Local Account copy to Domain account

Windows 8.1 Home version upgraded To Windows 8.1 Pro. Created Domain account. Local account is a Microsoft account. Is there a way to transfer the profile contents and settings to new domain account?

You could use the copy profile method as listed here
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781200%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 (written for 2003 but the same is still available in 8.1).
Alternatively you can do it manually as explained step by step here

  • How can I install WebOfTrust for a local account and save the profile so that it transfers to domain accounts that log on to that specific computer?

    We are creating images through ghost server to clone onto several laptops and one of the features we need to have configured is the Web of Trust extension in Firefox. I have configured a local account on the machine and set up Web of Trust and then copied the profile image in regedit to the default profile image and saved this. WOT works for local accounts but whenever I try domain accounts, Web of Trust needs to be disabled and re-enabled.

    Try using Web of Trust support:

    Or post in their user support forum:

  • Help! How to migrate local account settings to domain account in Windows 8.1 Pro

    All kinds of answers to this question come up for Windows 7 (even though I specify Windows 8.1 Pro)
    Anyway, have a laptop originally with Win 8.1 and a local account created.   Upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro and logged in as domain user.  How can I copy all the settings I had as a local account to my domain account? Surely SOMEONE has found a way
    to do this?

    Hi,
    You can use USMT to achive your goals. However, I doubt whether you would encounter some problem, as domain controller would set some restricted settings and some policy of your local account won't be applied.
    To know more about USMT, please refer to the link below:

  • Transfering local account preferences to domain accounts

    I've been given the task of adding a handful of Macs to an AD domain. So far I've added 2 with no issues.
    My problem is this: all of the Macs have been in use for months or more and have local accounts on them. I'm looking for a way to bring my users application, browser, and OS preferences from the local accounts of my users into their new domain accounts using the least administrative effort. I'm assuming that this will be as simple as copying parts of the users library over, but am unsure if this is the best way to go about it or what specific folders need to be copied.
    I was also asked (and I think the answer to this is no) whether or not a local account can simply be changed into a domain account.
    Models are MacBook Pros, iMacs, and I believe 1 Macbook Air. All are Intel. If there is any more info that I can provide let me know.
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Migrating from local accounts to domain based.

    Hi experts
    I would really appreciate some guidance on how to achieve the following. We current have a SL sever 10.6 hosting all our file shares. We have 2 Imacs and 2 Macbook pro's. We access the server via local accounts mapped to the server. We are happy that all documents are stored on the server other than home accounts which we don't really use.
    We would ideally like to hotdesk so that any user could use any MAC and get his mail, mounts and preferences pushed down the the machine he is working on. I think this is called a roaming profile in the windows world. Is this called a mobile account in Macworld? It would be cracking if anyone could take the Macbooks out and let the others use any of the reaming Macs.
    I would appreciate some pointer on the technologies i am need to use to achieve the solution above.
    Many thanks for your time and effort.
    Alex

    The mobile account your referring to keeps a local copy of the users home, you can create it by logging in with the network user and in system preferences, go to accounts, click on the network user and there's a button to create a mobile home.
    If you just use network accounts tho you could still have them swap computers as needed, all though for the laptops you might need the mobile account if they're going to be out of your network.
    Something to keep in mind (i don't know if they fixed it) but some adobe products (like acrobat) crash instantly if ran by a network user, has to be mobile or local (last time i checked)

  • Local Account Migrated to Domain Account Issue

    I used the Windows Server 2012 Connector tool to migrate a local profile to a domain account on a WS2012E Server.  The problem is, when the user logs in to the laptop, we will call Laptop1 using his domain account we will call DomainUser1, Laptop1 is
    still using the folder for his old local account (we will call LocalUser1).  Laptop1 was the machine used to migrate the local account to domain account.  When DomainUser1 logs in to another terminal, we will call Desktop1, it takes a long time to
    login.  After this initial long login time, he can then log in to other terminals that are NOT the Laptop1 machine with normal login speed.  As soon as he goes to login to Laptop1, it takes forever again.
    My theory is that Laptop1 is using a different SID for his domain/local account, which is causing the slow login speed, as windows has to update permissions for all his files.  This is a very confusing scenario to explain, so I hope you all are following
    me.
    To recap:
    DomainUser1 logs in to Laptop1 - the local profile uses folder C:\Users\LocalUser1
    If DomainUser1 logs in to any other terminal - the local profile for that computer uses folder C:\Users\DomainUser1
    My theory is that this difference is causing slow login times.  No other users on the domain are having login issues other than those users that had their profiles from their personal computers migrated to the domain accounts.  All other domain
    users that had their files migrated using the tool are having similar slow login times, when access their personal computers and then switching to other terminals.
    How do I go about changing the local profile on Laptop1, when logged in as DomainUser1 to use folder C:\Users\DomainUser1 rather than C:\Users\LocalUser1?

  • Windows 8 Sysprep - Can't skip local account creation and autologon fails, wrong admin password.

    Using Windows 8 x64 Enterprise, Sysprep pauses to ask me to create a local user, which I don't want.
    If I enable SkipSystemOOBE and SkipUserOOBE in OOBE under Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup sysprep (in oobe mode) will skip user creation and autologon works.  But it only works correctly once.  If I run sysprep again, when it tries to autologon
    it will say that I have the wrong password for the local account.  After I type in the password manually it works.  If I use the same password for the local administrator account as for the autologon account, it looks to have the encrypted password
    twice with an equal sign after it.
    What I need to know:
    How to skip local user account creation (we run on a domain but I have it connect through scripts later)
    How to fix the autologon issue
    Do I need the local administrator account enabled for this to work?

    The user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome is suppressed if a user or a group is added to a local security group. Add a user or a group to a local security group by doing one of the following:
    Create a local user.
    Add a domain user to a local security group with the Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup | UserAccounts unattended installation setting.
    To suppress the user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome, without creating a local user, use one of the following workarounds:
    Workaround 1
    If the computer is already joined to a domain, use the following XML example to add the Domain Users security group to the Local Users security group.
    <DomainAccounts>
     <DomainAccountList wcm:action="add">
      <DomainAccount wcm:action="add">
      <Group>Users</Group>
      <Name>Domain Users</Name>
      </DomainAccount>
      <Domain>FabrikamDomain</Domain>
      </DomainAccountList>
    </DomainAccounts>
    Because joining a domain automatically adds the Domain Users security group to the Local Users security group, the DomainAccounts command does not affect the membership of the Local Users group. However, using this XML example to join a domain will also suppress
    the user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome.
    Workaround 2
    Use the Sysprep/Quit command to set the following registry value to 1:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE\UnattendCreatedUser

  • Office 2011 won't start (crashes) on one of the local accounts. MacBook 2013 Moutain Lion.

    Hi and thank you for your interest,
       recently all of the Microsoft applications refuse to start on one of the local accounts an a late 2013 MackBook Pro. Every time you try to start Word, Excel or any other Office app you get a non-specific message "...quit unexpectedly...". A following log is available, but before I post it I would just like to say that I have tried:
    *using it on other local account and it works
    *fixing permissions
    *cleaning user specific library (all the application support, preferences, saved states, etc.)
    *uninstalling office and manually removing all 'leftovers' [root library and user libraries]
    *booting in safe mode
    *reinstalling Office
    Still no luck, that's the log:
    Any help would be very welcome, thank you.

    I may have a solution:
    I was able to boot from my LaCie FireWire 800 hard drive backup. This was my daily backup so the data was only a few hours old. That told me I did not have on motherboard issue – thank you very much who's ever out there looking over my shoulder.
    I then removed both internal drives and was able to power cycle the SSD drive via my PowerBook G4 from February 2005 thank you very much PowerBook G4.
    After booting several times from the FireWire drive (to test that the external drives which used to be the internal drives were actually visible and they were), I then reinstalled the 2 internal drives but not before totally reformatting the SSD drive. For at least the third time in the last five years my daily and weekly backups along with the program superduper have saved my buttinsky...
    At this time some 100 Gb of my 326 on my SSD is copied over. I realize I am not out of the woods yet because after fully copying all the data I have to be able to boot from that SSD drive in the main compartment.
    And I really think this was nothing more than me deleting invisible files on the main hard drive thinking that this was just some maintenance task that I could do and instead I totally corrupted the SSD.
    I will post this now and I'm probably 2 to 4 hours away from having everything copied over and then seeing if it actually boots and works.  I'll post back then or if it's too late here in Belgium then tomorrow.
    What I've realized is that it's great to have backups and also great to have an eight-year-old PowerBook G4 but I'm definitely going to need a fully backed up recent Mac in case this would ever happen again.  It's an expensive route to go but better than recovering from another heart attack well another one I guess I had one today I'm not sure.

  • How do I create a local account from a network login from the command line?

    I am connecting to my organization's domain using 3rd party software which doesn't allow for using the GUI for creating local accounts.  How can I do this through the command line or is there a better way to script it?  Thanks in advance!

    What you're looking for, I think, is mobile accounts with portable home directories.

  • On Windows Server 2008, local account passwords are reset when the server is rebooted. Why, and how do we fix?

    We are running a commercial application on a Windows 2008 Server. After reboot, we cannot access the application because two services fail to start. The reason they fail to start is that the passwords to the local user accounts tied to those services have
    either been deleted or reset to a different value. In order to restart the application, we must reset the passwords of these two local accounts, then stop and restart all the application's services.  According to the application's maker, the accounts
    must be local.
    My colleague believes the passwords are being deleted or reset as a result of a global domain policy.  Is this likely?
    Assuming my colleague is correct, is there anything we can do locally to prevent these passwords from being deleted or reset when the server reboots?  If not, what is the most granular change we can ask our AD adminstrators to make to the policy, so
    that these local accounts are not touched at reboot.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    have you configured the accounts to have the permission "Log on as a service"? I have seen that this is not given to the account and therefore the service fails to start.

  • Managing Computers with 10.5 Server, but NOT managing Local accounts?

    I'll try my best to be clear here - I'm new to 10.5 Server and a functioning Open Directory environment! (formerly used 10.3 Server and never had the OD working).
    Environment:
    School (K-8), with old iMac G3's (10.3.9), eMacs (10.4.11) and a smattering of Mini's and iMacs (10.5.x).
    Server:
    10.5 Server, OpenDirectory and DNS appear to be working perfectly.
    User Accounts:
    Staff members have accounts for logging into sharepoints.
    No one (yet!) has server based home directories except a couple for testing.
    On each computer there is a "staff" account and a "student" account.
    These are LOCAL accounts, and do NOT have same-named accounts on the Server.
    I have bound client computers to the Server by OpenDirector
    dsconfigldap -v -f -a servername.domain.org -n configname -u diradmin -p adminpass
    Now comes the trouble;
    I have added the computers to the Workgroup Manager computers list.
    I have applied computer preference settings for the Energy Saver preferences ONLY. THey appear to have worked (managed computers slept/shut-down/started up according to the managed preference).
    NOW comes the real problem;
    The "staff" account on the managed computers is denying access to most applications on the computer!
    Note: this "Staff" account is local ONLY, and is NOT a server-hosted account.
    I have NOT tried to manage the computer preferences for applications on these computers.
    I can resolve the problem by unbinding the computer from the OD Server - but I'd prefer not to do that. I just got them all bound! And, it screws up my migration plan TOWARDS server-hosted home directories.
    I have tried managing application prefs for a COMPUTER, only to have both the STaff and Student account lose ALL of their local-only application managment settings (all of a sudden, Students can open terminal, grading programs, etc).
    I am obviously missing something!
    At this point, I'd like to back up... to NOT having my Server interfereing with the local accounts until I'm further along mapping out my migration from local-only accounts with file sharing access to Server hosted accounts and server managed preferences.
    (I will also admit I'm a bit confused about when to manage USER preferences, vs when to use managed COMPUTER preferences.).
    Tips appreciated!

    Your last question - using managed user vs. computer preferences got my attention. Mostly, I use Group managed preferences. I do use computer preferences for a laptop cart, other than that I use group preferences. Perhaps your situation calls for managing users, but using group preferences allows me to change the settings for a bunch of people all at once rather than changing settings for each user.
    In any event, check all the managed preferences for your computer level settings. And since you're using a 10.5 server, you have to check the settings for clients that are running 10.4 and earlier as well as the settings for 10.5 and later clients, as they are different.
    At the user level, if you have an OD account and a local account with the same name, the local account will determine what the user can do - I honestly don't know if managed computer prefs will override local settings, but you should look into it. This could be your problem.
    At the very least, you should avoid "testing" with systems that folks are using if you want to avoid the frustration that you are now encountering (speaking from experience i.e. similar mistakes, not preaching).

  • Macbook bound to AD won't allow network login or new local account creation

    As the title states I am having an issue related to a macbook pro that is bound to active directory. The only option we tweak when binding the macs to AD is that we opt to "create mobile account" option under directory utility.
    It also seems that while we can login through the local admin account, new local accounts cannot be created (the account creation window hangs when you create account).
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi
    To successfully bind a mac workstation to Active Directory certain things need to be in place:
    DNS has to be fully resolving on both pointers. This is done on the PDC or whatever server is the designated DNS Server.
    Date and Time settings need to be adjusted to reflect whatever is designated as the NTP Server in the AD environment. Adjust the Date & Time Preferences Pane and find out from the Windows Network Administrator what the NTP Server IP address is.
    You must use account credentials that has authority for the AD Domain. If you're trying to use your own account it may be restricted in what it can do? A domain account has special privileges not usually accorded to ordinary user accounts.
    This assumes you're (a) not the Active Directory Network Administrator and (b) you're using the Active Directory plug-in the login options section of the Accounts Preferences Pane. It's a good idea to click the "Open Directory Utility" button when binding to Active Directory. It's also a good idea to access the Advanced Section once the Utility has opened.
    If this is failing at the bind stage then perhaps you should review the details you've been given when binding to AD? It may be worthwhile to clear the workstation from the Computer OU before you try again?
    The above is not an exhaustive list but should help?
    Tony

  • Automatically sync IMAP account (provider) and LOCAL account (my Mac)

    Hi everybody
    I've searched a lot but didn't find an answer yet. Maybe someone can give me a hint.
    I'm looking for a functionality similar to E-Mail favourites in WIndows. The target is to automatically make a copy of some folders in my IMAP account to my LOCAL account. I need to have access to my old E-Mails even when I'm not connected to the Internet.
    Any ideas?

    go to mail preferences->accounts->advanced and check the option "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing"->"all messages and attachments". then you'll have them on your mac and will be able to use them even when not connected to internet.

  • Publish iCal Local Account Calendar on OS X Server

    I'd like to publish my iCal calendar (iCal>Calendar>Publish...>Publish on: A private server) on my OS X Server 10.6.7 ().
    Whenever I attempt to do this using my local account on tthe server, I get the error:
    http://username@domain_name/Home.ics is not a location that supports this request.
    I've tried all the obvious stuff: turning off the firewall, sanity checking the iCal service authentication settings, everything obvious. I believe that this is an authentication issue for local accounts on OS X Server. Because the server is set up as a standalone (i.e., no network accounts, all local accounts), Open Directory is turned off, and there's no Kerberos authentication that I'm aware of.
    Would someone please tell me how how to publish iCal calendars of local accounts on OS X Server?

    According to iCal Server Administration, OS X Server requires an Open Directory account, so you cannot publish your local account's iCal calendar.
    You can, however, use iCal itself and a modification of the OS X Hint "Publish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server" to publish local account calendars.
    0. Server Admin>Web>Sites Turn on the Web with an enabled host name. Make sure that WebDAV is enabled under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Options. Enable SSL with your server's certificate under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Security to ensure that your personal calendar information is SSL encrypted over the web.
    1. Append this directive to the end of the file /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
    Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf
    and make sure that there's no conf file in ./other that you may not wish to load, such as httpd-userdir.conf. Move these to *.conf.original or some such if necessary.
    2. Create the file /private/etc/apache2/other/httpd-webdav.conf with the contents:
    # WebDAV configureation for Publishing local account iCal calendars
    #  Based in part on Mac OS X Hint "iPublish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server Apps"
    # http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20020912065811863
    # copied from /etc/apache2/sites/0000_any_443_myserver.conf
    # which is automatically generated by Server Admin>Web
    # No need to replicate these directives here, so comment out
    #<IfModule mod_dav.c>
    #       DAVLockDB "/var/run/davlocks/.davlock100"
    #       DAVMinTimeout 600
    #</IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_dav.c>
      <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav">
        DAV On
        AuthType Digest
        AuthName 'WebDAV'
        AuthDigestFile /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
        AuthGroupFile /dev/null
    #    <LimitExcept GET HEAD OPTIONS>
          require valid-user
    #    </LimitExcept>
      </Directory>
    </IfModule>
    3. Create the apache htdigest authentication file:
    $ mkdir /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ chmod 0755 /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ touch /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ chmod 0644 /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ htdigest /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest WebDAV username
    Adding password for username in realm WebDAV.
    New password: md5 hashed password
    Re-type new password: md5 hashed password
    4. Create the WebDAV directory:
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    and sanity check that the OS X Server davlocks directory /var/run/davlocks exists [it should!] and has www:www ownership with permissions 755 [it should!].
    5. Sanity check your apache config files:
    $ apachectl -t
    should yield "Syntax OK". Then Server Admin>Web>Stop and Start to restart your web server with the new configuration.
    5. Under your local account on OS X Server, iCal>Calendar>Publish... Publish on a private server with the URL:
    https://osxserver/webdav/iCal
    using OS X Server's local account username/password. Success will be reported with a URL of your calendar on the server.
    6. Under another client account from which you wish to subscript to your OS X Server local account's Calender, iCal>Calender>Subscribe... Enter the URL on OS X Server. You will be prompted for the htdigest name/password pair you created above -- enter this, not the username/password of your local account on OS X Server. Even though you should be protecting this channel with SSL and md5, don't reuse your username/password to access the WebDAV directory you created. You will now be subscribed to your local account's iCal Calendar residing on OS X Server.
