Local Base Calendar questions

Is there a  reason to not use local base calendars especially when you have multiple project managers who will sometimes need to move working dates around?  either for weather issues or to match a clients holiday schedule?
I was just wondering since the option seems like it should be the default, but it did not come that way.
I also wanted to make sure that if we allow projects to use local base calendars that it will also upload that calendar to be used for anyone looking at the project.
probably a fairly simple answer, I just wanted to be sure.

efrizzell --
The use of local base calendars in a Project Server environment is strictly the decision of each organization.  There are certainly valid reasons for permitting them, such as when PMs need to be able to create their own custom local base calendars.
 There are also valid reasons for denying their use, so that every project must be scheduled using a valid and tested base calendar created by the Project Server administrator.
Several years ago, I worked with an organization that initially forbid the use of local base calendars.  Because of this, the Project Server administrator was hit with dozens of requests for custom enterprise base calendars.  He found the process
of creating and maintaining enterprise base calendars to be so much work that he gave up trying to control it, and enabled the permission to allow PMs to create their own local base calendars.
If your organization allows the use of local base calendars, the base calendar will be stored in the project in which it was created.  Hope this helps.

  • Project Summary and Base Calendar Reports Error Message when Saving to Desktop from Server

    We have a user that gets the following popup when she attempts to save file from the Server to her desktop:
     "The Project Summary and Base Calendar reports cannot be opened, renamed, or deleted".  The popup includes a red circle with a white "X" and an "OK" button.  The OK button must be clicked 27 times
    before the file will eventually save to the desktop.
    I have been able to replicate this error when I try to save her file to my desktop, as well.
    I can see from the Organizer that the Project Summary and Base Calendar reports are part of the Global, but not part of the file-specific reports while on the Server.  This is true for other schedules in our enterprise, so I am not sure why this is
    occurring.  After performing the save and clicking "OK" 27 times, there is exactly 27 reports listed for this file in the Organizer, but the Project Summary and Base Calendar reports are the only two that did not transfer with the file.
    What is going on here and why is it happening for just this file?  It feels like we are getting into a contention issue between the local Global.MPT and the Enterprise Global.
    We are on Project Server v2010 SP2.

    Thanks for your feedback Chris!
    When you open the organizer, check that you don't have for the project in question any enterprise object on the project side.
    Have you installed the
    latest PS2010 CU? A more radical way for reparing a file is to export it as an XML file and save/publish it back on Project Server as an MPP file. But the project UID will change thus it will cause trouble
    in case you have timesheets. You could also try to delete the project and restore it (assuming you have the daily backup in place).

  • Edit Custom base calendar

    I created a custom base calendar to use with local holidays, which I use for a number of projects.
    This works fine, but I need to add holidays. That again works fine for each project. But is it possible to edit this base calendar so that the changes are reflected in all projects that use it?
    Valgardur Gudjonsson

    From your question, I assume you use only the desktop Project and not Project Server.
    When you said, you use the base calendar for a number of projects, I assume you have created the custom calendar and shared this calendar to other project files either by using the current plan as a template or by using the Organizer.
    Desktop Project doesn't have way to centralize calendars
    Rather, if the edits needs to the custom base calendar needs to appear on other files, you need to open the current file and other project file, and select File, Info, Organizer. Select the calendar to be copied and hit copy. :)

    Here are some of the questions that I thought could be useful:
    Briefly describe about your basis experience
    What procedure would you follow to stop and restart SAP
    What's the purpose of the file arch<SID>.log
    When would you go for a full backup and when would you go for a whole backup?
    Which transaction would you use to find out the last processed and saved archive log?
    Where can I find the alert in SAP when a file system at UNIX is above 95%?
    Where in SAP can I find if SAPOSCOL is running or not
    What would you do to start SAPOSCOL?
    How to find what's the latest patch level for HP-UX
    Whats the procedure to install patches?
    What kernel level were you at?
    Whats the procedure to Upgrade Kernel?
    What is a system copy, why would I need a system copy? How often have you performed a system copy? Can you explain the steps involved in performing a system copy?
    How many Oracle upgrades have you performed for SAP?
    Have you performed a language import to your system?
    Explain your typical day of spool administration?
    If I want to know who made the last change to a specific role how would you find it?
    Which transaction would show roles added and removed from a user?
    What is Central User Administration? And how would you perform user administration in a CUA environment?
    Can I make any config changes in Production server?
    Assuming the Development server is open for changes but, when you perform a config change and save it, its prompting you to create a transport request. What would I have to do to save config changes without creating a transport?
    What storage array have you got exposed to?
    What tape drives have you administered?
    How would I stop a backup job at the Unix level?
    What command would I use to find if a tape drive is UP or not?
    Award points if my post is helpful.
    Thank you.

  • I want to know what for is the "Sync" button in Lightning and if there is a way to sync my LOCAL Lightning calendars between two computers. Thanks

    I want to know what for is the "Sync" button in Lightning and if there is a way to sync my LOCAL Lightning calendars between two computers. Thanks

    sync is about synchronizing network calendars. Simply create a network calendar and synchronize it on multiple machines and forget local calendars.

  • Publish iCal Local Account Calendar on OS X Server

    I'd like to publish my iCal calendar (iCal>Calendar>Publish...>Publish on: A private server) on my OS X Server 10.6.7 ().
    Whenever I attempt to do this using my local account on tthe server, I get the error:
    http://username@domain_name/Home.ics is not a location that supports this request.
    I've tried all the obvious stuff: turning off the firewall, sanity checking the iCal service authentication settings, everything obvious. I believe that this is an authentication issue for local accounts on OS X Server. Because the server is set up as a standalone (i.e., no network accounts, all local accounts), Open Directory is turned off, and there's no Kerberos authentication that I'm aware of.
    Would someone please tell me how how to publish iCal calendars of local accounts on OS X Server?

    According to iCal Server Administration, OS X Server requires an Open Directory account, so you cannot publish your local account's iCal calendar.
    You can, however, use iCal itself and a modification of the OS X Hint "Publish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server" to publish local account calendars.
    0. Server Admin>Web>Sites Turn on the Web with an enabled host name. Make sure that WebDAV is enabled under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Options. Enable SSL with your server's certificate under Server Admin>Web>Sites>Security to ensure that your personal calendar information is SSL encrypted over the web.
    1. Append this directive to the end of the file /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
    Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf
    and make sure that there's no conf file in ./other that you may not wish to load, such as httpd-userdir.conf. Move these to *.conf.original or some such if necessary.
    2. Create the file /private/etc/apache2/other/httpd-webdav.conf with the contents:
    # WebDAV configureation for Publishing local account iCal calendars
    #  Based in part on Mac OS X Hint "iPublish iCal calendars with local WebDAV server Apps"
    # http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20020912065811863
    # copied from /etc/apache2/sites/0000_any_443_myserver.conf
    # which is automatically generated by Server Admin>Web
    # No need to replicate these directives here, so comment out
    #<IfModule mod_dav.c>
    #       DAVLockDB "/var/run/davlocks/.davlock100"
    #       DAVMinTimeout 600
    #</IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_dav.c>
      <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav">
        DAV On
        AuthType Digest
        AuthName 'WebDAV'
        AuthDigestFile /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
        AuthGroupFile /dev/null
    #    <LimitExcept GET HEAD OPTIONS>
          require valid-user
    #    </LimitExcept>
      </Directory>
    </IfModule>
    3. Create the apache htdigest authentication file:
    $ mkdir /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ chmod 0755 /private/etc/apache2/httpd
    $ touch /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ chmod 0644 /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest
    $ htdigest /private/etc/apache2/httpd/.htdigest WebDAV username
    Adding password for username in realm WebDAV.
    New password: md5 hashed password
    Re-type new password: md5 hashed password
    4. Create the WebDAV directory:
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav
    $ mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chown www:www /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    $ chmod 0755 /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav/iCal
    and sanity check that the OS X Server davlocks directory /var/run/davlocks exists [it should!] and has www:www ownership with permissions 755 [it should!].
    5. Sanity check your apache config files:
    $ apachectl -t
    should yield "Syntax OK". Then Server Admin>Web>Stop and Start to restart your web server with the new configuration.
    5. Under your local account on OS X Server, iCal>Calendar>Publish... Publish on a private server with the URL:
    https://osxserver/webdav/iCal
    using OS X Server's local account username/password. Success will be reported with a URL of your calendar on the server.
    6. Under another client account from which you wish to subscript to your OS X Server local account's Calender, iCal>Calender>Subscribe... Enter the URL on OS X Server. You will be prompted for the htdigest name/password pair you created above -- enter this, not the username/password of your local account on OS X Server. Even though you should be protecting this channel with SSL and md5, don't reuse your username/password to access the WebDAV directory you created. You will now be subscribed to your local account's iCal Calendar residing on OS X Server.

  • Can't Delete Local iPhone Calendars

    Has anyone else had issue with being able to delete local iPhone calendars.  I have about 5 and I need to delete 3 of them.  I open calendar, click the Calendars button in the top left hand corner on the iPhone and then edit and open each calendar and delete.  It deletes the calendars events but then under the calendars it still lists it as a calendar?  Very weird, I have tried it 100 times and it never deletes the actual calendar, keeps it in the calendars lists, just deletes the entries.  HELP?

    The problem is solved.
    The command that solved the problem was:
    *sudo chmod -a# 0 ~/Library/Preferences/*
    The brief shell script that diagnosed the problem was:
    #!/bin/sh
    *ls -l@ed /*
    *ls -l@ed /Library/*
    *ls -l@ed /Library/Preferences/*
    echo
    *ls -l@ed ~/*
    *ls -l@ed ~/Library/*
    *ls -l@ed ~/Library/Preferences/*
    *exit 0*
    The problem arose when a calendar event was copied to the clipboard, then pasted back to a different day, during an iTunes 7.1 software update.

  • Calendar question(s)

    APEX 3.01, RDBMS 10GR2
    I am new to the APEX tool. Two calendar questions, please.
    (1) I have a requirement that the values in the calendar object ("year" drop box) need to go back to 1800. Currently, when selecting on the calendar object, the earliest year available is 1920. Any ideas on how to expand the range of "year" dates to allow the user to select as far back as 1800?
    (2) My requirement calls for limiting users to selecting the calendar object for populating the date field. Currently, while users have the calendar available to populate a date field, they are not forced to use it - ie. they could fill in the date field with a valid date and not use the calendar. Is there a way to limit user input of date fields to use the calendar object only?
    Thanks in advance,
    Barry D.

    Chrissy,
    Thanks for the suggestion on how to force the user to use the calendar instead of entering data directly into the date field box. While setting the HTLM Form Element Attribute to "disabled" works for entering a new date [user cannot input directly into field, must use calendar], however, when I save my record, the date field is not saved to the database. All other elements are saved to the database. The saving of all data elements including the date, was working prior to this change. When I removed the suggested element attribute from my field and save a new record, all data is saved.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Barry D.

  • Huge Local Mac Calendar to my iPad

    Hello,
    I have a huge calendar locally on my macs calendar app. It has more thank 40.000 entries.
    Since I know that iCloud has a limit of 25.000 entries does anybody knows how could I bring it in to my iPad ? I dont care about syncronazation because it never changes...
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm sorry I don't have an answer. But I am curious, how do you accumulate over 40,000 entries in a calendar? I would have to have had 780 entries per year from the day I was born. I'm not in any way trying to say this isn't a valid question. I really am just curious.
    Best of luck.

  • 10.5.3 Local User Account Question

    I'm sure this is an extremely basic question. I don't understand OD/LDAP/Active Directory. I’ve got a mac mini I use as a home media server. I mistakenly added a login item using System Preferences and now the account can’t login locally. It is no longer recognized as a valid local account, but I can still check email, access wiki's, etc. When I login as root, WorkGroup Manager says the account only exists in ldap://127.0.0.1 and won’t let me login locally. How can I convert the account back to allow local access, and maintain access to email, calendar, etc.?
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hi Vin,
    What's happening in your scenario is that you have your Access Policy/Identity using only AD1, this will force the ACS to check only in the Active Directory database.
    If you want to use both databases you need to create an Identity Store Sequence, this is done under "Users and Identity Stores/External Identity Stores/Identity Store Sequences"
    In this section you need to define both databases like the example below:
    Then you need to use this option under Identity. Check below:
    Let me know if it helps.

  • LDAP External Authentication Multiple Search Base DNs question

    hi,
    im trying two add two LDAP search DNs to a portal 6.2 organisation.
    with one search base dn it works fine.
    when i add another, all ldap auth for that org stops working.
    the docs confusingly state that if you have multiple search dns (not talking about multiple ldap servers here - just the search base dns) that you should prefix each entry with the local server name. the docs however provide no examples of the syntax.
    can anyone provide an example for multiple search dns? e.g. is it <server:port>:o=<etc> (doesn't seem to work).
    thanks

    hi,
    yes i have.. but when you enter more than one it stop working... with only one entry in the gui it will work for that entry but when you add another it stops working...
    i had to use a manual workaround like this to get the second going... :(
    External ldap authentication
    register the LDAP authentication service in the gui and setup the first DN as normal.
    create the first set of entries for the ldap host and the base dn in the gui as normal etc.
    the gui in the admin console is not working (depending on your point of view), so you need to add the second ldap config manually -
    All commands are run from the /apps/jes/SUNWam/bin directory
    1. Get an encrypted value for the bind dns (cn=Directory Manager) password you want to bind to the ldap directory as by using the ampassword utility shipped with Identity Server.
    ./ampassword -e directory_manager password
    More information on this utility can be found in the Sun ONE Identity Server Administration Guide.
    2. Copy the encrypted password as the value for the iplanet-am-auth-ldap-bind-passwd in the XML file (serviceAddMultipleLDAPConfigurationRequests.xml) created in Step 1. The XML file contains a template for creating the second LDAP DN.
    3. Modify the data XML file accordingly so that the relevant details are provided for the 2nd ldap server (bind dn search base etc) and load this into the portal directory using the amadmin command line tool as follows from the /opt/SUNWam/bin directory
    ./amadmin -u amadmin -w administrator_password -v -t serviceAddMultipleLDAPConfigurationRequests.xml
    If the imported xml values are incorrect delete and reload the imported xml data using amadmin command tool. Alternatively you can modify the ldap data directly on the primary identity server (ldap server) using a client browser though this method is not supported .
    You should be able to see new imported values for the second ldap server at dn:ou=subconfig1,ou=default,ou=OrganizationConfig,ou=1.0,ou=iPlanetAMAuthLDAP
    Service,ou=services,ou=ORG,o=lgaq.qld.gov.au on the primary ldap server (where ORG is the organisation you wanted to add the second DN).

  • Calendar questions

    I've just been to an O2 store to have a play around with the iphone, it looked great and seemed to work as good as I expected it to. A couple of questions though, can the events in the calendar be colour co-ordinated like in ical (i.e. blue for personal, green for work) and is there a week view (I only noticed list, day or month). Also, can you only play videos purchased through iTunes?
    Finally, did anyone else notice the demo iphones were the 4GB model?
    Damien

    Hi
    i dont know about the UK version but the US version - the calendar is not color coded - but is a button for Today, List mode, Day and Month - in day and month mode there are arrows to scroll back and forth and a + button to add events
    as to iTunes - you dont have to buy music from iTunes - you can load parts of or entire cd's to it and then download them to the phone (dont know if that works for videi) - there are also in the iTunes store a lot of free Podcasts you can download and then sync to your phone
    in software version 1.1.1 you couldnt make ringtones out of anything but music you bought in iTunes - on this forum folks are saying that in 1.1.2 (which is what comes on the UK version) you can now make ringtones out your own music and load them to iTunes which would then download to your phone next time you synced it ( if you turn on the option to sync ringtones)1.1.2 hasn't been released in the US so i cant verify that
    Itunes lets you synch everything or you can selectively sync certain categories

  • Calendar question on the 9530...

    Hello everyone. So this thread might be better in the newbie section, but since the storm is so different than the other BB's I figured here is a good place to start. I've had my storm since April 2009 and am just starting to use the calendar. I use google sync and have had good luck putting appointments (my work schedule) in on my google calendar then syncing it to have the appointments on my BB storm.
    My problem is with understanding how the native calendar on the storm works. I looked through the FAQ, but not much on the calendar.
    I am interested in learning a little more about the different calendars that I can chose from. Right now I have 3 (Facebook, [email protected], and [email protected]) They each have a color associated with them (green, blue, and orange respectively).
    I have my work schedule under one calendar (becuase this is how goggle sync works), however becuase I have 2 jobs, I wanted to have a different color for the busy time be different between the two jobs so I have another indicator of where I am supose to be that day (Am I flipping burgers at MacDonalds or at Burger King).
    Can I create different calendars on my BB to put the two jobs on or is it easier to just keep them on the same one and differentiate them by changing their color?
    Is there a way to find the next appointment quickely? I looked at the agenda view, but it just lists the morning alarm each day.
    I use my storm to wake me up in the morning with the alarm, but I don't want this displayed on the calendar. Is there a way to set this so it does not show up?
    Is there a calendar app that you think is better than the native app?
    Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Steve

    hello,
    about the alarm thing, you can use the Alarm application instead of creating a calendar event.
    you can also look at third party alarm/reminder programs.
    The search box on top-right of this page is your true friend, and the public Knowledge Base too:

  • IPhone 2G Calendar question, PLEASE.

    All I see for the calendar here is about syncing. But I have no problems with that.
    My problem is that my Calendar goes from Sunday to Saturday and I'm very used to calendars that go from Monday to Sunday.
    Is there ANY possibility to change it?? I posted this on several online question sites and no one knew and I don't see it here either. Is there a possibility??
    Thanks a bunch.

    This is determined on your iPhone at Settings > General > International > Region Format.
    You must select a Region Format with a default calendar that goes from Monday to Sunday.

  • Why do I have 4 calendars (local, home, calendar in icloud and calendar) in outlook now?

    when I set up icloud my Outlook went crazy and has produces 3 calendars in addition to the one I had already. They have different colour schemes and names (local calendar in icloud;home in icloud;calendar in icloud). What are they? Do I need them? Can I get rid of them and just get back to one calendar?

    Go to iCloud.com, login and see how many calendars exist there, delete the ones you don't want.
