Loading symbols by default in a new doc
I'm new to illustrator, being seasoned with Photoshop, I thought it would be a breeze. But it's the most frustrating program I've ever used. Perhaps my assumptions from Photoshop are holding me back.
All I want to do, is batch create a set of icons. I have a set of .svg shapes in a folder. I need to record the process but I'm stuck on one particular step.
I have successfully recorded the creating of a layer, the pasting of the symbol etc. BUT when I try to batch process the folder of icons, the symbols that I created, are not loaded by default.
I have tried the "persistant" option, but that merely loads the symbols in to a panel, that I need to then add to the symbols library. But that process isn't recordable.
I'm absolutely at a loss. I've been struggling for hours and my creativity is now dead.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Howdy.
I'd like to offer a refinement to Jet's action.
First, create a separate document for each symbol containing only that symbol. It can be as many as you want. Then create the following action. It opens the symbol document, selects the symbol, copies the symbol, closes the document, then pastes the symbol into your new document. At this point, it's just a path. The action then converts it into a symbol, then clears the pasted in path, as Jet suggested. Record the sequence for each symbol you wish to load.
I tried using the Place command. It would record, but when I tried to run it I got an error message. That's why it's turned off in the screenshot. Place may work on your machine.
Anyway, the above action will add the symbols to the palette of any open document. One click, done. Or you can run it on a batch of documents as Jet suggested.
FWIW.
Peace,
Lee

i've tried to set up a new user on a mac book pro and i restarted it to create the new account but now all i can get is a white screen with the apple logo and the loading symbol what can i do ?
Look at this support article:

In app store i click on buy. The loading symbols come up for a few swconds, then nothing happens. I can get in to ibooks but can,t get any new books to display as choices,
I guess, putting it in recovery mode and restoring it "as new phone" is your only chance if you can make it. Restoring from a backup may copy corrupt files back to your phone, causing this problem.

Migrate "Default New Doc Sizes" into photoshop CC
How can I migrate these Default New Doc Sizes?
Is it just copy and paste - or is there an easy trick to it somewhere?
I don't want to enter all 200 default sizes again

Bugs: open new doc, custom XMP panel crash
When opening a new document after starting Photoshop, it appears with half a checkboard pattern:
Drawing on it looks like below:
I also had an issue where I closed the doc (without saving) after drawing, then opened a new doc. The previous drawing then appeared partially twice (large, and a small version in top left corner) in the new doc, this only happened once though.
I added a custom XMP panel that works fine with CS5 to $user-dir\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\4.0\panels
On selecting the custom panel, in the File Info window, the panel window / CS6 crashes. (The grey window in the sshot below is an imprint of the irfanview settings I used to take these screenshots, this imprinting behaviour (not sure if it has a proper name) is reasonably common with crashed programs).

Is there any way to change the default folder for new finder windows...
...Or even set a different folder as the "home folder"?
I am recovering from an incredibly messy archive and install which refused to allow me to save my old user accounts, instead moving them all into "Previous Systems". In my haste to get the machine working again I just dragged and dropped my old home folder into the /users/ directory and changed the "short name" of the new account to match it. IT worked, but now I have an incredibly irritating problem. That is now indeed my home folder, as appears in the sidebar of all finder windows, albeit under my new short name instead of my old one. All my documents in iWeb, Garageband, etc are working now and default to the new folder.
However, Finder has not recognized this, and every time I open a new Finder window or anything like that it defaults to the home folder created by the reinstall, which is now locked to this account (so all the folders have a red no entry sign on them). I would very much like to tell Finder to ignore this now defunct folder and default to my actual home folder instead - is there a way to do this without actually moving or changing any folders? Like a preference setting somewhere? I know there's the "Advanced Options" pane in Leopard but I've been completely unable to find anything like it in TigerFinder > Preferences > new Finder Window opens

New tabs are not updating the names of the sites they have loaded. When I open a new tab and load a site, the tab simply stays named "New Tab". When I open a link in a new window, it shows "Connecting..." even while its fully loaded.
This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

How to setup a default size for new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver?
Hi,
how to setup a default size for a new divs in fluid grid layout in dreamweaver? I don't need the default size for new divs as a 100% width, I need them 13.69% as a one coulmn width only (7 coulmns fluid grids layout for desktop size 1000w).
This problem I've faced when I intended to insert dozens of fluid grid divs in the layout.Sorry, I don't believe that you have had a good look at the Foundation framework. I'll now hold your hand while we go through the basics.
Here is the specific page http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html
The default values are
Em-base : 16px
Row width: 62.5em (62.5em x 16px = 1000px)
Columns per row: 12
These and other default values can be changed. The fact of the matter is that if you stipulate a section width of 2 or 3 or 12 columns, the widths will automatically be calculated for you.
In your case, if you want 7 columns, all you need to do is change the number of columns per row and the rest is done for you. -
Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
We're experimenting with using webcache to load balance between multiple applications servers running OC4J forms processes.
We currently have one machine with infrastructure and mid-tier (BI & Forms) installed, which is being used for the webcache functionality, this is load balancing between 2 other servers each of which just have the mid-tier (BI & Forms) installation
In order to get this to work, I had to follow the instructions in the Forms deployment guide : http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/tuning.htm#sthref707
The main gist of this is that you need to set the following in the orion-web.xml file in order that the sessions are maintained:
<session-tracking
cookies="enabled">
</session-tracking>
This all works fine in most cases.
The problem I am having is if I do one of the following on the client machine:
1) From IE6 / IE7 run a copy of a forms application. Then open a new window using the "New Window" menu option, and attempt to run another forms application.
2) In IE7 or Firefox 2.0 open a copy of the forms application, and then open a new tab and try and open another forms application.
If I try either of these I get a FRM-92101 error, and the following is displayed in the java console:
oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Connection from new browser window not supported
From trawling various forums (including metalink and otn) it looks like a problem with the way coockies are handled.
Unfortunately the usual workaround is to ensure that the session tracking option in the orion-web.xml file is disabled.
The problem is that I need this enabled in order for the load balancing to work.
Does anyone know of any other workarounds or patches that might help resolve this?
We're using Application server 10.1.2.0.2 running on windows 2003 servers.You were right. Carriage returns were stopping it from working (the document is laid out over separate lines, so I assumed it would make no difference...).
I've now managed to get it so the forms at least run, but they are all being run in the forms OC4J instance on the same machine as the OHS.
Has anyone actually managed to get this to work, or am I doing something wrong?
I did wonder if using an OHS instance on a machine with no forms installation would make any difference?
I had raised a support call via metalink on this subject, but they eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this is with a hardware load balancer (Despite several documents suggesting that webcache is the way to go (including the forms deployment manual)).
I'm at the point now of giving up and writing some custom scripts to do the job instead... -
Pages as Default Word Processor for .doc Microsoft Word (Office) Files
In reading the system topics, there was a nice simple help solution. Find a .doc file. Do a Get Info (CMD-I) on the file and then under the File Options choose Pages, and indicate that this works for all .doc files.
BUT... Wunderkind Apple Engineers who put ease-of-use above everything, that is still about four steps harder than going into the PREFERENCES on either PAGES or Text Edit, or even having a centralized prefs in the System Preferences Panel that lets you pick and choose what APPs run what files.
How about sticking a check box into the APP to change it over? Or is that offending the powers-that-be in Redmond so badly that they might do to Office what they did to Internet Explorer on the Mac?
iWork outshines Office. Give us an easier route to LIVE MICROSOFT FREE!
Applejedi1Dennis:
Lets clarify. In Pages:
File>Preferences
Do you want Pages to be your default reader for:
CHECKBOX - .doc (Word Files)
CHECKBOX - .txt, csv (Text Files)
Do you want Pages to automatically save a Word file of your document:
PULLDOWN: In addition to creating a pages file; (Indicate where page may be placed)
Instead of creating a pages file;
And Yes, for the end-user who is new to Macs or new to computers in general, simplifying the handling of documents to a preference in the System controls would make sense. Then each App wouldn't have to do it, or could modify the central file if say Firefox wanted to be your browser/handler of choice, and asked you if you want it to be the primary control of that kind of content. Why shouldn't Pages be able to ask/set up the program easily so that the user can just get about the business of using the program? Your solution is nice, but it is still at a level that you have to be comfortable with working with files and GET INFO, which, while it doesn't phase you or me, would freak out my technophobic 14 year old daughter or my wife. -
ALV Grid default values for new rows added with Add/Insert buttons
Hi!
Help, please, to find a way how to set default values for new rows added with Add/Insert buttons in
ALV Grid.I have found salution:
ALV Grid u2013 Insert row function
Sometimes we need to assign some default values when we create a new row in a grid using standard ALV Append row button. In our scenario we will see how to assign default values to Airline Code (CARRID), Flight Connection Number (CONNID) and Flight date (FLDATE) when a new row is created. To do that we need to handle DATA_CHANGED event in the program like mentioned below.
Definition of a class:
Code:
CLASS lcl_event_receiver DEFINITION
CLASS LCL_EVENT_RECEIVER DEFINITION.
PUBLIC SECTION.
METHODS:
handle_data_changed
FOR EVENT data_changed OF cl_gui_alv_grid
IMPORTING er_data_changed
e_ucomm.
ENDCLASS. "lcl_event_receiver DEFINITION
Implementation of a class:
Code:
CLASS LCL_EVENT_RECEIVER IMPLEMENTATION.
METHOD HANDLE_DATA_CHANGED.
DATA: dl_ins_row TYPE lvc_s_moce. " Insert Row
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <fs> TYPE table. " Output table
Loop at the inserted rows table and assign default values
LOOP AT er_data_changed->mt_inserted_rows INTO dl_ins_row.
ASSIGN er_data_changed->mp_mod_rows->* TO <fs>.
loop at <fs> into ls_outtab.
ls_outtab-carrid = 'LH'.
ls_outtab-connid = '400'.
ls_outtab-fldate = sy-datum.
MODIFY <fs> FROM ls_outtab INDEX sy-tabix.
endloop.
endloop.
ENDMETHOD. "handle_data_changed
ENDCLASS. "lcl_event_receiver IMPLEMENTATION
Register the events to trigger DATA_CHANGED event when a new row is created.
Code:
CALL METHOD OBJ_GRID->REGISTER_EDIT_EVENT
EXPORTING
I_EVENT_ID = CL_GUI_ALV_GRID=>MC_EVT_ENTER.
CALL METHOD OBJ_GRID->REGISTER_EDIT_EVENT
EXPORTING
I_EVENT_ID = CL_GUI_ALV_GRID=>MC_EVT_MODIFIED. -

My Iphone 4 has been stuck on a loading symbol for a week now, I've plugged it into the computer but can't do anything still because it says I need to put my pass-code in, but I can't the screen is on loading still! Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
On the new laptop, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

This is exactly what i have done and the error message went away.
But at boot still hangs.

Picas & not inches in new doc set up
When I start a new doc in InDesign CS4 the increments are in picas and not inches, which I prefer. I'm having to start the doc, then go under preferences change to inches and then go to doc set up again change the size to what I need and then go under margins and change than...basically a couple more steps than what I did to set up a doc in CS3...I don't see anywhere to lock in the preferences. Help!
Change it in the preferences with no documents open. That will be the default for all new documents.
