Loading InDesign CS3 After Decomissioning a Computer

I decommissioned a computer that I had loaded InDesign CS3 on. It was transferred to my new computer (by Apple), therefore I have it loaded/running on ONE computer (the other one being DEAD!). I need to load it on a second computer, now. How do I do that? Will Adobe erroneously see this as THREE computers, or did the transfer count as only one load?

Will Adobe erroneously see this as THREE computers,
There's nothing "erroneous". It's just how it works. Yes, it will count as a third machine. Call support to reset activations. Install files can be obtained using this method:

  • InDesign CS3 crashes upon opening a file from Snow Leopard

Hello all. I'm desparately hoping someone can help me with this issue as I've spent the better part of my weekend working on two important files for work and would hate to start over.
I've been working at home in InDesign CS3. My home computer has Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I don't have any font managmenet plug-ins or programs other than Font Book. I started two new files and when I took them to work, both files crash InDesign upon opening. I don't get to open InDesign at all. My work computer has InDesign CS3 as well running Tiger 10.4.11. It is running Suitcase Fusion, which I've tried disabling and then trying to open the file to no avail. I've started the computer in safe mode to try and open the file, deleted preferences, disabled all fonts on the computer, repaired preferences, any and all suggestions listed on these forums and the rest of the internet. All of these solutions were met without success.
All files are stored on a portable hard drive. However, there are files on the drive that were created on the work computer that still open fine so I know the drive is a non-issue.
After InDesign crashes, I'll restart it just by clicking the program icon (not by double-clicking my file or dragging the file to InDesign) and it will crash all by itself. When I restart it again, it asks to repair the file that crashed it. Saying 'YES' crashes the program again.
This is a problem that just arose this morning and I have yet been able to go back home to try and open the files on my home computer. I'm praying my work computer did not corrupt the files somehow.
I'm hoping there is someone out there who can help me?

I understand what you're saying regarding removeable media. I'm tying this message from home with much frustration. I copied the file off the drive onto my desktop, ejected the hard drive, and I get the same crash error:
"The application InDesign has unexpectedly quit. A crash report has been generated.  To provide us with the best chance of fixing this problem, please select Continue to add a detailed description that includes the steps required to reproduce the crash. Adobe will use this crash report to help find a future solution to this problem."
I believe this might be relegated strictly to InDesign as a Photoshop file that was created from scratch, edited, and saved on the same hard drive next to the InDesign file opened perfectly.
I would love the opportunity to send you this file to see if you can open it on your system. I have a YouSendIt account if that works best.

  • InDesign CS3 won't open after upgrading to Leopard.

I'm having an issue starting up Indesign CS3 since upgrading to Leopard. It seems like everything else has been working great, including the rest of CS3, so I'm kinda baffled as to why this doesn't.
When I open it, after loading for a few seconds, I get this error:
    http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/255/picture1lg9.png
    Any ideas?

WOOOO HOOOO! IT IS JUST A FONT CONFLICT!!!!! I think....
After days of trying to figure out why, after installing Leopard, InDesign CS3 crashes every time I tried to open "certain" files... I finally figured it out - at least on my system. I emphasize "certain" files, because InDesign would open certain InDesign files flawlessly... and crash when trying to other InDesign files. I narrowed it down to a handful of files and the only thing that these files had in common was one particular font. Well as it turns out, upon installation, Leopard put a bunch of new fonts into my system folder. I am also using Suitcase Fusion to manage my fonts. When starting the "culprit" files, Suitcase Fusion would try to "auto-activate" a font that was already activated at start-up in the system folder. After removing the "duplicate" font from my system folder - and restarting my computer - everything was back to normal seems to work fine now. I am not much of a computer technician.... but this worked for me. Let me know if this helps you too.

  • InCopy / InDesign CS3 - won't load software but appears in task mgr

We are going through a computer upgrade and am trying to install Adobe CS3 InCopy and InDesign on these new machines.
We purchased HP 6005 Pro PC's with AMD Athlon II processors and are running Windows XP operating system.
Installing both pieces of software goes though fine.  But when you try to turn on the programs, nothing happens.  Nothing loads on the screen.  The only thing shows that the software is running is in the Task Manager.
We have plenty of memory, plenty of hard drive space.  But we can't figure out why the software won't load onto our screens.  After extensive research online, the only thing we can find is that there could be a driver incompatibility.  Nothing conclusive on whether our processors are incompatible either.
Does anyone have any insight on the issue?

We are installing and using the software under the administrator logins.
My main concern is that we purchased computers that have a processor that is incompatible with Adobe InCopy/InDesign CS3.   We purchased two types of PC's, some with AMD Atholon II processors and some with Intel Core2 vpro processors.  InDesign/Incopy CS3 were going to go on the Intel's (more power computer) and the InCopy was going to only go on the AMD's.
Prior to receiving the CS3 versions of the software, I hadn't been aware that was the version we were being assigned by our corporate office.  After looking at the requirements of CS3 on the adobe site, it only mentions Intel Processors as basic requirements.
(We purchasd the computers with AMD's to save some money....the users requiring InCopy didn't need "as much computer" as the InDesign users).
Could the processor be the problem?

  • Indesign Cs3 trial period not load!

hi all, i've installed indesign cs3, at opened indesign,

product number. I chooose the trial period and show a message: "a

    Adobe InDesign."
    How i fix this?

    Hi there TabiszTabiszGraffo
You will probably need to contact Adobe Support for this
    issue.
And, for the record, once you get it installed and running,
you should direct questions about InDesign to the proper forum.
This one is for Adobe Captivate
The InDesign forum is at the link below:

  • Indesign CS3 Crashes when loading text styles

hi all, i need some help.
Indesign cs3 keeps crashing when I try to "load all text styles" from one indesign file to another. the file has ten styles (character & paragraph). I'm currently working on windows 7.
thankyou for any information you can provide.

    Are you patched to 5.0.4?
Export both files to inx, re-open, Save As. (I checked, ID will not load styles from an inx)
Load just one style at a time to isolate a conflict.
Last resort, Highlight text from the source doc, paste into the new doc. I should carry in the style. It only needs to be a single charatcher.

  • InDesign CS3 will not open after installing updates

    Hello,
I am having a problem printing borderless with InDesign CS3. When my paper size is set on borderless my photos print very light. If Iremove the borderless setting the photos print fine.
In a effort to correct this problem I downloaded  and installed updates for InDesign CS3 now InDesign will not open.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029

  • Indesign CS3 refuses to load

Hi, i would be grateful for any advice if you have experience of the same.
My problem is that indesign CS3 refuses to launch all of a sudden.  About two weeks ago it just wouldn’t (and still hasn’t) loaded.  When i click on the application the spinning donut appears beside the cursor as if it is going to load, but no splash screen appears. and then the spinning "donut" next to the cursor disappears.  If i then start my task manager i can see that indesign.exe is running and if i try to open indesign again another occurrence in task manager will load and so on.  THATS IT, any ideas please?
i am running Vista 32bit.  the software has worked fine for at least a year and then it just refused to load.  All other creative suite applications run fine (although i am scared to say that due to their temperamental nature).  I haven’t actively installed any updates for any adobe programmes or windows updates prior to the problem either.  The only thing i can think i have installed recently is a new version of iTunes and that’s it.  I am up-to-date with service packs and updates for vista too.
i have repaired indesigns installation - No joy, i have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled indesign - No joy.  i have also removed the registry entries and data for indesign in the "user app data folder" for indesign when uninstalling and still no joy once re installed.  its driving me mad.
Please note i have spent the last 2 weeks trawling and i mean trawling Google and the adobe forums for advice.  i have tried many suggestions but am open to any you have to offer, i just want to avoid people thinking i am coming here without researching myself first.  i did try one suggestion which is where you start the machine in safe mode and see if indesign cs3 loads then, which it does, but once i restart to the full usual mode - nothing
Thanks in advance, i appreciate any useful advice
    Matt

    Hi Peter,
i have noticed the following -
i have two user accounts on my PC (running vista).  One being my personal one and the other being an Admin account (i set this up as i had to do something that required permission - i forget what now - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/).  If i log into the admin account i can launch Indesign as intended, "one click and open".  However it still refuses to load in my personal account.  i cant see how any updates etc wouldnt have been applied globally - so whats the difference?
I know that probably doesnt help much but thought you may have seen similar or in the past or it may help you identify my problem from past experiences?
    Thanks
    Matt

  • InDesign CS3 hangs with colored spinball after start application

We have inhouse a big problem:
in different times hangs indesign CS3 with the color spinball. After the interruption of the application and restart we can see follow: when the app is up and we think, yes! we can work the spinball comes back and we can wait...if we wait to work after the restart 1-2 minutes the spinball comes for 20-30 seconds and then we can work without problems. As far as the next time (normally within 1 week...).
We have checked the switch, the cables. We have this problem also without network connection. And it reproducible on mac 10.4.x, 10.5.x, Windows XP and Vista. With versions 5.03 and 5.04.
What is this for a problem?
We have deleted all preferences and moved the plugins outside (we have 3 plugins: Softcare K4, Linotype Fontexplorer and Typefy): This problem is always here.
We are helpless. Can you us?
    Thanks for a solution!
    Zeljko

Did you also install any new fonts? That looks like a font error.

  • InDesign CS3 *Can't Load Swatches other than Pantone DS*

I have InDesign CS3 loaded on two Macs and both (within a week of each other) now have the same problem loading swatches. Whatever I choose - Pantone Solid Uncoated, CMYK, RGB etc - it only allows me to pick a Pantone DS Swatch. If I scroll down the options in the pop up menu the list of colour formats is repeated 3 or 4 times. The only way I can create a new swatch is by duplicating and editing an existing one. Will probably need to reinstall, but discs are currently in storage. Any ideas?

    Terence and Sir Alf,
Adobe doesn't usually frequent these forums. These are "user-to-user" forums, as they are so named. If you haven't seen other postings, it may be that it's not a very widespread problem because we get quite a bit of traffic here.

  • When I open FF4 for the first time after starting the computer it is very slow to load. From then on it loads normaly.

I have an HP Pavilion DV9000.

I had this problem too. Not just with FF 4 but also previous versions. For that and other reasons I decided to by an SSD and install windows and all the programs on there. That worked fine except for firefox. Boot time is much faster (2o secs) and programs (from the startup folder) are loaded almost immediately after the desktop comes up. However firefox still took 90 seconds to load. After some trial and error I disables in the registry prefetcher and superprefetch (I am running windows 7, no SP1). Then I restarted my computer twice. The first time firefox did not load any faster but at any subsequent startup firefox starts in a few seconds. In fact some times it is so fast it comes up before the wireless network connection is established. HTH

  • Indesign CS3 will not load

I have Adobe Creative Suite CS3 installed on my home PC (Windows XP). All the Adobe programs will start without problems, except Indesign CS3. Nothing happens when I try to start the program. Not even a message comes up? Can anyone help me solve this problem?
    With kind regards
    Maria

I have the same issue on a pc that I've loaded CS3 on. I have a corporate license of CS3 and know for sure the seat is available for install to this machine. It's a Dell Optiplex GS270, P4 @ 2.66Ghz, 2GB ram. the OS is XP pro, fully patched. I'm only using a single Dell monitor. I ran typical install of CS3 from disk, got all the updates from Adobe. Everything opens just fine except for InDesign. When I try to launch the InDesign.exe process appears in Task Manager for 1-2 seconds and goes away. Nothing else happens, no error messages, nothing.
I've loaded CS3 on my other users without any problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, John

  • After Effects CS3 / Mac OSX 10.5.4 / iMac / Importing CS3 Indesign file into CS3 After Effects

    Hi,
I'm wanting to import a CS3 Indesign file into a CS3 After Effects file including all the layers. Is there a simpler way than importing it into Illustrator then dividing the layers then importing into After Effects?
    Thanks
    Will

Nope, not that I'm aware. Unfortunately AE does flatten layered PDFs, so that second option wouldn't work, either. It should however be possible to spit out each layer as a separate PDF from InDesign with a little work. Perhaps even someone already has created an extension/ command set for this, so I'd ask on the ID forums.

  • Cannot load QXD file into Indesign CS3

    Hi,
I'm trying to open up a Quark QXD file in Indesign CS3.  It find finds the file as a readable file, but when trying to open I get the error message that it cannot open the file - Adobe Indesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
Adobe support lists this as an importable file, and tells me where the plug-in is stored - I've checked and do have it (I can find it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters\Sangam Readers) Reader for QuarkXpress.smrd.  The QXD file is not in use anywhere else.
Is it possible to check if this plug-in is actually loaded and if it's not, how do I install it?  Has anybody else had this problem?
    Any help gratefully received!!!

InDesign cannot directly open Quark files later than version 4 due to encryption. If your files are from a later version you can use the Q2ID plugin from Markzware.
