Loading Installation Information during recovery

I erased my MacBook Pro and used recovery HD in order to reinstall OS Lion. When it checks my version eligibility, it hangs on "Loading Installation Information". I left it to load overnight and still nothing. I am using an ethernet cable and I tried my wifi, neither has worked.

Samole,
which model MacBook Pro do you have?

If your MBA is a 2010 model or later use Internet Recovery to restore it. If your MBA is a 2010 model then it needs a firmware update to allow you to do an Internet Recovery: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Lion clean install stuck at loading installation information

I have a 13" Core2duo MacBook Pro with Lion installed through the Appstore. I recently upgraded my RAM and hard drive at an apple service center. Before upgrading i created a recovery USB disc using the recovery assistant app.
But now when I try to use that disc to install the OS it gets stuck forever at "Loading Installation Information" screen.
I get the same effect even if connect my old hard drive and boot into its recovery HD.
My Snow leapord DVD is in my other house in a different city.
The support center has refused to help me on this.
    Please help me.

    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If you can, boot from your old drive. After you startup clone the old drive to the new one:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the internal new drive.

  • Logic board replaced...asking me to reinstall OS X Lion, but stuck on "loading installation information" for 4 hours. What to do?

I had to have the logic board in my 7 month old iMac replaced due to the fact that my now exboyfriend put a firmware password on my iMac remotely and I couldn't get into my computer. I took it to the Genius Bar and they replaced the logic board so I wouldn't lose any of my files. I just got it back and when I turned it on, it is asking me to reinstall OS X Lion. So, after hitting continue, a box comes up telling me that they have to verify the computer's eligibility with Apple and that it is "loading Installation Information". I've been stuck on this screen for 4 hours, at a 18.25 mbps download speed. What do I need to do? Tried searching forums, but nothing really gives an answer.

Take it back to the Apple Store and make them fix it.

  • Loading Installation Information Issue

I'm currently installing Lion OS after completely erasing everything on my HD due to corrupt files and a bunch of problems. I'm currently stuck on a screen that says "To download and restore Mac OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple. Loading Installation Information". I did quite a bit of research on what's going on here, and I'm aware that it's downloading the OS and it takes several hours. But it needs WiFi to download (obviously), now when the computer goes to sleep, the WiFi shuts off, is it still being able to download? I've been sitting here for hours waiting for it to finish. Any suggestions on what to do? Here's what it is showing me if you're wondering. Sorry for the crappy quality, Acer netbooks don't have a good webcam.

You should be in Lion community and/or MacBook Pro.
    The tech note I found:
OS X Lion: Unable to download OS X Lion wirelessly from Mac App Store - "Your device or computer could not be verified"
    Products Affected
Mac App Store, OS X Lion
    Symptoms
When attempting to purchase or download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store wirelessly with your Apple ID account, you may receive a dialog stating "Your Device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance." This could happen when upgrading Mac OS X v10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8 to OS X Lion via a Wi-Fi connection.
    Resolution
Use the following steps to delete your network preferences.
Important: You must be logged in as an administrator.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
    Type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Copy the file networkinterfaces.plist to the desktop (to make a precautionary backup).
Delete the file "networkinterfaces.plist." from SystemConfiguration.
    Restart your Mac.
Create new location in Network preferences, in System Preferences.
Once your computer has restarted, you will need to refresh your network settings to be able to connect to the Internet again:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
From the Location pop-up menu, choose "New Location".
Type a name for your location and click OK.
Click the Apply Now at the bottom right to accept the changes.
If your network connection requires any special settings, you will need to enter them again.
Once you have made these changes, you should be able to connect to the Internet, open App Store, and try your OS X Lion purchase or download again.
    Additional Information
This issue may occur if your Mac's Ethernet port is damaged or inoperable, even if you aren't using Ethernet to try to download Lion.

  • How long should Loading Installation Information take with a formatted Drive?

The OS was corrupted when installed over an incompatible 10.6 version of Centrify.  It should have been uninstalled prior to installing Lion, so I was hoping to do a fresh install without restoring anything related to older applications to sort out network hang conditions.  Restoring from Time Machine does not appear to offer selective restore in terms of Apps and Users.
I am now waiting for more than hour at a window over the prompt "To set up the installation of Mac OS X 10.7, click Continue" that says:
To download and restore Mac OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple. This just has a throbber spinning in front of the message
Loading Installation Information... "  I have about 16mbit/sec Internet connectivity, how long should this phase of the reinstall operation take?
When I first installed Lion, a bootable image of the initial version of Lion was made that was able to restore Lion to an erased drive in about 28 minutes.  It seems that image has been disabled by changes the MacBook boot flash.  Is there a way to be better prepared, and how long should this process take starting with an erased drive?

Sorry to hear that saga. This time download another Lion installer from MAS by going to purchases and holding the option key. When downloaded it will appear in /Applications. Save it off to several different places on your disk and off.
Also, consider keeping bootable clones with SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
That way if you have a problem, just boot up from the clone and keep on working until you're ready to fix.

  • Internet Recovery could not find installation information on this machine.

Hi there I've bought an iMac the latest model as well as the Macbook Air also the latest model and the Airport Extreme also the lastest model but i am unable to do internet recovery and none of my devices came with operating disc to restore my systems. I'm always prompted with the error "could not find installation information on this machine". Is there anyway I could have this fixed? I've called technical support and they said they cant do anything but for me to bring it to any apple support centre to get it formatted. Its alot of trouble for me to go down leave the machine there for a few days and come back to collect it again. Both my machines are extremely new and could not perform this internet recovery from day one. I even though it was my router so i gave away my WNDR 3700 and bought the apple airport extreme. Please help

It's possible there is a block on your Interet connection. If it works on a Apple network but not yours then that points the finger at your network. If this is a home network then I'd start by changing the DNS settings to:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences
If you are on a business network or any other type of network where someone else has control over it then they may have put certain restrictions on it. In that case you will have to contact the Network Administrator for help.

Recovery Partition – Recreate Without Reinstalling (Requires Installer)

  • During recovery installation it turned off

I recently baught a new laptop from a friend and therefore wanted to restore to factory settings. I inserted the disk and went through the setting and it began to restore. Half way through the process about 50% it turned off/overheated. It tells me to insert the start up disk, which I do not have, and now I do not know what to do because it will not start up without it.
What can I do and where can Iget a new one?
    Please answer at ([email protected])
    THANK YOU!!

    Hi
I think the solution for this problem is pretty easy. If the computer turned off during recovery installation you have to do this installation again I think because some files are missing, etc.
So boot from the recovery disk and try it again.
By the way: It would be interesting to know what notebook you have exactly. If it does overheat, try to clean it using compressed air spray. ;)

  • Erased my Harddisk, coudnt reinstall Mac Os Lion from internet recovery as it says "Could not find installation information on this Machine"

Hi, i just got this Macbook Pro last October and recently i wanted to have a clean install of Mac Os Lion so i erased my harddisk in disc utilities, and found myself unable to install back Mac Os Lion from the internet.. It says 'Coudnt get installation information on this machine', I don't think my internet is the issue as ive tried installating it in both of my houses :/. Tried asking my friend.. he ended up screwing things up in Disc Utilities. If i recall carefully.. My Disc utilities used to look like this
    500GB Toshiba Harddisk
    -Macintosh HD
    -Disk1
    Mac OX Base System
    but now its just
    500gb Toshiba Harddisk
    -Mac OX Base System
Sorry if i don't know what i'm talking about as i'm quite new to using a Mac and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The fix is to use Disk Utiilty to make the Lion Partition a tiny bit smaller.

  • My macpro cant find installation information on this machine. help

i am trying to reinstall the Lion but i constantly receivin this "Cant Find installation information on this machine" i need help here.

You need to provide more information on what you are doing. Otherwise, this is how:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Singapore ISP  Singtel is having issues with Apple Internet Recovery.
There is a need to add proxy access via port 8080.
Since I can't even get into Recovery mode, this info doesn't help.
So, I call up Apple hotline and explain the whole picture.
Was fortunate that Apple has similar feedback from Singapore user.
So, was told to just bring down Mini to service provider.
    Problem solved some what.
Service provider only reinstate the ori OS X Lion.
Back home, I download and install ML.
This time, made a copy of ML installer in USB stick for future usage.
I guess the only way around this is getting someone to just install Lion or ML, if Internet recovery doesn't work.
