Local help system in Mountain Lion?
Recently upgraded to ML from Snow Leopard. Whenever I request help it downloads it from the internet; no local help is available. This includes accessories, like Safari, Notes, etc. I did some cleaning of the caches in ~/Library, as sugested by an internet posting, but no results.
My problem is that I don't have a continuous connection to the internet; besides, there is the delay of dawnloading the info every time I request it.
Machine: MB Air, late 1210 model
OS X 10.8.1
Thanks for any sugestions.

After updating my system to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I can no longer view videos on Facebook or other sites. The only one I can view videos on is youtube. I have downloaded Adobe Flash player and still no luck. I cannot even open Preview on my computer anymore. Any ideas would be helpful thanks
Merely clicking the Preview icon in the Dock doesn't cause it to open anything, unless you had one or more windows open the last time it quit.
If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, triple-click the line below to select it:

Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. Only way is if you made a backup of your system before you installed Mt Lion.
Or if your system came with Lion Pre-Installed you boot to the online recovery system, Hold down Command+option+r at startup until you see a spinning globe in the center of the screen. -

You can purchase and download Mountain Lion in the App Store (in your 'Applications' folder), then just run the installer: however you should first check that Mountain Lion can indeed run on your Mac. Please see this page:

I've come across the same thing, and went to the Mac App Store and downloaded and installed Xcode through that.
However, it seems to have put the new Xcode.app straight into the Applications folder, whereas before (v 4.2.1) was installed in Developer\Applications\Xcode.app. In fact, it still is!
How do I uninstall everything that belongs to Xcode 4.2.1 from my system, but leaving Xcode 4.4. It seems parts of the new Xcode (4.4) have been put into the \Developer\ folder as well, so it's not obvious what I would need to delete... Can anyone shed some light on this? -

I have replaced my hard drive on our 27" Imac and upgraded the op system to mountain lion. Once all done and collected from apple, i have found my word and ecel have expired and are requesting me to repurcahse the items. As they were purchased almost 4 yrs ago I have no idea where the original box or codes / product key / passwords are. What can I do to get around this problem. In addition my time machine only goes back as far as the op system upgrade.

The only problem that I forsee is that some have reported problems getting machine-specific builds of Lion via Internet Recovery. Not sure if it's working yet or not. But you could give it a shot, I suppose. Basically what you want to do is 'prepare your computer for resale' - just like it came out of the box. Kappy, a pretty wonderful and very knowledgeable man, has tip for that which I have copied and will paste below:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

If so, proceed as follows.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Help! UI mountain lion installation

I have a mac mini (circ. 2010). its UI becomes non-responsive after it wakes up displays from sleep. The UI seems frozen. When the displays are asleep, moving the mouse or punching the keyboard wakes the displays up. (I have two)
When I move the mouse to hot corners, even though I don't see the mouse cursor, the displays fall asleep. Rebooting the machine of course brings back the mouse and So it doesn't seem to be a bluetooth hardware issue. Rebooting the system brings back the UI resposiveness, until mini displays are put to sleep again.
The behavior just started after upgrading to Mountain Lion. The computer doesn't have any rogue processes, and it hasn't crashed. I can ssh into the box. The system and process are behaving nicely. I can see the shares on the mini and manipulate them from another machine. I cannot, however, connect via "Share Screen"... That seems to just cycle.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Message was edited by: Elf KingYes, restart the computer and then run Software Update. If you still have trouble then your installation or download may have become corrupted. This would mean you need to start over or take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP for them to help you. If you have been backing up then it shouldn't be too painful.

How do I connect to a Windows 7 File System from Mountain Lion
I am wondering how to connect via Finder to Windows 7 hard drives.
I have Mountain Lion and I have been able to connect to a Windows laptop on my home network.
Go to 'Go' in Finder and select 'Connect to Server'. Put in the server address as smb://[ip address] / [server machine name]
You will find the ip address by running 'ipconfig' in the CMD application on your Windows 7 machine. You will find the server name also in Windows under System in Control Panel. Good luck - it works but it is temperamental sometimes I have found and reboots on either machine often help !!!! -
Please help me install Mountain Lion from my USB on my ERASED Macintosh HD partition.
Hi, So my Macbook 7.1 (running macosx 10.6.8) was running really slow due to poor user maintenance. I decided that i should purchase Mountain Lion and install it over the 10.6.8 version. That worked but my computer turned SUPER SLOW. So i decided to completely startover and erase the partition, and install from the USB. Unfortunately for me this is where my skillset ends, and I need help.
After erasing the Macintosh HD, i created a new GUID partition, and then clicked Restore. I dragged my USB drive under the "source", and dragged my new partition under the "destination". That didnt work so i erasaed the partition again. At this time, i got an error message saying that i cant erase the partition because its not unmounted.
So thats where Im at. I guess i need to know how to unmount the drive, then how to erase it, then partition it, and then install Mountain Lion from the bootable USB.

NickI did the erase from Disk Utility. At the time I had started the computer by holding down Ctrl+R, so i am not sure which recovery drive it used. I can say however that I do still have the recovery partition.
Im a bit dense when it comes to Apples. How do i go about re-installing from the recovery? Also, how do i get around the unmouting issue? -

Is it possible to install two operating systems on a mac running OS X Mountain Lion?
I would like to setup Snow Leopard and keep Mountain Lion on seperate partitions.
Can this work?As long as your Mac shipped with SL or less you can do it. You'll need to put SL on another drive or partition your existing hard drive. I prefer a seperate drive. Then when you need SL just boot from your SL drive.
