Local, Testing server, Remote server uploading

I have my web files in a local directory, say c:
webfiles\myweb. I also have a local testing server at
c:\Apache\htdocs\myweb, and finally a production site at
www.myweb.com. The problem is that when I edit a file in my local
directory it updated the testing server and not the production
remote - which is what I expect. My problem is that I don't know
how to update the production server as there does not seem to be
any menu choice for this. I am sure I am doing something stupid,
but I can't figure out whats wrong. Basically I don't quite get how
the relationship between the 3 file locations interact with each
other. Any help would be sincerely appreciated as its driving me
crazy.

Expand the Files panel. On the toolbar, there are three icons
in a row -
Remote | Testing | Site Map. Select the Remote icon, and you
will now be
connecting with the Remote site for PUT/GET. The testing
server will now
only be used for Previews or Live Data displays.

  • How to set synchronise to test or remote server

I can't see which remote server will be synchronised in CS3.
I have set up a site with a test and remote server.
Local files are held locally, the test server is inhouse on an apache server, and the remote server is the actual webspace account.
I can synchronise the local files to either the test or remote server, but its not clear which remote is currently set for the synchronisation. The way I;ve found so far is to select the remote or test view on the dropdown, and whichever was the last selected will synchronise with the local files. This will eventually lead to a wrong update!
Is there a way to set or see which remote will be used to synchronise?
    Thanks

It is true that this is VERY badly documented, if at all.
To summarize what many want to do (and for good reason):
    1) Developers PC. Running Dreamweaver and has the local site defined on it. No database, no server.
    2) Testing PC/Server. Running web and database servers on the local network. Typically Apache, MySQL and PHP
    3) Production Server. Out on the net somewhere.
After this is all set up, here are the problems that one encounters:
    - When editing "normal" HTML it is fine. You edit, click test, and it saves and copies it to the test server and displays it. When done, do a "put" or "sync" and it goes to your remote site.
    - If you are editing some PHP or CSS that is not directly in the HTML page, you are screwed. Hit test, and it saves and displays your HTML page, but your new PHP or CSS code is STILL ON YOUR LOCAL MACHINE ONLY!
    - If you are constantly fine tuning PHP or CSS code, you might as well just keep a file manager window open and manually copy things around. DW just seems unable to do it.
Of course if you want to put everything on your development PC (LAMP, XAMPP whatever), you don't hit these problems. But who wants all that crap running on your day to day machine? The testing server is a much more professional setup. And it gives you yet another free backup of your stuff. Trash an important HTML file? Just pull it back from testing server. No need to dig through backups.
You can really never be sure what DW is going to synchronize. I only use it to PUT things to the remote production server, which seems to normally work fine. How to best keep the testing server in sync with your PC is not clear at all.
I've seen a few suggestions, but Adobe really needs to document how to run DW in a professional fashion, not like a toy tool!

  • Flash movie won't play on testing or remote server in web page

I have a Flash slideshow that will only play in a browser if I click File > Open and open the .swf file locally and directly (not in a web page). It has never played in a webpage, remotely on the web server or locally on the Wamp server. It plays correctly in Flash when I test it.
I have tried uploading the HTML page that Flash generates (without any changes), and it won't even play in that file. I have also tried using Dreamweaver's "Insert Flash" feature, and that was no good either.

    No, unfortunately, that didn't work.

  • Get Local Files on Remote server

    Hello,
We have a project where each computer in our office will have
different files in a folder on their local computer named
C:\Scanned. We would like to keep up with what is in each directory
and put it in the database on the remote server. We have it all
working on a single local machine but on the server we cannot
access a folder on the connecting pc. We also don't want to install
coldfusion on every one of the machines just to access the local
    directory for each of them.
Is there a way to use cfdirectory to view a local directory
on the persons pc but not on the server?
    <cfdirectory directory="C:\Scanned\" action="list"
    name="myImages" sort="name ASC" recurse="yes">
If there is no way to do it cfdirectory please let me know
    how it can be done.
    Thanks,

Thank goodness. Just imagine what could happen if any website
    you
visited could just start snooping around the file system of
    your local,
    client PC. Scary stuff that.

*IF* all the client PC's are on a well defined local|wide
    area network.
And you want to create a domain user that can read all the
    file
systems on all these computers. Then ColdFusion can be
    configured to
run under that user. It would then have access to the desire
    directories.
You would use UNC paths in the <cfdirectory...> tag,
    which means you
will have to know the machine names of all these PCs and it
    would look
    like:
    <cfdirectory
    directory="\\{machineName}\c$\Scanned\"...>
But this is really not the job for a Web Application Server.

  • Progressive Flash Not playing properly from remote server

    I have Flash CS3.
    PROBLEM: I've encoded a video using Flash's CS3 "Progressive
Download" option and then uploaded the resulting video (along with
it's associated files created by Flash ie: .fla, .swf, script
folder with action script, etc.) to my server (webpage and video
    was created through Dreamweaver CS3).
RESULT: A flash video that plays on the web, but has pink
colored digital boxes that breakup the picture... poor quality.
Please follow this link for an example:
    http://rivhawk.tripod.com/index.html
I've watched multiple step-by-step tutorials by Adobe for
creating and uploading Flash video, both with Flash CS3 and even
Dreamweaver CS3. I've tested by creating the flash content in Flash
CS3 and directly through Dreamweaver. The same digital noise, pink
    blocks occured.
NOTE: Before uploading the flash content and associated
files, I tested the flash video in my browser through Dreamweaver
(from my local directory, not remote server)...and it
plays/operates perfectly. It's only once it's uploaded that the
    problem occurs.
I've encoded the video with Flash 8 and Flash 9 at low,
medium and high qualities...same results (even by different
computers accessing the content on the internet). It happens in
    Firefox and Internet Explorer.
After 3 days of tests and research (and viewing samples of
other beautiful progressive download videos on the internet) I'm
wondering if I am missing something very simple, if there is a bug,
is this a known issue etc.
Please help, and please understand that I've been through all
the tutorials on creating/using Flash Video...and specifically
using the Progressive Download option for use on remote servers
that don't have the Flash Media Server.
    Please assist.

You can play video from any server by using a full URL ie
    http://www.anotherdomain.com/flashvideo.flv
    <param name="movie" value="videos/rep.swf" />
Looks like you're building an FLV player in Flash to play
    your video rather
than embedding it using DW. If so you need to open the source
    FLA you used
to generate 'rep.swf' and insert a full URL to your flv file,
    then publish
    the swf and upload again.
    > I've tried changing the value and embed source tags to
    be complete urls

    requesting?
As above, or you can just embed the video on a web page in
    DW, using a full
URL to your flv. If your flvs are on a server and you are
    connected to the
internet, you should be able to play the flv using preview in
    browser before
    uploading the page.

  • A remote server runs code terribley slow

    Hello,
I'm in an odd development situation. I write code on my local
dev server, which gets handed off to someone else's dev server that
tests it before putting it up live. I have NO direct access to the
remote servers and upload my files by emailing them over
individually with instructions on where to place them. (I warned
    you it was odd).
I've written a small search page which does the following:
does a verity search, if a result is not cached then the file is
parsed then the information is cached. It sorts the results, then
displays them. It caches by serializing a struct of structs using
    wddx.
On my local server this works almost instantaneously,
literally half a second for the largest "all" search, but on the
remote server it TIMES OUT! Doing searches (that run near instantly
locally) for less items takes upwards of 2 full minutes.
The error that coldfusion throws is that cffile write is
timing out. (It rewrites the cache if it finds new files in the
    results).
The code is identical on both my local, and the remote
    server.
I'm a little clueless as to why this is happening, and my
background has never been in coldfusion before. If anyone could
shed any light on why this is happening, or where to look to figure
out why it's happening, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for any help you can give.

Kronin, you bring up a good point, and that has been the main
focus I've had so far. In my local environment I am searching
through roughly 1100 files. The Cache file i'm making comes out to
about 800KB. In the remote environment I'm only searching through
roughly 2000 files, and I am assuming that the cache is growing at
    the same rate.
These aren't terribly big numbers I'm working with, even the
oldest hardware should be able to pull this off without a hitch.
Even if cffile loads it into memory first, there would surely be
1MB of memory available, and if not a swap shouldn't take long
enough to cause a time out.
Keep the ideas coming though :)

  • Mysql conn with remote server

    Good evening,
I have my db loaded, phpmyadmin loaded all on my remote server, went in the phpmyadmin and created my table, now I am in dreamwever cs4 and want to conn to my db
    on server tab I put
    ' mysqlXX.webcontrolcenter.com ' (where XX is my server #),
but i keep getting "an unidenfied error occour"thats all.
Any ideas or is there something I am missing, Thx

ok, but answer this to me, if I used phpmyadmin on my remote site which my host set up, and gave me my server addy for mysql. I went on line and to my phpmyadmin set up my table users. Now in dreamweaver my site is defined, local, testing, and remote. I now make a connection to mysql, click the plus and then mysql connection, dialog box comes up, I put conn name in, host addy (from my hoster), username and pw from when I set up phpmyadmin on the remote server, click test and works, check out the table users and all the info is now in dreamweaver, how did it get that info if not getting from remote? thx

  • Error testing locally; works fine on remote server

I was about to post that I'd hit an error when trying to
    create a
conditional region in DW 8 with ASP, CF & PHP: Training
    from the Source.
Rather than paste the non-PHP code, I uploaded the page to my
    remote server.
When I browsed to the link, the error wasn't there.
I inserted the code for the conditional region just before
    the opening
<form> tag, as the book instructed (Lesson 6).
    <?

echo "<p>*** Error! One or more fields was left blank

  • Checklist for making transition from local testing server to remote

Does anyone know of any resources which take one through the necessary steps required in putting an ADDT-built site to a remote server? I test on XAMPP (basic) and am dreading the errors I will discover when I actually put one of these sites to server...

It all depends on waht you are going to do with the data on the remote.
if tehre are no updates there, creating a simple materialized view on the remote to pull it's data from the local should suffice.
If there are updates on the remote, you will more than likely want to look into either Multi-master replication, or updatable materialized views.

  • Help with Server Structure and File Identification / Test vs Remote vs Local

I inherited a website at a new job.  I have 0 experience with building websites, let alone DW and have only been through the beginning tutorial.  I feel I am ready to make my first edits to the website.
We have two servers, test and remote.  I have files saved in C: under wamp folder.  When I am connected to test server, the folder structure doesnt change, but the folders turn red.  If the folders are not red, I am working from the local file?  If the folders turn red, I am working from the Testing Server copy?  And if so with the red folders, why is the file path still the same, C:\wamp etc...?
    Thanks -
    John

    Sounds about right.
I have my local site folder inside WAMP/www/  so when I save local files in DW, they're immediately saved in the testing server.  This also allows me to see parsed content in Live View or Live Code.
