  • Hard-Drive not Detected load sata drivers

Hi everyone I have a G6-1189sa notebook, I had a faulty harddrive so replaced it with the exact same drive 750GB WD, Thing is I could not save anything from the original drive ? so no recovery partitions are anything I even lost all my family photos and software.
Ok so I done a straight swap over and went ahead installing my fresh Windows 7 x64 disk, then I got an error message saying no device detected please install driver etc etc.
I know I need to install the sata driver for the harddrive to be detected, so I extracted the HP sata control driver to a USB pen the tried to load the driver, with the load driver option on the install disk.
Error message saying driver is not signed !!!!   So after some reading on google I learned I had to disable the naitive sata option in the bios settings for the harddrive to be detected.
Thing is there is not a option for this in my bios ?  unless Im missing something like an advanced bios setting.
I even went to the Intel site and tried some of there drivers but I get the same error message driver not signed.
So my question is ? how can I disable the native sata option if Its possible , If not how can I load the HP sata driver if its not signed.
Its very anyoing someone even said I have to slip the drivers in and make a new home made W7 disk myself to get my pc working again what the hell, where would I start.
Maybe I should put the laptop in the post and send it back, Ive never had so much trouble before making simple memory and harddrive exchanges.
Any advice please people Im at my wits end, my laptop is only a few month old and its now a door stopper lol

    Hi,
Boot into the bios and be sure that the hard drive is detected.
Sata drivers are included in Windows 7.
Return the bios to its default settings and use the HP Recovery Disks.  If you don't have the Recovery Disks then order them from HP. Order HP recovery Disks.

  • K7N2GM-V SATA Drivers

Purchased the subject MB and am atttempting to install XP to a WD 80gb serial harddrive.  OS install states I must load SATA drivers however I can't locate any such animal.
Where do I find the drivers?  Hard drive is a Western digital WD800JB if that matters.
Also is there anything special I need to do to make HD the boot drive?
    Thanks  M Bruns

Your mobo should come with the SATA drivers (if it's an MSI mobo, of corse).
Usually, it comes on a floppy disk.

  • Can SATA drivers be loaded in windows????

    Hi,
I forgot to click on F6 when loading windows XP to install my SATA drives.  How can that be done now that XP has been installed?
I also have drive letters all over the place.  HD1 is I and HD2 is J.  I think I can change them in system maint.
    Thanks,
    Swen

    Hello Swen,
Glad to see you made it back to this forum after the database program they experienced last night. Tried to send you a personal message this morning but you were not even in the database anymore. Hope you got my last message.
You do not need to install SATA drivers with F6 during windows installation. The F6 step described in your manual is only needed if you intend to install your operating system to a SATA drive or a RAID set up. If your operating system is being install to IDE drive then your SATA driver can be installed later on after you  got windows on board as part of the Nvidia 5.10 drivers package. If you are really intending to install your operating system to a SATA drive then go to this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=76886.0
If not, you will have windows XP set up, goto device manager  and then left click on + sign in front of "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" & then right click on "Nvidia nForce4 Serial ATA controller" & then select properties. In the new windows that opened select the driver tab. This will list what you have installed as a SATA driver.
Whatever you do make sure that you get the latest Nvidia 5.10 drivers package from the Nvidia site itself. I believe that MSI site still only offers version 5.03.
For your drive letter question simply click on start and then "Help and Support". When help and support windowns opens up, type this in the search window and then press the search arrow: "assign change or remove a drive letter". You can then look at the left hand result window and select "assign change or remove a drive letter". The right hand pane will now offer you two methods to use to proceed:
    1- Windows interface
    2- Command lines

  • Equium P200-1ED Installing Windows XP Problem - SATA Drivers

I have just bought a Toshiba Equium P200-1ED laptop with Vista installed and want to install my copy of Windows XP Pro. This is the latest disc with SP2 included.
When I boot up it does not recognise the hard drive. I assume I need to download these drivers and load them onto a floppy and hit F6 when the windows setup screen prompts me to do so.
    Questions are;
    1) Where can I get these drivers from?
    2) Will the machine recognise a USB floppy Drive?
    3) Am I right about what I need to do?
    Thanks in advance for your help. :8}

How to install XP Home on the following Vista laptop. 05/01/08
    Toshiba Equium A200-1V0 PSAF5E
    Introduction
These are the steps taken by us to remove Vista from our Toshiba laptop and replace it with XP Home. There may be inconsistencies in our methods and we may not have all of the exact drivers installed, but everything appears to work OK for us.
Our laptop now runs much faster, opens and closes faster and is more stable.
This is not a 5 minute operation. It should not be attempted by anyone with only a passing knowledge of computers as it is very easy to screw things up. The shop you bought your PC from will charge a lot to fix things and they will probably insist on re-installing Vista!!.
Be prepared that this will also probably invalidate your warranty.
Luckily, I have a 2nd PC running XP that allows me to access the web. This is very useful as it means that while your Vista machine is 'broken' you can still search for help and download driver files. I also used my 2nd PC to create the modified XP installation CD mentioned further on.
You must have access to the web via some PC or other to get the required drivers.
    Method
Firstly, while you still have Vista on your laptop machine, download and run an interrogation program such as 'Belarc advisor' which will list all the drivers and software that are installed on your laptop. Print it out for future reference. This may be useful later when searching on the web for any drivers that may need updating.
Now, make sure you have noted down all the required settings for your Internet connection.
Also, backup any files that you may have placed on the hard drive as you will lose the lot including any emails and address books and web favourites etc.
Unfortunately, the Toshiba disc that comes with this laptop does not appear to have any of the required drivers with it. Instead, I think that it relies on Vista keeping copies on your hard drive. This is not very bright as when the hard drive fails you have lost everything!
This therefore means that you have to go on the web and search for all the required drivers to run XP successfully.
Some we could not find, for example the Wireless network adapter, however this was no problem as once we had installed XP and connected to the web via the Ethernet cable to our Router we were able to run 'Update Driver' for each item missing.
Go to 'Device Manager' via 'Control Panel' then 'System' then 'Hardware'. Then look for any yellow question marks for any problems. Right click and run 'Update Driver' for the hardware update wizard and allow the PC to look on the web 'this time only'.
The ones we did this way were: Wireless adapter, Audio adapter.
Unfortunately an original XP SP2 CD does not contain the required drivers for this laptop. Therefore when you boot the CD it will, after a few minutes of installing files, say that you have a hardware problem as there are no drives present.
To rectify this, you will need to download the correct Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller drivers. I couldn't find this on the Intel website, but instead searched on Google for it. and got it from: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
The other required drivers that we found on the web were:
    Intel chipset device software installer
    Web page
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=816&DwnldID=14528 &strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
    http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-021273.htm
Select 'Download Intel chipset software installation utility' on the left hand side and select your operating system 'XP Home'
Select 'INF Update Utility - primarily for Intel 3, 900 series chipsets'
    and download it.
Intel graphics driver: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset
    Web page
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2800&DwnldID=1438 8&strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Home%20Edit ion&lang=eng
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
    http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/
Now select 'software and drivers' on the left hand side and select your operating system 'XP Home'
You will be presented with a list of files.
Select Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe)
    and download it.
    Marvell Yukon Ethernet Driver
    Web page
    http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
    http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do?reload=false
    On the right hand side, select 'W2000/ XP/2003/Vista x86 & x64 Multi-Language Installer (32-bit and 64-bit) for Yukon Devices'
    Creating the XP Drivers disc
Add the SATA drivers to a copy of your XP install CD using a program such as NLite.
You will need enough spare hard drive memory to take a copy of your XP install CD (approx 700MB).
Run the program 'sp37005.exe' and it will install to your hard drive. Don't install to a floppy.
    Download 'NLite' from: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
When you run NLite it will probably say that you need to install '.net Framework', if so, quit NLite and go and find the program. This is a Microsoft program that you can find by searching on Google for the relevant page on the Microsoft website.
Now place your XP install disc in your CD drive, if it autoruns, exit it.
Then run Nlite and follow on screen instructions.
The program will ask where your XP disc is then it will ask where you want to save the copy.
On the 'Task selection' screen select 'Drivers' and 'Bootable ISO'. then press 'Next'.
Now select 'Insert' then 'Multiple Driver folder' and go and find your downloaded SATA driver files. Now select 'All' and 'OK. The program will list the available SATA drivers. Only select the two that mention 'ICH8M'. Now press 'Next'. The screen will show the selected drivers. Press 'Next' again and then 'Yes' to the prompt, and then 'Next' when done
You are now presented with the 'Bootable ISO' screen.
Put a new burnable CD in your CD writer, wait for it to be recognised and exit any window that might pop up to allow you to install files
Now, in Nlite, under 'Mode' select 'Direct Burn'
Under 'Label' enter something like ' XP for Toshiba Equium A200' to identify the disc.
Leave Advanced settings alone and now add in the other required drivers by clicking explore and copying them to the root directory of the temporary XP directory on your hard disc. It might be best to create a 'Drivers' folder in the root directory to make them easy to find later.
Now click the 'Burn' button. Now follow the rest of the instructions to complete.
You have now created an XP install disc which contains your required SATA drivers.
-As you can tell, this is quite convuluted but avoids you having to buy a USB floppy drive and it provides a neat solution.
    Hasta La Vista!!
Now you are ready to begin the cleansing process, if you are brave enough to continue....
Firstly, re-boot your laptop and while booting press F12 to change the boot order so that the DVD/CD ROM is first. Alternatively use F2 and then change the Boot order from there.
Now insert your new XP install disc in the DVD/CD drive and re-boot the PC, selecting boot from CD when prompted.
The XP CD will now start copying files and eventually will display an options screen
    Select to install Windows.
Then delete the C: hard drive partition (with Vista on)
Delete the F drive partition used by Vista also.
You will have to follow lots of warning prompts to delete the partitions.
Now follow the instructions to create an NTFS partition on the C drive.
    Now install XP as instructed.
Don't worry that the graphics are a bit chunky as once Windows has finished installing you can run the graphics driver you copied to the the XP CD to correct this.
    Run the three driver files:
    win2k_xp14311.exe Intel graphics driver
infinst_autol.exe Intel chipset software installation utility'
    setup.exe Marvell Yukon Ethernet Driver
Your graphics should now improve and you should now be able to connect to the web (after running the web setup wizard). But don't do this until you have installed your Antivirus and Firewall software.
Now go to 'Device Manager' via 'Control Panel' then 'System' then 'Hardware'. Then look for any yellow question marks for any problems. Right click and run 'Update Driver' for the hardware update wizard and allow the PC to look on the web 'this time only'.
Hopefully, everything should now run OK.
Now go and have a drink to celebrate!

  • Installing Windows XP professional and F6 (3rd party SATA drivers)

Forgive me if this is answered somewhere. I found a posting that was close but not quite the same, or maybe it is. This is  my first system I have put together so please excuse the newby status.  I am Using the K8T Neo2  motherboard (Via Tech VT8237 SATA) and the AMD 64 bit 3500+ chip. I have hooked up 2 Seagate 120 Gb  Serial ATA hard drives. Also have a Sony DVD r/w drive and a 3.5 " floppy and they all seem to show up in the setup menu.
When I try to install the operating system (Windows XP professional) and the bottom  of the screen says, press F6  for third party SATA drivers I press F6 and it does nothing but continue to load windows files up to the point when it does not recognize a hard drive and I have to exit with F3. Can anyone help???????? What is the possible reason hitting F6 does nothing, I have rebooted and tried several times. I cannot get to the point to choose the third party SATA driver. This is getting very frustrating...... Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hm...this is kind of a longshot, but you're not using the "Logitech Elite" keyboard ( http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=23-126-114&depa=0 ), are you?  This keyboard has an annoying feature called the "F-Lock" because Logitech decided to apply custom functions to the various F-buttons (an okay idea in and of itself), and then foolishly decided to set the custom functions as being the default behavior of the buttons, so that the only way pressing "F6" actually causes the F6 keystroke to be sent is if the F-lock is enabled (which is extremely stupid...the keys should send the normal F-commands with the lock off, and having the lock on should enable the custom commands).  If you have this keyboard, then just enable the F-lock and try again and it should work.
...if you have some other keyboard, then the above suggestions are good...always mash the hell out of F-buttons, and if it's a USB keyboard that isn't working right, try a PS2 keyboard.  You might also be able to affect things by enabling "USB Legacy" support in the BIOS, though take note that having this enabled may cause your system to become unbootable (until the setting is turned back off).

  • Storage management Sata Drivers

    Hi,
I installed xp on lenovo g550 by switching to IDE mode, after that i installed all sort of drivers iincluding sata drivers for sata channels, but when I switch back to AHCI mode & boot, Os will not load, Only blue screen comes & laptop restarts & this will continue till I again switch back to IDE mode.
Can Any one help how  to configure sata drivers & boot into ACHI mode?
    Thanks

Download AHCI drivers from Intel here.
Than, manualy istall it from device manager, under IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers. Search something like "Intel ICH9 port Serial ATA Storage Controller". In one of next screens select "Dont search. I will choose the driver to install" and select path to unpacked driver. Choose the correct AHCI driver for your controller. After this, restart your operating system, enter bios, select AHCI mode for SATA controller and boot into OS.

  • Floppy sata drivers needed

Guys, need drivers for loading to a single WD Raptor drive during Installation (as a single S-ATAdrive) of W XP pro (hit F6 key, load drivers)
Got a OEM board from Ebay no software included and aren´t bright enough to find them on MSI tws homepage can only find drivers in bundle packages, as far as I know they are supplied as a bootable floppy disc with the full retail version of this board 875 NEO-FIS board.
Would really appreciate the help, e-mail to: [email protected]
    Regards!

You don't need SATA drivers to install windows----only if you are making an SATA RAID configuration with more than one SATA drive, and that doesn't sound like you are doing that.  However, you do need to configure the BIOS correctly so that your SATA drive is recognized.  Make sure the SATA drive is enabled (look around in BIOS, I can't remember off the top of my head exactly where it is).  Here are the proper settings, which I lifted from the FAQ on the first page of this forum:
For Native Mode: (You want to choose NATIVE, not legacy)
ATA Configuration: SATA Only or PATA only, depending on which you want to be the FIRST BOOT device!
S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose PATA only
P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose SATA Only
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: PATA First/SATA First, depending on which you want to act as 1st Channel.
S-ATA Ports Definition: - P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th, depending on which you want to act as Master.
However, there are some other things you're gonna need if you got an OEM board with no drivers.  Please note that both of the following links provide more recent and updated versions of drivers than are provided by the MSI download page.
    Go Here:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=44&strTypes=DRV%2CARC%2CUTL&ProductID=1043&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&submit=Go%21
This page has links for all the Intel 875p stuff you might need.
You will need to download and have ready the program from link #1, which should be the first thing you run after you complete the Windows install.  YOU MUST DO THIS for the board to operate correctly.
You will also need network adapter drivers for the Intel Pro-1000, which can be found here:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/proc/T8Clearance.asp?sType=&agr=Y&PrdMap=&ProductID=871&url=/4233/eng/PRO2KXPM.exe
Hope this helps.  Let us know how it goes.

  • Tip for Loading Promise Drivers

I've been working on my new KT6 Delta FIS2R machine and experiencing a real problem regarding the Promise drivers into Windows 98. Whenever I would load the Promise drivers and reboot, Windows 98 would hang in DOS Mode after the Windows Splash went away. As I noted in a previous post, I tried all sortrs of tricks, including copying only the Win 98 drivers onto a floppy and loading from it. Nothing worked. Every time the system hung after loading the Promise drivers, rebooting in Safe Mode would allow me to remove the Promise drivers, but the process always screwed up Windows initiation, and I always had to reformat thge disk and do a fresh install from scratch.
Finally, I decided to do something really different. Instead of just going down the menu of the MSI install disk, starting with the Via 4-in-1 dreivers, going on to the USB's, etc., I tried loading the Promise Drivers before anything else, even the 4-in-1's; and, voila! The Promise drivers loaded and the system reboots fine.
Since I had had some fleeting difficulties, sometimes, loading the Via SATA drivers, I selected that item second, and thgey loaded fine, also.
So, if the Promise drivers are giving you problems after loading, try loading them absolutely first into a new install of Windows.

BTW, I have also been having a problem on the same machine, installing the drivers for a Linksys PCI wireless network card. I would get a error message that one of the DLL's that Linksys provides couldn't be loaded by the application when I clicked on it. So, I installed the Linksys software third; and, everything went fine.
I can't say for sure, but I suspect that all of this relates to some subtle conflicts with the 4-in-1's, which, BTW, loaded fine as the 4th item in the sequence.

  • Olympic Medals, Sata Drivers and Rebuilds

    Hi all,
    Background:
I posted a while ago (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=54413&hilight=fizz) about my hard drives being so unbelievably mashed that I couldn't even load the recovery console ... Bas said it may have been an "NTFS bug", although I don't quite understand what that means
    * tried CHKDSK from WinME Boot Disk .... typed
chkdsk c: /f         ///didn't do anything, just listed a lot of "volumem label" information and terminated ... does WinME's Boot Disk not recognise NTFS?
    * tried CHKDSK from WinXP Boot Disks (6 floppies) ... that, just like the WinXP Setup CD, didn't get past the "Examining Disk 0 on id 0 etc....." stage to load the Recovery Console.
    * my only option was to wipe everything from the drives using a complete "Zero Fill" with Seagate DiscWizard Starter Edition.  That fixed the problem, altough it took about 7 hours to do both disks!    I now have two totally blank HDDs.
    Moving On
Now I'm reinstalling WinXP again ... I want to do it all correctly.  I intend to use the VIA controller rather than the Promise.  When I F6 to load the drivers from the Via floppy during XP Installation, I am presented with a whole list of drivers.  In the past, I always installed the following (in the order shown):
    (1) Via ATA host driver for Windows XP
    (2) Via SATA RAID driver for Windows XP
... is that correct?  Should I be installing both?  and in that order?
The manual came with a booklet called "Serial ATA RAID ... Serial ATA = Quick User's Guide" ... that is packed to the brim with information on using the Promise Controller but says nothing at all (that I've seen) about the VIA controller.  There doesn't seem to be any mention of advice in the official documentation, which seems a bit strange.
Once in XP, you can use the Promise Utility from the CD to set the HDD Cache to enabled or disabled, and set the policy to write-through or write-back.  Is this control not possible with the VIA?
    Next , partitioning:
Rather than let the XP Setup CD partition the drives this time, I let DiscWizard do it (Seagate recommend that and my drives are made by them...):  It did this:
    Partition: 1  //i.e. number of partitions = 1
Size: 120GB //i.e. the full size of my HDD
    Cluster Size: 4KB
    Type: NTFS
    Does that look ok?
Next , not repeating same old mistakes:
However I managed to pick up this "NTFS Bug", I'd rather not do it again.  Can anyone seee an error in what I did?
    * load XP as described, loading BOTH aforementioned drivers from F6 floppy
    * once in XP, load Via 4-1 drivers from CD
    * load NVidia drivers (my friend said load those (from NVidia website) instead of the Creative labs drivers that came with my graphics card ... the card is made by Creative, but uses an NVidia chip = any recommendations?
    * load software applications
... of course, I'm still using the BIOS that came with the Motherboard back in February ... haven't progressed past that yet.  Is this the correct order of tasks?  Cheers.
    Olympics:
In the spirit of the games, I think I deserve the MSI Gold Medal award for "Longest Time Spent With a Non-Working PC"   ... I wish it to be known that I achieved this feat without the use of performance enhancing drugs.  Thank you.
    Fizz

First off, I've used both Promise and Via controllers without incident.  SiSoft Sandra shows Via as being much faster in benchmarking, but I doubt there's any real-world difference although there's lots of others in this forum who will disagree.  I started with the Promise controller for the first 6 months, but when I switched to Via, I was able to load the drivers from Windows after enabling the Via controller in BIOS.  One thing I would recommend is not using any software utilities from any Hard Drive manufacturer, this software causes a lot of issues, you're better off to let Windows handle anything.  If I were you and hadn't spent too much time loading stuff yet, I would go back to starting with blank discs.  Put your Windows CD in and use F6 to load the SATA drivers (see the stickies at the top on this).  Here's a link to a post where I got help with switching from Promise to Via link.  Maybe something there will help you.

  • DKA790gx platinum sata drivers

    Hi
Just bought the mainboard to build a new pc with xp as the os.
I have a new sataII drive and my question is where are the drivers so that I can press f6 during install?
The only reference i can see is in the silicon image folder, are these the drivers to use?
    thanks

    Quote
For all the other new builds (mainly asus boards) I have always pressed F6 and installed the drivers which come on the mainboard cd.
It depend of onboard controller, for old boards which use VIA ctrl loading the corespond drivers are necessary.
    Quote
    Was this step not necessary?
How does the os know its a sata drive or do the drivers get installed later?
You don't need to to load any drivers. Drivers will be automatically installed, also install mainboard chipset drivers after XP installation and you're done.

  • Sata drivers

Sata drivers for installing xp pro on sata Hhd .desktop is a p7-1125 Carmel 2 motherboard.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
That would be hard for me to say.
You made a note of the name of the sata ahci controller in your windows 7 install by going to the device manager, and expanding the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section, correct?
I think it is named the Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller, correct?
If it is not named that, what is the name of the SATA AHCI controller listed there?
You downloaded the drivers I posted above and extracted them without any folders onto a floppy disk drive, correct?
You plugged the FDD in the PC, and booted from the XP disk.
When you saw the "Press the F6 key to install the sata/raid drivers," you pressed the F6 key.
Windows went on, loaded some more files, stopped and brought you to a dialog to select the SATA/RAID driver where you could see your FDD, correct?
You see a list of drivers on the FDD, and you used the Up/Dn arrow keys to scroll to and select the AHCI driver with the same name as your sata controller in the W7 installation, correct?
Then you it the 'S' key.
Now windows should be hitting the FDD and loading the drivers it needs to continue to install.
You need to leave the FDD plugged in until XP is completed installing as it will hit that drive one or more times during the install process.
If you still can't get it, then I don't know what the problem is and you can resort to plan B and read the guidance at the link below--Intel section to slipstream the drivers.  Follow the instructions in the document you will be linked to to slipstream all of the drivers.

  • MSI Neo4 Platinum SATA Drivers Question

I've recently purchased the above motherboard and am about to install Windows XP on it, and I have a 250GB Maxtor SATA drive. Now, do I need to bother slipstreaming the SATA Drivers into my XP installation CD? I had heard rumours that the device will detect as IDE and work properly until you give it the right drivers later on - is this true, or do I need to mess with an install CD?

If you have only 1 SATA disk or do not plan to use RAID then YES you do not need a floppy to load using F6.  XP includes standard drivers.
If you plan to add a 2nd disk and use RAID later then I would advise you to load both the nvatabus and nvraid drivers from a floppy using F6 at the start of XP install, as you may have to re-install XP otherwise.

  • SATA Drivers for P965 Neo ?

    Ok.. first time  here..
I have an Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo running on an MSI P965 Neo MB with 2 GB RAM, with a Seagate ST3320620AS 320 GB SATA drive. The OS is WinXP Pro.
For the most part, everything is ok. However, I suspect the HD is not running at max capacity. In some basic file transfer tests, I calculate that the data transfer rate is about 32 MB/Sec.  Running the PassMark Performance Text, it says about 46 to 47 MB.  However, the specs on the Seagate site say this drive should be able to run about 72 MB in sustained transfer rate.
Now I have been chatting on some other boards about this, and the consensus is that I should have installed the SATA driver prior to the WinXp install (when prompted press F6 to install 3rd party drivers). However, when I look at the MSI site ( http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=4&CHIP=4&COM=24 ), I only see RAID drivers. I am not interested in running RAID - besides, I only have one hard drive. Are there some specific SATA drivers I need to install before installing XP? If so, which ones and where do I get them?
Secondly, if I DO need to install a driver, how do I go about this without a floppy drive?  When I bought the system, I opted to get flash media card reader instead of a floppy drive, since I thought floppys were pretty much obsolete.  Will XP recognize the driver on a flash media card instead of the floppy drive, or do I need to now buy a floppy drive?

    Maesus..
    Many thanks for the reply!
The drive is in SATA port 1, and the drive is a Seagate ST3320620AS 320 GB SATA II, rated at 3.0 GBits.
The board has 5 SATA ports, numbered: 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7.  (Not sure why there are no 2 or 5 ports.)
The manual says they are all high speed SATA II ports, rated at 300 MB, and although the specs say there are 4 SATA II ports by ICH8 and 1 SATA II port by JMicron JMB361, it does not specify which is the JMicron port.
Do you know which port is the JMricon? And can I move the cable to a different port, without affecting operation? i.e, will the system still boot up?  Or does moving it involve reloading the OS? Do I need to load a 3rd party driver for the ICH8 ports?
    Thanks for your assistance!
