Loading photos from camera to iphoto

I am having trouble uploading photos from my lumix camera to my mac.  In the past it has been no problem.  Now all I get on my desktop is the symbol that the camera is connected.  The symbol with 'no name', but usually it would then open IPhoto and load the pictures.  Now, nothing.
Has anyone else ever experienced this, and what can I do to fix it?
Thank you

What exact camera? What version of iPhoto? are you shooting RAW or JPEG? is OS X 10.6.8 as reported in your profile correct? What has recently changed? Will Image Capture (in your applications =folder) import them? If you can get them off the card then use the camera's format command to erase and reformat the card
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • After downloading yosemite, can't import photos from camera to iPhoto

After downloading Yosemite  10.10.1 to my Macbook Air, I can't import photos from camera to iPhoto. Had no problem before. It recognizes camera and says loading, but it never does load photos.

    That's the latest version.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Have you tries Image capture (in your applications folder)?
Will the camera mount to the desktop?
When did you last reformat the card?

  • How do i import photos from camera without iPhoto

how do i import photos from camera without iPhoto

You can import pictures from the device using Image Capture:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
If Image Capture does not open automatically, you can navigate to your Applications folder and open Image Capture from there.
Choose the location to which you'd like to import pictures.
    Click Options.
Click the Options tab if it isn't already selected.
Enable the option "Delete items from camera after downloading".
Note: Deleting photos after importing helps to reduce Camera Roll size, and it improves backup and restore times. You may choose Keep Photos if you wish to import the photos to additional computers.
    Click OK.
    Click Download All.
If you have Aperture, you can use it to import your photos. See the Aperture User Guide for more information.

  • New Photos Lost when Loading them from Camera to IPhoto

Heres the story. Have a new Powerbook G4, Fuji S7000 Digital Camera, and a Scandisk imagemate Disk Reader for my XD Card. I've used this camera / drive with my PC for a couple years with no issues on importing....but with my Mac, it seems that if I take a group of pictures, and then wait a day and take some more and go to import them are lost. The photos will show on the camera as being take as I always check to make sure I got the shot....but its happened to me twice on my honeymoon where i've taken about 10 photos, and plugged my XD card into the Scandisk reader to import them....and the new photos are GONE. The pictures I'd taken the day earlier are still there...but the new ones are no where to be found. When I remove the disk and put them back in the camera to see if they are there....they are removed from there also. Help!!! I've lost some amazing photos and am getting "spooked" about losing more or even thinking about loading them onto IPhoto. any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Bill,
Until you or someone here can figure out what is going wrong I suggest using Image Capture to download your images. I also suggest you not to use the option of having Image Capture or iPhoto "delete the photos from the camera after downloading" You should always delete the photos from the camera yourself after you have seen they have downloaded safely to your computer.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Can't get iPhoto'9 to load photos from camera chip

I can't get my iMac to download photos from the camera chip. The camera chip is a 4GB SD Dane-Elec HC. I am trying to load the photos using an IOGEAR external device.
This method has been working fine when I try to download photos from a 2GB chip of the same name. But with the 4GB chip, nothing happens

Likely the IOGEAR device is not compatible with 4GB (or higher) cards. Try another card reader or read directly out of the camera with the card installed.

  • Downloading photos from camera to iPhoto

Each time I go to download new photos, my iPhoto program wants to import ALL the pictures on the memory stick, instead of just the new ones. What am I not doing? What should I be doing? I don't want to erase the pix from the memory because I use them. But I don't want to re-invent the wheel each and every time I go to download. My camera is a Cannon. The Cannon software recognized the new photos and would ask me what I wanted to do. Anybody.....?
    radish

    radish,
It's been reported here by many folks that iPhoto 6 often fails to ignore the duplicates upon import from a camera.
Since Canon cameras don't mount on the Desktop, you can use a USB card reader. Remove the card from the camera, pop it into a reader, and it will mount as an external hard drive. If iPhoto brings up its +Ready to Import+ dialog, ignore it. Then do File > Import to Library, and a navigation window will open where you can preview the files on the card and select only the files you wish to import. It's similar to importing with Image Capture, with the advantage of importing directly into your iPhoto library. If you have a photo printer with camera card slots, it may be used as a card reader.
You are wise to not allow iPhoto to delete the photos from your memory card after importing. There have been too many reports of failed imports followed by total deletions.
    Regards.

  • Problems downloading photos from camera to iPhoto

All -- I'm running iPhoto 6 on a Mac Mini with the latest version of OS10. I have a Canon PowerShot G3 and shoot 4-megapixel JPEG photos, and AVI movies. Downloading photos from the G3 to the Mac is slow, and deadly slow (as is 15 minutes or more) when there's an AVI movie or two mixed in with JPEGs. I've had to abort several downloads when they just flat out stalled.
Today when downloading a total of 58 JPEGs and 6 AVI's I got an error message - "unreadable files". 51 JPEGS and 3 AVIs downloaded fine. 7 JPEGS and 3 AVIs didn't download. The error message says "The following files could not be imported. They may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data."
Any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.
    Greg

Isn't technology great? The more you learn, the more you need to learn more.
Have you viewed the iPhoto 6 tutorials? http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/iphoto/new.html The section on Organizing, "Add Ratings, Titles and Comments" could be helpful.
Click on the little blue i on the lower left of the iPhoto window, and the Info Panel should pop up. Select a picture, and it shows the info for it. Select a film roll's name, and you can see and edit the info for the whole roll. Click on the roll's title in the info panel to highlight it and you can type in a new name. You can edit the date of the roll this way, and it will affect how your rolls are listed in the library. The dates "from" and "to" are generated by the dates of the items within the roll. If you type comments about a roll they will be shown below the roll's name in the library when the roll is closed. I like to keep rolls that match my camera cards, but they can be very large. So I use comments to list the events contained in the roll, so I know which roll to open when I want to find a specific photo.
If you view your library in Film Roll view then you see the rolls' names with a little triangle to the left. As in the Finder, clicking on the triangle to make it point right conceales the contents of (closes) an item, while clicking on it to turn it down reveals the items inside the item.
Now the hard part - all those dates. If the dates and times are totally wrong, I would use iPhoto's Batch change to correct them. However, only iPhoto will recognize this date change, because it won't correct the real problem, which is that the EXIF info is wrong for those pictures. There are ways of changing EXIF info which involve downloading other programs, running batch changes, and re-imprting into iPhoto. I've never done it, but I searched the iPhoto 6 forum for "EXIF rename file info" and restricted by user name Old Toad. Try this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1734147&#1734147 and note Old Toad's last post about PhotoInfo.
If you don't mind about the EXIF, then you can just redate them within iPhoto. Select a series of photos from the same date, then go to the Photos menu and select Batch Change. Select Set Date. Type the correct date and give a time for the first picture. To force iPhoto to maintain the same order within the series, check Add 1 minute between each photo. This way, although the times will be wrong, at least they will have the correct chronological sequence. (Or type in the times manually after the batch change if the order is not correct.) I always do this with rolls of actual film I get processed at a store. The photo CD I get never has the correct dates or times, so I add these to at least get them to display in my library in the correct order. As far as I know, you have to run a seperate batch change for each date that you want to change to. Unless you have a series with one photo for each day and wish to check "Add X Days between each photo."

  • Unable to download photos from camera to iphoto

All of a sudden when I try to import photos from my camera to iPhoto it's as if iPhoto is not recognizing the camera. iPhoto doen't open like it usually does when I plug camera in. Any thought?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Your Signature says you are running 10.4.8.  Yet you posted to 10.6 forum.  Did you recently upgrade?  If not, have you installed anything new since you were last able to read the camera?  And are the camera's batteries fully charged, and the camera actually showing it is powered on?

  • Problem Importing photos from camera to iPhoto

Help. For a while I had no problems importing photos from my camera now I get the following error message:- /private/var/folders/CC/CC5eraW2GGCddoAX3DUGjE+TM/-Tmp-/iPhoto/PICT1015.JPG
Does anyone know what this means? What I have done to my computer to cause this? and how to fix it. Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Launch Image Capture (in your Apps Folder) and use it to move the pics to the desktop. Then try import from there.
If that works, then use your camera to reformat your card, and see if that works in the future.
    Regards

  • I have just upgraded my imac to osxyosemite but now cannot upload my photos from camera to iphotos

I HAVE JUST UPGRADED MY IMAC TO YOSEMITE AND CAN NO LONGER UPLOAD PHOTOS FROM MY SONY CAMERA TO IPHOTOS

To do this your device should be firstly connected to computer and iTunes is open. Put your device into dfu mode: 1.turn off your device 2.press and hold power and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds and release power and keep holding home until iTunes says a device in recovery mode. now should be able to restore.

  • Can no longer automatically load pics from camera to iPhoto

I am running iPhoto 5.0.4 and I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. Until recently I merely had to plug my camera into the computer using the USB connection to load pics. Now when I do it, iPhoto does not launch and better still, the keyboard and mouse ceases to function. Nothing shows on the system profiler as being connected. Camera (on PTP) or computer?

    Hi there,
I think what you're describing is due to the camera not your computer or it could be a bad slot on your computer, you can check this quickly by plugging in your mouse directly into one of the free USB ports and see if the same issues occur, if so, then it's your computer's hardware. Otherwise you could have a bad USB cable on the camera...

  • Can not import photos from camera to iPhoto

When I connect my camera to import photos, I get a message with a red stop sign that has an exclamation mark in the center saying, "The disk inserted was not readable by this computer". It then asks if I want to initialize, ignore, or eject the disk.
I have a Panasonic DMC-FX33 Lumix camera and it worked fine until I updated my Intel Mac Pro to Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09. It still works fine on my Intel laptop that has OSX 10.5.8 and iPhoto 6 (6.0.6).
Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

    That is a bit odd.
_Import all the picture off the camera using the other computer (you can transfer them to the other computer later).
_Using the camera, reformat the media card
_Take a snap shot and test with the new computer again
__If it works there was something off in the formatting of the media card

The folks in the iPhoto community forum wait for questions like this. In any case from iPhoto select your photos. Then select export. Navigate to your USB sick and that's it.

I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  I later sync my ipad with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files other than reloading all of them from camera?

    What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing.  Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card
