Loading library book into ADE

Hi all,
Seems as if a few people have had probs getting library books onto ADE. I did it awhile ago (somehow) but can't seem to do it now. I have Windows XP running ADE 1.7.2.1132. Been browsing the library, found an interesting book, checked it out and when I get to the download page is where the problems begin. Clicking the download link opens ADE but the book never appears. No message, nothing. "Authorize Computer..." says it is authorized to my email. I'm a little stumped. Anyone with ideas on what the problem might be?
Thanks,
-steve-

Hi,
In order to fix the problem you can try following.
Solution ) Delete following folder from your computer.
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Digital Editions\Restore
Delete Restore folder and then open book again.
HD:/Users/UserName/Digital Edittions/Restore (If you are using MAC)
Solution 2) Download the file first once downloaded right click on the file and choose Open with>>Adobe Digital Editions.
I hope this will help you!!!

Rizwan

  • I am unable to open my downloaded library books in ADE.  I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and want

    I am unable to open my downloaded library books in ADE.  I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and want to transfer the books to a Kobo reader.  Was able to load books perfectly until recently.  I have tried trashing ADE and re-installing but have received the message that the version of ADE will not run with my current operating system.  Tried resetting the Kobo reader and thought maybe it was not authorized but it appears in ADE when I plug it in.  Any help would be greatly appreciated - getting very frustrated!

    You nshould ask in the Digital Editions forum,

  • Cannot transfer library books from ADE to my Kobo.

    Please help. At first when I tried to transfer library books from ADE to my Kobo I got an error message "some file(s) cannot be transferred".I reinstalled ADE and  reauthorized ADE and my Kobo, per Kobo help advice. Now I get an errror message that says I do not have permission to transfer the files. Kobo help says the issue is with my library. I  contacted Netlibrary (the source of the books I borrowed on line) and they say they cannot find a problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Are any other ereaders easier to use to read library books? Thanks!!

    yes i have a book from my local library on my kobo, but the content is locked and i get amessage "please use your adobe id to authorize your ereader with the kobo desktop application or adobe digital editions". adobe can't help

    down loaded library book via 'MY MEDIA' and Adobe ,  now want to return Ebook. Cant get from MY MEDIA anymore to Adobe bookshelf

    I changed the code I had teh rror with to return just list. It complies OK now but when I run the client it says:

    It has a problem with the line loadedlist = remote.readFile() I think (I do have loadedlist declared as a PhoneDetails[] loadedlist PhoneDetails[250]; in PhoneClient, you just can't see it).

  • My answer to Error Message 2038 when trying to download library books to ADE/NOOK

    I found my solution! I previously posted a "Help" on the forum because I could not get my public library books to download to ADE. I kept getting an error message #2038 stating to check my network connectivity. Well, not being a techie, I didn't even know what that meant....and the search began. After MANY excrutiating hours, I found the simple answer for my particular trouble.
    First, please indulge me why I whine.... I checked my firewall by funbling my way through my computer and trying to download to ADE without it being turned on, not my problem. My virus protection, not the problem. I copy and pasted folders as suggested in some forums and totally messed them all up. I had to delete them from my PC and have Nook help me reset my nook to factory settings and reauthorize my Nook.  What a MESS! I uninstalled and reinstalled ADE checking out my ID, etc. I spoke with the public library and tried their solutions....nada. I TRIED to speak with ADE but they informed me Digital Editions is a free software so I couldn't even PAY a techie to speak to me and had to use these forums. Nook advised me that the problem was not Nook related and they were NOOK TECHIES not computer techies so maybe I should check with ADE. ON AND ON around the merry go round.
    Finally, here was my problem and answer. I did not know what a "proxy" was. I kept being told to check my "proxie server". I don't know if this will work for anyone else but here was my simple answer. I have a satellite internet service provider. I called them, and although they told me this was not within their scope of service, they helped me. I went onto Internet Exployer, I clicked on Tools. I clicked on Internet Options, I clicked on the connections tab, I click on the LAN settings and there was a number in my "proxy server" box. I recognized this number as being the same number listed for my satellite provider (Hughes Net). I called them and told them my problem and asked if that number SHOULD be in my proxy box. They had me delte the number and click on "automatically detect settings" instead. They then had me make sure my internet could still surf the internet correctly by having me go into "graphi-heavy" sites like Facebook.com and CNN.com. My internet worked great as ever. I then went to the public library web site and checked out a book. ADE came up and instantly downloaded the book. I was able to drag and drop the book to my Nook icon and it appeared in my Nook. I can now check out free public library books, which is the whole reason WHY I purchased the Nook and not the Kindle!!!!
    I was told this proxy setting was not "wrong" just speaking a language that ADE could not translate....so to speak.
    Yeah!!!!!! I hope if anyone else has this problem, you will find this posting to be your easy answer......because it has not been easy to find this information out.  There is noone out there to help you but these forums!!!! The one fall-back to the NOOK is that they are NOT prepared to help you resolve any compatibility problems. THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THE NOOK, they aren't computer Techies. NOOK is great, but if they want to be #1 they are going to have to beef up their Support Network with qualified computer/Nook techies.

    Hooray!!!

  • ADE 2.0 stopped working (won't download library books to ADE on Windows computer for Kobo

    I've used ADE to download e-books from my public library onto my Kobo for over a year now but for a week now I haven't been able to.  When I open the library book, select 'download' and it opens  ADE but it is a totally blank page (there should be several books there that I have purchased).  It sits on this blank screen for a while and eventually an error message comes up "ADE 2.0 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solutions is available".
    I pinged my local library who suggested that I uninstall ADE and reinstall it.  I did that and nothing changed.  I waited 24 hrs and tried again. Still no change.  I've also removed my computer authorization (ADE-Help-Contr Shift d) and reauthorized.  Still can't load a book.
    Any suggestions???

    There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).
    Some of them just appear like that for no obvious reason on previously working systems.
    Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
    (You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
    Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
    Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
    It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
    Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • Is it possible to load Nook books in ADE?

    Hi,
    My Nook account and ADE are registered to the same email address. I bought a Nook book from bn.com and tried to read it on my computer but I keep getting an error:
    Document is licensed for a different user account
    Can someone help ? Is it not possible to read Nook books on ADE ?
    Thanks,
    Ami

    Before this goes too far, let's put the proper disclosure into the
    discussion.
    DRM is the implementation of the Digital Millenium Copyright act of 2000.
    That's the law.  If you try to remove DRM protection from an epublication,
    you will be violating the law, and there are some pretty stiff penalties
    including jail time if you're caught.  More to the point, your ethics are
    screwed up if you think that you can break the law just because of some
    technical consideration or because you think that DRM should not apply to
    you.
    Next up is the question: does ADE interact with Nook ebooks from B&N?  It's
    not just a question of the implementation of DRM by B&N in Nook ebooks.
    B&N has added some features to THEIR ebook software that aren't in the
    standard .epub format.  ADE doesn't have access to B&N's selection of
    ebooks, so ADE can't interact with them.  So, what are you talking about?

  • Library Books in ADE, but cant transfer to Sony Reader

    My husband just purchased the Sony Pocket Edition for me and I have been able to download and read free ebooks from feebooks.com, but when I went to check some out from the Ohio Ebook project, that is when I started having issues.
    The files are .acsm.  I can view them in ADE, can see my reader plugged in and is listed in ADE (never did ask me to authorize it, but maybe that was because I already had done so in Sony Redaer Library?)
    Anyway, now I have my library ebooks checked out, sitting in ADE, but can NOT for the life of me get them to my sony pocket edition.  What am I doing incorrectly?
    Thank you for any help- it is greatly apprecited

    Found out what I was doing incorrectly. I was trying to transfer the .ascm file and did not realize that a new folder opened elsewhere called "My Digital Editions" where the library ebooks PDFs were.

  • Down load e books into i Pad

    We purchased an E book with the title of Adobe After eEffects CS6 Visual Efects and Colmpusition Studio Techniques from Adobe Press and downloaded the file as an EPUB file onto a PC running Windows XP.  The final destination for this file is onto an iPad.  We realise that to do this we have to transfer the file via i Tunes on the PC.  The problem is that this type of file will not transfer into i Tunes for the transfer.  It would have been a lot easier if we could have called up the download on the i Pad and made a direct transfer but to our knowledge this can't be done.  Please advise.

    If you still want to try the Dropbox route here are some questions/suggestions.
    Always difficult to diagnose for someone else when it is working here. Some suggestions a bit silly, clutching at straws.
    I haven't seen any other comments on the web of the Dropbox/Bluefire reader combination failing to work.
    Just double checking.
    You did use the right hand of three top right icons in Dropbox, with the arrow pointing down into the box?  (Goodness knows what that is meant to mean!)
    Sounds as if you must have done, otherwise it would't have come up the the 'no installed apps' message.
    Have you authorised the Bluefire reader to your AdobeID?
    I would have thought that if you hadn't, it would be the Bluefire reader that said it couldn't open the .epub,
    rather than Dropbox not knowing about the Bluefire reader.  But ...???
    Have you run the Bluefire reader on the iPad.
    Maybe on first run it does something to tell other apps around that it exists?
    I have the following versions installed on the iPad.  Some difference here could be what is making mine work and yours not?
    Dropbox Version 2.0
    Bluefire Reader, Version 1.9
    ios version 6.0.1 (10A523)
    iPad 2 (apparantly model MV775B)
    I just did another experiment and found that transferring the .acsm file via Dropbox works as well (for me).
    When the .acsm file is displayed in Dropbox on the iPad it displays the xml content of the file, but still has the dropdown for 'Open in Bluefire Reader'.
    Opening this caused Bluefire to re-dowload the .epub file direct to the iPad.
    ~~~
    Another suuggestion I have seen ( http://www.pldminfo.org/search/digitaldownloads/iPadBluefire.pdf ) to avoid the need for iTunes
    is to mail the file to yourself.  I've just tested that with both .acsm and .epub files and it works for me.
    It probably uses the same 'cross-application' mechanism that Dropbox uses to open files,
    but maybe for some reason it will work for you where Dropbox failed.
  • Library book won't download into Adobe!!!
    I have a Nook color and work with windows vista.  I have gone through and authorized the Adobe Digital Editions and it worked just fine for the first couple of books and then it just stopped.  When I click to download a PDF or EPUB book from my library it opens the Adobe like it's going to load and then nothing happens.  I have tried un-installing the program and re-installing with no success.  I'm at a loss at this point and the library has given me no answers as to the problem.  Any ideas anyone?????
    One note to add here....
    If you open the document with ADE, you have the option of saving it when
    it's open, and ADE has all the information about it, plus the file path
    where it will be located.  That may save some work later.  I downloaded a
    book into ADE, but it came up in the 'Reading' pane, and I was not able to
    save it to the Library.  It's still out there somewhere, but it does not
    appear in ADE.
  • How to load library epub books on the kobo
    I borrowed a book from the library and it downloaded to my computer.  It appears in adobe digital editions but will not open on the kobo, it says: is is protected by Adobe digital rights management and is not currently authorized for use wiht your Adobe ID.  Please sign-in with the authorized Adobe ID and try again.
    I did this and authorized my computer and it still won't load.  I also just downloaded the newest version of Adobo Digital Editions.  Help please!
    Hi sjpt,
    I am having the issue as ames 459 above.
    I am also having trouble transferring library books from ADE on my computer to my Kobo ereader.  I installed ADE on my computer, authorized my computer and have an Adobe ID and successfully authorized my ereader and transferred epubs from the library to the Kobo.
    This is what happened next. I changed computers and installed ADE on a second computer and things worked.  I have since gone back to my first computer which had an older version of ADE 2.0. This computer was still authorized with ADE. When I downloaded an EPUB from my public library the book successfully downloaded onto my computer in Adobe Digital Editions and I was able to open it up and read it in ADE on my computer. When I transferred the EPUB book in ADE to the ereader I received the following message on the ereader not on ADE:
    Oops! This document couldn't be opened
    This document is protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management and is not currently authorized for use with your Adobe ID. Please sign-in with the authorized Adobe ID and try again.
    I didn’t know what to do so I uninstalled the ADE application and installed the lastest version 2.0. I also reinstalled my ereader desktop software. I deauthorized and reauthorized the Kobo (did this on the Kobo). Both the computer and ereader say that they are authorized.  I read on the forum that version 1.7.2 was better so I  have now resinstalled the older version but I am having the same error message (oops, this document couldn’t be opened).
    I am not a very computer/technical savy and I don’t know what to do.
    Thanks for the help
  • Can't download library books to my ADE, v. 3.0 from Mac OS X, with Yosemite download
    i have a Mac OS X 10 w. Yosemite download.  am having trouble downloading library books to ADE, v. 3.0, which i would then like to transfer to my Simple touch Nook.  I noticed that the authorization is for a DRM but the books are ACSM.  should i change the computer authorization and if so, how do i do this?
    Thank you.  I did find a book that i had checked out from the library in the documents file.  however, the book wants to open in iBooks.  i want the book to go to my Simple Touch Nook and i thought that i could only do that through ADE, v. 3, which i have downloaded (several times).  however i can’t get the library books to download or go to ADE anymore.  I reauthorized the computer, using  an Overdrive authorization, but i still can’t get books to download to ADE.  i believe that before all this trouble, i had an ADE authorization.  I was wondering if i should de-authorize the computer (but don’t know how to do that) and re-insert an ADE authorization.  (but of course i don’t really know how to do that either).  i have spent so much time one this matter that i can’t remember what i’ve done.  Nook and Apple say that this is an ADE problem, and i have reviewed the discussions in the Forums, but so far i haven’t found anything exactly on point — or perhaps i just don’t recognize an answer that is staring me in the face.
  • Library books downloading to wrong file, can't get them onto computer
    After happily using ADE to load library books onto my computer for 2 years, I went and screwed it up.  I didn't have a shorcut to ADE on my desktop - the only way I was able to access it was to open Adobe Reader and then through the Adobe Reader "Help" menu, I could get to ADE.  Well, I got tired of doing that, so I played around with things and found a way to pull out ADE and make a separate icon on my desktop & start menu.  I thought everything was fine until the next time I tried to take out a library book.  Suddenly when I went to download the book, I got an error message & I noticed that the file name where the book was trying to load to had changed from "adobe digital editions" to something odd, like "ACS" plus some more stuff.  And it didn't give me the option to change it to anything else though a drow down menu or by browsing my files or anything.  I'm still able to get into ADE & use it for the books I already have downloaded, just can't download anything new.
    Is there any way for me to manually change it back to the correct file name?  Is it possible for me to fix this without uninstalling & reinstalling ADE?  If I must uninstall, is it possible for anyone to give me very detailed, step-by-step instructions, as I'm okay with the basics on computers, but not so good with stuff like this.  I'm on Windows XP.  Thanks so much for any help you can offer!
    Try just reinstalling it, without uninstalling, and see if that helps.  It shouldn't upset your old books and settings.
    As you are on XP, I suggest the slightly older v1.7.2.  (Actually, the new version has so many bugs I suggest the older one for everyone.)
    Download it from http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions/_jcr_content/main -pars/procedure_2/proc_par/step_0/step_par/download/file.res/digitaleditions.exe
    (see Adobe page  http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html for more details).
    Click the downloaded file in your browser (or double click as appropriate for the particular browser) to start the install.
    It will ask a few questions, just take all the easy answers.
    With luck, that will make the proper file association for .acsm files.
    If it doesn't, there is a chance that at least going through the rigmarole you tried above will now work.
    Good luck ....
  • HT2404 overdrive media console--where is my library book download?
    I downloaded a library book into a zip drive, according to my list of downloads. is it possible to transfer it to my iPod nano?
    Jeff, I'm pretty sure I activated Bluefire directly on my iPad.  Quite a time ago now, so I may have remembered wrong.
    Overdrive partner with most of the UK public libraries for DRM loans.
    I also only just realized Bluefire can download the .epub from the .acsm file, so no need for ADE at all.
    I don't usually use my iPad for ebooks (much too heavy), so hadn't really used Bluefire that much.
    I still need ADE to get the .epub so I can download it to the (Sony) eReader.
    Anyway, it looks as if original poster is happy
