod?)
Have you looked (on the iPod) under songs as well as artists? (It may show up under songs but not under artists.)
Try the Search facility on the iPod and see if it shows up that way.
