Local refresh of upgraded Powerpivot report are really slow

Hi everybody,
My customer has just upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 2013 Pro.
They also upgraded their powerpivot reports.
When they refresh these reports from their local computer the data refresh are far slower than in 2010.
When they create brand new reports from Office 2013 Pro, the refresh is faster.
Their 2010 reports are really complex and we want to avoid to rewrite them.
Have you heard about such problems?
How can we fix this?
Thanks for your help.
Pete

Hi Pete,
According to your description, you are experiencing the performance issue when refresh data in PowerPivot report after upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 2013 Pro, right?
We cannot reproduce this issue, and it's hard to say root reason that caused the performance issue. There are many facts that impact data refresh. Here are some articles about the troubleshooting tips and techniques for working through data refresh
issues with PowerPivot.

• Reports are runinng slower than before...

I notice that my reports are running slower than before and realized that nothing interms of data volume or dimension members has changed.i checked the logfile and found that no one ran calculation.
my team suggested to check the below things in the following
1)run a maxl comment to see if the database is fragmented.
2)check when was the last time the application was stopped
3)checking the data cache setting
4)check the commit - level setting
I think "Data cache setting" is not required to check as the data volume is not changed. Can any one sugegsts the best possible 2 ways from the above STEPS

I think you have arrived at the correct conclusions, by jumping or otherwise....
Looks like its maybe his 3rd or 4th recent thread along these lines rather than 2nd:

• Apps are really slow opening on my brand new iMac any ideas ?

Apps are really slow on my new iMac just got it out of the box and set it up and it seems to take an age to open them compared to my iPad, which is 1st generation. Any ideas ?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

• Simple GLSL Shaders are really slow on MacBook Pro 13"

I have just get a new MacBook Pro 13 (i7 with Intel HD3000). I know that intel graphics card are not a beast but the performance I getting with simple glsl fragment shaders are really bad.
I have some video post processing shader in glsl in an application I have developed for mac. On my old MacBook Pro 15" (with nvidia 8600M) the performance was not perfect but I got 32-60 fps depending on the shaders.. with the new one I have 1-2 fps when shaders are on i.e. with a gaussian filter the perfomance drops to 8fps, with a little bit complex fragment shader performance drops to 1-2 fps.
My question is if is this a known problem due a driver implementation? or if is it the expected performance of the intel HD 3000 graphics card?
I really like MacOSX for work and develop but if this doesn't have a solution, I will have to return my mac and see other alternatives, It is impossible to develop any simple OpenGL application with this card .
Thank you,
Rafa.

I have just tested the same application on the mac with windows 7. The performance is a little bit better with shaders but bad in general.
Performance on MacOSX:
Video only: 60 fps
Video+Shader: 2 fps
Performance on Windows:
Video only: 16 fps
Video+Shader: 14 fps
So my guess is that on macosx there is a driver issue with the card.
Thoughts?
Thank you,
Rafa.

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup. Yo shld be able to make a backup if you previously syncing to this computer.
iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

• My start ups are really slow

I have a Mac Mini (late 2012 model). I upgraded the RAM to 16GB and added an Intel SSD (DIY Hybrid drive) as soon as a I got it last year. Back then the boot speed was super fast (~10 secs or less).
Over the last few months the boot speed has gone down quite a bit. It is almost close to a minute. I did a complete re-install of OSX and even without any additional apps there isn't much difference.
The HDD capacity is 673 GB and it is close to 50% full (mostly all personal photos and home videos). The boot speed did not improve even when there wasn't anything other than OSX.
Any ideas, suggestions on what to look for?
BTW it is running Mavericks.
Thanks
Mayank

None of those help by problem:
1. I already have an SSD so adding the SSD does not help
2. My problem isn't slowness after logging in. The problem is long time from boot to the login screen.
I looked at my console and here is what I see there. There appear to be a few places (see bold) where there is a gap in time but I do not know what those operations are or why they would be taking long:

• Apps are really slow to open on bound machines

Hi Guys,
i have a problem that's quite a head-scratcher. I'm assisting a departmental tech at the school I work for with a funny OD problem. There are three problems, and I am not sure if they are related:
1) Initially the problem was that new users that were created were unable to log in, yet users that were already in OD were able to log in fine. We found a workaround by switching the affected accounts' password types from OD to crypt, then back from crypt to OD.
2) Users can not access file shares in AFP if the auth type is set to kerberos, yet standard works fine. I tried rebuilding the kerberos DB, but the issue still persists.
3) Now the problem is that any machines that were bound to OD take a really long time logging in and opening apps. the login window will hang at the first letter of input before continuing with the rest after 30 seconds or so. After the user logs in, apps take 20 bounces or so before they open (e.g. System Prefs or Safari). the accounts are portable homes. the apps are local to the machine.
All the machines are 2008 imacs running 10.5.7 and the server is 10.5.7 on a Xserve Xeon.
Does anyone know where I can get started to resolve these issues? Thanks!

How many users do you have populated in OD?

• I upgraded to Maverick system really slowed down, All file access 10-15% slower. Solution?

After I upgraded from Mountian Lion to Maverick (OS10.9) accessing files and directories on external drives slowed down by at least 10 - 15 %. I get the color wheel and a long wait almost 25% of the time. Is there a solution other than downgrading to 10>8?

Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

• Downloads are really slow

When I want to download some Podcasts (I have iTune 7.0.2 and I cannot switch to an older Version because of the new iPod Nano) with iTune, than these download are very slowly. But when I download the Podcasts dircetly from the server with an ordinary browser, than it is fast. (esa.int or Fraunhofer or 3sat,...)
With iTunes, it takes forever,
So I think it must be a problem with iTunes. So is there any solution to solve this really nasty problem.
PS:
Sync with iPod is very fast
Internet Connection is also very fast
Firewall ist not blocking iTunes
So iTunes itself od iStore ist the problem.

Please test.
High speed internet is relative.
Compare Cox high speed:

With AT&T:
http://www.att.com/shop/internet/internet-service.html#fbid=PhAncYdarWq
Cox has had a lot of complaints when customers upgrade internet speed, but see no change in service because Cox didn't really make any change to accounts, (like we wouldn't notice)

• Webi reports are running slow

• Upgrade CS3 - CS5 iMac really slow

Hi,
I've upgraded my Adobe CS3 to CS5.
Now it seems my entire iMac to be slower. Especially when using Photoshop and Bridge (Camara RAW).
Do you recognize this? I have an iMac 24 inch Mac OS X 10.6.4 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
I also have a MacBook 5.2 and there is cs5 on. There's only 2 G memory, so that's not very much.
In CS3 there was no problem and I have a tendency to work 'just' on my MacBook, but that's not what I want.
This may not actually be right? Maybe I need to change some settings? I've googled everything, but I can not find the right answer.
Hopefully you can say anything.
Thanks,
Monique

all iMacs except for the new 27" are mobile processors (laptop)
the base 27 is also a mobile as is the 3.33GHz option.
only the i5/i7 options are real desktop processors.
so what you have is a laptop with a fancy screen. (great for photoshop but thats it)
add to the fact the included video card is not a supported MPE card..
presently a full MacPro is not much better. no supported MPE video card and multithreading on OSX is no joy either.

• Upgraded iTunes downloading now really slow. Why?

I recently upgraded iTunes and now when downloading it runs like a dog. Hours to download one track!
We are on a high speed sat internet connection.

What security software are you running?
That upgrade was actually an uninstall of the previous iTunes & QuickTime, and a fresh install of the newer iTunes+QT.
So your security software (like Norton) might be scanning its folders and making it slow, becasue it has new rules for what it thinks is the "new" progam.

• Yosemite - Updates are REALLY SLOW

My MacBook Pro with Retina - Late 2013 with Yosemite needs 2 updates:
- the new security update released yesterday (1,4 MB)
- RAW compatibility update 6.0.2 (7,3 MB)
I started the updates 2h ago but they are still downloading...
My internet connection isn´t even slow.
I tried to restart the download but it remains at 80 KB...
The other one at 1,7 MB.
What can i do?

Same issue. I'm still downloading some updates from Apple Store but throughput seems to be stuck around 10kb/s...

• My iTunes downloads are really slow on both Windows and iPhone 5

I've been experiencing slow download speed on both Windows and my iPhone 5.
I've done a few things like reset my phone network settings, enabled iTunes through my Windows firewall, changed the DNS but none has actually worked out! I really need your help because I'm starting to get really ****** off with how Apple renders its services. On a side note, I've unlimited quota so the speed won't be throttled down. Thank you.

Unlimited quota does not mean unlimited speed.
What is the actual download speed from your ISP? Test it using a site like http://www.speedtest.net
