Loading initrd.img install CD boot up error

This is the error I get when trying to boot up the install CD, 0.7.2.
boot:
Loading vmlinuz.....................................
Loading initrd.img...isolinux: Disk error FE, AX = 4280, drive 9F
Boot failed: press a key to retry...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the ISO from the sticky and it got farther into the install process, but now I get another error.
EIP: [<c012a1be>] cpu_callback+0x28e/0x2d0 SS:ESP 0068:c1133f80
<0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!"
There is also a lot of other information before that on the screen, but it's a lot to typ out.  If it's absolutely needed I guess I could take a picture of it on the monitor.
I didn't know if I should start a new thread about this or not, sorry.

  • Installing VM Server v2.2.1 on Dell PE T110 hangs at loading initrd.img

    Hello,
I'm trying to install VM Server v2.2.1 on a Dell PowerEdge T110. I burned OracleVM-Server-2.2.1.iso to a CD, booted the T110, got to the Oracle VM Server installation screen, entered:
    boot: /isolinux/vmlinuz initrd=/isolinux/initrd.img
pressed enter, and see the following two messages:
    loading /isolinux/vmlinuz...............................
    loading /isolinux/initrd.img.......
How long should loading initrd.img take? I've waited as long as 30 minutes with no further evident progress. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I suspect there may be a problem with the cdrom you burned. It is supposed to start executing the kernel after the initrd is loaded. Verify that the iso image you downloaded is intact, and maybe try burning another copy.

  • All Windows I Install return boot\bcd error

    Have a l645d-s4040.
Im Lost now.. I've read many threads similar to my problem, or exactly like my problem. Ive tried it all, and done at least 12 Different installs. heres the info:
Bought it brand new, was unaware of making the restoration disks until it was too late.
I had a virus, so I did "clean all" in diskpart, at the cmd prompt. So i can start fresh. I have a retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, which was the original OS. went through the installation process fine, until the reboot where its supposed to go through the second step of the installation. on reboot i get a "bcd\boot" error. Ive tried repairing the MBR, the Boot record, ive tried using align=1024, ive tried using paragon, and acronis to fix the boot record. Ive tried using boot managers. Ive tried installing windows vista, ive tried windows 7 ultimate 64 and 32 bit versions.. the only OS i can get to install is XP.. Im at a loss
of course of done : Startup Repair (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html)
So after the first step of of installation, which goes fine then reboots to continue the installation i get:
    Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click “Next.”
    3. Click “Repair your computer.”
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configurations data.
    Enter= Continue ESC=Exit
so i reboot with the install cd. which i downloaded from www.mydigitallife.info/windows-7-iso-x86-and-x64-official-direct- download-links-ultimate-professional-and-home-premium/.
And ran the startup repair, first time no OS found and failed to save startup options.  rebooted and this time the repair worked and it booted fine running the 2nd step of the installation process.. on the reboot i got same boot\bcd error.. so i repeated the repair steps above.. it finally booted and finalized the installation.. i got to the desktop fine and installed all my drivers.  when i rebooted i got the same error.
    WHATS UP WITH THIS???

  • Installing Windows 7 Using bootcamp 5.0 on MBPr OSX 10.8.2 Black Screen Not Loading Windows 7 Install on Boot

I am trying to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp Assistence 5.0 on a MacBook Pro Retina OSX 10.8.2, I went through all steps on Creatting the Windows 7.iso into a bootable USB Dirve 16GB I use a separate USB Drive 2 GB and download Windows Support Drivers Step 2 on bootcamp assistence. I run into the problem in step 3 when the computer reboot I just get a black screen the back display still on like I can still see the apple on the back lit up, but the screen is black and wont load the window installer, if i shut it down and bring it back up i get error saying IOS not found so then i have to shut it down, enter recovery and restart on osx partition, i can see that the bootcamp partition was created but cant load windows to it. Please can anybody help me or guide me on what i am doing wrong? thank you so much in advance

this will install as normal. before installing however you will need an activation key cos in win 7 this is one of the first pages that is presented before instalation.
the key from your relative could possibly work especially if he used your internet connection to register. but this could cause problems with his/your authenticity after 30 days.
the only other option is to purchase a key.
you say a 30 day trial, does it give you a temporary key for this?

  • Error installing grub boot loader

I am currently following the beginner guide for installing arch, and once I get to the place where I need to install a boot loader and use the command pacman -S grub-bios, I get a seemingly never ending output of "sh: /usr/bin/wget: no such file or directory" then it will change to "warning: failed to retrieve some files from core"(more like all files lol) etc as it goes through the repos. I've followed the guide to a tee, with the exception of the example partitioning on there. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going wrong?

It seems like wget is missing on the install partition. This is after you have done arch-chroot right?
I would try to do a
    # pacman -Syy wget
to update the archive and install wget
    and then try grub-bios again
    edit:
If you are still on the install media the command you want to use is
    # pacstrap /mnt grub-bios

  • Installing a boot loader?

    (Continued from this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=23492
Wanted to make a new one because its a different question and may involve different skill sets)
I've got a question, is there anything I can do, or try to do with my computer right now?
I'm currently running off a Live-CD version of Knoppix STD off of my 256mb RAM stick. Would it be possible to install a boot loader from Knoppix? Might that be the reason it doesn't get past the first screen? But does that also explain why I can't access BIOS or Boot options by pressing F2 or F10?

i remember this from the LQ boards. i thought you determined that the hard drive was bad? or possibly that gateway has some sort of proprietary boot sector crap on there that got erased when you installed arch?
you should contact gateway or check out their website to see if that's the case, or if they have any disk diagnostic software, etc. (also check hard drive manufacturer's site). maybe gateway would have some way to restore the special partition (if in fact it had one). or maybe you need to flash the bios -- again check gateway or the motherboard manufacturer.

  • Where to install the boot loader?

Upon finishing the installation, you are given the chance to select wherte to install the bootloader.......
The same installation program recommends you to install it on sdb in example, instead of in sdb6.........
In my setup, /boot is sdb6, so: where should i install it? which pros and cons does it have to install it in one or in the other?
    Thanks!

I have some system, i think its name is doors, or windows, something like that, in another separate disk.. lets say, sda......... so, i think the best choice is still to install that boot code on sdb directly, isnt it?
I will install it later when im back at home, and post any othe problems i am finding with the pertitions..... i think grub is getting a bit mad since i have 3 different disks sda, sdb and sdc.........
    Thanks!!!

  • Cpio -i initrd.img killed arch (and debian)

This afternoon i decided to try and (primatively) hack the arch linux installer initrd.img file from the Arch Linux 2007.08.1 install CD.  I tried to extract the contents of the file (following these instructions :http://www.ducea.com/2006/06/24/inspect … itrd-file/) by first putting a .gz extension on it, extracting it with gunzip and then extratcing the produced file with cpio.  This did not work (was outputting messages like "File no written: same or newer version on file system").  So then i did the stupidest thing in the world, Twice.  I ran that same command (cpio -i < initrd.img --make-directories) as root on arch linux and then on debian (casue it still would not work).  What has resulted is i think that desite the fact that i had cd'd to a different folder, the cpio command with root powers has tried to extract everything in the initrd.img file into the root of my filesystem.  Bad.
Now when I reboot, the bootup scripts cannot load modules (ie modprobe fails saying it cannot find modules).  GDM will not load.  Pretty Much everything is broken (i am writing this post from a live CD).  Interesting over things: I recall something (xserver i think) complaining that it could not write to the /tmp folder.  Also i now get the same message that displays when you load up the install cd when i boot into arch on my hdd (says stuff like to install arch type arch/install....and press enter to enter the bash shell...)
To try and fix the problem, I tried doing the same thing with the file kernel26.img from the /boot folder on arch linux in the same way that i extracted the initrd.img file from the install cd, but to no avail.
As i said earlier i think that the cpio command only wrote extra files into my filesystem (ie all the ones that existed in  the initrd.img archive from the arch linux install cd that were not already on my filesystem) Becasue it was outputting messages like "File not written: same or newer file on filesystem" i don't think i overwrote any already existing files.
Any Ideas as to how i might get stuff the way it was before?

Woah.... if you unpacked the INSTALLER image, you have a lot of shit on your disk now that... well, that's borked. I don't know all of the cruft that is crammed into the install ISO, but it even has things like 'naim' on it....
If you want your system to boot, I'd recommend booting a live cd, chrooting into your drive, then running "pacman -Sy mkinitcpio kernel26" to at least get a bootable kernel... however, I'd seriously recommend reinstalling...

  • Unable to load GRUB after install

I recently purchased an Acer Extensa 4620 and wanted to load Archlinux on it. For those of you unfamiliar with this particular brand, Acer has a bad habit of partitioning the hard drive into strange partitions. In the case of my 120gb hard drive I had two partitions of about 56gb each and a 5gb ghost partition. I cleaned up the larger two partitions and made them into a single 115gb partition. From here I partitioned this into my /, /home/, and swap for my install. After completing the install, and loading GRUB into /, I am given the error of no OS, which is the case since I no longer have XP installed. Im curious if whether or not I installed GRUB correctly. Should I have installed it in /, or made the /boot partition? Or does none of this matter because the 5gb ghost parition, which is for recovery tools, could be somehow interfering?
I thought i'd ask before I went ahead and deleted the partition. My next step before doing so is recreating the partitions and including a /boot and installed GRUB here.
I'd appreciate any help in this quandry.
By the way pardon the bad grammar. Sleeplessness is getting to me.

I think you may have grub in the wrong place, though I'm not sure exactly what you've done.
Grub consists of two parts, the loader itself, and the files.  The files just have to be somewhere the loader can read them, so /boot/ (does not have to be a separate partition) is the usual place.
The loader can be in one of two places, the root partition (which I think you may have done) or the MBR.  If it is in the MBR it will be used to boot the computer, if it is in the root partition, it expects a different bootloader (in the MBR) to boot the computer, then pass over to it.
Thus, you should be installing to the MBR, not the root partition.
Either way, it looks like grub is not installed in the MBR, so try:
    install-grub /dev/sda
Replace sda with the appropriate device if your hard drive is not sda.  Note sda not sda1.
You'll have to do so with a live CD of course, if you cannot boot.
You can get a bit more info on grub in the wiki

  • Can someone explain what I am doing wrong? Windows Boot manager error.

Okay, I've literally searched EVERYWHERE and can not find a reasonable answer to this question.
Everytime I try to load windows on bootcamp, I get this error:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause . to fix problem:
    1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer
2.choose your language settings, and then click "next"
if you do not have the disc, contact your system admistrator or computer manufacturer for assistence
    status 0xc0000017
    And that's it.
I have tried everything from usb to countless 8 gig DVD which I wasted from burning the ISO time and time again.
I am doing everything through the bootcamp installer and I partition up to 80 gigs of space of my hard drive for it.
This is an official iso image from windows btw.
I think it's a memory problem, but I am not sure. Here are my specs:
    Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro5,1
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon

      SMC Version (system):          1.39f11

If you can shoot me some advice on what I may be doing wrong, please do. I really need it urgently.
    Thanks!

you really are way too low on memory, but that is not the issue.
all the other hard drives need to be pulled except one.
bumbing is sort of like there are only so many people likely to read and try to help. give us a couple hours or more.
you say Windows, I ask "which?"
And really all the faq and how to and even guide should cover your bases.
Can only guess that the media you used to burn DVD or source..  see, we are not mind readers, some buy System Builder, or buy as a ISO download and burn to DVD... so start with the FAQs.
