Loading video to 160gb classic

I can't load video into my ipod library after its been ripped,  (istudio & DVD Magic). I have no problem ripping video formats but my library just wont accept it, (simple drag and drop), I already have a 60gb ipod that i have had no problem loading video. I then updated to the 160gb to fit more video but it won't accept the avi files video into my library. They play fine on my pc.

I've just found out last night that iTunes does not allow videos not from the iTunes store. That's not a very good promotion for iTunes. Well, you can always try loading it into Windows Media Player, then dragging the file into your iPod on "Disk Mode".

  • Having trouble syncing video to Ipod Classic 160GB

    Hi all,
Finally moved up to an Ipod after a few too many years with other brands...and am really enjoying the Ipod/Itunes combo for music.
Video's a different matter, though, and I could use your help!
I'm trying to get a few videos onto my Classic, and have converted them into MP4 format and put them in the "Movies" folder in Itunes (they show up alongside every video I've shot on my digital camera). My Ipod is set to sync automatically, and does so for music, but not for video. I was able to get the videos on using the instructions I found on http://www.ehow.com/how4925922download-videos-onto-ipod-classic.html , but the next time I synced music on my Ipod, it removed the videos I'd added.
Is there a way that I could add videos manually, and keep syncing music automatically, without the automatic syncing removing things that I added manually? Or could I set Itunes/Ipod up such that music is automatically queued for syncing, while videos need to be approved for syncing?
Basically, how can I get this to work?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hello stopheles,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How do you currently have your iPod set up to sync Videos? What settings do you have enabled from under the Videos tab for your iPod in iTunes? Specifically, the "Automatically sync (Select Option Here, e.g. all) movies" option on this tab.

  • Video Transfer To Classic 160?

Just bought a new 160GB iPod Classic.  Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm trying to put a NCAA produced video sporting event on it and can't figure out how to do it after reading the on-line manuals.
I load the commercially made video disc into my computer, with the iPod connected, and there's no prompt to begin transfer/import to the iPod.
I've already loaded roughly 400 music CD's without any problems.  Is this type of video something the Classic wasn't designed to accomodate?
    Thank you for any/all help/advice!

Will the video you purchased play in iTunes? If you haven't tried it, try playing it in iTunes first and then see if it will transfer.

  • 160GB Classic - Album Cover not showing on Kenwood DNX-7200

I have just changed from an 80GB video to a 160GB Classic.
I have a Kenwood DNX-7200 Sat Nav stereo in the car and previously a picture of the relevant album was displayed on the screen but it comes up as "Load Error" with the new classic.
    Any ideas?

If you have firmware 1.0.9, then it should support the new iPod Classic - it's downloadable from Kenwood's site (support/navigation units) and requires a PC and USB stick IIRC - definitely requires a USB stick to apply but I think either it or the 2.6 navigation firmware required a PC to unpack an EXE self-extracting archive.
You can check your firmware in the setup menus.

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?
    Thanks in advance

  • No picture on tv from 160GB classic

having read all the forums re the problems with the TV OUT function on the new 160GB classic i find that i have no problem with that ....but i can get no picture on tv from connecting using the apple AV cable to the AV input on a new panasonic TV. i can get sound but no picture .bought the apple AV connection kit containing universal dock and AV cable (one red one white one yellow),set ipod to TV out, played imported DVD(works fine on ipod screen) but although sound is clear ,there is no sign of any visuals . could it be that the cable is an older type and is not compatible to carry the video input from the dock to the TV ?? any ideas welcome.

thanks. i got new cables and now have vision. unfortunately the captions will not turn off even though the ipod screen settings read 'off' and the picture resolution is very poor . is this normal when viewing a movie on the big screen (a 32' lcd panasonic) ?

  • Problem with 160GB Classic

So, I just recently installed the new 1.1 update for my 160Gb Classic. Everything worked fine. Then I started to apply some EQ's to songs (which I had not previously done) and iTunes froze up. I managed to end the task and quit iTunes and used the eject storage device icon on the bottom toolbar on my computer to eject my iPod. After saying it was "OK to disconnect", I did and the iPod clicked, shut down and came back on saying I had no music. However, when I plugged it back into iTunes, it showed that all the space my music had previously taken up was now listed as "Other". I don't want to have to re-load all my music. Can anyone help me?
    Here are my stats:
    Windows
    iTunes 7.5
    iPod Classic 160GB
    HP Computer

The easy way is just to do a restore. In the future, I wouldn't work on my iTunes library files while the iPod is connected. It seems to me that iTunes already uses a HUGE chunk of system resources, and having the iPod connected just uses even more. Then when you start changing ID3 tags ("Get Info"), it can really cause the system to CHUG. If you don't believe me, try just changing one ID3 tag on a 1.5GB movie file. iTunes practically takes over the computer until it's darned good and ready to do something else.
Or, I'd download [Tagger|http://tvtagger.wordpress.com>, which doesn't use nearly as many resources as iTunes, and allows you to edit many more ID3 fields than iTunes does.

  • Why can't my 160GB Classic turn off when it's in the universal dock?

When I have my brand new 160GB Classic in my about 4 years old Universal Dock, I can't switch it off. When it's not in the dock, I can switch it off just by pressing the lower key the ordinary way.
When I had my about 4 year old 60GB iPod in the dock, I could turn it off when in the dock, but this doesn't work with my new iPod. The screen keeps saying that the battery is loading or loaded, even when the back light is switched off.
How can I completely turn it off when it's in the dock?

    Hi Thebestest1v1er,
Based on your description of being able to Safe Boot (holding down the shift key) but not boot normally, it sounds like your startup/restart issue may be related to one of the things that Safe Boot disables. You can find more information about them here:
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
It may also be related to a disk or file system issue (as that is also something checked during Safe Boot). You may find these articles helpful as well:

  • ITunes Shuts Down when Loading Videos

I have a 120 gig iPod Classic, and just recently I started having problems with it. Now whenever I try to load a movie from iTunes to my iPod, iTunes shuts down right when the video is almost done loading onto my iPod. I have no problems with music, or even when I load videos from another computer. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Are you trying to sync them from the photos tab?
If so, try importing the videos into itunes and then syncing them from the movies tab.
You'll also want to uncheck 'Sync Videos' in the photos tab.

  • 160GB classic vs. 2G Nano (Nano FTW!)

    Cross posted from another forum...
My bi-monthly housecleaner brought in a new girl to help out last week. The new girl helped alright. She helped herself to my black 8GB Nano and an (inexpensive) wristwatch, and has stopped answering her phone. Gotta love people.
Well I didn't use the Nano a ton, but I liked having it around. (I've been mostly using my iPhone, and the 160GB Classic I got with my iPhone refund money.) I also consider the 2G Nano to be Apple's finest touchwheel iPod from an industrial design standpoint. The new Nanos look and feel totally awkward to me. The 2G Nano is the last word in flash based mp3 players to date IMO, in terms of size, ease of use, battery life, and form factor.
So today I decided I missed my Nano and it was time to find another. No small feat it turns out. Ebay is a mix of used, fakes, and overpriced refurbs. Seems like a week ago they were everywhere here in NYC, but today they were nowhere to be found.
When I eventually found one, brand new for $173, I snatched it up. (at Digital Society, auth. dealer, 60 E10th @ B'way...they had 5 or 6 left if anyone cares)
I got the new-old Nano home, charged it up, filled it, and started playing music. I hadn't used my previous Nano since getting the Classic, so I had forgotten what it was like. I was floored at how much smoother it operated compared to the Classic. The menus fly, the wheel responds the millisecond you touch it. It's what an iPod experience should be. On the Classic, I have to rub the wheel about 5 times to wake it up. Most of the time I give up and just click the center button. I always have the sense that I'm coaxing the Classic to do what I want, and waiting while it ponders the notion.
As others have written, I find the Classic beyond sluggish, bloated with near useless eye candy, and lacking the basic level of touch sensitivity that has been present in every iPod preceding it. In its current firmware state, I pretty much hate the Classic. But it's 160GB. I have every song I own on it, and still have about 70 gigs free. That has been the sole mitigating factor keeping me from returning it. The 160GB Classic is like the big dumb ox you're friends with in college because he can lift a full keg over his head.
I won't touch on the Nano's sound quality vs. the Classic. Many will argue inferiority on the Classic's part. In a bustling crowded city, they both sound pretty great to me.
I will say that in the 3 short weeks I've owned it, I have been spoiled by the screen quality of the Classic. The Nano screen is dimmer, yellowish and the fonts are fuzzy by comparison.
Otherwise, I'm truly baffled as to how the Classic passed QC at Cupertino. Something is seriously amiss at Apple these days. Viva la Nano!

Considerations are capacity, price, screen size, lifestyle, known issues.
How big is your music/media library? The Classic has a max capacity of 160GB vs the Nano 16GB,  some people use the classic as a Music datastore, which I think is not a good idea, as there are hundreds if not thousands of reported iPod hardisk crash, and some people erase the music library in their PC, thinking that the iPod classic is sturdy and reliable. (just read these discussion on Sync issue)
Price - Nano is half the price of the Classic.
Screen size - Nano screen is too small for video
    Nano has FM Radio.
Battery life (when new) - Classic has about 40 hours of continuos music per full charge, where Nano has about 24 hours of continuos music.
Nano has no moving parts, hence more sturdy and reliable.
However if you want a sturdy device, with big screen, and more functionality, get  the iPod Touch, it is double the cost of the Nano if you get the 32GB Touch.
For better comparison, read this Apple specs
