Loading Samples Outside Logic

Greetings,
I remember seeing a couple of posts where people mention loading their samples in some other program(s) so they can easily switch from song to song without reloading the samples.
I'd like to do this all on a single machine rather than loading the samples on one machine and triggering them from another (as in a giga setup)
I'd appreciate any advice on doing this - software recommendations, advantages and pitfalls.
Thanks,
MJ

Presumably, this means running your soft sampler as a stand alone program, or in another host. Then all you have to do is route MIDI to it (using the IAC bus) and route the sampler's audio back into Logic (using Soundflower or equivalent).

  • EXS24 taking ages to load samples in Logic 9

I think in the old days, there was a Project Manager to help reduce sample loading times.  Has this feature disappeared?  My sampler is taking 10 minutes to load a sample.  Once it has loaded once, and I quit and reopen, it loads instantly. Is there a way to set the folder paths and scan all in one go?
    Thanks in advance.

Here's how to sort out Spotlight:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    Click Spotlight.
    Click the Privacy tab.
Drag your hard drive(s) to the list.
Remove the item or volume you just added. (select and use the minus button under the list)
Spotlight will begin reindexing the volume(s) shortly(< 1min) after. The reindexing can take 5 to 20 minutes per volume, roughly, depending on the speed of of your Mac, disks and how full the disk(s) is(are).
Also, if you have a FAT32/windows/bootcamp partition, exclude that from Spotlight indexing permanently (=leave it on the Privacy list).

  • Why can't I load some samples into Logic's EXS24??

    Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with loading some of my samples into the EXS24. I am using OSX 10.3.9 and Logic 7.1.0. When I try to load a sample, I can see that it recognizes it, yet when I click on it the sample doesn't load. It doesn't even try to load, It just shows blank dots in the loading window. Can anyone help me with this? I have to have this to work for my job. Thanks so much for the input!
    -Matt

When you say you are loading a sample, I presume you are not trying to load a sample using the EXS24?
If you are, you should read the EXS24 manual, because that is not how it works - the EXS24 directly loads "sampler instrument" files only, and it's those that contain references to all the sample files.
So you open the EXS editor, create a new instrument, load your samples into that, save it, and then select your instrument in the EXS24. Long-winded, but that's how it works.
Or did you mean something else?

  • "Not Enough Memory To Load Samples..." hangs Logic

So I'm sitting here watching my life pass before me as the SBBOD spins and spins. This was the result of my loading an EXS instrument which, halfway through loading generated an error message, "Not enough memory to load samples...". When I clicked "OK" on that dialog box, the SBBOD appeared and continues to spin as I write this.
    And spin...
    And spin...
The song I'm working on has 30 active instruments, this one would have been #31.
Anyway, my disgruntled side is wondering if a professionally written application should actually hang upon determining that there isn't enough memory for an operation. Why can't it just have recovered gracefully? Helll, my Akai S1000 wouldn't hang when it ran out of memory... Meanwhile, my calmer wanting-to-get-back-to-work side would love to get some constructive suggestions as to how to prevent this from happening in the future (aside from turning on virtual memory for EXS, which is not an option for me).
Activity monitor reports that Logic is utilizing 3.06G of Real Memory, 3.51 of Virtual Memory.

Thanks Justin. Got any suggestions for an external app? This idea is venturing into virgin territory for me...
The issue, though, is not being able to know at load-time how much RAM any particular EXS instrument uses. It's possible to find out only afterwards how much it uses (by accessing the EXS Prefs panel and clicking on the Sample Storage menu. But doing that in and of itself is risky, as I've known this to also crash Logic). So really, I'd only know when to start using a ReWired app as a sampler after I crash Logic by trying to load up a "last straw" instance of EXS.
Hey, you're a programmer, right?! Could you write me a routine for Logic that would intercept the loading of a newly selected EXS instrument by first doing a calculation to see how much RAM is required by that instrument, and then reporting if there's enough available RAM to actually load it into? If there isn't enough RAM, the routine would then abort the load. Without crashing, of course.   ;-)
Whaddya say? (I know the answer, but I just had to ask...)

  • Loading Samples into EXSP24

Can anyone route me to a quick tutorial on how to load .wav or .aiff samples into EXSP24? Is this even possible in LE7 or do I have to use only the samples that are in there?
    Thanks.

    EXSP = Extreme Sample Player
Logic Pro comes with the "EXS" which allows you to create your own instruments via the EXS editor.
You can use the Redmatica products to create new instruments.
    http://www.redmatica.com/
or just update to Logic Pro 7 - which provides the EXS editor and a lot more.

  • Load samples to Ultrabeat from Finder broken

I cant drag a loop sample from a Finder into Ultrabeat. But when I select the folder in Finder Ultrabeat disappears. I'm in Logic 9. I like to load samples direct from the finder but it's not possible. Do i have to use the load sample window only?

how many computers can i load my downloaded logic pro on? and can i sell my logic 8... or do i need it?

This is the mainadvantage of purchaseing apps from the app store:
Go to the "App Store" app under the Apple menu.
Login with your Apple ID account (the one you purchase Logic)
Go to the Purchases tab where you find all the apps that you purchased with that Apple ID
Any app that is not installed on the current computer is ready for download
    Download and install the app
    Done.
    Hoe that helps

  • Crafting samples on Logic Pro

    Hello!
Just bought Logic 7.2 and made the transition from PC Cakewalk/Wavelab -environments into Mac/Logic. Everything is going smoothly, except I'm having big problems in crafting samples on Logic. I'd like to edit samples (.wav, .aiff, etc.) using the great mono/stereo audio effects available in Logic, but for someone used to Wavelab, Logic's Sample Editor seems to be extremely short on options.
If anyone has the time to answer the following questions, I'd be very grateful.
    - What is the best way of editing samples (or short audio files) on Logic that allows the most versatile use of Logic's audio capabilities, such as audio plugins? Neither the default multitrack display or the Sample Editor seem to be very effective for this purpose.
    - In the Logic environment, how can short audio files be easily lengtened from their original saved form, or silence be added to them? Haven't been able to find this feature yet.
    - If someone wishes to work his own samples, is some other program needed in addition to Logic (or am I just missing some great feature)?
    Thank you!

1)If u wanna use pllug ins u can edit the waht u wanna in "Real Time" And bounce...
    2) U can double click a region and that will open your sampling editor - there u can make all kinds a altereations - check it out
    3) You can do very limited editing in the arrange window -

Double click the region to get to the sample editor - there you can stretch the audio or make it shortet with the pitch and time tool - check it out - I would read about the sample editor in the logic manual as u go by and do it

I use Bias PEAK - it has alot of great features for creating your own samples

  • Why are there missing samples in Logic Express 9

There are missing samples in Logic Express 9. All the pop horn samples and some of the string samples as well as some others. How do I get them back?

That is a great suggestion. I DO have garageband installed also. When looking into the library there, I have a Sampler Instruments folder, in that is a few instuments (ie Grand Piano.exs, Hip Hop Kit.exs, Muted Electric Bass.exs, Rock Kit.exs, Steel String Acoustic.exs, Upright Jazz Bass.exs) and ANOTHER Sampler Instruments folder. And in that one, is ANOTHER Sampler Instruments folder, and that one is empty. Not sure if my screen grab will come through for you to see.
So there is not much sitting in the Garageband Samper Instruments at all. And the mysterious multiple Sampler Instruments folder train.

  • Feature Request: Ultrabeat: Load Sample auto copy file name to Drum Voice

Feature Request: Ultrabeat: Load Sample auto copy file name to Drum Voice
I wish that when I load a sample into a drum voice, that it would automatically copy the name of the sound file I'm importing to the drum voice minus the extension. If I were importing BD01.wav I'd like for the drum voice to display BD01. As it is, I have to import the file, then name or rename the drum voice to BD01. When importing large quntities, this becomes a giant pain, and I'm looking for anything programmatic that could save me a load of time. When I think of all the time I'm going to waste...and if you multiply that by all the number of users...that's a lot of wasted time.
I wish of course that the program could suck up and autoload all of the sound files within a directory, names too, until the voices were full. Then I could just fine tune and kick out ones I don't want or want in different order. Not a big deal for users who are importing from all kinds of different sources, but say for impoting libraries like NI's Battery, it's a big deal.
Maybe these could be choices in the load sample menu.

Microsoft pulled the plug on DirectSound HAL in Vista due to lack of hardware support. The SAL exists for
software compatibility, good intention but bad performance as there is no longer a direct path from
    DirectSound to audio drivers.
People choose DirectSound for its Direct-ness
but there is no reason to choose it now.
    DirectX SDK was integrated
with WIndows SDK which ships with Visual Studio 2012 so you don't need additional downloads for
    WASAPI and XAudio 2.
Just look up the documentation for headers/librarieslike every other Windows API you use. If you have a hard time to find the documentation then you need to go to search engines and find search engine tutorials.
There are plenty of samples for both WASAPI and XAudio 2, both in the Windows SDK and online. The DirectX team has some suggestions on which to use on their team blog.
You can find experts for those APIs at the Windows Desktop Pro-Audio Application Development forum and the
Audio/XACT forum on MSDN (link left out for you to practice your search skills). Again, it is fine to ask for hints but don't ask the whole
solution. You are competing with others who just need a hint to finish work here. The time spent on working on your assignment would be better spent on helping on giving hints to others.

  • Importing/loading samples into Ultrabeat

My plug-in reference seems to be unaccurate or either I do not fully understand this procedure...How is this done exactly?..Also, what type of file is compatible with Ultrabeat?
    Thanks
    Mr.P

Each voice in Ultrabeat consists of (up to) 2 oscillators and a noise source.
Select whatever voice location you want to load a sample into, turn off oscillator 1 and the noise, and on oscillator 2 select "Sample" which turns that oscillator into a sample playback oscillator. Then use the load button in oscillator 2 to load in whatever sample you want to playback.
If you want to create your own kits, it makes sense to have a default kit to start from, in which all voices are set to sample playback with sensible default values (such as pitch = 0 etc), so you can just load samples into each voice and save the kit under a new name when you are done.

  • EXS24 loading samples become one semi tone lower than assigned key

When I load samples into a new instrument as a zone by dragging them to a key, somehow they become assigned to the adjacent key, one semi tone lower than the note. Eg: I put a sample on C2, when I hit the keyboard it is tiggered by B1. How to resolve this ? Is there a setting somewhere ? It certainly does not appear to have any thing to do with my 'mother' keyboard (M-Audio Ozonic).
Thanks for any insight into this issue

  • Loading Samples Into EXS24

I have many cd's with .wav samples that I would like to load into the EXS24. Can someone give me STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to get these into the folder they should be in so the EXS24 can read and load them...or any other possible solution for playing these sounds. Also, instructions on loading samples into Ultrabeat would be greatly appreciated...!!!!
    G5 Dual 2.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Create an EXS24 track/instance
Open EXS Inst editor (from audio menu)
    Instrument>New
    Name/save to
Select this inst in the EXS24 plugin
Drop your files on the EXS Inst editor keyboard, save, continue editing
Make sure your audio files are in the directory you want them to be referenced from... or use Project Manager to move them.
Ultrabeat supports drag + drop too. Under Osc 1, hit sample and drag+drop on the box. There are many settings so... the volume and effects may come in to play.
