"Local Network Operator" on my Lumia 920

I know many of Lumia 920 users have similar issue. Is there a proper solution from Nokia???
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I've seen this issue on UK Lumia 920 (and 820) when used with a virgin mobile sim card.
Some have said getting a new micro sim solves the problems whilst others say the upcoming major update in February solves it. May also help if you have the latest version of "Network+" and "access point" installed on the phone which you can get from this link:

You would need to return to U.K. for warranty service. The iPhone warranty is not international.

  • Lumia 920 Offline Maps

Could anybody confirm that Lumia 820 and 920 have real offline maps? Meaning that even if no SIM card is inserted in the phone or if I am out in the forest somewhere with no network coverage, or if roaming is turned of, that the maps really are functioning as they do in the Nokia C5-00.

    Hi, thanks for your replies
How could I see that the offline Maps are working in "real" offline mode in the specification?
The specification for the Nokia C5, which I currently use, says:
    Navigation features and services
    OVI Maps
    Positioning features
    GPS
    A-GPS
If I want to use the C5 in "real" offline mode and the roaming turned on, I have to disable the A-GPS function, which uses the network.
In the Lumia 920 I can't see that the feature GPS is available, it says only A-GPS.
Could it be that only the maps are working in offlinemode but that you still need a network for the positioning to work?
I purchased a Lumia 900 and returned it after discovering that it didn't have the GPS function, this time I want the be sure before purchasing a Lumia 920.

  • Microsoft Lumia 920 Windows Phone 10 Technical Preview no network (with active sim card)

I updated the Nokia Lumia 920 to windows phone 10 last night and now doesn't recognise the sim card EE (T mobile uk) which is inserted inside it. What can I do to fix this?
I have tried resetting the phone this improved the network WIFI connection. But the phone still didn't recognise the SIM card.
    Device Information
    Model: Nokia
Mobile Operator: EE (so it recognises the operator?)
Software: Windows® 10 Mobile Technical Preview
    OS Version: 10.0.12534.59
    Firmware revision number: 3051.50009.1451.1028
    Hardware revision: 6.5.0.0
    Radio software version: 1.0.202184.3
    Chip SOC version: 8960

    Greetings Michael,
I performed the two functions you suggested, dism.exe
/online /cleanup-image /restorehealth stated "Error 0x800f0906 The Source files could not be downloaded. Use the
"source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077
Then, according to sfc /scannow, it stated: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios."
At this point. I may attempt to install the ISO on a flash drive, and perform a repair on the OS, unless you have some other advice! Thanks for your help!

  • SIM card missing or invalid in Lumia 920

    Hi!
I've seen a couple of similar posts but found no answer to my question so please let me tell you my story:
I bought a brand new unlocked and unbranded Nokia Lumia 920 (got it from the UK to be used in Ireland). I ordered a micro SIM from Tesco Mobile and when I inserted I got the message "SIM card missing or invalid", I thought that this may be due to the card not being active yet but when I put the card on a different phone first I was requested to enter the PIN and then I was advised that the card wasn't active, in the 920 it was just "SIM card missing or invalid".
I activated the SIM and transferred my number, put it on the 920 and again "SIM card missing or invalid", back to the old Nokia and working. So it had to be the phone but it was new so I ordered Micro SIMs from every possible company, until now LycaMobile and 48 have not worked but Meteor has, I've tried at least two SIMs of every company that failed to work the first time. Some of them were active, some not, some of them were empty some already had a number, as said only 48 worked and works from day 1.
I noticed that the chip on the SIM was a different size, I mean, all SIMs are micro SIMs the same size, but the Meteor one has a smaller chip (the copper part where the info is stored), I checked all the other SIMs that I had in the house and some of the older SIMs had smaller and some larger chips but until today I had been able to swap them all in my old phones with no problem.
I started looking for information online and tried the hard reset, it didn't work, I read then that I should use the card for a while in a different phone so that the SIM was perfectly connected to the network, I did so with one of the Tesco Mobiles SIM but when I tried it in the 920 "SIM card missing or invalid", I am thinking now of updating the software but I don't know if this will solve anything.
Any ideas? Anybody experienced the same issue and was able to find a solution?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Sebas

No idea but the fact that most of the other sims don't when I know for a fact that they all do because I've used them all. Perhaps there is a pin slightly out of place and for some reason it catches the meteor sim but not the others. I can't think of anything else.
Just something to check. If you goto Settings>Extras+info>More info>Mobile operator, do you have 000-GB?

Can you clarify your concern for better assistance? Are you trying to connect your Lumia 920 to your office internet connection? Or, are you trying to connect your PC to your Lumia 920? Do you encounter any error message?
If you're having an issue with internet sharing, please try the following:
Make sure your operator mobile data plan subscription allows WiFi tethering and your carrier has enabled internet sharing on the phone (if you have an operator variant). Check with your carrier for details.
Switch Off Battery saver mode or connect a charger.
The cellular network may not be in range or has a weak signal to provide a successful connection. Check the signal bar at the top of the screen to ensure you are in good network coverage.
Make sure that the security type and password settings match on the phone and connecting device.
Make sure your connecting device (e.g. laptop or tablet) allows WPA2 (AES) security connection. If possible, try to create a connection with some other device.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lumia 920 support for LTE in Korea

So I purchased an unlocked version of the lumia 920 from an online retailer and just received it today. I popped in my 3G sim that I was using with another phone and it connected fine and well. 3G speeds were fairly fast. 4g speeds are very fast in Korea for phones that are sold here and want to experience those speeds on my new phone. I would like to upgrade to a 4G sim with accompaning plan with my current carrier in Korea, but my question is if it is even possible to do this...
After doing some research, I found some websites with some interesting information...
    seekingalpha.com/article/1071481-nokia-lumia-920-there-is-a-non-lte-version-nokia-forgot-to-tell-inv...
    www.expansys.com/blog/?p=2096
According to the above sites, 4g is disabled in the firmware for factory unlocked phones. Is this true?
It also showed a set of pictues of the packaging's device labels - one showing the 4g lte bands and one without.
Checking my phone's box and it is without the 4g lte frequency information.
Both of these sites mention something about Nokia "working with the carrier" to provide an update that'll make the phone compatible with that carrier's 4g network. Is this accurate information? In the best case, i could just buy a 4g sim, change to an accompaning 4g plan, replace sims in the phone and have 4g connectivity.
But if 4g is disabled for persons who purchase global unlocked  versions and want to use it where nokia has near to no presence in (Korea for me) and like the above site says - have to wait for nokia and the carrier to provide an update, what steps have to be taken for 4g to be enabled? Do I have to make a formal request somewhere? Is there an automation process where this update is automatically generated? Or would I have to just wait and pray for something to happen...
Being a Nokia fan in Korea has its rare downs.

    Hi mate,
Yes if you have purchased a version of the 920 from overseas that has LTE disabled for the moment (due to the fact that the 920 variant that you have purchased is made for a market where 4G is not yet available e.g. the case with the 920 I have that is for Great Britain), then the LTE functionality will be enabled in a future update that is for sure, when LTE service is available in that variant's country.
Have you checked if you already have 4G on your 920? Goto Settings > Mobile Network, and check under "Highest connection speed" if there is a 4G under the 3G and 2G already there. If it is really bothering you though and there is no update on the situation after a couple of months or you wish to do it now, please contact your local Nokia by clicking the Nokia Support link at the bottom of this page.
    Hope this information helps you.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 internet and MMS settings

For the Lumia 920 our local cellular company(Du UAE) is not able to provide Internet, MMS settings. Nokia has launched this device exclusively with Du(UAE). Can you please help in this regard. How we can configure our handset to use all features in it. Local Nokia care is not responding to this questions.
    Thanks,
    Nodirbek
Moderator's notes: Post moved to own thread.

The Lumia 920 is designed to extract network information from the sim card if the information is on the sim. Sounds like their sim may not contaiun this information. If this is the case, you can manually set it up. We won't have the settings for your network so they will have t o give you that. Once you have the settings, goto Settings>Accesspoint>Add, and just fill in the boxes with the information provided by your network. This list will also tell you what information you need. Would be an idea to have this page open when you ring your network.

  • Lumia 920 cannot connect to London Underground Vir...

    Hi there,
I have never been able to connect to Virgin WiFi in London Underground since I have had my Nokia Lumia 920 since December 2012 (it says "connecting..." for a while, then says that it could reach the network, altough the signal is strong). I used to be able to connect to that network without any problem on Windows Phone 7, using a Samsung Omnia 7 or a Nokia Lumia 800. This has been tested at different stations where Virgin WiFi is available.
    OS version: 8.0.10211.204
    Firmware revision number: 1232.5951.1249.1018
Note: I'm a an EE customer and I am register for free Virgin WiFi on London Underground. I do not think it's an operator related problem since I cannot even connect to the WiFi network.
Note 2: I have no problem connecting to my home or work wifi.

UPDATE: The mod's edited my post and unfortunately removed some of the explanation of why my connection to the tube wifi has been restored. I didn't mean to cause trouble, mods - sorry! Am I allowed to confirm that manually flashing the most recent 920 UK EE firmware has instantly restored my tube WiFi?
    Hi,
Just thought I'd update, if anyone's interested.
Manually flashing the most recent 920 UK EE firmware has restored my tube WIFI connection - the phone connected instantly this morning when I selected Virgin Media. I do, however, seem to have lost the updated 'Storage Checker' option in the Settings menu that appeared with the original OTA update. Still, you win some, you lose some. I use the tube WIFI far more often so I'd rather have that.
It seems that, at least with my phone, every OTA firmware update renders me unable to connect to the tube WIFI. Manually flashing either the same firmware or a different version restores it, but comes with the tedious hassle of losing some settings.
I'll just have to see what happens with the PR2.0 update that's apparently coming in July...
Moderator's Note: This post was edited to remove references to an unauthorized software mentioned. Use of this may cause unforeseen damage to the phone.

  • Lumia 920 - RM-821 - 4G/LTE enabled?

    Hi,
I was told by the Nokia Care Center that my Lumia 920 does not support 4G and it is a 3G variant.
I was curious as to how one identifies this?
Is it the hardware revision? Mine says 6.0.0.1.
But what is curious is that the box that the phone came is says that it supports 4G/LTE.
    Thanks,
    Shane

The supported frequencies of the hardware …
In software/firmware, it is possible to disable LTE. Some firmware variants do this; I do not know why. The firmware variant is identified through the Nokia Product Code – you have a variant for the network operator Movistar, Mexico. Both your hardware (RM-820) and that network (Movistar) support LTE band 4. Therefore, I am surprised LTE still is not enabled in your firmware variant.
Which version of the firmware do you have? Are you still with Movistar, Mexico?

  • Lumia 920 not working on 3G, **bleep** mobile ... ...

I have purchased Nokia Lumia 920 month ago. First loaded with Lyca SIM (providing service on telstra network), phone call and messages were working fine but mobile data never worked on the phone. I thought it might the issue with Lyca network. First of all, it was not showing the 3G in the status bar, instead it was showing up pointing triangle. According to Nokia manual it is a sign for roaming data. Though it was a roaming it should work because in setting I set data on roam. I hope it should work but it was always complaining about the data network not available. When I was using that sim with my iPhone 4; though it was slow, it was still working. So I never bothered to make it working with Lumia 920.
Recently I moved to Kogan Mobile SIM (Providng better service than Lyca on telstra network), which really have good data connectivity. Now it is showing 3G symbol in Lumia 920 status bar but whenever you try to open any application, or even a browser it says no connection. And the same sim card I place in iPhone 4, it is working with good speed and better connectivity.
Can someone tell me is that the phone settings issue, that I havent set something properly or this phone it self is **bleep**?
I appericiate some responsible & helping response from the Nokia staff or customer service.

As this is a peer forum and not a 'Direct to Nokia' one you can go here to get a response from Nokia if you must.
First of all the Triangle indeed means you are roaming. Roaming means nothing else but that your are not using the network belonging to your operator but that you are in fact using another carrier's network as a 'guest'. In your case the network belongs to Telstra and lyca is the operator. Depending on how the operator sets up te network they will either appear to roam or appear as the 'main' carrier. For you this makes no difference but if so you would have to have the option to allow use of data while roaming set in Settings>mobile network>Data roaming options
In addition you will need to set up the correct access point in Settings > access point which should be the network for your operator, not  for the host network. If you see the settings tap them to activate or add the Internet (and MMS) settings manually if not. The correct settings should be available through your operator.
If you do not yet see the access point settings option in Settings go here to download them.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask and remember.. deep breaths..

  • No Service with Lumia 920

    Hi,
I've bought a separate unlocked Lumia 920, and using it with T-Mobile NL. I've only been roaming in other countries (Bosnia at the moment). It used to work fine, but since the last 3 days I get 'no service', after seeing the local provider shortly connected (Everywhere in the country so far), I get a 'No Service' icon.
The connectivity icon consists of several dimmed bars with a 'stop' sign in the middle.
I can manually search for network providers, but can't seem to connect to any of them.
The software is updated to the latest version available AFAIK.
I've tried soft resets, all possible different roaming settings (on/off/2g/3g/4g)
Any idea what might be going on?

I see that the phone will only connect the the G3 network. What about G4? When will that be offered? There is no point in upgrading to a Lumia 920 without being able to connect to G4
*NOTE: This post was moved to a separate thread and the title of this and subsequent responses changed to reflect the move.

Looking the U.S. AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 specs it isn't surprising it doesn't look like an unlocked version will work on TMobile. However, there is a  global Nokia Lumia 920 on Nokia's web site that looks like it will work unlocked on TMobile.
I'm thinking about getting an unlocked phone so I can take advantage of a cheap TMobile month by month plan ($30 with 100 minutes/unlimited text/unlimited data). Sure, I could get the Nokia Lumia 810 they just announced for TMobile but I'd prefer the better phone. In fact, I might end up sticking with Android because I'm not really interested in a mid-range phone.
Am I right the global version is fully compatible with TMobile (specs below) and will an unlocked version be sold in the U.S.?

  • Lumia 920 ongoing issues, very disappointed

Hi there, I am an owner of a Lumia 920 on Vodafone UK, i recieved this handset in Feb this year when it was available as an upgrade on my network.
I am very upset and disppointed with my handset...
    I am experiencing the following issues;
Random reboots when phone is idle in my pocket or making/recieving calls
When making calls I get 'call dropped' and I get messages of friends saying they cant ring me so i have to turn the phone off and on again and then all good again.
I complained to Vodafone and they said send the phone off for repair, which I reluctantly did and they somehow deduced the screen was faulty and said that was replaced and had an 'internal service' and a full firmware reflash/update..
I revieved the phone back within 3 days which I was pretty chuffed about.
Since ive had it back, which is now just going on 7 days it has rebooted again once on its own and now I have a flickering screen... I have googled this and turned off the auto brightness and I still have a flickering screen.
As I am in a 24 month contract and its been over 14 days since I had the upgrade I am pretty much stuck with this phone now.. Am I within my right to ask Vodafone to replace the phone completely or do I have to put up with sending it for repair every week?? I am even considering making such a fuss they will let me even choose another phone completely as im sick of this Lumia!

I did go in to the local vodafone store where I sent the phone back and asked about a replacement sim card and all  I got was 'nah the sim card cant cause it to reboot, all it contains is the network info etc' or something along those lines... I did read somewhere that a sim card can cause issues and since you have mentioned this as well now I think they may have fobbed me off.. ill go in again today and say Nokia them selfes have asked me to try a new sim and see what they say...

  • Nokia Lumia 920 India Launch ! - Some Observations...

    Hi,
Being a Nokia fan for years .. I decided to write this .. I hope people at the right level from Nokia see this.
We all know Nokia Lumia 920 has probably hit all the right spots with Users abroad and the best thing is they are loving it a lot. I probably would like to be one of them soon.
    However I have certain concerns,
When Nokia launced Lumia in India people had high hopes including myself however one thing that I have always found going wrong is the 'PRICING' .. yes such insanely high pricing at launch .. why ? Look at the pricing of Lumia 800 at launch (around 33k) . Look at the pricing of Lumia 900 still (31k) ? .. Lumia 800 now sells around at the price of 19k !! - almost a 40% drop in price.
The basic thinking in the minds of people including me is 'Don't buy a Nokia phone immediately on launch !!'. Why can't this be changed ? - Yes everybody wants to earn profits but in a situation wherein you are more in search for Mindshare .. This does not make sense. Obviously I am no one to teach anybody anything but this is what I feel & what I have felt for years.
If I buy a Nokia Lumia 920 at launch only to find that after 3 months the pricing has come down by 3-5k .. I will not be a Happy Consumer.
Nokia - Launch Lumia 920 at a very competitive price (so that the likes of SGS3 & HTC 8x will feel ashamed) .. Arrive at a price & keep it steady for real long so that the initial adopters are happy & others come to know that Nokia's pricing is real good and will stay that way for long.
Nokia's Lumia are pretty good phones .. they never lag when compared to Android etc however they have not been well received by people here in India. The most common answer that I get is 'Bluetooth not there - can't transfer files' , 'Can't use memory card ' & 'Apps not available'.
Nokia - you have to change this mindset of people because with Windows Phone 8 these things are no longer hindrances ! .. especially Bluetooth & Micro-sd support.
I am expecting your Ads to have this .. be it on Radio or TV or Internet.
Can we have right people on the Job ? - Recently I went to Hypercity Mall (in Mumbai) (Nokia booth). I took in my hand a Lumia 510. I asked how much RAM ? .. to my surprise he answered 512 Mb .. and I was like What ? I asked him to recheck - still the same answer. He said we have confirmed. The phone actually comes with 256 Mb of RAM.
Now imagine what happens to a consumer who brought this phone from him ?
Nokia - Please get the right people at task for Nokia Lumia 920 & 820 because there you have got some real innovations like PureView, OIS, Wireless Charging etc. Ensure that users get the right demo of all the innovations. First impression will be the Last impression.
At Malls (without Nokia booths), the 2 phones Lumia 800 & Lumia 710 lonely guard the booths .. with rarely anybody there to explain about them. Just on the side of it I find Samsung's booth with all the latest flagships standing there & probably someone to explain about it - however Android needs no explanation these days will all aware about it (& even if not aware they know a phone with it is Cool!).
Nokia - Please set your own booths for Lumia (both WP8 & WP7) & assign one of your Guys per Booth. I really don't know the dynamics of setting up booth at a mall & the financial impact of it. All you need to do is differentiate your Lumia's from others.
Alternatively you can have a Lumia Van (or Lumia Vans) running around the City with all the possible Lumia's on it for doing Demo's. All Lumia's - since a person can come up to check a Lumia 510 too & not having a specific Lumia means Dissatisfaction for the user.
Nokia Lumia 920,820 & 620 are gem of a phones .. Hope everything is done right with them in a price sensitive market like India & I hope that Nokia you are listening to a User's opinion here.
Here's someone who wishes real good things for Nokia. Good luck with the launch of Nokia Lumia 920, 820 & 620. Desperately waiting !!

    Hi slon!
    Welcome to Nokia Forum!
Let me answer your question in the same manner you have presented it.
    1. How can I configure networking option for individual application (it was standard option before, see N8)
    - Can you tell me which particular application/s you are referring to? The phone prioritizes WLAN connection over 3G to ensure quality customer experience.
Example: Nokia Maps - when downloading map data, it would require you to use WLAN as phone would require high amount of data.
    2. Where can I find the option like: Automatic, Always ask, WLAN only when using access to data connection
    - These options are not available on the device. However, you can find some settings that are similar to what you are looking for:
Settings>Wifi>Tap on Advanced> you will have the following options:
Notify me when new networks are found
    Automatically connect to Wi-Fi hotspots
Send information about Wi-Fi connections to help discover nearby Wi-Fi
Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out
