Local Mailboxes on iPhone

Wondering if anyone else has this going on and if there is a solution.
I own an iPhone 4 operating on iOS 6.0.1 (10A523)
Whenever I select emails from the common Inbox then click on the "move" button, the iPhone mail app presents me with a list of mailboxes - most of which are either draft, set or deleted messages folders from accounts I have already deleted from my iPhone.  All folders are empty.  The last is a folder that appears named  x-apple-transient-drafts that appears to have content.
I was wondering if anyone here knows of a way to purge these wayward items from the iPhone.

I have Deleted Messages under Advanced set to Never, but do not have anything available to change about Server settings under Incoming settings - just SSL, Authentication, IMAP Path Prefix, and Server Port.
As already provided, this is an IMAP account.
All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. You can select to store the account's Drafts, Trash, and Sent mailboxes on the server or locally, but the account's Inbox mailbox is stored on the server and cannot be changed.
When deleting a message from the account's Inbox mailbox with an IMAP account, the message is removed from the account's Inbox mailbox on the server and transferred to the account's Trash mailbox. This will be reflected automatically when checking the account's Inbox mailbox with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account since all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
If you have the account's Trash mailbox set to be stored locally, you can try transferring the messages from the account's Trash mailbox back to the account's Inbox mailbox so these messages will be available when accessing the account's Inbox mailbox with the email client on your computer.

  • How can I transfer a local mailbox to another user account on the same computer?

I have two user accounts on the same computer. I actually never really wanted two accounts, but a second one was generated when I chose to use the Migration Assistant to transfer my account from a previous computer to my current one, and I never did anything to delete the second one. Anyway, I have been using Mac Mail to view my work email messages from a Microsoft Exchange server. Awhile back, I was running out of space on my mail server, and decided to download a bunch of my email messages to local mailboxes in order to free up space.
Recently (for reasons that are not terribly relevant) I have decided to switch between the two user accounts on the computer. I have transfered all of my documents, apps, etc. to the new account. However, I haven't been able to find a way to transfer all the email that is in those local mailboxes, so that they are viewable/usable in the new account. Could somebody suggest the best way for me to do this? I am no longer going to use the old account, so the two do not have to be synced. I just want the mailboxes to be available for the new user account (with the same organizational structure).
I am currently running Mavericks (just upgraded last week).
    Thanks,
    JEG

    A quick update....
I copied the folder in ~Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes that contains all of my local mailboxes over to the same location in the new account. When I go into mail, the entire file structure is there, however it does not let me view (or search) any of the messages. The messages can be accessed through the Finder, though.
I tried to "Rebuild" the local mailboxes, but it didn't seem to do anything. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • HT4191 iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.

iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

  • Instant Search not working on local mailbox in Outlook 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server

Sometime last week Instant Search stopped working on a Terminal Server we have deployed. I don't use Outlook on the server so I didn't notice it myself but users started complaining several days ago. When I checked instant search settings everything was
grayed out. I noticed that the feature for Windows Search was disabled so I enabled that feature rebooted the server and now instant search is looking for email in archive folders and sharepoint lists. Local Mailbox mail however is not being indexed by instant
search. When I check data files it says that there is no file for the local mailbox. I checked and Cached Exchange Mode is disabled so no OST is being created and apparently there is no PST for it either.
Do I need an OST/PST to search the local mailbox?
Also I have added the Office GPO Templates and enabled the GPO for allowing Cached Exchange Mode but that doesn't seem to be helping either. Please help.

Have you had any luck with this?
One of our clients has reported that 5 different users, when RDP'd into 3 different RDS Servers, cannot use the Instant Search.
I haven't been able to find anything about this in my online searches.
Like you, the mailboxes aren't even appearing under Instant Search > Search Options.  Also, it would appear that there are no locally-hosted .ost/.pst's for any of the users on this server; can the instant search function work on a .pst that's saved
    somewhere else on the network?

  • Emails in local mailboxes disappearing

I have a POP account and I'm accessing it only from one machine, my G5 dual 2GHz with 8GB RAM. Since I switched over from Eudora over the weekend, Mail.app has caused no end of headaches for me.
Occasionally, emails stored in various "On My Mac" local mailboxes have seen fit to just vanish, leaving what looks like a blank mailbox. Rebuilding the mailbox doesn't work. On the occasions that the emails do show up as a list, when I click on any individual email, it displays the infamous "The message from <Name> <[email protected]> concerning <Subject> has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." message (which shouldn't be happening since the emails are already stored locally on my hard drive--this is a POP account after all and nobody has access to it but me and I'm only using one machine to access it). I have to re-import the emails using Mail.app's built-in menu option to do so. I cannot use the "remove the Envelope Index" trick because, in total, I have in excess of 560,000 emails in over 460 mailboxes that I need access to when searching for emails on a certain topic and having Mail.app reindex everything takes something close to 5 hours. I cannot be down for 5 hours. I have already run "Repair Permissions" using Disk Utility and have gotten a clean bill of health.
Is there anything I can do to make sure that my locally-stored emails just display their contents and not give me the dreaded " The message from <Name> <[email protected]> concerning <Subject> has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." message or just display blank mailbox(es) and not have to rebuild the damned thing(s) all the time? Why is Mail.app so fragile anyway? I've used Eudora for decades in POP mode and have never experienced the problems that Mail.app has given me in a mere weekend.

The recommended mailbox size limit for Tiger Mail is
2GB. Do any of 460 mailboxes approach or exceed this
    limit?
I thought this artificial limit was removed after Panther? You're saying that it still exists? I sort my mailboxes by years so they are stored in this hierarchy:
<Topic> (contains current messages about <Topic>)
    - <Topic>-200x (contains messages about <Topic> in year 200x so there could be many mailboxes at this level; when 2007 ends, I will have a <Topic>-2007 mailbox which I will move all email about this topic into, leaving the <Topic> mailbox only containing current emails for the year on that topic)
Now, this 2GB limit, is it just for the *.mbox folder or for just the Messages folder or for any hierarchy? When I do a "du -k" in some of my hierarchically filed mail, e.g., ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Apple Lists, I get this:

Which, as you can see, totals out to around 1.26GB for the ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Apple Lists hierarchy and none of the individual .mbox or Messages folders exceeds 2GB. And some of the above folders have been the ones exhibiting the vanishing emails (i.e., they are there when I look at something once and then they are gone the next time I try to look again in those mailboxes). I've even experienced the disappearing mailbox phenomenon in mailbox hierarchies which, in total, do not exceed 500MB for all subfolders.
The "has not been downloaded from the server" error
message is not accurate and indicates what is called
an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which means the
mailbox has approached or exceeded the recommended
size limit or the mailbox has some corruption.
Oh crap. Sigh. I never had this issue with Eudora which has a 32767 email limit regardless of size of individual emails, attachments, etc.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. All
imported mailboxes are located within an Import named
folder located within the Mailboxes folder - Home >
    Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Import > imported
mailboxes - which appear as folders at the Finder
level and include an .mbox extension.
Within any .mbox folder at the Finder level is a
Messages folder (which contains each message stored
in the mailbox as a separate .emix file) and an
Info.plist file. Any other folders and file names are
left over from the import process which are not
needed by Tiger Mail but are not deleted after the
import process is complete and can sometimes cause
    problems.
Does "Rebuild" delete the Info.plist and recreate it?
There is also a Eudora mailbox cleaner utility which
    may be helpful here.
Yes, this is what I used to bring my mailboxes over from Eudora. It doesn't work very well and I'm in contact with the developer who has given me a beta to try and it's a little better.
    Do you sleep? ;~)
Rarely. I sometimes get by on 4 hours a night.
This can be done before you go to bed which will be
completed in the morning when you wake.
I was assuming that the "Remove Envelope Index" trick was to be used when in dire need, not a nightly event. Are you saying that it should be a nightly event? Sometimes it doesn't even complete, leaving some mailboxes in the same state as outlined in my original post, whereupon I have to do the "Import Mailboxes from Apple Mail" trick from within Mail.app itself but this gets old fast since I have to move the contents from the Import(-x) hierarchy to its "proper" place in my mail hierarchy and then wait for it to "rebuild" which takes a while but nowhere as long as 5 hours. Maybe 20 to 30 minutes. But multiply that by a couple of mailboxes and my day is shot.

  • Import local mailboxes from one account to other in the some computer

I need to import local mailboxes from one account to other in the some computer. I have tried copy/paste from one user/library to other, but mail went crazy with permission and even if I changed them manually now Mail can't save the passwords of the mailboxes, so I need enter each time Mail check the mail from the server. Any idea?

You need to let Mail do the Import, and not do this manually in the Finder.  However, if you force a reindexing things may get back to normal.  This assumes you are not talking about mailboxes in account folder, but rather On My Mailboxes?
To reindex all mailboxes force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html

  • Archive vs. new local mailbox

    Morning.
I want to streamline a mailbox that contains appr. 15'000 emails from the last five years. What would you suggest:
    a) To make an archive.
    b) To create a new local mailbox and move the most of the emails into it.
    TIA and kind regards, Friedrich

I'd recommend archiving if you want to keep your organization intact. It's essentially the same thing to creating a new mailbox with respect to your current mail folders in that messages will be moved out of your working mailbox to ease up loading times, etc. However, with the archive those messages should still be recoverable to the same location, whereas a new mailbox will just have them in a different location.

  • How to enable local sharing in iphone

How can I enable local sharing in iPhone 4S?

Hi Matt, I need to send IPA files downloaded on my iPhone to my iPod, I don't use iTunes and I was told that it's possible to send files wirelessly via local sharing.

  • Synching emails directed to'local' mailboxes

I have mail automatically directed to local mailboxes 'on my mac' using 'rules' but those emails do not show up on my icloud connected iPad. How do I get these emails to show on the iPad? Will Mountain Lion fix this problem?
Is there a solution/workaround? This has been driving me nuts since getting the ipad a few weeks ago. Several times I've missed getting back to folks because I was using the ipad & didn't know they had emailed me.
    Thanks, hoping someone can help.
    Ian

    Thanks Roger.
OK, I thought that it should be a simple task to just drag the mailboxes 'on my mac' to 'icloud', but after a couple of hours of sheer frustration I guess I need some more help.
A couple of mailboxes were successfully dragged across from 'on my mac' to 'icloud', message count was correct, & they showed up on my ipad.
However most of the mailboxes do not behave like this. The message count is wrong with things like multiple duplicate messages (eg. one mailbox had just 17 messages but 40 something duplicates. On the ipad the duplicates dates had changed to 1/1/70 & could not be deleted - had to delete the entire mailbox.)  With other mailboxes not all messages were copied across into icloud.
I also tried making new mailboxes under iCloud & transferring messages across manually by selecting & dragging, and by copying/cutting & pasting....... all with much the same results.
So far I have resisted trying any of this with the mailboxes that contain stuff I really don't want to lose, with thousands of emails going back to 2004 in many (100+) mailboxes.
    HELP!
How do I transfer the mailboxes from 'on my Mac' to iCloud ......... Can this be done, or should I just leave them where they are & set up new mailboxes. If the latter it seems a rather 'clunky' way to go forward (poor continuity).
    Thanks
    Ian

  • Password protect local mailboxes in Mail? + AOL Communicator ?

A friend wants to know if they can password protect local mailboxes like AOL Communicator on Mac OS X Mail. Anyone know how without FileVault?
In addition if you know why she may be getting this error, that would be helpful too:
"Failled to initialize NSS. Run Identity Manager first to create the NSS databases or check for free disk space."

I'm looking for a simple solution like this too. How can we seriously work with email and also work live with others too? It's as if OS X wants all the laundry in everyones face... Unless there some modesty is built into Mail.
I think this post might suggest a better way-- Use an external HD for mail boxes.

  • Need a script for archive/copy IMAP Emails older than 25 days to local mailbox

    Hi there,
I am really troubling with archiving my IMAP mails. So far I was using standard rules, which have a major drawback - they only work on incoming mails. But I want to copy only mails to my local mailbox that are older than 25 days. The reason is that by copying all incoming mails, mail also copies all spam and unimportant mails into the local mailbox. However I only want to copy the mails that I was able to read and consider to be important, which I am able to do within a couple of days. However, I am not able to to that on a daily basis and that is why I chose the 25 days window, because my hoster deletes them automatically after 30 days. I read in a lot of forums that rules wont help, since they only work for incoming mails, therefore I am guessing that I would need a script because I want this to be automated and only applied to mails that passed the 25 day timeframe. Is the anybody that could help me out? Thank you so much in advance.

    Hi adayzdone,
thanks for your reply but I am not a Gmail user, I am using Strato. Therefore the handy Google Scripts won't help.
I need a script in Apple, that only copies or moves the mail from my inbox to a local mailbox once they are past the 25 days line. Within those 25 day I have deleted all unnessecary mails, marks or higlighted the important once and know only the remaining once are worth keeping. But I still want them to be available in Mail and none of those archiving solutions that create pdfs or import them into their one database will help.

  • More dissapearing mailboxes - 10.4 migration "lost" local mailbox

I recently got a new iBook running 10.4, and transferred my old user account across (from a 10.3 system). I had all the IMAP stuff come across OK, but I also had a local mailbox, called Archive, with an archive dating back to 2001. Mail now thinks that's an IMAP mailbox which isn't in sync with the server (You need to take this account online in order to download it blah blah). All the messages are listed, but unopenable. In ~/Libarary/Mail/Mailboxes I have a folder called Archive.mbox, which is about 800M. About half of that is an mbox file. So the data is there. How do I get this new version of mail to recognise it as a local mailbox and not an IMAP one?
    iBook 1.3Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Tiger Mail doesn't think the Archive mailbox is an IMAP mailbox stored on the server. This error message indicates an "overstuffed" mailbox issue that was brought over from Panther Mail or brought to the surface with the mailbox conversion process to Tiger Mail.
Did you create a backup copy of the Panther Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail before upgrading to Tiger?
    If not, try the following.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Archive.mbox. Copy the Archive.mbox folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Within the original Archive.mbox folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes, delete all files/folders except for the Info.plist file and the Messages folder. The mbox file and any other files/folders within the Archive.mbox folder are left over from the mailbox conversion process to Tiger Mail. These are no longer required by Tiger Mail and are not deleted after the conversion process is completed.
Launch Mail and select the Archive mailbox in the drawer. At the menu bar, go to Mail and select Rebuild.

  • How to locally backup multiple iPhones with different IDs

Hi all, I have a simple need to backup 2 iPhones using different Apple IDs.  I understand that I can use iCloud to backup each on the cloud and no issue there.  But when I ran local backup for both on the same computer, here comes the problem...
The 2 iPhones have some overlapping apps, but separately purchased on two accounts.  It seems that iTunes only keeps one copy of those overlapping apps, namely only the copy using the ID of the first phone in the sequence of backup.  So when I try to restore on the second phone, it will simply install those overlapping apps using the copy stored locally, which does not belong to the second ID.  This seems to create a lot of confusion later on when apps are updated, since the second user will be prompted to enter the password of the first ID.
I suppose this kind of scenario is not uncommon.  Is there a way iTunes can properly deal with this?  Or did I not do the backup/restore correctly?

Thanks, Lyssa.  I guess that probably will work, but feels like an overkill for a simple task.
By the way, I am using iTunes on PC.  So the default path for media folder is C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media, and the apps are stored in the Mobile Applications sub-folder under that path.  I wonder whether it will work to backup the first phone as usual first, change this path in the Advanced Preferences to another user created folder, and then backup the second phone.  During restore, I assume one can do the reverse and restore each phone while this path in preference is set accordingly.
That's just an idea I have come to, inspired by your solution of changing user account... haven't tried it out yet.  I have to say, even that sounds like an inconvenient workaround.  Is there any more elegant method I wonder...?
