Loading Sharp printer driver on iMac

Hi, I have just come back to Mac after 15 years and in setting up my new computer, I cannot load the Printer Driver for a Sharp ARM205 laser printer. I have downloaded the latest Mac driver from Sharp and I can see the file in the Downloads Folder but cannot work out how to load it. The computer can see the printer but with no driver, no printing after many attempts. Any tips appreciated.

Hello and welcome back to Mac
If you select the driver file in Downloads and perform a Get Info (Command I or File > Get Info), the Get Info will show you under the heading of Name & Extension what format the file is. Note that you may need to click the little triangle next to Name & Extension to expand the view.
With OS X 10.5 and 10.6, there is a built in function to create a compressed zip file. If this is the extension of the driver, simply double click to decompress the download. It will automatically create a folder for the driver in the same Downloads folder. If the file format is something other than zip, you may need Stuffit or something similar to unpack the file. Please reply with the extension name.
Also, under the Name & Extension menu is the Open With section. If you expand this entry, you will see what application on the Mac is set to open these files types. If no application is listed, then as mentioned already you may have to download a utility to unpack the file.

  • Unable to load HP printer driver-Error message!

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can be of any assistance.
I recently purchased a HP Photosmart 2575 all-in-one printer and installed the necessary software, which said it was successfully installed. However, whenever I boot up the G3 I keep getting the following message 'Unable to load the printer drive, open the applications Get Info dialog and increase the preferred memory size. If this does not help try quitting all other applications or reinstalling the printer software.'
After clicking ok on this message about four times the message goes and I am able to print fine. Just wondering why this is happening. I have increased the memory allocation and also turnt on the virtual memory to see if this makes any difference, but all to no avail. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled the software to see if this makes a difference, but that didn't help either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
PS: The printer is connected via ethernet on my router to enable me to print from another machine

Use Techtool Lite or Trash*Desktop (TD may delete Finder comments )to rebuild your desktop w/extensions off. Does a better job than manually & you avoid all the finger gymnatics. You just have to hold down the shift key to shut off extensions.
Restart to turn the extensions back on again.
If you want to rebuild manually, see KB article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182 Rebuilding Desktop File and Icon Recovery.

If you are trying to load from an optical disc, try downloading the driver from the printer manufactures website instead. Make sure and check for the appropriate model number.

  • Canon printer driver update - iMac no longer boots up

This morning my Mac displayed an update for my Canon MP560 printer. After the download and install my Mac no longer boots, it just hangs on the white apple logo. I have left it for ages and it rebooted itself but hangs again.

Booted from DVD and did repair permissions. Seems to have sorted it out now.

  • Unable to load Canon MP160 printer driver

I've had the hardest time using my Canon MP160 printer on my iMac (Mac OS 10.5). In fact, I'm not able to print at all.
I have the printer connected via USB. It always has been. However, it only stopped working recently.
I downloaded the drivers for the printer and scanner from Canon's web site. However, when I attempt to load the printer driver, the "Installing Canon IJ Printer Driver" window appears. It gets to the "Finishing Installation" part in the process. But it "hangs" at some point and does not complete. I've tried it twice. It hung at two different points in the process. I tried letting it run overnight. That was no good.
I've also looked for the "Printer Setup Utility" and can't seem to find that anyplace. I'm wondering why I can't find that.
If anybody could help me solve this, I'd be so thankful.

Hello marconi10. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to install your printer on one computer, over a wireless connection. I'm going to suggest a very simple workaround, which if it works, will remove any complicated troubleshooting that would be necessary:
Please try installing the printer with a USB connection. If this does not work, you know that there is an issue occurring with the computer.
If this does work, the printer will be successfully installed. At that point, you can change the connection type from USB to wireless. For more information on how to do this, please reference this HP document: Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless
If the printer will still not connect wireless, this will point out a computer issue. For additional information and troubleshooting, relating to the inability of installing the printer over a wireless network, please reference this HP document: 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During Wireless Network Installation
Please respond with the results of your troubleshooting. I'm only here to help!

  • Printer Driver for Laserwriter 320

I need to load the printer driver for my Laserwriter 320 on my iBook, which I just upgraded to OS 10.4. However, the install disk did not have any Apple printer drivers on it, contrary to reports stating that they were on the disk.
I have tried third party sites to find the printer driver download but only the driver for Windows machines can be found.
Does anyone have or know of a source that has the Mac printer driver for Laserwriter 320?
    Thanks,
    Greg Linn

    Hi.
The driver for the Personal LaserWriter 320 is already installed by default, since it's part of the Essential System Software. If you want to check it, just go to System/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj, and you'll find the "l LaserWriter Personal 320.gz".
If I recall correctly, in order to make that legacy printer work with OS X, you need an Ethernet to LocalTalk Adatper, like the AsanteTalk, or similar.
    Good Luck.

  • Installing print driver

i am struggling to try and load my print driver on the MAC side of my macbook. I want to print to my printer on my home LAN and have downloaded the HP MAC installer but it keeps looking for a connection on my network at the office vs at home. What do i need to do

Is your computer set to your home network? Sounds like somewhere you have the settings going to your work network. Are you trying to do this wired or wireless? How is the printer connected to the network, is it wireless?

  • Trying to install iwork '09 from dvd on new imac with no dvd drive.....iwork is brand new (bought off ebay) in unopened box....I have at my disposal an older imac with dvd drive and a 16GB thumb drive...what is best way to load iwork on the new imac?

bought my mom a new imac this xmas...didn't realize it has no dvd drive....just picked up a new unopened version of iwork '09 for her to use off of ebay....need to get it loaded on the new dvddriveless imac......I have an imac at my house with a drive and a thumb drive i could bring over to her house if I could somehow burn an image of the iwork dvd on the thumb drive...is this possible?  is there a better solution other than buying an external dvd drive?

First use Disk Utilty to make a disk image of the iWork disc on your iMac. Then there are two easy ways to install on your mothers new iMac. One is to copy to your USB thumb drive, visit your mother and install from the thumb drive. The other is to use a free upload and download service like www.wetransfer.com. Upload the .dmg disk image via www.wetransfer.com, then your mother downloads and installs. After installation you'll need to update iWork for Mountain Lion compatibility.

  • I cannot load Maverick on my iMac HD.  It reports that my HD is used for Time Machine backups and will not load to that drive.  I do not use this drive for backups.  Help.

I cannot load Maverick on my iMac HD.  It reports that my HD is used for Time Machine backups and will not load to that drive.  I do not use this drive for backups.  I use an external 1 TB WD My Book for backups as well as Super Duper Backups. Can anyone offer advice.   Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have got the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive. This is the folder used by Time Machine to save backups to, and the OS X Mavericks installer thought that your hard drive is being used to store Time Machine backups
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb" and empty the Trash. Finally, open the Mavericks installer from the Applications folder and follow the steps
