Loading programme without CD drive

I have Lightroom 5 on a CD which I loaded on my imac. I now intend to buy a Macbook Air, which doesn't have an optical drive. Will it be possible to load the programme online using the serial number on my CD.

Yes. Just download the trial version and install it. Then use your serial number to activate the trial version and it will be the full version of Lightroom. Actually, the trial version is the full version. It just as a time limit programmed into it.

I had Adobe 9 Standard on the old. But what downloads from the page http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-8-9-product-downloads.html is Adobe 9 Pro. Perhaps this Pro version is the problem.
Anyway, can you point me to a way to install Adobe on my new PC?

• SoundChannel behavior without audio driver

Hi,
I'm not sure if it's AS3 or Air /FB4 forum I should ask this:
I'm testing my air app on older notebook without sound drivers and problem is when I want to call SoundChannel.stop() function. Well I don't know what is the problem, I only managed to trace it to this line of code which calls stop() and now I don't know what to do since there was no error alert or nothing. Code just stops at this line.
I'm not even sure if it's problem with the sound driver.
I tried to look in google for answers and I found that play() function returns null when there is no drivers, but found nothing about stop() function.
Edit:
I've prepared sample application:

<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" creationComplete="init(event)">
<mx:Canvas width="500" height="500">
<mx:Text id="txt"/>
<s:Button id="btn" label="stop" click="btnClick(event)" bottom="0"/>
</mx:Canvas>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<fx:Script>

import mx.events.FlexEvent;
private var snd:Sound = new Sound;
private var sndCtrl:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel;
protected function init(event:FlexEvent):void
snd = new Sound;
snd.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,sndLoaded);
var url:URLRequest;
url = new URLRequest("df1_fi1.wav");
snd.load(url);
private function sndLoaded(e:Event):void {
snd = e.target as Sound;
sndCtrl = snd.play();
protected function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void
txt.htmlText += "before stop
";
sndCtrl.stop();
txt.htmlText += "after stop
";

</fx:Script>
</s:WindowedApplication>
Use any sound in place "df1_fi1.wav", export, install and lunch this app, then press the button. On computer with sound driver you can see "before" and "after" text on screen. On notebook without sound driver you can see only the "before" text.

Ok, I managed to install Flash Builder on this old laptop and debug this app.
Problem is that soundChannel is null on system without sound drivers. So every time I run sndCtrl.stop() there is a standard error of an empty object and system crashes.
I just need to make exceptions, like:
if (sndCtrl) sndCtrl.stop();

• IMac G5 education without optical drive, what can I do?

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead. It is very easy to open.
What was my surprise to see that there was no optical drive...In fact, it could receive one : the slot is there, the IDE cable too, the sloat-loading hole too, but...it is impossible to introduce any CD or DVD because there is a plastic and metallic band all around that makes it impossible....
As I didn't understand, I made a research on the web anf found out the answer....Incerdible! I didn't know that Apple had made an iMac G5 model for education, without optical drive : from outside, impossible to distinguish it, but when you try to introduce a CD or DVD in the slot, you can't!
So the only solution is to buy an external firewire drive?
I tried to see if it was possible to put out the metallic band to free the access for one CD, but it seems impossible! The metallic piece is riveted, or something like that....
Does anyone has tried something?
Thanks, I apologize if my english is not very good

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead.
I assume you managed to fix that "motherboard dead" problem, since there would be no point in installing an optical drive in a Mac that does not work.
If you can't get the slot open because it is intentionally closed, maybe you can get an external optical drive and stick something else into that internal space. For example, will it fit a 2.5-inch (laptop size) IDE hard drive for additional internal storage? Or you can get an IDE-to-compact-flash adapter card and give your iMac a solid state flash drive (like MacBook Air); CF cards are getting pretty cheap, even at the 16GB size, and you can get even larger ones for a higher price. Maybe you can even boot from it.
Just some ideas...

• Unable to load LabVIEW RT from drive

Trying to boot RT on PXI-8187 controller with original setup, what ever RT boot selection is used either hardware switch or BIOS RT boot option, the terminal will show the following:
Unable to load LabVIEW RT from drive!
Booting safe mode from ROM...
mount: Mounting /dev/Ma1 on /home/ftp/c failed: Invalid argument
Entering safe mode.
IP address is: 0.0.0.0
Of course after that you can't do any thing to configure the RT target from the MAX on the host computer.
Please Help.

Hi,
I used the recovery CD to change the file system to NTFS, it took a while and it installed windows XP from scratch differently from FirstWare that ghosts it (I think). And it didn't install any NI stuff what so ever.
At the end I got the same result as with using the remote system format disk option.
i.e. The RT controller boots in safe mode displaying the previous message without the mount error but this time I can configure the IP address.
Still I can't install software to it, I get the list of features to install, I select them and press next, then I get a dialog saying:
Cannot process install because other dependencies are required:
LabVIEW RT 1.0.1
LabVIEW RT 6.0.1
LabVIEW RT 6.1.0
LabVIEW RT 7.0.0
LabVIEW RT 7.1
Is this a host or RT Controller issue now?
What's next? Thanks for the help

• Reinstalling lion without wiping drive

i need to reinstall lion without wiping my drive because i haven't made a backup yet. how do i do this?
thanks.
carl

Can't you first make the backup?
Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

• MBP downgrade to SL from Lion without backup drive

Hi there,
I bought my 15 inch MBP only about 4 weeks ago with SL installed already on it.
Yes, I have made the mistake of upgrading to Lion and I have not made any backups at any point.
I am experiencing monitor crashes when I resume from sleep.
My MBP also did not come with a SL installation disc.
My question is simple - if I buy a copy of SL from the Apple store and install it - will it work?
Thank you.

As I answered in the other copy of this question you posted:
Purchase replacement discs from Apple: Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information. To contact product and tech support visit online support site.
Purchase a copy of Snow Leopard which may work provided your computer doesn't require a special build of Snow Leopard.
However, I suspect reinstalling Lion may well fix your problem:
Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. what i need to know now is if i can boot the powerbook g4 from a DMG file of tiger install disc 1 and install is to the target ibook through firewire.
You can't unless the PowerBook is running Mac OS X Server, in which case the NetInstall feature can be used.

I just tried it between a Power Mac G5 and a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) and it worked. The G5 was Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode. I started the G5 with the T with no DVD in the drive. I started up the G3, and the G5's hard drive appeared on the G3's desktop. I pushed the eject key (on the G5 keyboard) and the SuperDrive opened. I put in a DVD (the Tiger installation disk) and closed the SuperDrive. The DVD appeared on the G3's desktop. I restarted the G3 with the Option key held down, and the DVD in the G5 appeared as a valid startup choice."

Hi!

I think that does external optical drivers via firewire work?
Thanks alot!

Thank you for your reply, and the information. This is what I came up with:
I added the strings as instructed, however when I went to sign the script in terminal, I was told:
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all
In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
Also, here are screen captures of the lines that I added. Mine are the top string entries:
Thank you for your help, thus far!
