Loading itunes crashes my laptop

I have a ipod 3rd gen, worked fine, until a couple of weeks ago when i tried to open itunes, my laptop screen turned black and had blue stripes across it, my computer then crashes. I have un-installed itunes and reinstalled it a couple of times but the same happens. Please help as i need my music on the go! :o(

Hi I have a similiar problem.
Everything was fine ( and has been for weeks) and then as of the weekend Itunes crashes my computer. It either freezes it completely requiring a hard switch on, or re-boots it. Always after 4 songs. I have uninstalled itunes and completely re-installed it but it make no difference. I have checked with my antivirus and I have no viruses. I am completely lost.
Any ideas?

  • ITunes crashing Vista/laptop

    Hi,
Having serious issues with iTunes 9.2. Every time I attempt to open iTunes on my laptop the whole system stops. The mouse pointer is frozen, CtrlAltDel doesn't work and I have to turn the power supply off to restart. It does the same thing when my nano is connected (assuming this is because iTunes is attempting to open. The exact same thing is happening with Skype so it's probably something about my system as opposed to iTunes only.
Any ideas? It's driving me mad.
    Cheers!
    Andy

    Go to
Skype-->File -> Options -->Hand/Headsets-->USB Audio Device(do not use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even if the main speakers are off or turned down.
    Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard.
In Audio (untick) Use only default devices

My desktop with iTunes crashed, how do i get my music on my phone to the new Itunes on my laptop?

Have you not got a backup of your content on external drives and/or CDs/DVD ? If so then you can copy that onto the computer and load them into iTunes. Have you tried doing File > Transfer Purchases in iTunes with the phone connected to see if any of you purchases transfer over ? If you are in the US then you should also be able to re-download past music purchases : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you havn't bothered backing up your content then you could see if any of the utilities mentioned on this old post still exist and work : https://discussions.apple.com/message/11014893?messageID=11014893#11014893

  • I have my IPad 2 synced to Itunes. My Laptop crashes. No data available on the HDD. Bought a new HDD installed Itunes. Is their any way to do a restore to itunes from my IPad?

I have my IPad 2 synced to itunes on my corporate laptop. The laptop crashed and I needed to send the laptop away. IT re-immaged the laptop. I loaded Itunes, and my question to anyone is is their a way to restore a Itunes lib back to a PC from a IPad

It has always been very basic to alway maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

  • Loading ITUNES on laptop

My desktop is where I initially installed ITUNES. That computer is now in storage as I'm military and in the middle of PCS. I've loaded the newest version of ITUNES on my laptop and my songs there were imported. I'd like to connect my ipod to the laptop, but I'm afraid all the songs on the ipod will be erased when I sync. All songs are legally obtained. Any ideas on this process?
    Ed

If all the music on your iPod is currently contained on the Laptop, then you will not have a problem with syncing the iPod to the Laptop.
If there is music on the iPod that is not on the Laptop, then see this post for various options:

  • Itunes 9 download crashes my laptop

    Hi all,
I got a brand new Ipod for my birthday and on connecting it to my laptop it told me i needed at least itunes 9.0 for it to work.
I currently have itunes 8.1.2 and for some reason i can't install itunes 9.0.
Whenever the download is about 75% complete my laptop crashes, even task manager. And i have to manually reboot before i can do anything.
I've tried to download itunes 9.0 from the website but the same thing happens it crashes just when it begins to install Quicktime.
I uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Pleaseeee can someone help me i just want to get up and running with my lovely new ipod and am soo frustrated.
    Thanks,
    Caitlin

I uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Good lord. That's a fairly dramatic symptom to have occur during an install/uninstall (nowadays), Caitlin.
My worry here is that there's some disk damage on the PC "underneath" some QuickTime program files. So when Windows Installer tries to remove those files, it hits the dodgy patch of disk, and everything turns to custard. (Usually with one of those sorts of problems you'd get a 2330 installation error message, but if the disk damage is of the right/wrong type, a freeze of the PC would also be quite plausible.)
Try running a disk check over the drive you've got your QuickTime program files installed on. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors:
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an iTunes/QuickTime install to go through properly afterwards?
