Local hosted exchange (2013) to Full Online Office 365 for School District : Pointers for migration appreciated!

Good afternoon all,
The school district I manage is currently using locally hosted exchange server(s) for mail.  (Server 2012 box that has Exchange 2013, and an older Server 2008 box that has Exchange 2010)
We are wanting to make the migration to full online Office 365.  We're talking about 450-500 mailboxes maximum.
In order to do this as seamlessly as possible, I need some help.
Any of you pros that have any gotchas/recommendations/best practices or walk-thrus for this i'm all ears.
Thanks so much, i really appreciate any help that can be given on this.

Vasil, thank you very much for this...it really helps a lot. One question for you, and i hope i'm understanding this correctly. In our school district, we have 2000+ students, and 350~ faculty. We will still be locally managing our users (who will
be tied to email addresses that will then be hosted in office 365) through local active directory. Will this be a problem? The only reason I ask this is because of reading this: Do you want to manage user accounts in your on-premises organization? No (listed
for cutover) We will keep our user account management (if that's what this is talking about) local on the DCs that are on our domain through ADUC. Is this what it's talking about, or is it talking about managing their email addresses? Maybe i'm making this
more difficult than it is... thanks for all the help!

  • Integrating CRM with hosted Exchange server that is not Office 365

I started out by setting up our domain, but it seems to be pushing me to add loads of DNS records so that Office 365 can use it.  Firstly, do I have to use an Office 365 hosted Exchange, or can I use an alternative (my Exchange is hosted with COLT CEANO)
When I try and create an email server profile, I only have the ability to specify a name and description - the fields to specify incoming and outgoing servers etc. are not visible.
I expect I am doing something fundamentally wrong, can anyone assist ?
    Thanks.

If you are refering to the email function in CRM, then you have 3 option
    1. Server side sync
    2. Outlook client
    3. Email router
You can use your own exchange to send out email.

  • Can't move Users from On Premise Lync 2013 to Lync Online (Office 365)

    Hi all
I try to move a single User from a local Lync Installation to Office 365 Lync. Everything is working locally, but in the Lync Powershell i face the following error:
The User with the following SIP-URI can't be found in the Active Directory. HostedMigration fault: Error = 201.
I didn't found anything on the web for the Error 201.
The User exists, and is synchronised with Azure AD eg Office 365. He has an E4 Plan.
    Help would be very appreciated!

    Hi,
Please check if the federation SRV record point to the local Edge Server.
Please make sure the Sign-on and directory synchronization works normally.

  • Migration exchange 2010 to hosted exchange 2013

    Hello,
Tried to search for a good solution for what I need but always redirected to places of office365.
I will explain what i need and maybe you could find me a good solution.
I have several offices that i give IT support. Some of them with exchange 2003 and some with 2007-2010.
I want to migrate their servers to my new hosted exchange 2013 (multi-tenancy).
Is there a way to do CutOver migration?
    What are my options?
P.s. All offices are working with calendars so PSTing their mailboxes is out of the question.
Hope you understand what i wanted to do.
    Thanks for the help.
    Lior.

For what you're planning, a cutover migration would be best.  For that I would recommend a tool like Migrationwiz (http://www.migrationwiz.com).  You can start the migration in advance, get the data copied
and then do a final incremental move on the cutover date.  In addition to the mailbox move, you will want to synchronize the directories and ensure that the legacyExchangeDN property of the source mailboxes appear as proxy addresses of type
X500 on the target mailboxes or else they won't be able to reply to old mail or use Outlook contacts or cached addresses.  I don't recall whether MigrationWiz can take care of that for you or not.

How to Get user profile properties in provider -cloud hosted app in sharepoint online - office 365 using REST API?
    any idea?

    Hi,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to get user profile properties in provider-hosted app in SharePoint online using REST API.
Here is sample code for getting user profile properties:

How to get sharepoint online (office 365) data in cloud/windows azure (provider) hosted app using Javascript?
I wish to retrieve sharepoint online data in html page (hosted in windows azure) using javascript and then need to play with AngularJS

    Hi,
According to your description, you might want to get data from Office 365 SharePoint Online(also known as host web) and pass to the Provider Hosted App which is hosted
    in Windows Azure site.
I would suggest you take a look at the links below about accessing data from the host web

  • Migrating Public Folders on Exchange Server 2007 SP1 to Exchange Online\Office 365

    Hello,
Our company is looking to migrate from Exchange 2007 on premises to Exchange Online/Office 365. We have a number of public folders on our exchange server that function similarly to how the new shared mailboxes work in Exchange Online. That is to say that
we have many outside users (customers and wholesale dealers) emailing this public folder ([email protected]) and our end users are given permission to view and respond as themselves ([email protected]). I've been looking all over but haven't found a clean
way to migrate the current public folders directly into shared mailboxes. I'd just start from scratch, but we want to keep the records of the emails we've received at these public folders for customer support reasons. Can anyone help?

    Hi psh8989,
According to your description, I know that you want to migrate public folder from Exchange 2007 to Office 365.
Since Office 365 is different from Exchange On-Premises, I suggest ask Office 365 Forum for help so that you can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/default.aspx
However, I can also share some information for your reference : )
Based on my knowledge, Exchange supports moving your public folders to Office 365 and Exchange Online from Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. I notice that your Exchange server version is SP1, please upgrade to SP3 RU10 first and perform migration.
    More detailed information to see:

  • Error during the migration of Lync 2013 onpremise user to Office 365 Lync

    Hi,
I am trying to migrate a Lync 2013 onpremise user to Office 365 Lync in a Hybrid environment.
I am connecting to the Lync server from my machine with the following commands
    $lyncOptions = New-PSSessionOption -SkipRevocationCheck -SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck
    $lync = New-PSSession -ConnectionUri https://lyncserver/ocspowershell -SessionOption $lyncOptions -Authentication NegotiateWithImplicitCredential
    Import-PSSession $lync
In the next step I am trying to migrate the user to the Office 365 Lync:
    Move-CsUser -Identity "username" -Target 'sipfed.online.lync.com' -HostedMigrationOverrideUrl 'https://admin1e.online.lync.com/HostedMigration/hostedmigrationservice.svc'
After that I get a warning message due to to migration to a previous version which I accept.
WARNING: Moving a user from the current version to an earlier version (or to a service version) can cause data loss.
    Confirm
    Move-CsUser
[Y] Yes  [A] Yes to All  [N] No  [L] No to All  [?] Help (default is "Y"): y
Then I am getting the following error message:
Can not load Live Id module. Make sure correct version of Live Id Sign-in assistant is installed.
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Move-CsUser], CommonAuthException

Tried to Google it but found nothing.
As far as I can see it is complaining about the Live ID Sign-in assistant, which is installed (the 64bit version) on my computer but not on the remote server. Does it need to be installed on the server as well?
Thanks for the answers in advance.

This error related to reporting services, you need to verify that reporting services is installed on these instances.
Secondly, you didn't need to create this instance manually then setup monitoring role. delete this instance from shared storage and try again to setup rule using different instance name and it will create automatic on shared storage.

  • Exchange 2003 On-Premise to Office 365 - Easiest Migration Path

We would like to migrate our domain from an existing on-premise 2003 Small Business Server to Office 365.   We only have 2 users so I am looking for the easiest upgrade path.
We will be retiring the SBS 2003 Server and have purchased a Windows 2012 Server to use strictly as a files server post-migration.
I would like to split the migration into 2 phases:
1 Migrate the Exchange Server functionality to Office 365 in Phase 1
    2. Migrate the file server function from SBS 2003 to Windows Server 2012 in Phase 2. Sicne I only have 2 users, I am going to kill the SBS 2003 domain, create a new local domain, and migrate
    the profiles and files.
    The questions I have:
    1.
Can I migrate the domain mail server functionality to Office 365 and just import the PSTs for the 2 accounts.
I have perused the migration documents but I think it would be easiest just to import the PSTs for 2 users rather than setting up the Outlook Anywhere on a 2003 Server.
    2. Will I be able to initially manage the Active Directory accounts in Office 365 and then move that functionality back onto the Windows 2012 Server when that comes on-line?
    3. If I am overlooking any issues other than those that I have mentioned, please provide feedback

    Hi Biraj,
From your description, you would like site mailbox to have two email address.
Since the issue is related to SharePoint online and Exchange online, I'd recommend you contact online support engineer for sufficient resource and more assistance. For your convenience:

Can I rename a site mailbox?
The display name of a site mailbox is the SharePoint team site display name. If you change the display name of the site in SharePoint, the display name also changes in Outlook. However, the site email address won’t be changed.

  • Lotus notes migration to SharePoint online Office 365

    Hi there,
My organization is looking to migrate from Lotus notes to SharePoint Online Office 365 (SharePoint 2013).
We are doing this without any help of a tool.
I am going to create the wiki pages.
There are around 1600 pages which are interlinked and approximately 15 links on every page.
Is there any means I can automate the linking of wiki pages.
Can a workflow be written to do so..??
    Please advise
    Many thanks.

Yes, this can be automated. However in doing so you're effectively building your own tool which will cost more than buying a pre-built one.
This isn't going to be possible with a SharePoint workflow. First you'll have to read the Lotus notes content, then you'll want to serialise that into a format for import and clean up any links or dead pages. Then you'll have to use the CSOM or REST
APIs to create, populate and publish those pages.
This won't be a quick task.
