Local DCs to DTR DCs

Hi everybody
I am in the current scenario:
I have developed 4 inter-depending DCs under Local Development and they build fine in local NWDS.
My NWDI consists only of DTR.
I want to share my DCs on the DTR for other developers to edit/view/ecc but I would like to keep my source files just where they are.
I would like to sync the files I actually am working with and not some copy in C:\NWDI synced folder\workspace folder\workspace\...\...\DC folder.
Can that be done? It seems such a basic requirement from a VCS to me.
Alternatively I would highly appreciate suggestions as to how move inter-depending DCs from Local Development to DTR development without messing up all the DC dependencies (it happened before to me).
Thanks

Hi Pascal, thanks for your reply
It reads:
=================
Open the NWDS, Development Configurations Perspective. Select the
Development Configuration for the development system of the SC
and go to the "Inactive DCs" View.
Navigate to the DC of interest and sync only the sources
=================
Actually in Development Configuration Perspective I only have Local Development: standard SCs and MyComponents SC.
Under myComponents I have all my DCs.
Upon selecting my Development Configuration the Inactive DCs (as well Active DCs) is totally empty.
Keep in mind that I only use DTR.
Could you please provide some more detail info? I believe I am leaving something out.
Thanks in advance
Vincenzo

  • Unable to find DC in Inactive DCs in DTR

    Hi,
I am able to see all my Development Components in Active DCs of DTR but I am unable to see Development Components in the Inactive DCs of DTR ?
What I need to do so that I can get the Development Components in Inactive DCs  ?
    Thanks...

    HI,
May not be the right solution but try out this.
    1. Refresh the node in inactivetab
    2. Close the NWDS and open.
    3. Lastlly try to upgrade configurations
Also check if you can find under the inactive node in DTR.

  • Migrating DFS from Win2k3 DCs to Win2k12R2 DCs

    Hi,
I have been hosting a DFS mapping on Windows 2003 servers these past years. The DFS mapping is only used to combine several shares on site file servers into one share /  mapping.
So S: what the user sees is \\domain.company.tld\TopShare
and TopShare has several directories called <sitename> each linked to \\SiteServer.domain.company.tld\FileShare
    No replication is involved.
I now want to move everything to our new 2012R2 DCs. Can I simply add DFS to those DCs, add them to the existing DFS structure and remove the old 2k3 DCs?
Or do I need to do something extra, because the whole DFS structure has changed a few times after Win2k3 ?
In that case, WHAT do I need to do extra? There is probably a good KB article about this but just searching for DFS etc gives WAY to much hits. :-(

    Hi,
We can use DFSUTIL.exe tool to export a specified DFS namespace to an XML text file and later import this information back into a new DFS root. Before a DFS configuration file can be imported, the target namespace must be manually created on the new server.
You only need install the "DFS Namespaces" role on the new server.
For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below:

  • Importing LOCAL DCs of Service Component and UI Component TO DTR

    Hi dear SAP Community,
I tried to import my local dc's of a service component, a mobile ui component and an application component to our dtr without Nwdi.
    Result: 3 destroyed projects.
I tried to create a folder in the DTR and synced all the files and folder to the new dtr destination. But only half of my files were cut and pasted to the dtr workspace and the project folders on the dtr were allmost empty.
Is it possible to import local dc's to the dtr without using nwdi.
    Thank you in Advance.
    Best Regards Philipp

I am pasting an email response when I asked how to take locally developed DCs\SCs and put into NWDI's DTR.
I am not sure if by "our DTR", you are referring to a separate DTR like CVS or still SAP DTR .
I did this using the copy and paste feature in the Development Infrastructure. Once you imported the old and new track into your IDE, you can simply drag and drop a DC from one SC to another SC (even if the SCs are located in different tracks). Or you can use the copy and paste options from the context menu of the DCs in the Component Browser.
After this operation, the DCs are not zet in DTR. They are just stored locally on your disc (you can check this if the DC icon in Component Browser has an overlay icon which shows a blue house). Now you can add the DCs to DTR using the context menu action (called Add to Source Control). Please make sure that all required files are really added to the activity. The following folders including their subfolders and files have to be added to DTR: cfg, def, MOBILE-INF, src and .dcdef
I have used this method more to copy DCs from one track to another.

  • How to bring PCUI_GP DCs to local development environment

    Hi,
I want to create a fresh FPM based application in local development environment.
For this I need to add the PCUI_GP DCs as used DCs.
Currently they are not available in local development environment but only in DTR Track...
How do i bring these DCs to local...?
Please advise(I do not mean just by creating project from inactive Dcs but to make the whole PCUI_GP DCs available in Local)
    Thanks,
    Rocky

    Hi Rocky,
Have you deployed the PCUI_GP component separately, As it is required very much, You can find the same on service.sap.com/swdc.
Please deploy the same and the check out the results.

  • DCs are broken in consolidation only

    Hi All
I have a Software component which is imported from an old NWDI
I the new NWDI I have a track consist of this SC + the 3 standard SCs (JEE, JTECHS and BUILDT)
I have checked-in all the components into the transport studio. And transported them all the way to assembly.
The SCs are all building perfectly in development.
l have  also checked out all DCs in NWDS, all DCs are compiling as they should here also.
But, when I try to assemble the components on the server I get error messages. (The Check-assembly.log file)
    Info:Starting Step Check-assembly at 2011-02-21 15:56:24.0882 +1:00
Info:Checks for software component mycorp.com,COMMON are performed now:
Fatal:Contact CBS administrator: Nonempty list of broken DCs -stopping export now
    Error:list of broken DCs:
Info:Step Check-assembly ended with result 'fatal error' ,stopping execution at 2011-02-21 15:11:32.0190 +1:00
If I look into CBS BuldSpaces Information, I have this these information regarding the DCs
TRACK_C:  Total DCs: 17, Broken DCs: 17, Dirty DCs 0
TRACK_D:  Total DCs: 189, Broken DCs: 0, Dirty DCs 0
To me it looks like the SC from SAP is somehow not available for assembly, but when I read the log statement, It only mentions the DCs from my own SC.
The three SCs is available on the test tab, so I know that they have been assembled succesfully.
    Best Regards
    Søren Madsen

    Hi Søren,
it is indeed then very strange how comes that the DCs haven't been imported in the first place (I mean the "Total DCs" column that displays 0 for the CONSolidation buildspace). You said that the import into the consolidation was succesful ("import finished" for each SCs on Consolifation tab of the "Transport Studio of CMS") .
Can you please confirm the followings?
1 a Restore System State in CONS, and a new import of all the SCs brings no solution, but still 0 is displayed in CBS webui, however CMS states that import finished succesfully in case of each SC imports.
2 deleting the CONS buildspace, (you can do it in the main "Buildspace" view of CBS webui), resaving the track (this will recreate _C) and proceeding as described in point 1 brings no solution. Please delete only _C.
3 As you know an import stands of "a) DTR Repository import, b) CBS-Make and c) Deployment". If you go to the "History" of the Consolidation tab (in CMS), you list the imports took place in the past, and you click on a finished import, and press the "Details..." button, you can confirm that all of these 3 steps were really succesful as per the logs and traces. Do the same for each SC.
You also stated that after you faced this phenomenon, you tried a restore system state in DEV, and tried a new import and it was succesful. Can you please check the History, and via that all the Log Details (as mentioned above) of all the imported SCs ? Were the imports really succesful ? Can you try again a Restore System State in DEV and a reimport after you resave the track ? Are the SC still not displayed on the CONS tab after a succesful import on the Development tab ?
    I hope this helps.
    Thank you!

    Ervin

  • 2008R2 DCs not being used to log on

I have an environment with 4 domain controllers. Two are running 2003, and two are running 2008R2. One of the 2K3 DCs hold all FSMO roles. All DCs are GCs. 2K3 servers are placed in the local site with most of the clients,
while the 2008R2 ones are placed in the Datacentre. But there is only one site defined in AD (Default-First-Site-Name). So even if the clients are placed in the same site as the 2K3 DCs, they should still not prefer these DCs.
The thing is that none of the 2008R2 DCs are being used to authenticate against the domain. There are no logon or logoff events in the security log of both 2008R2 DCs, while there are plenty of such events in the 2K3 DCs. They all have the same audit policy.
Even when you log on to servers/clients placed in the Datacentre, you will authenticate against the 2K3 DCs. There are no replication related errors. Everything is being replicated back and forth just fine between the DCs, the 2K8 Dcs have registered their
SRV records in DNS, and they have the same weight and priority as the 2K3 ones.
In other words, there is no reason why some users/clients shouldn't use the 2K8 DCs to log on, yet none of the users/clients are doing that.
    What could be the reason?

    Hi,
Have you tried to shut down the Windows 2003 Domain Controllers, then monitor the authentication process?
Based on my research, during the process of logon, Net Logon service sends a datagram to
every Domain Controller which has registered Service Resource (SRV) records on the DNS server, and every
available Domain Controller responses to this datagram.
The thing is, Net Logon service will only return the information to clients about the one Domain Controller which responses
    first.
After a successful discovery process, Net Logon service
caches the Domain Controller, so that when the next time clients logon, they will try to reach this Domain Controller
    directly.
In addition, I agree with Denis about creating a new site, it will facilitate proper authentication process, also share workload and avoid unnecessary network traffic between
    different subnets.
You mentioned that you want to demote Windows 2003 Domain Controllers, the site container can remain there even there is no Domain Controller as Denis said. You can also promote
another Domain Controller and keep using the old subnet.

  • DCs being removed from 'Used WebDynpro Components' list

    Hi,
I am having a problem while creating a project from an already activated DC. The DC uses 6 other DCs and was built properly, activated and deployed from a client machine. Now I need to have this DC in my machine (also a client). So I made sure the DC is built & synced properly and proceeded with the project creation from the inactive DC.
The DC is getting created in my machine, but the Used DCs, though being shown properly in the 'Used DCs' List is missing from the 'Used WebDynpro Components'. And if I try to add a new DC under the 'Used WD Comp' list or edit the component usage of an existing DC, the added DCs are not available for selection.
    <a href="http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcerror1ac.gif">Error Screenshot</a>
I have tried removing and adding the DCs from 'Used DCs' list, reopened the project, restarted the NDS, did a sync, but nothing could help me to resolve this.
Could someone kindly help me to resolve this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Nibu.

    Hi Pran,
As you already know now, the problem has been resolved :). But for the benefit of others like me let me put down what happened:
On seeing Pran's reply, Since he is an acquaintance of mine, I called him up & explained my problem.
As per his advice, I checked the DTR and found that the entire DC structure has been added there. But from him I could learn that only the following folders/files should be in DTR:
    - cfg
    - def
    - Meta-Inf
    - Model Folder
    - src
    - test
    - .dcdef file
Therefore, the rest of the folders/files were deleted and the activity was checked-in. This resolved the problem and all the missing DCs were being shown again.
Pran, Thanks a lot for your help.

    Nibu.

  • Webdynpro application with multiple DCs

    Hi,
I have an application where it is splitted in to multiple DCs for the team development. Now at runtime there are navigation happenening across DCs, means on click of a button in view1 of DC1, it needs to call view2 of DC2. What is the best way to achive it? Is there a way to direcly call a DC component at runtime?
    Any help?
    regards,
    Sujesh

    Hi Sujesh,
First I want to point out, that DCs do not communicate with each other. DCs are designtime constructs which comprise development entities with runtime and/or designtime relevance. Inter-DC calls are Inter-DC-object calls.
Is your question related with the problem how to communicate between Web Dynpro components of separate DCs? To answer this question you must know how to develop Web Dynpro applications based on using separate DCs. This is done by defining DC-usage relations based on Public Part Definitons. When these DC-relations are correctly set up you can use Web Dynpro entities from other child DCs in a parent DC as if these entites would be contained in the parent DC. The runtime dependencies (sharing references etc.) are defined automatically.
Regarding your "Best Design" question I reply with a simple but quite effective principle: <b>"Favor DC-separation of Web Dynpro development entities!":</b>
    - Separate Web Dynpro components in separate DCs
    - Separate Web Dynpro Models in separate DCs
    - Separate Local Dictionaries in separate DCs
    - Separate Web Dynpro Component Interface Definitions in separate DCs
    - Seaprate reusable Web Dynpro components in seaprate DCs.
    Best regards, Bertram
