Loading OS 9 - It's never ending

The last few times I've tried to load OS 9 the loading indicator bar gets almost to the end, but not quite. It doesn't stop, either. It just keeps showing that it's loading.
I've reinstalled OS 9 from the disk that came with my iMac 5. Nothing changed.
BTW, it used to work fine. I can't think of anything's that changed.
Any ideas? I've got a photo disc and some fun games that won't work without it.

Ah, extensions conflicts. Boy, those were fun to troubleshoot. I jumped from system 7.5.5 to OS X, so there may be a more sophisticated method in OS 9 that I don't know about, but back in 7, you either ran a program like Conflict Catcher (doubt that would work in Classic), or just kept adding extensions back one by one till you found the culprit.
What programs are you running in Classic?

  • "Loading Accounts..." never ends

As System Administrator, I simply need to delete one user. After clicking on System Preferences, then on the Accounts icon, the Accounts pane does not pop up. The system just sits there showing "Loading Accounts..." Is there any other way to gain access to the Accounts pane?

Pondini....thank you! Your suggestion led me on a path that ultimately resolved my problem. Here is what I did, in sequence:
    1. Repair Disk Permissions -- Result: Many repairs, but my stated problem was not one that was repaired.
    2. Repair Disk -- Result: Same as #1.
    3. Brute force
    a. Made a new backup
    b. Booted from Mac OS X Install DVD
    c. Erased the entire internal hard drive
    d. Repeated b.
    e. Restored from newest backup, everything except the user account I wanted to delete in the first place.
    f. Booted from internal hard drive -- Result:
    (1) The user list was correct
    (2) Clicked on System Preferences, than on the Accounts icon.....and.....and....the Accounts pane popped up instantly!!
Thanks for leading me to repair the Disk and Disk Permissions, which fixed things I didn't even know needed fixing.

    Executing plsql_wrapper.sql
    loading sqlj/lib/dbwsclient.jar (about 5 minutes)...
    Loading plsql_proxy.jar......................
the execution process looks like stopped at this here and doesn´t throw any exception.
I´ll be grateful the soon answer.
    Rodius
anybody knows how long takes the proxy client generation process?

I have this issue also, with images from my D70 (~6 megapixels) ... no solution, except that when it happens, quitting and re-launching Aperture seems to clear it up for a while, at least until it happens again.
Given that you have almost twice the RAM and four times the CPU cores that I have, I suspect this is a software issue, and not one of insufficient hardware resources.  :-)

  • Safari 4.0.3 for leopard 10.5.8 never ends loading

Ok, so I had Leopard 10.5.7 and updated to Leapord 10.5.8 and when I did Safari 4.0.2 downloaded with it.
Safari 4.0.2 never ended loading its start page. So when Safari 4.0.3 cam out, I deleted 4.0.2 and downloaded 4.0.3. Still the problem remains. As soon as I open Safari, it starts loading and never ends (I waited 1 hour one day). When its loading I cant even use Safari b/c the beachball comes up. Though other applications like Firefox do work, even when Safari is loading.
    How would I fix it.
    Thanks for your help!

Is anyone else having this problem????
Does anyone know how to fix it? Having to use Firefox is getting annoying after being used to Safari.
If it helps, I have Windows XP downloaded on the computer using bootcamp but this problem started way after I started using bootcamp.

  • I am using I Photo 4.0.3. When I start it, loading pictures never ends and I cannot use I Photo; What can I do?

I am using I Photo 4.0.3. When I start it, loading pictures never ends and I cannot use I Photo; What can I do?

When did this begin?  Did you run any updaters just before this began and, if so, what were they?
That's a very old iPhoto version so give this a try:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down.
    2 - select Options #3 and #4.
    4 - Rebuild the library.
If that fails to help continue with this:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Suddenly never ending pinwheel and slower than usual

My macbook pro suddenly started to get slow and gave me a never ending pinwheel while only having Safari running. The mouse was working but no response when clicking. Only way to restart computer was by holding down the Start button. Restarted and this time the computer hang up when I tried to Log in (while writing Login and password). I mangaged to Log in two more times but I got the pinwheel again when browsing internet. Finally I managed to make it to Support/Community.. any idea what's wrong?
    Thanks in advance (: !

Print out these instructions and info at the links provided as most require you to be offline.
Do a SMC and PRAM reset first, then a Hardware Test
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If the hardware test gives any errors, note them here.
Check the time and date on your computer to make sure it's correct.
If your still having slowdowns, pull the power plug on both the router and the modem, connect the modem and wait a bit then connect the router. Reboot your computer and it should connect automatically to your wifi. See if your slowdowns only occur if connecteted to the WiFI or not, that way it can be determined if it's a internet issue or not.
(If your still having slowdowns, it might be because you have a Open Network on your router and someone is leaching off of it. WPA 2 with AES is the only secure wifi standard))
You can test your internet connection speed here, see if it matches what your paying for.
    http://www.speedtest.net/
IF your computer still has issues then:
Fish out the 10.6.x disks that came with your computer (grey) or the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk, stick it in the computer and reboot holding the c key.
(Make sure the disks are clean on the bottom, wipe with a very soft cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to clean and don't place the disk on a harsh surface that can damage the bottom.)
Second screen in, under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility, select your drive on the left and click First Aid, Repair Disk (please write down any errors this gives and tell us) and Repair Permissions (the results there you can ignore)
Do not erase or reformat the drive.
Reboot and see if your computer works, if not repeat the c boot off the installer disk again and this time skip Disk Utility and install OS X.
It will install on top of your 10.6.8 installed version (only, not your programs or files), which when finished you reboot and immediately Software Update to 10.6.8
This should take care of anything wrong with OS X itself.
Now to clean the caches of the user and other checks.
Download the free OnyX for 10.6 and run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects and reboot at the end of the tasks (you can cancel in between reboots) but reboot at the end of using Onyx)
Do all the checks it asks when it starts up and note any errors here they report.
Also under the Verify Tab is a Preference (plist) check, check the "show only corrupt files" and run that, make a note of all and any corrupt plist files.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Plist files are preference settings files that sometimes get corrupted and may be the cause of your problems.
If you have some, then you can look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for them and Trash them and reboot the machine and load the program responsible, the plist file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
The next thing to check would be your web browser plug-ins here
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
For Flash in Safari check here again as it's more accurate
    http://flashbuilder.eu/flash-player-version.html
Download Flash and install if it's not this version (latest)
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Silverlight here
    https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx
Finally install and run ClamXAv on your drive, this will look for known malware that might have gotten accidentally installed.
    http://www.clamxav.com/
Since OS X was reinstalled, along with bundled programs like Safari, this should only leave applications and users as a source of any infection.
If your stil having issues, then create a new user and transfer your files over and when up on the new user, delete it.

You should read up on Garage Band, I figured it out in 2 minutes and I don't really use that program.
You need to create a new software instrument and then use a midi keyboard or the software one provided. Hit record and hit your note, holding it down as long as you want.

  • Launching a never ending vi in sequence

    Hi!
I have a vi that can basically be represented by a while loop that never stops until i press a button.
I want to load and run this vi from a sequence without it hanging up that sequence.
Also, at the end of the sequence it would be great if it could end the loop in the vi.
For this last part I made the vi read out a variable in my locals and stop the loop as soon as it is a certain value.
(I think this is a good solution, but any suggestions are of course welcome )
For being able to run the rest of the sequence, even though the vi never ends, I was less successful.
I tried putting the vi in a subsequence and then running that subsequence in a different thread.
However, stepping through the main sequence, it does steps over the call of the subsequence,
but then the main sequence still freezes until i stop the loop in my vi.
What am i doing wrong exactly? Any help would be much appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Run Asynchronous VI basically uses a sequence call module with the "New Thread" option, but I don't think it does much more than that. I think you still have to do ExternallySuspended and/or Termination monitor in your vi. At any rate, I recommend against using Run asynchronous vi as there have been issues with using that step type (confusion over what passing ThisContext means for the most part). See the following link for more details about the issues with Run asynchronous vi if you are interested:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=330&message.id=28101&query.id=753835#M28101
As far as termination monitor not detecting whether or not the original thread has completed normally, that is not its purpose and not always what a user might want. For example, you might have a worker thread that you want to keep running even after the thread that launched it completes. There might even be more than two threads in the execution and the execution technically isn't complete until all threads are done, including the asynchronous ones. The purpose of the termination monitor is to give the code module a way to detect when the user is requesting a terminate or abort so that it can return and allow the execution to terminate or abort normally (an execution cannot terminate or abort while a code module is still running).
Like you are suggesting, you can probably pass in the original caller's thread as a parameter to the asynchronous sequence and your VI and call Thread.WaitForEnd on it with a 0 ms timeout to check if it's done in your loop. You need to make sure that you unchecked the "Automatically Wait for the Thread to Complete at the End of the Current Sequence" setting on the advanced panel of your sequence call step though or your threads will both be waiting for each other and never complete. Also the sequence view of the execution is likely to switch to your asynchrous thread at the end because it will be the last thread running, so if you don't want that you should probably just go with passing a boolean variable instead and leave the setting "Automatically Wait for the Thread to Complete at the End of the Current
Sequence" checked. Do not ever pass ThisContext from one thread to another though as that is the source of the problems people are having with Run VI Asynchronously.
    Hope this helps,

  • SOLUTION for the never ending reboot loop when charging

I used my iPad until the battery was completely flat, then when I went to charge it, it got stuck in the never ending reboot loop where it shows the Apple logo for about 30 seconds, then shows the home screen for a split second before shutting down and repeating the whole process again and again.
So here's what you need to do to fix this problem without having to restore or plug into iTunes.
    1. Plug in the charger
    2. When the Apple logo appears, unplug the charger
    3. As soon as you see the home screen appear, plug the charger back in. You need to do this quickly as the home screen only shows for a split second
    4. The loading wheel should appear and shut down the iPad
    5. Leave the iPad for a good 30mins or so just to get some battery life into before you start using it again.
    And that's it!

Figured I'd start recording the errors I get in the Installer Log:

  • Apple Hadrware Test never ends after ram upgrade

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 15" mid 2012 (not the retina) with osx 10.9.4.
    I recently upgrade my 4go of ram to 8go of ram (Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 2x4go PC12800 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9).
In order to test the ram I use the Appel Hardware Test.
Both mode, simple and extended, seems to be frozen and never ends.
I try to let the test works the all night and the all day but the test never ends.
So I decided to test my ram with memtest86 boot cd and everything seems to be ok.
The fact that Apple Hardware Test never ends trouble me.
Do you think there is a problem with my ram ?
Do I need to return my ram ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
We could discuss how you'd benefit from the additional memory, however, since the system isn't working, let's focus on the beeps.
When you start the system, it goes through some tests (called the power on self test or POST) before loading the operating system. If it finds any errors, it beeps, and the beeps are:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
3 beeps means it doesn't find any memory that passes the POST test. The fact that this started up after the service center installed the memory upgrade is suspicious, however, if it worked in the store then stopped working later, it may just be unfortunate timing.
There are some company's on the internet that claim they can repair the logic boards, otherwise, Apple's solution is to replace them. In the US, some Apple stores offer a 'fix everything' service for $350, which is less than specifically replacing the logic board - perhaps there is a similar service in Taiwan.

iOS 7 allows you to have your apps update automatically. Therefore, the list of what has been updated stays so that you can see what was updated, when and what the release notes say. It has been suggested that they list has a limit, much like Recents. Currently, there is no way for the user to delete the entries manually. Just try not to look at them.

I printed a 'preview' document and now it continues to print a never ending set of copies.  I have re-installed the printer software, but it still continues to print more copies.  What do I need to do to stop the document printing?

    Try resetting the printing system.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your printer queues again.
