Loading local video with Apple TV takes forever

Today i bought a film in iTunes store.
Downloaded it w/ iTunes - so i got i locally (got only a small bandwidth)
Then i tried to view that film using my Apple TV.
I can browse all my local media, but when i try to start the film from Apple TV it loads and loads and loads ...
When i start the film directly in iTunes and display it in Windows everything's fine.
When i try to stream it to Apple TV - using iTunes from my Win7 PC - nothing. It won't even start.
Equipment:
MS Windows 7 / 64
HD film
iTunes 12.0.1.26
Apple TV current version, up to date software
What's wrong?

If on wifi try ethernet
Go to netstumbler or similar to get a network report. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.

Since I started using the new version all videos take forever as well as weather maps, etc. It is as if they never finish loading. It also reminds me of my first internet connection in 1994 or so.

  • Upon bootup there is a loading bar below the apple logo- TAKES AGES!

When I turn on my macbook pro 13" 2.4 intel core 2 duo with *snow leopard* installed, i get to the normal grey screen with the apple logo and a new addition, a *grey loading bar below that logo*. This new addition is the bane of my life as it *takes 5 minutes+ to load* (this is approximate as i have not timed it accurately.
This never appeared the first few times id turned it on after receiving it for christmas '10. The problem means that I nearly never turn my mac off which is probably not the best thing but I cannot bear the loading time when I need my laptop to turn on at college etc... Any advice?
p.s I only created a new thread as when i searched similar problems, others also had side issues that the system didnt work properly or there were further issues after the loading bar.i do not have these problems, My mabook works fine once it is on but its the time it takes to get there that is not normal.

The use of Safe Boot mode should be ventured into with some familiarity; to
understand a little more about it. There are articles, documents, information...
(Actually, some of your Snow Leopard's slow starting is likely due to it's own
way of trying to negotiate past some issues it finds, in the boot process; so
that is why a +third-party disk utility+ may help, if a 'verify' of the hard drive by
use of your native OS X boot disc's version of Disk Utility can't fix problems.)

There are other levels of access into the system, but without
some background or understanding of Terminal utility and a
grasp or feeling/experience in single-user boot, the methods
used by this process are best for GUI access for this task.
When a user can't get into a computer this way, is where
other methods of access are essential; or better tools and a
good backup clone on external boot-capable hard disk drive.
You can find Console in the utilities folder, by using GO in the
Finder menu bar, and choosing Utilities (folder) to open; then
launch Console. Several kinds of logs are reported here by
the running OS X system; those pertaining to the OS X and
all of the computer's basic running would be first to look into.
There are error logs, system logs, crash logs. See what the
system logs has, especially for date and time of the problem
where the computer takes forever to start. There may be no
log reports at all; if the system won't write them on startup.
A possibility in Directory issues contributing to this slow startup
or some damaged system startup files, exists. So, troubleshooting
may include checking the hard drive with the booted install disc's
version of Disk Utility, to see if it sees an issue, and then if it may
be able to repair the drive's issue. (not a permissions repair.)
This can be problematic, do not actually run the Installer on the
booted (hold C key on start with Install DVD in optical drive) disc
since the options and tools available there are to be found in a
menu bar and that is like a regular application window. When
done, the way to exit Disk Utility, is quit; To exit Installer, you
use the menu bar options to get and use Startup Manager; in
which you can choose to start the Mac from its hard disk drive.
If the Disk Utility can't repair a reported problem, then it may be
something to consider the purchase of a retail third-party disk
utility, such as those named. And they do require some learning
to know what they can do, and how to make them work.
The visit to an Apple genius, may be helpful. To have a complete
backup of your computer, (a clone; see Carbon copy cloner, etc)
you can restore or run/boot the computer from, is recommended.
You should check the computer to be sure it can start up in SafeBoot
and also not have peripherals attached to it, while troubleshooting.

  • Why does do Apple discussions take forever to load on MBP compared to PC?

I am sitting at a lab computer (PC) and realized that my MBP loads discussions.apple.com super slowly. What's the reason? Is it Safari? Cause I find that Safari loads up pretty quickly, but once in operation, it's pretty slow actually.

I'm with Ian on this one. I use a PC at work and a MBP at home and when the servers are behaving, I see very little difference in page loading speed. The servers have been horrible in the past week or so, slow and going off-line quite often. They seem to be better yesterday and today.

  • Videos and you tube take forever to load and they are freezing up

why are my videos taking a long time to load, also on you tube?

Could be a lot of reasons.  The 3 main ones are...
#1 - slow internet connection or access- Speed Test
#2 - Your Adobe Flash Player Software is out of date.
#3 Using an outdated browser or one that constantly needs TLC.

  • Mac screens loads on startup with apple sign, then goes to blank grey screen.

    Hi there,
Recently I've been having issues with my MacBook Pro and what happens is the computer would freeze randomly, so I'd restart it. And when I do it would show the apple icon and blink and go to a completely white screen and I can't to anything from there, it fixed itself a few times after a while but this is just frustrating. I've started up, held the alt key, put it in recovery, but it would do the exact same thing, go to apple screen blink to a white page. So if anyone could help that would be much appreciated.

Did the blue screen have black vertical lines? Or a completely blue screen? If so, then you have the bad GPU that quite a few of us had. It struck me suddenly - My external monitor 'blipped' and I tried restarting but could only get to the Apple logo and loading bar until the blue screen would appear. I couldn't boot from any bootable device I had. even when trying Internet Recovery (command, option and R whilst booting) offered no help. I was able to run the Apple Hardware Test but it showed horizontal line in the blue text.
My only solution - as well as hundreds of others - was to have the logic board replaced. It's been almost 2 months now, and the board is still working: some, however, have had their logic boards replaced 2-4 times. The only 'real' solution (and cheaper than replacing the logic board if you're not still under AppleCare as I was) has been to go to third-party computer shops and having a new GPU soldered in with 'leaded' soldered (rather than the unleaded that Apple uses).
If I were you, even if you're out of warranty, I would take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run a free diagnostics check and give you an estimate for repair. I'll try to find the two threads concerning this problem and post them back here.
Here's the longest thread on the problem -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0.
    Good luck,

Had a problem today whereby I got the Error_status_code by trying to sign into my account. Re-installed my software and all was fine, except, it takes me now forever to sign-in. Has anyone else has the same issues with signing into the apple account but it takes long?

  • Firewire speeds and audio/video with Apple TV

    Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice regarding 400 vs 800 Firewire connections.
After picking up an Apple TV about 8 months back, I have decided to consolidate all the audio/video content on my wife's and my Macbooks.
Looking at grabbing a Mac mini and connecting a large hard disk via Firewire to that to store everything. I don't plan on connecting the Mac mini to the TV...will continue to use the Apple TV unit for that. However, while some some of the content will sync between the Apple TV unit and external hard disk connected to the Mac mini, I figure there will still be a good portion that would be shared/streamed off the external disk as it is viewed or listened to.
I currently have an Airport Extreme network, and I am able to share/stream video and audio from my Macbook to the Apple TV and it works great. My question is, when I add the Mac mini and start streaming/sharing off the external hard disk attached to it, will there be a difference in performance if the drive is connected via 400 Firewire vs an 800 Firewire?
I figure the wireless transfer between the Mac mini and the Apple TV would be the limiting factor, but felt it prudent to at least check if the Firewire connection would have an effect.
If not, then I plan on picking up a cheap, used older model Mac mini with the 400 Firewire port to save some cash. The machine doesn't need to do anything more than stay powered on with the iTunes app running and sending files back and forth to the Apple TV.
    Thanks in advance!

+I figure the wireless transfer between the Mac mini and the Apple TV would be the limiting factor, but felt it prudent to at least check if the Firewire connection would have an effect.+

No doubt the wireless transfer is the weakest link in the chain. Firewire 800 is substantially faster than 400, so you would gain some future-proofing by going with it. And the 2009 Minis come with Wifi-N, while the older models come with G/B.
A used Mini will usually lack the Apple warranty.
Minis are so handy that you have to ask yourself, why is someone getting rid of it? My somewhat cynical answer is that many Minis being sold on the used market are being gotten rid of because of some lurking problem issue that the owner hasn't been able to resolve.
If you must buy an older model, consider an Apple refurbished Mini, which comes with full warranty and current software.

  • Mozilla Firefox 7.0.1 is not loading web pages properly. It takes forever to load pages. Google Chrome and Internet Explorer load them rapidly. I have no spyware and disabled all addons. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions??

Web pages are taking an extremely long time to load. Sometimes they don't load at all. This is especially true with video sites like YouTube. I scanned my entire computer with Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, Iobit Malware Fighter, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Malicious Software Remover Tool, and Emisoft Anti-Malware. I did an anti-virus scan with Avast. I also ran CCleaner and Advanced System Care to clean all junk. Nothing is working.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running about 7 tabs open at startup, this has always worked fine, here is the problem and the sequence of events leading up to hope. Any suggestions would be appreciated:
    Background:
Mozilla updated me to 7.0 automatically a few days ago, no problems
Yesterday they auto updated me to 7.0.1, now it won't connect
Scaled back to 3 tabs at start now it connects but after a minute of so, the icon in the tabs just spinning and it isn't connected
Scaled back to one tab the same thing
Reinstalled Firefox, disabled the Norton firewall to test, same thing
Checked the application setting on the firewall, it is set to allow or auto
I downloaded Firefox 8 beta same issue
Any suggestions would be appreciated, not sure it is foxfire or not but the upgrade to 7.0.1 started
Anyway to go back to a pre 7 release?
I disabled the add on and have the same problem.
    BTW IE 8 works fine.
    Thanks

  • Fireworks 8 loaded pretty fast. CS 4 takes forever to load.

Why is this? I upgraded to CS 4 and it now takes a couple of minutes to load the program.
Any Jedi tricks to get the thing to load faster and thus prevent me from relapsing back into class A drugs?
    Thanks

I puchased CS 4 from Adobe as an upgrade. It's the latest version (10.03.011). Computer is a PC Intel dual core 2.4 gHz with 3 gigs of ram running XP Home.

  • HT5922 I can`t see the airplay Icon on my ipad when trying to wactch video with apple tv

I lost the airplay icon on my ipad 3 , can`t see the icon when trying to watch a video..The software on the ipad and apple tv2 are up to date and they are on the same network. Any solution to this problem? Thanks

    Hello jsimard,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215?viewlocale=en_US
If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Ensure that you have followed the steps in using AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring.
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon  , try one of the following steps:
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV, ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay.
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices. Some content requires an Internet connection to authorize content playback. AirPlay capabilities may be limited if your network is not connected to the Internet.
If attempting to use AirPlay from a third-party app or a website from your Safari app on your iOS device, confirm that the app or website is AirPlay compatible (refer to the developers of the app or website for additional information).
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Starting new client from scratch with large db takes forever

I found a similar thread on the forum but I think my situation is a little different. I'm using the pure C API instead of Java for example.
What I currently have running is a berkeley DB database with 7 million records. There is also a secondary database used as an index on a specific key. New records are inserted about one record per second on average. Records and keys are small, 20 and 120 bytes. The primary db is 750MB in size and the index about 500.
The master runs a 'master-db' process that owns the database and a 'server' process that opens the database read-only to expose it's data to a simple network service. I currently have about 1000 queries per second on this. It's implemented io event driven (using boost.asio) and uses about 10% CPU time on a single thread.
The slave runs a 'slave-db' process that is configured as a slave replica node. It also runs the same server process and deals with about the same amount of hits.
I'm really happy with this setup, it works well.
Except in one case: when I need to sync a new slave with an empty database. This barely ever works ok and requires many manual restarts.
What I see is that the slave tries to transfer two large sets of pages. One set is 180.000 and the other 120.000. I assume that these two are for the two databases that I have.
What happens is that the slave gets about 140.000 pages in less than a couple of seconds (gigabit ethernet) but then stalls either completely or gets the remaining 40.000 pages at a 1 page/second rate. I don't see anything that looks like an error in the logs. Also no queue limit warnings.
I've noticed two things that help: stopping the master server process (so that no updates are done to the database) or just manually restarting the slave a couple of times so that eventually gets all pages. Both are not ideal of course.
    Two questions:
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Are there alternatives to the initial sync? Would it be possible to for example rsync the main db home to a slave and use that as a starting point instead?
    S.

    Hi Stefan,
I recall that we talked previously about the "queue
limit exceeded" problem. But you say that is not
happening this time. I take it you installed the bug
fix patch? No I did not install the patch actually. Do you think it could be relevant for issues besides the 'queue limit exceeded' problem or was it a very specific fix for just that?
Are you still using Replication Manager in a 4.6
    version of Berkeley DB?Yes. 4.6.21.
    >
What you describe is indeed strange, particularly the
part where stopping updates on the master seems to
clear up the problem. I'll make a test setup and just let it run for a much longer time. So far I've been waiting and looking at database files to change. Maybe I've been too impatient. (I did look at iostat output to see whether there was disk activity though)
    Usually it's the other way
around: receiving an update from the master "kicks"
the replica into requesting any missing log records.
Can you post a representative sample of what the
verbose output at the replica looks like during the
time it's getting only about a page per second (and
especially what it looks like after stopping the
master updates)?I'll try, but the log files are HUGE and I will have to find time to analyze them really properly. So far I've only grepped for possible errors.
How do I identify the 'boundaries' in the log for one replication task?
    >
You can indeed do a "manual" hot backup if you want
to avoid the automatic internal init. See the
Reference Guide page entitled "Initializing a new
site."Hm. This looks good. I had missed that page. I'm actually more fond of this approach for my specific use-case. It looks easy to automate. If I can't figure out the real problem with the auto-sync then I'll probably switch to (automated) manual.
    S.
