Loading offline files in Migration Workbench
Hi ,
I have got .unl data files extracted from Informix database.I want to load the data in offline mode in Workbench. In the Capture wizard,in the "Select source model metadata files" screen, when I point to the directory where I have placed the data files,it is showing the message as "No source Metadata files were found".
Can I get some help on this.
Thanks & Regards
Ramanathan.K
Ramanathan,
You need to read the users guide. I think its section 4 on on Disconnected source model loading. You need to run scripts for your db flavour that you will find in %OMWB_HOME%/offline_cature. This will create the files in the proper order and number that you require.

2008 R2/ Win7 Offline Files Sync causing High Load on server
Hi Everyone,
I have recently been investigating extremely high CPU Usage from the System Process on my company's main File Cluster.
We managed to track SRV2.sys Threads causing high CPU load within the system process, but was having issues identifying why this was the case.
As per Microsoft's direction via support call, we have installed the latest SRV2.sys Hotfixes, but this does not appear to have allivated the issue we are experiencing. We have also added more CPU and Memory into both nodes, which has not helped either.
We have since managed to create a system dump and is being sent to MS Support for analysis.
I have noticed the following that appears to happen on our cluster:
Whenever our CAD/Design department run certain functions within their apps running on a windows 7 client (apps include MicroStation, Revit, AutoCAD etc) we see a massive spike and flatline of the system process.
We found several users with Windows 7 clients that have Configured Offline File to sync an entire Network Volume (some volumes are 2TB Plus, so would never fit on a users computer anyway, i was quite shocked when I found this). How we spotted this was through
Resource Monitor, the System Process was trolling through all the folders and files in a given volume (it was "reading every single folder). Now, while this was the system process, we could identify the user by using the Open Files view in Server Manager's
Share and Storage Management tool.
I have done a fair bit of research and found that a lot of CAD/Drawing applications in the market have issues with using SMB2 (srv2.sys). When reviewing the products that we use, I noticed that a lot of these products actually recommended disabling SMB2
and reverting to SMB1 on File Server and/or the clients.
I have gone down the path of disabling SMB2 on all Windows 7 clients that have these CAD Applications installed to assist with lowering the load (our other options are to potentially shift the CAD Volumes off our main file cluster to further isolation these
performance issues we have been experiencing.) We will be testing this again tomorrow to confirm that the issue is resolved when mass amounts of CAD users access data on these volumes via their CAD Application.
We only noticed the issue with Offline Files today with trying to sync an ENTIRE Volume. My questions are:
Should Offline File sync's really cause this much load on a File Server?
Would the the size of the volume the sync is trying to complete create this additional load within the system process?
What is the industry considered "Best Practice" regarding Offline Files setup for Volumes which could have up to 1000+ users attached? (My personal opinion is that Offline Files should only be sync of user "Personal/Home" Folders
as they users themselves have a 1 to 1 relationship with this data.)
Is there an easier way to identify what users have Offline Files enabled and "actually being used" (from my understanding, Sync Center and Offline Files are enabled by default, but you obviously have to add the folders/drives you wish to sync)?
If I disable the ability for Offline Files on the volumes, what will the user experience be when/if they try to sync their offline files config after this has been disabled on the volume?
Hoping for some guidance regarding this setup with Offline Files.
Thanks in Advance!
SimonHi Everyone,
Just thought I would give an update on this.
While we're still deploying http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2733363/en-us to
the remainder of our Windows 7 SP1 fleet, according to some Network Traces and XPerf that were sent to MS Support, it looks as though the issu with the Offline Files is now resolved.
However, we are still having some issues with High CPU with the System Process in particular. Upon review of the traces, they have found a lot of ABE related traffic, leading them to believe that the issue may also be caused by ABE Access on our File Cluster.
We already have the required hotfix for ABE on 2008 R2 installed (please see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2732618/en-us), although we have it set to a certain value that MS believe may be too high. Our current value is set to "5", as that is the lowest level of any type of permission is set (i.e. where the lowest level of inheritance
is broken).
I think I will mark this as resolved regarding the Offline Files issue (as it did resolve the problem with the Offline Files)...
Fingers crossed we can identify the rest of the high load within the System Process!!! -
File server migration with Offline files involved
Hi,
We are planning a file server migration in following weeks.
This morning, our customer came with the good old "Ow, and I just thought about something else"
Here's the scenario :
-They are using 1 network drive
-That network drive is made offline available for all laptop users
-Those users are spread out in several country's. No VPN connection
-They are working for months on their offline network drive, right in the middle of the wood, no internet connection, it was already short for them to find power supply for their laptop ...
...nevermind
-The day they come back to the office, the file server to which points the network drives will be offline.
Now the 1 Million question : What happens with their "dirty" files ?
yep exactly. those they changed 6 months ago, have no clue about if you ask them but certainly will the day I will clear the damn cache.
My first analysis :
-The new file server will have another name, no alias or re-using the old name is possible (the customer don't want to)
-I can't tell to those laptops "hey for that offline cache, please use this new network drive"
So :
>> Those users have to identify manually files they changed while being offline, copy them locally on their machine and work that way the time they come back to the main office.
>> When they finally show up, clear the cache, offline the new network drive and replace file copied locally
>> If no internet connexion available in the branch office, let them work locally, it's still better than this hybrid-non-sense 6month offline folder "solution". If internet connexion is mainly available remotely, propose some Citrix/View/RDS
Setup which is, for me, a more professional looking solution
Someone has another (better?) idea/solution ?Hi,
I suggest you ask users to collect their laptop to internet, then start offline files synchronization on the old file server. After that, use
Robocopy to copy the date from the old server to the new server. As the offline files cache cannot be recognized by the new file server, so we need to synchronize data first.
If the older server cannot be enabled, as you mentioned, you might need to ask users to copy their changed files to the new file servers.

Mandy

I have transferred a load of files from my PC to my iMac using the migration assistant. The message on both machines say that the process was successful but I can not find the files on the mac. Any ideas?
When you use Migration Assitant it creates another user account and puts your files there. Please log out of your normal account and log into the new account. Had you use Setup Assistant when it asked if you were migrating that would not have occured. You have a couple of options, combine the two accounts (not recommended) or start over, use Setup Assistant and have everything in one user account. Here is a link to Pondin's guide for Lion Setup Assistant tips however if you want to combine the two accounts he has addressed that in

Problems With Auto Update of Migration Workbench.
I'm running v1.5.1 on MAC and am starting to look at migrating a MYSQL database to ORACLE.
I wanted to make sure I had the latest updates so I used the "Check for Updates" function, which showed there were two updates available.
Oracle Migration Workbench - Translation Core
Oracle Migration Workbench - Translation Sybase.
I'm not doing a Sybase conversion so figured I can leave that one alone.
I ticked the box beside the first option, and I got the following ERROR:
*An error occurred downloading updates. Click Back to return to the previous page and retry installation, or Cancel to close the wizard.
Seeing the URL, I thought I would try to download and install the zip file manually. I was able to download the zip file and save it to my local drive successfully.
However, when I try to install from a local file, I get the following error dialogue.
UNABLE TO INSTALL UPDATE
This update cannot be installed. It requires other extensions which are not installed, or which are installed but incompatible.
Extension: oracle.dbtools.migration
Req. Version: Min=11.1.1.54.44
Installed: Not Installed
After checking in the help About section, I see the following... I'm kind of at a loss for what to do next.
Thanks in advance.

SQL*LOADER/SQL usage in Migration
I have very limited migration requirements. I DO NOT need to
migrate a database. I DO need to change some SQL and BCP load
scripts from SQL-SERVER 6.5 to their equivalents in ORACLE 8.0.5.
For this limited purpose, should I proceed to handcode these, or
would the workbench be of use to me?
Thanks for your help.
nullThe migration workbench does, as part of the migration,
generate the BCP and SQL*Loader files required to migrate a
database. However, since you already have the BCP files created
then the Workbench would not actually be able to just generate
the other side of the picture (the SQL*Loader files). I can
suggest the following to you :
1. Perhaps use the Workbench to run a tiny migration that would
show you how we generate the SQL*Loader scripts. It is fairly
straight forward however we need to do some manipulation on
dates.
2. There is a chapter on SQL*Loader as part of the Oracle8i
documentation set.

SQL Developer Migration Workbench - Migrate only one Database?
Hallo!
We want to use Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench Early Adopter for migrate some Databases from SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g R2 (on XP SP2 SQL Developer 1.1.2.25.79).
The first Database we can migrate to Oracle. The Loader files in OMW are better!
On next day the menu capture schema was not reachable ( gray) . What can we do?
Thanks.
MichaelMichael,
<p>Have you seen the Getting Started guide? It looks like you have just started and not taken the next step. Once you are connected to your repository, select the SQL Server connection and use the "Capture..." option in the context menu for that connection.

Dear Oracle Migration Workbench Team
I have issues migrating blobs from Informix to Oracle. Our production table containing a blob is more than 100 million rows. During the offline load for a test table with 13,000 records, the load failed with message:
SQL*Loader-309: No SQL string allowed as part of PG_FULL_IMG field specification
Are you aware the offline load doesn't work or the HEXTORAW generates the above message? Is the fix going to available soon?
Also, the can the READSIZE option parameter be increased to 100MB instead of 20MB in future Oracle releases? I cannot load TEXT/CLOB when the size is more than 20MB. Any workaraound?
For online load, can I just do a load for selected tables only?
Thanks.
NormanNorman,
There is a script to help offline blob move to oracle seaqrch this forum for start.sql.
There is a bug whereby online BLOB and CLOB transfer mixes up rows Bug 4119713 this is fixed in the latest developers release 10.1.0.3 for migrating informix to oracle and will be fixed in the next production release for all plugins.
Also, the can the READSIZE option parameter be increased to 100MB instead of 20MB in future Oracle releases? I cannot load TEXT/CLOB when the size is more than 20MB. Any workaraound? It is unusual to have such large TEXT/CLOB sizes, can the READSIZE parameter be configured by hand in the scripts?
For online load, can I just do a load for selected tables only? After doing a migration and creating the tables without the data, the data can be migrated for individual tables using a right mouse click.

Turloch

How do I prevent offline files from syncing accross WAN
I have multiple sites connected via smaller WAN links (1.5 meg). I am trying to prevent any Offline Folder Syncing across the WAN.
When users travel to other sites there is an issue where their laptop wants to sync their MyDocs folder across the WAN. Since the user has several Gig of Data at the remote site this could take all day and can consumes all of our bandwidth between
the sites. This doesn't happen unless the users have their MyDocs folder set to 'make available for Offline Use'.
The users MyDocs folder is automatically redirected to a network file server at the users main location.
I have tried setting the Network Transparency to 64 ms (64) but that doesn't seem to help. Normal latency between sites (based off of a ping) is 75-100 ms (unless under heavy load).
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? I tried looking at the below technote but I couldn't seem to get a setting that made this issue go away.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff633429(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_EnablingTransparentCaching
Any help you can offer will greatly be appreciated.
Thank youHi,
The article you looking at is not for preventing the offline file sync. So what's your requirement? If you don't want the offline file sync, just disable the it in the sync center:
1. Open the Control Panel, click on the Sync Center icon.
2. In the left pane, click on the Manage offline files link.
3. Click on the Disable offline files button.
4. Click on OK and restart the computer(see screenshot below).
If you want to sync the offline file, the guide you refer is the optimal solution for you. Since your file is too big. However, I suggest you sync it completely if you really need it when slow network or disconnection from the Server. It won't copy
the whole file every time. It just sync the new version of the file when it checked the file has be changed.

How to load flat file in existing Architecture.
Hi everyone!
There is an existing architecture that I have to upload data into. There is a cube on top, followed below by an ODS and its update rules to the cube, followed below by an Infosource and its corresponding update rule to the ODS above it, followed below by a datasource (it says PC FILES(PC_FILE)) and its accompanying transfer rules to the infosource....
There is nothing in the ODS... No data. The Datasource says emmulated 3.x Datasource... (What does this mean?)
What I want to do is upload data via a flat file... Good BI Masters, how do I do this? How do I create a "dummy file" for upload? What are the specific sequence of steps that I need to do to load this flat file data?
Thank thank you so much!

I'm not sure what you are asking - is it how to load a file all the way to cube in 7.0?
From the architecture desc you have given, you havent migrated ur dataflow to new 7.0 dataflow, as you still have the update rules and transfer rules. So though ur system is 7.0, ur backend is still on 3.x, so the way you load a file is the same when your system was 3.x(before upgrade)
Or - are you asking the steps to load the file to a cube - no matter which environment you are in (3.x or 7.0)? if so, let us know .. and do a search on the forum for steps to load flatfile -

When opening these large files for playback, which have not been opened recently the player displays the loading indicator for up to 4 minutes! Once it has apparently been cached on the server it opens immediately from any browser even after clearing local browser cache. So a few questions for the experts
1. Why is it taking so long to load the file. Is it because the MP4 metadata is in the wrong format and the file is so huge? I read somewhere that Media Encoder records with incorrect MP4 metadata is that still the case?
2. Once its cached on the server, exactly how much of it is cached. Some of these files are larger than 500mb.
3. What fms settings do you suggest I change. FMIS is running on windows server R2 64 bit, but FMIS itself is 32 bit. We have not upgraded to the 64 bit version. We have 8GB of ram. Is it OK to set FMS cache to 3GB. And would that only have enough room for 3-4 large files, because we have hundreds of them.

Lead programmer, solid state logic incHi Tuviah,
You may want to email me offline about more questions here as it can get a little specific but I'll hit the general problems here.
MP4 is a fine format, and I won't speak ill of it, but it does have weaknesses. In FMS implementation those weaknesses tend to manifest around the combination of recording and very large files, so some of these things are a known issue.
The problem is that MP4 recording is achieved through what's called MP4 fragmentation. It's a part of the MP4 spec that not every vendor supports, but has a very particular purpose, namely the ability to continually grow an MP4 style file efficiently. Without fragments one has the problem that a large file must be constantly rewritten as a whole for updating the MOOV box (index of files) - fragments allow simple appending. In other words it's tricky to make mp4 recording scalable (like for a server ) and still have the basic MP4 format - so fragments.
There's a tradeoff to this however, in that the index of the file is broken up over the whole file. Also likely these large files are tucked away on a NAS for you or something similar. Normal as you likely can't store all of them locally. However that has the bad combo of needing to index the file (touching parts of the whole thing) and doing network reads to do it. This is likely the cause of the long delay you're facing - here are some things you can do to help.
1. Post process the F4V/MP4 files into non fragmented format - this may help significantly in load time, though it could still be considered slow it should increase in speed. Cheap to try it out on a few files. (F4V and MP4 are the same thing for this purpose - so don't worry about the tool naming)

2. Alternatively this is why we created the raw: format. For long recording mp4 is just unideal and raw format solves many of the problems involved in doing this kind of recording. Check it out

3. You may also want to check out FMS HTTP Dynamic Streaming - it also solves this problem, along with others like content protection and DVR and it's our most recent offering in tech, so it has a lot of strengths the other areas don't.

Error when using Oracle Migration WorkBench (Sql Server 2k to Oracle 8i)
I'm trying to migrate a Sql Server 2k database to an Oracle 8i schema using OMWB. After using BCP to collect metadata information on the source database, I tried to capture the source data model and got a "Capture aborted" message on the progress screen (even though then it appears a dialog window reporting "0 errors and 0 warnings", funny!). Down there is the error log OMWB generated. After reading some posts, I changed some columns of the OMWB dictionary that holds the source database name, but still got the same error. If someone can enlighten me on this toppic, I'd greatly appreciated it.
Here's the error log of OMWB:

Error when using Oracle Migration WorkBench (Sql Server 2k to Oracle 8i) -
A serious problem in Migration workbench - BUG!
When migrating a MS SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle
using Migration WOrkbench 2.0.2 I've run to a serious problem.
Capturing the source database went OK, then creating the
Oracle model started and it finished after some time, but -
after looking at the Oracle model pane I could see no
objects mapped!
SInce it looked almost impossible to get any technical
support I started to hack thru the Workbench repository
myself and found out that the objects were actually mapped,
but the user which owned them was not mapped to some reason.
Namely, when issuing the query
SELECT obj_owner, count(*) FROM om_obj_info GROUP BY obj_owner;
I saw most of the objects owned by the user named
'<DOMAIN>_Administrator' (that what was captured from MS SQL)
while the user mapped in the Oracle model was named simply
"Administrator". After updating manually the obj_owner
field for all those records with 'Administrator' I could
see the migrated objects on the Oracle Model pane.
However that way of doing the job seems rather owful for
me since I will be to perform migration many times for
individual objects - I want them to appear immediately, not
after hacking thru repository!
Who may help to find a GOOD workaround?
I may provide the export file of the Migration Workbench
repository if needed.Vitaly,
can you use the sp_changedbowner with the parameter "sa" if the database you are migrating is not already
owned by "sa". If this does not help you, please send the error.log file which can be found in the
%ORACLE_HOME%\Omwb\logs directory as well as a zipped version of the repository, if possible,
to [email protected] and we will be happy to investigate the problem further.

How to move offline files to sharepoint with same version history
Hi,
We have downloaded some of the file from sharepoint in our computer, now we have migrated the site to 2013 from 2010.
Can we upload the offline files to new site with version history maintained.
tks,
vidhuI am not sure you can do this OOTB, either you need custom development or 3rd party tools.
Please remember to mark your question as answered &Vote helpful,if this solves/helps your problem. ****************************************************************************************** Thanks -WS MCITP(SharePoint 2010, 2013) Blog: http://wscheema.com/blog -
Hi,
Is there any approved way to change the location of the offline files cache in Windows 8.1? I'm asking before moving client systems from Windows 7 where a registry change was required - is this still the way to go?
I believe that if the default user-profile directory is moved, this causes problems for updates to Windows 8/8.1 now, is the same true if you move CSC?
Just a bit of background. The systems I want to do this for have smallish SSD boot drives with a higher capacity spinning disk. The machines are members of a domain with Folder Redirection setup. I could setup group policies to disable
caching of some of the larger directories or even disable CSC entirely on the machines which have an SSD boot drive, but would prefer not to do so.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
According to your descryption, In windows 7, the tool is migwiz.exe, namely the Windows Easy Transfer, you can modify the registry in the way listed in the post below:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bbf5890c-b3d7-4b38-83d8-d9a5e025fb2b/how-to-move-clientside-caching-to-a-new-location?forum=w7itproinstall
In Windows 8, Windows easy transfer is also a built in tool to migrate user profiles and user settings, but as for the offline transfer, I suggest to use the USMT for your situation.
Because with USMT you can specify the folder that you want to migrate the files to, by using an offline.xml you can set the path just as the sample listed below:
<offline>
<winDir>
<path>C:\Windows</path>
<path>D:\Windows</path>
<path>E:\</path>
</winDir>
<failOnMultipleWinDir>1</failOnMultipleWinDir>
</offline>
You can also refer t othe details at:
