Loading Logic Express 9 onto replacement MB pro

I've just had to replace my MB pro through the house insurance after a drink got poured over the old one!
I have a Time Machine so I'm guessing all my files should be stored but I'm wondering about programs like Logic Express 9 and Microsift Office.
I'm pretty sure the MS Office disk has 5 licences so no issue there but how do I restore Logic Express 9 as I'm guessing the Time Machine won't copy the program across, only the relevant files?!?

I was reading some more and kept having the same problem. I ended up re-installing it a third time, then downloading the update, and finally got it working.
Something just was weird with this.

Ok, I noticed that Logic Pro 8 doesn't appear in the store, but when you search for it, studio comes up. Has studio replaced pro? Cause I'm really thinking to get it, but I don't want to if Studio is just an in-between of express and pro. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can remember making the request to have Logic Pro and STP Pro bundled in a 'Studio' ap akin to Final Cut Studio and having my thread locked!

How do I load a .swf onto a flash pro file?

My class i'm taking right now is using Adobe: Flash Professional CC Classroom in a book, and there's a point in the lesson where you upload/load a swf file(s). Technically it's supposed to be multiple because its the outline coding for a website, but I'm not understanding this...

I know that I have to have the swf file in the same folder as the Parent file, and the name of the 'small page/file' goes in the url "" up there but what other connection am I missing?

Opening GarageBand project in Logic Express 9.

Just loaded Logic Express 9. Trying to open GarageBand project I get "Sorry, can't load this project because it is created by a newer Logic Express version. Please update Logic Express." I was under the impression that any GB project could be opened in LE9. Any suggestions?

You don't specify but have you updated LE to v.9.1.7?
Sometimes Logic can be a little picky as to how you open the song file, so if one method doesn't work, try another. For example:
1) Drag the GB file onto the LE icon.
2) Right-click on the GB file and choose "open with Logic Express."
3) Select the GB file from Logic's Browser tab in the Media window on the right.
I'm assuming that you already tried File>Open from the LE menu bar.
Once you do manage to open your GB file inside LE you will be required to save it as a Logic file.

Logic Express 8 Disc, updated to new mac with no hard drive? Can i download anywhere?

I spoke to an apple genius the other day and he mentioned that i could use the old mac wirelessly to load logic express on my new mac, without the need for transferring and using up memory on the new drive?

Opening Logic RPC 5.1 projects in Logic Express 8

i am helping a client convert from Logic RPC 5.1 on a PC to Logic express on a mac pro.
any suggestions on making the transition smooth? i've been able to open some files up, and search for the audio files, etc. but i haven't been able to get any sound out of the project yet. it changes the audio driver to core audio etc....
anyways any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Sitar on Logic Express?

Hi gang
Have invested in a Macbook Pro and Logic Express to replace an Advent and Music Creator. However Music Creator had a sitar. In spite of noises about the GarageBand string synth doing sitar, I haven't been able to find it. The last posting I saw, though I can't find it in this forum, is that a sitar sound is not possible with what comes with Logic Express, and they didn't know of any AU add ons.
I gather there is a world music jam pack but as I understand it that's purely loops, is that correct?
So how do I get an actual sitar instrument or effect? Suggestions??

Does it really honestly sound like a sitar? I gather that pack has had erm mixed reviews...
and in spite of talk in the help manual about the strings synth doing a sitar, and some talk elsewhere about an effect applied to a guitar, from where you're sitting the best option is the pack, is that right?

I have tried to load iTunes Match onto my computer but it tells me I have reached my 5 limit. I do not have 5 items however I did have one of them stolen. Please can anyone help me to find out what is being counted as my 5

Is pre-fader metering in Logic Express possible?

The manual says:
"Activation of Audio > Pre-Fader Metering ensures that the level displayed by the level meters is measured pre fader..."
But I don't have this option in Logic Express 7.2.3 - is this just me, or is it a manual misprint for a feature only available for Logic Pro?

Uninstalling Academic version of Logic Express

I have an academic copy of Logic express on my Macbook pro and retail version on my iMac. I purchased Logic Pro 8 upgrade and just found out I can only upgrade my retail version. Any ideas on how to uninstall the Academic version from my Macbook Pro so I can install Logic Pro on my newer machine? I have tried trashing(to uninstall) the academic version and using the "upgrade" install feature from my retail disk. I have done this twice and after upgrading from the retail LE disks, I still see the academic splash screen. I haven't reid, but assume I won't be able to upgrade since the screen still indicates "academic". What files do I have to remove to rid my Macbook Pro of its Academic license assumption.

So I don't REALLY know what I'm talking about, but my understanding is that when you install the Logic Pro 8 upgrade, you just need to put in the serial number of your Logic Express during the installation process. I'm just wondering if you even need to mess with trying to install LE on your MBP. What happens if you just do the LP install and put in your retail LE serial when prompted?
I'm curious to know, as I have an old version of LE which isn't installed, and I'm hoping I can use the serial for installation without actually installing LE on my machine.

Getting Logic Express 7.2 to read AU Plug-ins

I'm running Logic Express 7.2 on a Macbook Pro. I haven't had any problems so far, but recently a friend bought me Amplitube for my birthday and I can't get Logic to acknowledge its presence.
I installed the AU file, which is sitting in the library/audio/plug-ins folder. I've also used Logic's AU finder to scan my drives for it, but Logic never finds it.
Anyone have any idea why this is and how to get it to work? Thanks!

Is Amplitube a Universal Binary? If it's the PPC version it won't be able to work with Logic Express on your MacBook Pro. I don't know if Apple plans on doing anything about this, but unfortunately PPC plug-ins won't run in Rosetta in LE 7.2, although I believe that Logic 7.1 could be run in Rosetta and would support using PPC plug-ins.

How good is the music notation facility in Logic Express 9?

The music notation feature in GarageBand is frustratingly inadequate. For instance, using a piano keyboard it is impossible - as far as I can tell - to show notes below middle C as being played by the right hand. This means that some very basic chords appear in the notation as being physically impossible to play. For instance, if I play C1 & E2 in the left hand and G2, C3 And E3 in the right, the music notation shows the left hand as C1, E2 and G2. I can't stretch that far!
If I upgrade from GarageBand to Logic Express 9, will the music notation facility enable me to print what I play?

Not without a lot of trouble, and not in an easily readable way. E.g., if you put a quaver over two semiquavers (thats an eighth over two sixteenths), the quaver will be split in two, so you'll see 4 semiquavers, two of which are bound. Changing a note's staff is possible, but can lead to ugly results. Logic Express (and I think Pro too) doesn't have a ready-to-print scoring facility.
I can advise you to use Logic for recording. There you can edit it until all the notes are correct, and then export the midi file to e.g. the freeware MuseScore. That gives you great control over the score. If that doesn't suit you, you'll have to move on to Finale, Sibelius, Overture, ...

Can logic pro 8 projects be read on logic express 8?

I've posted this on the logic pro forum but thought should post it here too:
So a few weeks ago I went to teach a short one day course in Logic Express 8.... except I've only used Logic Pro 8.....mmmm
Anyway, with all my projects carefully prepared (without space designers or any non- Express 8 plug-ins) I copied my workshop projects onto the students computers only to find that the .logic file was missing. Eek! The iMacs we were using had Logic express 8 (not pro) on them but for some reason the .logic file was now replaced by a folder - which we figured out was actually the opened package of the logic pro file:
The folder was always called Lgdoc containing two files: display state & document data
I've managed to replicate this behaviour on my powerbook which has not got logic 8 installed on it.
Has anyone else come across this? Has anyone opened a logic pro 8 project in Logic express 8 successfully?
Is there a way to re-pack a file whose contents are being shown?

Logic Express 8 won't load saxophones

For the first time ever, I'm getting the dreaded error: "Logical end-of-file reached during read operation. Result code = -39". This error occurs whenever I (a) load a Logic project that has a software instrument track in it that is assigned to either the Tenor Sax.exs or Alto Sax.exs instruments OR (b) create a new software instrument track and then load either of those same saxophone sounds. The same saxophone instruments work fine when I play them in GarageBand, however. I've tried reinstalling Logic Express. I've also tried using known-good exs instruments from another computer. To no avail. What else can I try?

checked in the Logic Pro forum - maybe you should turn off time machine while running logic.
Another solution: If you can identify the exact file causing the problem, maybe deleting and reinstalling it from the Garageband or Logic Install Disk can cure the thing.
The samples are in library/application support/garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Tenor Sax.
The EXS file is found in Sampler/Sampler Instrument.
Also, repair permissions. May not have to do anything with this but is always wise to do.
