Would love some help;

You will need to reinstall OS X. You might give this a try:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Error message: local root folder does not exist

    Greetings,
I'm working on a MacPro 2x2.66Ghz, running DW from CS2 and
through a strange combination of keyboard keystrokes while cleaning
my keyboard yesterday I inadvertantly renamed my hard drive "-OX"
from it's default. I can't seem to remember what the default name
of my hard drive was, but i think it was simply "Macintosh". I've
renamed it that, but on launching DW for the first time today I got
an error message saying that "The local root folder, web_content,
does not exist" and it gave me the option to manage sites and set
my local root folder again. Is there a way to re-establish my local
root folder for every site that I currently manage in one swipe, or
do I have to go in and manually do this for each and every Site
    within my Files panel?
    Thanks for your ideas,
    Pedro

Actually, it solved one issue but seems to have created
another! So, at least now my Sites are all working okay with
respect to a local root folder. But let's say I open an .html file
by double-clicking it in the Files panel. With that file active if
I choose Preview in Browser I get a "File Not Found" error message
from Firefox.... even though it looks like the path to that file is
    correct.
One thing I notice about the path in the address bar of
Firefox is that there are 3 forward-slashes after the file: bit at
    the beginning of the line.
For example, the page generating the error has this address:
    file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/peter/Sites/MySite/web_content/index_vertical.html
If you notice carefully there are 3 slashes at the beginning
of the line. If I go to "Manage Sites" I have the settings set to
"links relative to document" and my root folder and images folder
show the proper locations. What have I done?
The error message also says the following in the details
section: Firefox can't find the file at /Macintosh
    HD/Users/peter/Sites/MySite/web_content/index_vertical.html.
so there's a forward-slash before the hard drive.... is that
    okay?
    Thanks for your ideas!

  • Error:  The local root folder, ZZZZZZ, does not exist.  Please...

    Dreamweaver newest - Cloud
    Windows 7 Prof 64b SP1
Everyday now upon firing up Dreamweaver I am getting the same error. As long as I worked on this certain site last the day before, dreamweaver of course tries to load that site upon the next startup.
The error:  The local root folder, ZZZZZZ, does not exist.  Please choose a new local root folder
I have typed the path myself and browsed to it many times.  When I go into the Site manager/edit site to correct this, it already has the correct path listed there.  If I just leave what is there and hit save, it doesn't work.  Once re entering is done it allows me to work on the site again. Connecting to remote/upload files and everything works fine.  I can close DW and reopen and all will be fine, for a while.    If I close it and maybe two hours later come back to work on it, DW will report that same error again on startup.
Other editors of the site with same cloud version of DW and same site settings are not having this error. We've combed for differences.
I've deleted the site definition altogether and recreated it.  It does not stop the error.
I found some old references to this issue in the old macromedia forums dealing with Mac and spaces or odd characters being an issue in the local folder path. I'm on windows, but the complaints sounded so similar I decided to try a test suggested there.  Their suggestion was to create a new blank html file, without saving, add some text, select the text, use the link icon in the properties manager to drag a link out to any file in the files panel.  Upon doing so, DW creates a full local path that you can see in your html since you haven't saved the file yet.  The suggestors of this test said you should see if your "mac" and DW was having trouble with spaces or odd characters in the path.   Well the following path shows a PIPE character being created in the path by DW on my test page.
    file:///W|/private/09 Websites/zzzzzz/index.html
Could this be showing there is some kind of issue that I need to correct?  Or is this typical?  See the pipe character being listed after the network drive letter of W
    Our local root folder path:
    W:\private\09 Websites\zzzzzz\
    Server Settings:
         Root Directory:
    public_html/zzzzzz.com/
         Web URL:
    HypertextTransferProtocolCOLON//worldwideweb.zzzzzz.commercial/
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this how your remote setting is defined? If it is, do you have a folder called zzzzz.com on your remote server trailing public_html? Ideally public_html is your website root - index.html resides within that, unless your configuration states otherwise.
To come to your actual question of the local root folder, yes, your file manager wont show files if the connection fails. However, accessing it depends on the permissions you have on your network drive. Have you checked that?
I'm not sure why our guy has another folder underneath public_html. My guess is he has some company related hosted test folders for various things under there.  I can see a couple other folders under public_html while checking with filezilla. I suppose he just directed our domain to our web folder under public_html.
Again, two others here are using these exact same settings with no root folder errors from DW. We've checked many times and all is the same for them.
Here are some screen grabs of the settings if this makes it more clear.
This last one showing the remote connection address under the files/assets panel is the one that looks strange to me.  It shows a home folder / then a folder with our site name / then public_html / then our sitename.com .    Seems convoluted to me.  But it works for everyone else so I'm not sure if this error I'm getting has anything to do with these settings or if there is just some old DW settings file hung up in my system that I need to find and delete or what.
    Thanks for any ideas.

  • Moving a folder from one local root folder to another

I've used Dreamweaver CS4 to build my website, and I've become basically familiar with the way it works. Now I'm just starting to build a second site - and I've run into a baffling problem.
I've defined the new site in the normal way, and created the local root folder.
I've got a folder full of image files that is currently sitting in the local root folder of my old site - I'd like to put this into the local root folder of my new site.
This may seem silly, but I can't find a way to move that images folder from one local root folder to the other. I thought it would be a simple drag & drop move, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I've moved the images folder to the desktop, from where it should be easy to drag it over the new local root folder icon in Dreamweaver and drop it in - but it doesn't work.
Am I missing something obvious here...?

You should be able to access your entire computer directory structure through the Files Panel in Dreamweaver.
Click the drop down arrow next to the named site (the open site) at the top of the Files Panel and navigate up into the rest of your computer. You can then Ctrl-C (copy) the folder, re-select the name of your site (the green folders at the bottom of the directories, not in the computer structure), and Ctrl-V (paste) the folder where you want it. Contents will of course come with it.
You could (alternately) just copy and paste it working within the computer's directory structure. Paste it into the new root folder and, in Dreamweaver, refresh the view in the Files Panel. The folder should show up fine.
Notice that I have not been drag and dropping, though that should work with the last-mentioned technique.

  • Saving images in local root folder before inserting into website.

I have a completed website and the client has sent me some images and asked me to insert them into the website, but before I do that I know that they have to be saved in the local root folder - what is the easiest way to do this?

I have a completed website and the client has sent me some images and asked me to insert them into the website, but before I do that I know that they have to be saved in the local root folder - what is the easiest way to do this?
If you insert an image on a page in a local site, and if that image is not currently within your local root folder, DW will prompt you to determine if you want to copy that image into your default images folder.  In this case you do.
Alternatively, you could just copy the images into any folder within your local root using Explorer/Finder.  When you next connect to that site in DW, it will find the images there and you can use them right away.

  • Local Root Folder

A "frontpage web" folder in hdd has special sign in windows
exporer(and some default files) , well Local Root Folder in
dreamweaver has the same characteristics ? How I understand in
windows exporer that a folder is a Local Root Folder ?

No. Only if you make it have that icon using Windows - DW
    doesn't
    automatically do this for you.

You organize your sites so that they are in some obvious
    containing folder
location on your hard drive - like "websites" or something.

  • Local Root Folder - One Level To High ???

    Hi,
I'm not sure how to explain this, but I will try.
When I choose a new local root folder when managing a new site, and lets say I made the folders in advance - desktop>website>images, and when I then choose my local root folder, I'm selecting the folder website press open and then save/select, but then it only saves as desktop while it should be desktop>website, it's the same when I choose the default images folder, I select the images folder press open and save/select, and same thing, it will choose desktop>website while it should be desktop>website>images.
So to choose the right folder I have to either go one folder extra deep (if any) or write the folder name myself. I have looked around the settings but nothing seems to have anything to do with this, and my searches on Google didn't bring any results, so I hope one of you would be able to help me.
    Thanks
    Kim Celinder
PS. I use Dreamweaver CS3, and Vista Home Premium x64

I am also very frustrated!  I am running CS4 on Vista and have the same problem.
I am in the process of emailing tech support; so far I have been told to run repair on my system or follow Adobe's tutorial for setting up a root folder.  Well... I have already completely re-installed the software (which according to the tech where I work should be better than a repair?)... but I will try that... and I DO know how to set up a root folder so that is not the problem.
I have one other major issue re my CS4... my help files are not there!  I am not using upgrade software (which is what I thought could be the problem-as an upgrade may not include some things from the previous edition you have installed on your computer)... Adobe gave me the same suggestion to run repair...
I will respond again if the repair does help.

  • Problem selecting local root folder in Vista

A friend has run into a Dreamweaver problem I can't find any info about. While defining a site, when he tries to set his local root folder by browsing into and selecting it, the local root folder is set one directory higher than the one he's chosen.
I've searched for info on the issue and can't come up with anything However when asking around I have had a couple additional people report the same issue.
I'm not much of a Windows guy so has anyone else seen this issue/have any suggestions for fixing it?

I have the EXACT same problem. I thought I was crazy - at least I know I'm not alone.
As mentioned, I try to select the folder for my site and it selects the one folder above the previous. Display below shows that issue in DW CS3 part of CS3 Master Collection on Vista Enterprise x86: (-- the arrow is not that good because I'm using school laptop TouchPad)
Display below shows that issue in DW CS4 (by itself) I just installed on my Windows 7 RTM x64Bit:
I probably never came accross the issue before since I use to type out the locations before. Ever since I became "clicky clicky," it's been bugging me.
Do you have any ideas as to what the issue is?

  • Disable local root su - user

we're running DS5.2P4 with all Sol10 clients, and would like to disable the local root account from being able to su - account, is that possible?

If you have your root account into LDAP you have a
potential security breach in your environment. Image
that some one discover the root password and having
root into LDAP this person can potentialy have access
to all your servers.Sorry - didn't mean to imply root was an ldap user, is definitely not. Our issue is just with local root user's su - to ldap accounts.
The root account can do anything in a UNIX box,
therefore, root is more privileged than any
enterprise account.Yes, definitely understand the power of root on a system, this is more of an issue about keeping enterprise user information from being accessed by a local root user.
For my knowledge, there are no ways to block root
using su to be a low-level user account. You can do
this removing su from your system and start using
sudo. That's a possibility, thanks, but not quite the level of access we're looking for. Thanks for the help - we'll keep tinkering and post if anything helpful comes up.

  • New From Template Changes Relative Links to Local Root?

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand my plight with Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac. I apologize for the lengthy question, but in the effort to provide detail I shall go. First the background:
I'm updating, editing, and appending an existing site that was previously created with Dreamweaver.
I'm new to Dreamweaver but have a pretty good understanding of things
I created a new site on the local drive on my MacBook Pro and then downloaded the entire site via FTP (live site: domain.com)
I then replicated the site and exact file structure using FTP to a staging server (staging.domain.com)
There are three existing .dwt templates. I've successfully updated the template file and auto updated all other pages that were based on this template.
But my problem comes from creating new pages FROM the template. It appears that while the .dwt template file shows relative links (../xxxx) in the code, when create a new file from the template the url of these links is replaced by the path to the file on my local drive... I want non of this (.../xxxx) is fine.
What is happening is that a javascript drop down menu is disappearing when I create new from template. I am assuming it's because of the path changes.
This is the ORIGINAL (good) code from the .dwt:
    <!-- Top Navigation -->
    <tr>
         <td height="31">
              <table width="718" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
                   <tr>
                        <td width="24"><img src="../images/L-Header-Corner.gif" width="30" height="50" border="0"></td>
                        <td width="342" style="background-image: url(../images/Header-BG.gif);"><img src="../images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="337" height="1" border="0"> </td>
But when I create a NEW page from the above template the code is changed to the local path:
    <!-- Top Navigation -->
    <tr>
         <td height="31">
              <table width="718" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
                   <tr>
                        <td width="24"><img src="file:///Grasshopper/Users/allan/Documents/clients/site/site staging master/images/L-Header-Corner.gif" width="30" height="50" border="0"></td>
                        <td width="342" style="background-image: url(file:///Grasshopper/Users/allan/Documents/clients/site/site staging master/images/Header-BG.gif);"><img src="file:///Grasshopper/Users/allan/Documents/clients/site/site staging master/images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="337" height="1" border="0"> </td>
To be sure all links in the template file are changed too.
This is the .dwt file itself
This is a random page created from the above template.
And this page was created by simply altering the .dwt template file linked above and then SAVING AS. You can see the relative links remained and the navigation bar looks and operates as normal.
To provide easier visual reference I offer the following:
This is the .dwt file when opened in dreamweaver:
Note the black area where the javascript drop down menu is in the top navigation when the page is correct:
But when I create a NEW page from template this is what I get in the top navigation bar:
And then this is what it looks like when posted:
Ultimately what I'm trying to do is:
    1) work on site files on my local drive
    2) sync the local drive with staging.domain.com so my client can proof and approve
    3) sync to the actual live site at domain.com
I assume I could simply do this by changing the ftp info and given the site structure and all files are same and ideally all links are relative this should be accomplished easily.
Though perhaps my problem stems from the fact my local site is buried several layers deep on my local drive Local Drive/Users/Me/Clients/Client.... etc... but I haven't checked this yet.

    Great... Thanks for your patience....
Here are links to all questioned files on the staging server:
This is the .dwt file itself
This is a random page created from the above template that shows the image/navigation incorrect.
And this page was created by simply altering the .dwt template file linked above and then SAVING AS. You can see the relative links remained and the navigation bar looks and operates as normal. (obviously the wrong thing to do.
And this page is one that was created prior to my working on the site and was based on the subpage template and displays correctly.
Now bear with me here as I notice this behavour too.
In the code snipped taken directly from the DW .dwt template (linked above)
    <td width="24"><img src="../images/L-Header-Corner.gif" width="30" height="50" border="0"></td>
                        <td width="342" style="background-image: url(../images/Header-BG.gif);"><img src="../images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="337" height="1" border="0"> </td>
you'll notice there are two images L-Header-Corner.gif and one that is Header.BG.gif.
The difference here is that the BG gif has a style attributed to it "Background-Image) which is followed by some strange code that says (url)../
Opening that file Background Image and it's a tiny slice of what I think is part of the entire missing gray bar:
In a page that displays correctly the code looks like this:
    <td width="24"><img src="../images/L-Header-Corner.gif" width="30" height="50" border="0"></td>
                        <td width="342" style="background-image: url(../images/Header-BG.gif);"><img src="../images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="337" height="1" border="0"> </td>
And in a page that is displaying incorrectly the code appears like this:
    <td width="24"><img src="../images/L-Header-Corner.gif" width="30" height="50" border="0"></td>
                        <td width="342" style="background-image: url(file:///Grasshopper/Users/allan/Documents/clients/koolfog/koolfog website staging/images/Header-BG.gif);"><img src="../images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="337" height="1" border="0"> </td>
So you can see that the link in this case (with the URL and style) has actually been converted to a site (my hard drive) relative link when saving.
So the pressing question stands: Why doesn't dreamweaver convert that URL link when saving a page created from a template back to the same directory?
Also, it appears that in that .DWT all the links have the leading periods and therefore are document relative... since I didn't set this up, how do you think this happened?

  • Lost local root folder

My website was stored on a usb key which I have lost.
So I created new folders in my documents and am trying to connect to the website to import the folders, but I can't.  An ftp error pops up and it cannot make connection to the host.
I am using the same settings as before.
    Any help appreciated.

Create a new site definition.  Go to Site > New Site.
Tell DW where on your hard drive you want to store your site files.  See screenshots.
Servers:  Enter your FTP log-in credentials.  Root Directory is whatever your hosting provider told you to use.  If unsure, check with your host.
Click the Test button.  If you cannot connect, click on More Options.
When your Test connection is verified, Save your settings and Export to an .ste file.  Store your .ste file in a safe place in case you ever need to restore or transfer your site definition settings to a different computer.

  • Local root folder does not exist...

This has got something to do with the fact that I am working on a Mac as it never happened to me in a PC environment.
Nothing's changed with my files and my sites were all perfectly defined just the other day.
Why has it resorted to this message? Why should I have to redefine multiple websites again?
When I researched this online, someone mentioned that the drive name of Mac HD somehow auto-changed to Macintosh HD, and this person reckoned this was what caused the issue.
So, why has this happened and what can I do to resolve without having to redefine? I'd like to get to the bottom of this!
    Thank you!

    Hi,
I have Leopard and have not upgraded yet. Nothing has changed so I am puzzled by this. I tried the re-naming of the hard drive, but this gives no fix. I even tried removing the space between Mac and HD, but still no luck.
It's strange to me because my path to all my sites goes something like this:
Places --> myname --> My Art & Design Files --> websites --> nameofsite
I've had this set-up since March and have made revisions to multiple websites that are in the websites folder, so I cannot understand what has changed or gone wrong. So I'm not even sure as to how or why the HD comes into play when it comes to the path.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe: fix problem selecting local root folder in Vista & Windows 7!

Adobe knows about this problem and is refusing to address it. It may seem small but it creates immense frustration and double-handling issues in productive environments.
Is Adobe just showing a totally arrogant stance toward its loyal users by ignoring their pain, or are they deliberately holding them to ransom to force more upgrades to CS5?
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/478327
Please petition Adobe on this issue.
    Adobe: fix this problem!!!

I can't believe Microsoft-bashing is still so much a part of this business. Yes it's a bug and any person of even modest intelligence should be able to understand that if the issue was fixed in CS5 that it is simply Adobe's choice not to have issued a public update for CS4.
A "Community Professional" or whatever they are called, should be well enough versed in the product to know fully well that Dreamweaver CS5 is most certainly nit a "ground up" upgrade by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I have been around Dreamweaver since version 1.0 and the phenomenon of not fixing bugs and updating existing versions is a recent phenomenon. I might also add that this bug affects some of our products and one of Adobe's Dreamweaver engineers was kind enough to make a fix available for our customers. It fixes exactly what we asked to be asked, which is the folder select dialog that we use for our image-handling extensions. It does not affect the folder select dialog for the Site Manager.
Adobe is within its rights to fix the bugs that fit within their development scope and budget. To expect more is nice - but perhaps an actual Adobe employee can jump into this thread as they have in recent others and offer their side of the story.
