Local files that are not there are still visible
In my local files I can still see some albums that are no longer on my Macbook but strangly enough I can still see them??I can even push play, but (of course) nothing happens when I do this.I would like to erase these albums or not see them but how?? In my preferences I have switched off al the local/iTunes tracks etc so I don't see anything else, but they are still there......????See attachment for the "off line tracks" (that don't exist) and my settings
I have the same problem, but a removal and fresh install of the application did not resolve the issue. My original issue - which may be related - is that Spotify will not play some songs. I'm guessing it wants to play a local file instead of a cloud file by default. Somewhere along the way, the local filie (on a network drive) was not available. Then, when I try to play the song in any location, it will not play, move the scrobbly bar. nothing. I have thus far...* Deselected the local files in the app preferences* Removed the storage folder / 'cache' of local files* Removed the application* Reinstalled the application As the OP says and shows, my local files still appear in the list with no option to remove. Oh, and they won't play either.

Aperture stuck relocating a master (original) file that is not there.
While relocating original files, Aperture stops on a certain file or two that it thinks is there. When I search for the exact file, it does not exist. The issue is on files that are usually named with a number at the end for duplicates or copies like DSC_1234 (2).NEF. I have had corrupted cameras, memory cards, bad memory card readers and new MacBook Air issues so I will admit my Aperture library is probably not incredibly stable. I have rebuilt it using the Command-Option dialog and this issue still persists. After this I will be exporting projects out of this library and start a new but was wondering if any one had any solutions in the mean time?
Logging out worked!
I tried quitting, pressing escape, and tried force quitting by holding the shortcut Command-Option-Shift-Escape button for 10+ seconds and nothing worked. Instead of force quitting I tried logging out and a second window came up saying it was "Updating for sharing previews" then it quit and logged out. -
I need to intercept all local files that are being loaded in Firefox. How can that be achieved?
I am using geckofx in c#. I need to intercept response of a local file load request so that I can modify some data/response before it reaches Javascript.
In short, I need something like
1. JS requests browser to read a file.
2. Browser reads content of a file.
3. MAKE SOME MODIFICATIONS TO DATA (Additional Step)
4. Then pass this modified data to JS to perform required tasks.

Is there an automated way to scan my multimedia folder for files that are there and not in my i tune library and add them to y existing library ?
I recenty had a damaged i tune library and had to import an old version.
This last one does not have many of the CD I have copied the past months. And I don't know which ones these are either as they are too many of them.This will list files that are in the iTunes DB but the files are not in the media folder…

I think it may misbehave with ringtones & some of the obscure media files, but they are both really powerful for repairing mangled libraries.
I would create a new smart playlist for 'Tracks added since (todays date)' so you can easily find any tracks that you add back to iTunes.

I am not able to Sync. My iPOD classic 80Gb. It tells that as iTunes can not read the contents-restore to factory settings- after restoring – it tells that it can not be restored bcause there are files that are used by other application. My iPOD appears in My Computer in drive H as a mass storage generick volume
Try disabilng the Enable Disk Use option from under the iPod's Summary tab, applying the changes, and seeing if that helps.
Otherwise, temporarily disabling any antivirus, security, firewall, or file indexing software that may be running on your system and then try restoring your iPod again.

Apparently you can have 5 computers registered for iTunes. I have 3 active computers but I guess I have other computers that are still activated that I no longer use and I no longer have as they crashed. Is there a way to delete or see what the other computers are so that I can go in and delete them? I've tried to email Apple directly but apparently I need my hardware # and obviously I do not have that # since I don't have the equipment any longer. Any help is greatly appreicated. I am trying to add another computer and it won't allow me to as they say I'm at my limit. Please help!

Just open up iTunes on your computer -> Go to the iTunes Store -> Click your e- maill address (top right corner of the window) -> Type in your password for your Apple ID -> Under Computer Authorisations (underneath your Apple ID account balance and address) -> Press 'Deauthorise All'
-> This will deauthorise all computers and devices from your iTunes account -> you then need to re- authorise any computers/ devices you would like to use with your Apple ID for iTunes content -> to do this, select the Store tab along the menu at the top (where 'File', 'Edit', 'View' etc..... are) -> Then click 'Authorise this Computer' -> Type in your Apple ID -> Voila!
For any iOS devices (non- computers) you wish to re- authorise, these will automatically do so when you go to play iTunes content, download an app or anything like that on those devices!

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).

After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
(2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)

After updating to iTunes 11.0.4.,
iTunes 11.0.4. can't locate thousands of files (they are still on the harddisk though).
is there a way to simply relocate them (without having to do it manually for each individual song which would take forever)?Are these "thousands of files" in an iTunes library that simply cannot be found?
If so, assuming you know exactly where they are, hold the "Option" key while opening iTunes from your dock. You will then be given a "Choose Library" option. Choose it and point to your library. -
Files that used to be visible are now hidden in Mavericks 10.9.1. How can I change the setting to view the same files as before? I do not need the hidden files that are typically invisible.

Where are the files going to be that you want to save.
Time Machine, if that is what you are talking about, can only save files that are locally stored on disks that are HFS+ format. TM is specifically designed to use the Mac format.. it cannot work on network drives. It cannot work on other format drives.
If you are not specific to Time Machine.. your computer can save files on the TC.. that are stored anywhere just by copy and paste.. but the TC is not really a good storage . .It is unable to back up itself and TM as noted already cannot back it up. -
My macbook pro keeps saying I have 450 gigabytes out of 500 that are used. But when I look on finder there are no files that are anywhere close to that amount. I went through and deleted files from my mac and now I only have 10 gigabytes of additional space free. My mac now says I have 440 gigs of other that is used. But does not make sense, do I have a virus?

"Missing files" that are not missing
I am running LR 1.1 on a Windows MCE (effectively, XP) SP2 machine. The
library panel in the library module (which lists "All photographs",
"Quick Collection", etc.) shows "Missing Files 11". However, on
checking those files in that collection:
1 There is no question mark on the thumbnails indicating that LR has
lost track of them.
2 Right clicking on any of the thumbnails and choosing "Go to Folder in
Library" immediately shows the correct photo in the correct folder (all
are from the same folder and are Canon RAW files).
3 Right clicking on the folder name in the folder panel and choosing
"Synchronize Folder..." shows only one missing photo (which LR
persistently claims is damaged and refuses to import) - which is _not_
among the "Missing Files".
In other words, and in brief, LR seems to think some files are missing
although it in fact it knows they are not. (I have checked they are
present on the disk.)
For what it's worth, I usually do not tick "Include Photos from
Subitems" on the Library menu in the Library module - but even when I
did I could not get the problem to go away, so it doesn't appear to be
related to that.
While clearly not a huge problem, I am baffled and feel I have
overlooked something obvious. Can anyone assist, please?

I really like your approach, since no XMP data or deleting and reimporting of files is needed. However in my case it does not work on all the pictures marked as missing in one folder. After copying (moving doesn't work in MacOS, since files can be located no matter in which folder they are situated, so moving them has no effect in Lightroom) and relocating the folder in Lightroom (version 1.4.1 for MacOS), only a few files (5-10) in each folder are removed from the 'missing files' list. Repeating the procedure a number of times eventually clears the list, but when there are 160 files missing in a 4GB folder, this can take a while...
By accident I discovered that there is a way to correct all files at once in one folder when this happens. After moving/copying the files to their new location and starting Lightroom, select the files in the 'missing files' list and export these files. Where or how is not important, neither is the output (sometimes Lightroom will give an error, telling you it could not export the files because they are missing, sometimes there is no error at all and the files are exported normally). What is important however, is that this export somehow makes Lightroom 'aware' of all 'missing' files in a folder and not only the first 5-10, as was the case before.
After the export, continue with the procedure as described by Bruno, so select one of the missing files and click on the question mark to point out what the new location of the files is. In my case all 160 missing files in one folder were removed from the 'missing files' list at once, saving me a lot of time and work :).
So if you also have problems with files not being removed from the 'missing files' list, here is the new procedure (new step proceded by + sign):
- Close the lightroom library.
- Move the picture files to a new directory.
- Open the lightroom library.
- Now all files will show as missing and a question mark will appear
at the right of each thumbnail. The folders will also appear in red.
+ Export all missing files in this folder, so Lightroom is 'aware' of
all missing files and will correct all of them.
- Select a folder and click on the question mark of one of the
thumbnails to map the location of the picture to the directory in
which it was moved.
- Repeat the above step for each folder that appears in red.

I am trying to clear files from my computer. I have a bunch of .m4v protected files that will not delete. They are lectures from college that I do not need anymore and would like to delete them to make room on my computer. I have looked at the help sites and they seem to give directions to change files that people are saving in the future and not regarding past files. I am unable to change anything about the file including the name, so I can not change these past files from .m4v to something else which is deletable such as .mp4 etc. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!
Well, most of what we can tell you is already stated in the message you are getting. A phone can only sync with one library at a time. You have apparently synced your phone with a different iTunes library in the past, or changes have been made to this library so the phone no longer recognizes it as the library with which it was synced. To know which you will have to provide the information.
If you bought them using the AppleID you use with this phone it may simply be easier to re-download them directly to the phone rather than sync them, though you will want to resolve that issue at some point.

I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file. I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix issues I had fixed in the single files. I need suggestions on what else can be done if any. Using Acrobat pro XI.
Out of habit, I tend to combine PDF files in the Page Thumbnails pane by right-click then "Insert Pages" -> "From File". For me, this preserves the tags from both documents, although the tags may have to be moved into the right location (if I recall correctly the tags for the inserted pages get put at the end of the tag structure, regardless of where the pages are inserted), If I first put the tags for the document to be inserted inside a container tag like Section, it makes the process easier. Moving that set of tags to the right place is the only re-fixing that I recall having to do. What behavior are you experiencing?

When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.
