Localization in Linux

HI,
Is the localization in Linux same as that in Windows.
My application requires user interface in Chinese. I have read lot of stuff about localization in Windows, unfortunately nowhere is it specified the localization process in Linux.
My question is, if my english version of Linux OS has chinese fonts installed in it, will these chinese fonts be available in Labview also? or do i need to have a chinese language support for linux?
Thanks
Pavitra

plz refer the below doc..

  • [SOLVED] Ndiswrapper, NetworkManager 0.7 and 64-bit Arch Linux

    Hi there!
    I am having problems configuring my wireless card. I know I have to use Ndiswrapper, and this is what I have tried to do; however, it didn't go quite well.
    This is rather odd because it worked perfectly in the 32-bit version of Arch Linux, but now it doesn't work.
    So, here comes the code.
    valandil ~ $ lspci | grep Network
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
    I really use ndiswrapper and have already installed what I think is the proper driver (it seems that the list the official ndiswrapper site had has somehow disappeared.
    sudo ndiswrapper -l

    bcmwl5 : driver installed

    Here's iwconfig:

    Alleluia!!!
    I think I will write a new rule for myself to follow :
    Thou shalt never use ndiswrapper again.
    Thanks a lot, wonder, and thanks to you too, Xyne.
    FYI, I tried to use something else than ndiswrapper before, but it didn't yield satisfying results. Anyway, thanks.

  • Canon PIXMA MP640 WiFi on Arch Linux x86_64

    I have a Canon PIXMA MP640 series multifunctional device connected wirelessly to my home router. On Windows Vista the device works flawlessly, I can print or scan without any problems. Now I decided to configure at least the printer part on my Arch Linux x86_64, which I dual-boot with Vista on the same laptop.
    I went through the Wiki entry for CUPS and SAMBA. I did install all the necessary packages, that is:
    1) cups (ver. 1.4.6), ghostscript (ver. 9.01), gsfonts (ver. 1.0.7pre44) - for CUPS
    2) cnijfilter-mp640 (ver. 3.20) and its dependencies: cnijfilter-common (ver. 3.00), lib32-libcups, lib32-popt - drivers for this particular model
    3) samba (ver. 3.5.6) and gamin (ver. 0.1.10) – for SAMBA
    Then I added cups and samba to DAEMONS section of the /etc/rc.conf file
    DAEMONS=(@syslog-ng !network @netfs @crond hal alsa wicd bluetooth laptop-mode !openntpd @cups @samba)
    copied Samba configuration file
    cp /etc/samba/smb.conf.default /etc/samba/smb.conf
    in which I changed only one entry – name of my workgroup, and then I restarted my system.
    In System Settings as root I went to Sharing→Samba and checked if everything seems fine – see print screen below.
    http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/300/samba1.png
    Then in Printer Configuration I chosed New network printer and I tried to fill all the boxes with information I have about my printer – see below. I also pointed to the specific .ppd file - /usr/share/cups/model/canonmp640.ppd.
    http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6650/samba2.png
    The printer name and it's localization I got from my router – see below.
    http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/3982/samba3.png
    As you all see on print screen No 2 I'm getting “Bad URI – need printer name” error from CUPS. I “googled” about it, but still haven't been able to solve this issue. What am I doing wrong?

    No hints??? I believe it's related to Samba. I don't know how to configure it properly, so it can find my WiFi printer.

  • ARIAL FONT IN REPORTS(WINDOWS), NOT SHOWN CORRECTLY UNDER LINUX

    Our Reports are developed under Windows (Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33 and Windows 2000/Windows XP) and generated under Linux (IAS 10.1.2.0.2 with Red Hat Advanced Server). The Report Output is a PDF, that will be downloaded by the user with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This works fine, but fonts are not shown correctly in the PDF, especially ARIAL, which is the font we use.
    I have run the Fontsolution Configuration Script from Metalink, but we still have a problem.
    When you look at the font.pdf, wich is the testreport from fontsolutions, some sizes and styles of Arial are printed correctly others not.
    Arial 8 is ok, but Arial 10 and Arial 12 are something like Times New Roman.
    Arial 12 Bolded is correct, but Arial 12 italic and Arial 12 bold italic are also not
    the Arial Font.
    How can we correct this problem?

    Udo

    # NOTES ON PRECEDENCE OF PDF SECTIONS:
    # If you have entries for a same font in many PDF sections, then Font
    # Aliasing entry will take precedence over Font Embedding entry. Entries
    # in Font Embedding will take precedence over the entries in Font Subsetting
    # section.
    # Generic entries for a font must follow more specific entries for the same
    # font. For instance, if you want to subset helvetica Plain, helvetica Bold,
    # helvetica Italic and helvetica Bold-Italic fonts, your entries must be:
    # [ PDF:Subset ]
    # helvetica..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of
    # helvetica font in the layout will be subset as helvetica Plain font.
    uiprint.txt
    # This is the printer configuration file.
    # The format for entries in this file is:
    # <OSName>:<Type>:<Version>:<Long Name>:<Description File>:
    # The first field is the name of the printer. It is the name you give
    # to lpq.
    # The second field is the type of driver to be used for the printer.
    # Currently, "PostScript" and "ASCII" are the only types of driver for
    # printers supported for now. But in future we may be supporting
    # drivers for other printer types.
    # The third field is the version of the type of printer driver. It's 1
    # or 2 for all PostScript printers; or 1 for ASCII printers.
    # The fourth field is a long description of the printer. This will be
    # presented to the user in the "Choose Printer" dialog window.
    # The fifth field is the printer description file to be used. For
    # PostScript printers it is the PPD file of the printer. (This field is
    # currently unused for ASCII printers.)
    # You can use default.ppd for the description file if you don't have a
    # PPD file for the printer, but it's best to use the correct PPD file
    # for the printer.
    # You must fill in at least the first two fields (printer name and
    # type). If the version is empty, it defaults to "1"; if the long name
    # or description are empty, they will default to empty strings. A
    # version of 1 or an empty long name is fine, but, for PostScript
    # printers, you must fill in the description file name.
    # You don't have to update this file to use any printer. The printer
    # chooser interface let's you select a printer and driver at run time,
    # as well as associate a printer description file to the printer. You
    # should list all printers accessible to users here, however, to
    # simplify selecting a printer.
    # The first entry in this file will be used as the default printer, if
    # no printer was selected in the operating system. (For Unix, the
    # following environment variables will be used in turn to get the
    # default printer's name:
    # TK2_PRINTER
    # ORACLE_PRINTER
    # PRINTER
    # For other platforms, see the Installation and User's Guide for your OS
    # for information on setting the default printer.)
    # WARNING: Do not define multiple entries for the same printer by the
    # same name. Selecting a printer with multiple entries will always result
    # in the first entry being selected. Instead, see if your OS allows you
    # to create an alias for the printer, and use an alias for the second type.

    If you want to make platform independent use of fonts, you have to use the family, such as sans serif.
    Arial is owned by monotype (http://monotype.com/). You have to contact them if you wish to redistribute it with your application. They also might have a suitable version that renders nicely under linux.

  • Problem with downloading a PDF file from a webserver run on Linux

    Hi,
    I've written a simple functionality that manages file attachments.
    Everything works fine (attaching, downloading, deleting) when the webserver runs on Windows.
    However when I deployed the code to the Resin webserver run on Linux and use the Win browser to connect to the app, the downloading of PDF file doesn't work (uploading and downloading of txt, doc, xls, jpg files is OK).
    The downloaded PDF file is almost twice as big as original (~28KB when original is ~12KB) and it can't be open.
    I guess it is the problem of writing to the output stream of HttpServletResponse but I can't localize the problem.
    Here is the code I use for downloading file:
    private boolean downloadFile(HttpServletResponse response, String filePath,
                   String originalFilename) {
         File file = new File(filePath);
         String contentType = URLConnection
                   .guessContentTypeFromName(originalFilename);
         // If the content type is unknown set the default value.
         if (contentType == null) {
              contentType = "application/octet-stream";
         BufferedInputStream input = null;
         BufferedOutputStream output = null;
         try {
              input = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file));
              int contentLength = input.available();
              response.reset();
              response.setContentLength(contentLength);
              response.setContentType(contentType);
              response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment;
                           filename=\""+ originalFilename + "\"");
                output = new BufferedOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
              int bufSize = 10000;
              byte[] buf = new byte[bufSize];
              int bytesNo = 0;
              while ((bytesNo = input.read(buf, 0, bufSize)) != -1) {
                   output.write(buf, 0, bytesNo);
              output.flush();
              input.close();
              output.close();
         } catch (IOException e) {
              log.debug(e.getMessage());
              e.printStackTrace();
    }Can you point any problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ala

                   output.write(buf, 0, bytesNo);
    This piece is completely wrong and doesn't work for files bigger than 10000 bytes. Replace it by
    byte[] buffer = new byte[10240]; // 10KB exactly.
    int length = 0;
    while ((length = input.read(buffer)) > 0) { // Read next 10KB of input to buffer.
        output.write(buffer, 0, length); // Write specified length of buffer to output.
    }Or just use output.write(input.read()) in a loop of the contentLength as you're alredy using BufferedInputStream/BufferedOutputStream.
    Another thing, the method is declared to return a boolean, but it actually doesn't? I would just let it throw an exception in case of failure instead of returning a boolean and let the calling method handle the exception.

  • Fonts issue on 10g Reports (Linux)

    A while back I posted some questions about installing fonts on Linux RHEL 5.
    Currently, I'm in process of upgrading Client/Server Forms/Reports from 6i on a Windows platforms to 10g forms/reports on a Linux RHEL5 platform. No database is installed on the server since we are using the TNSNames in the Network Admin to connect to the database.
    I have been able to convert all forms and all reports to 10g. I had an issue with the Arial, Arial Narrow, and Courier New fonts not displaying in output when I generated a PDF file via the screen using the WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT command. The fonts were translating. I was able to use Metalink Note 261879.1 and run the scripts to generate the AFM files and copy the TTF fonts to the appropriate directories. When I run the reports in 10g on Linux, those 3 fonts display just fine.
    However, I have 3 other fonts (Monotype Sorts, Arial Unicode MS, and one of Barcode fonts) that I need to get working. I've worked with Oracle Support and I'll be honest, the steps they are telling me either aren't very clear or just flat out aren't right.
    I've tried on Windows to use the ttf2pt1 program to generate the AFM files and copied those up to guicommon/tk/admin/AFM directory. I've copied the TTF file up to the associated directory. I've modified the uifont.ali directory to include the font, to no success.
    Has anyone tried to move a Windows font up to Linux (Unix) and got it to work successfully? If so, could you provide me some steps? I've really been trying to get this to work and would do anything at this point to get it to work. I've got about 5 reports that use these 3 fonts and if I get them working, I'm done.
    Please provide good detail, if possible. Oracle Support has just confused me more by providing notes to read and little tidbits here and there but haven't given me something that works in a straightforward manner.
    Chris

  • Localization problem

    I am running Oracle 8.0.5.1 on Linux Web-enabled by Perl
    DBI::DBD and Apache.
    The dadabase has been created in CL8MSWIN1251 charset and
    contains records in Russian.
    With appropiate enviroment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORA_NLS33 and
    NLS_LANG) set to the required values in perl scripts everything
    works snagless and Russian characters appear when accessing the
    database from a Web browser.
    The same is true when accessing the database via TELNET.
    But I cannot configure the Developer 6.0 components (like Forms,
    Reports etc.) to show the Russian characters at all - they are
    all being replaced by overturned question marks.
    So how am I to configure the Developer to recognize the charset
    (CL8MSWIN1251) used when creating the database?
    Please, help!

    I know how to add my location to Skyhook, and I would like to know how to tell Apple to add my location so that it works. As I said, it used to work, and still work in many places but in my home location. I have look at my Linksys router and found no setup for Location. I have connected my iMac directly to the Cable modem and activated Airport to share Internet without success either. Then the Localization in Date and Hour Time zone does find me either. For this I use only Internet through my ISP. A friend withe the same ISP has the same problem with his new iMac 27 in.
    I hope that Apple will find a way to solve this problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • WTK 2.5.1on Linux

    Hi I am migrating my development enviroment from windows to linux but I am finding some problems, here are three issues I have seem:
    1 =======================
    The scripts run.sh does not work to solve this I had to:
    1. change permission chmod 755
    2. change the file where it says:
    DEMO=demos
    put
    DEMO=Demos
    2 =======================
    I am trying to test a jar file using jsr75 to access cell filesystem it works great on WTK2.5.1 on windows but it stops when reading a directory on Linux the emulator asks permission to read the user press yes it goes when it asks again to read the contents of that directory the user press yes and nothing happens. I have double checked permissions on the appd/filesystem/root1 permissions even with chmod 777 it does not work. See that this same .jar works well on Windows WTK2.5.1
    3 =======================
    In the games demo the push-puzzle when play a sound it sounds too strange, as it was played fast foward
    =======================
    I am using netbeans 5.5.1 and wtk2.5.1 that came with it on Ubuntu 7.04 with kernel 2.6.20-16 and java -version returns
    java version "1.5.0_11"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_11-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_11-b03, mixed mode, sharing)
    ===============
    Thanks, hope to hear from you soon

  • Archwiz Script for installing Arch Linux

    I created a new Bash Script Project called Archwiz, located on  github flesh/archwiz ,
    its still in Beta for a few reasons, I never figured out how to get computer translations working in the script so I can Localize it, and I never figured out all the details to get an AUR custom repo working and lastly I didn't get the Asynchronous downloads to work right, so there are all disabled in this script.
    This script was a fork of another script found here Archlinux Ultimate Install Script.
    The Script itself has several files, the wizard.sh is a library, that allow programmers to use this library as an API for writing scripts, so its usefully to anyone that wants an API to write Bash Scripts, but the script itself scripts a script that is saved as configuration files, then executes the script inside itself, so you can look at all the configuration files before running it.
    The script was written for use by anyone, but mostly targets programmers like myself who need to setup a machine to use as a work station and want it set up a certain way every time, although this script is far from finished, I have a lot of tweaking to do to it before it would be completely there, but as it is, I can get up and running on a machine with little effort, so this make it ideal for a Linux Administrator who has to install thousands of OS's and have them configured all the same way, but works great for someone just wanting to install Arch Linux.
    The Project is Self Documenting and Self Localizing, although currently only English works, but the po files are there, so it would be easy enough if you wanted to localize it; but the computer translation function I started would be the correct way to do this.
    The scripts makes use of a custom repo, so remove it when finished, the script should do this for you, but just to let you know, it downloads the core to the flash drive, this way it can install very fast, once you install it one, it has all the files on it to install on another computer without an Internet connection, well at least that was my thinking, I never did get the AUR custom repo to work, but the idea is to have all the files on the flash so you do not need to use up bandwidth installing Arch Linux on a new machine, just install it, then run pacman updates.
    The Idea of a Wizard is to make the life of those installing an OS, much easier, they have the Option to do a Custom install, or a Wizard install, even an Automatic install to pre-configure machines.
    The script determines if you have UEFI Bios or not, and formats and configures the Hard Drive correctly, and gives you full control over the partitioning of the drive, within the bounds of the tools used, so its very flexible, it uses systemd, so boot time on my machine is 10 seconds flat, and that's because I mount a lot of network drives and map them at boot time, I got 2 seconds boot time with mounting, so the packages are not perfect, but they do work.
    I only tested GDM, since I installed every Desktop Manager and configuration for my needs, this was the only one I got to work for all of them, but I normally use KDE or Mate, but I ran into issues with Mate and went back to KDE, so I could get back to work.
    This script was designed to Format the Drive you install it to, so do not use this on a Partitioned Drive,  it will format the hard drive, so you are warned once more during the install, but this could be fixed, I had to abandon the project to finish another, so the script is as it is, but could give someone a great start if they want to folk it and finish it, so fork me.
    See the help.html for details.

  • Best localization strategy

    Hi Guys,
    Which is the best GEO strategy in UCM ?
    WE have a english version site in UCM. Now we are going to include Locale Site also ...
    We will be using same template in locale sites that we used in English site.
    Localized site URL would be wwww.example.com/fr/abcsection/
    on every template , we have header,footer n left navigation fragments , and contribution regions.
    Experts ,
    Please suggest

    Firstly, if I understood the question correctly, you would like to localize your sites created by UCM (Site Studio?), not UCM itself (it should be OK for both French and English).
    There are actually quite a few strategies how to do that "ideally", and I would suggest you to contact Oracle Consulting Services to help you to start.
    In general, it very much depends how tightly are translations linked together. Theoretically, you could have:
    - one element, which is translated to many languages. In this case, you might want to use some resource files containing technical names and translations and in the element just use a simple code to pick the correct translation. This is something that you could read in Ravenna standard demo (ask for Linux version, this could be given for free)
    - many elements/items representing texts in different languages. There is a component, I believe called Translation Workflows, developed by a Belgian consultant Jurgen Debedts ([email protected]) that enables linking these together causing that if a text changes related texts could be sent to workflows for translation. This is a little bit more complicated than that, because for longer texts you might want to have them sent to an external translation agency rather than to your employees.
    In fact, the "social" feature, ie. who actually does translations, is the more complex one, and there is an experience with it, so why re-inventing the wheel?

  • Jasperreport localization problem in WL 9.2.3

    Hello, all...I'm really baffled by this. When I deploy my webapp in Tomcat 5.5.27 my localization in jasperreport is working. But when I deploy it in WL9.2.3 (which is used in test environment and production), those special fonts for Thailand, Bangladesh & Cambodians won't render completely in PDF. I mean the paragraphs are like truncated. Can anybody help me out? This is supposed to be in production a long time ago if it weren't for this setback. Thanks.
    information that might help:
    - The iReport that compiled the jrxml files is version 2.0.3.
    - JDK150_12 is used to build the WAR (I used what's bundled in BEA WL).
    - All the special fonts are already in the classpath - needless to say.

    Mark White wrote:
    Presumable you have the default queue okay as in "Then, explicitly create the weblogic.kernel.Default execute queue from the Administration Console and reboot the server"?Well, the problem is precisely that the administration console doesn't show the option +"Queue"+ in the General tab, so it's a little complicated task :)
    Mark White wrote:
    and the server was down when editing the config.xml?I tried to create the queues definition directly in the config.xml file with no luck: both servers (managed and administration) were stopped, and no resident java processes were running at the moment. The config.xml rolled back again to its older configuration after starting the managed server, so we're starting to think that it's a configuration problem that prevents manual modifications of the configuration file (even with the servers stopped). Any ideas concerning this?
    Adding insult to injury: we have a Linux that shows the Queues option without problems following the same steps that we followed in Windows XP.
    Thanks again for your time. It's much appreciated!
    Jaime.

  • Arial font substitution for (LabVIEW for) Linux

    Hello,
    as LabVIEW was not capable of keeping the font size and spacing constant when running a VI under different Windows versions, screen resolutions etc, I have never used the "application", "system" and "dialog" font options in LabVIEW but have fixed all fonts to Arial 14 pt. This worked wonderful on all Windows systems - without that unnerving problem that control lables overwrite each other and things like that (what always happened when using LabVIEWs "application" font option).
    Now, when running the same VIs under LabVIEW for Linux, the font looks terrible, as there is no Arial font in Linux. Does somebody know an easy way to solve this problem without setting all fonts to "application font" in LabVIEW? For instance, any "ini file type" setting in Linux telling the operating system which font to use when Arial is not present, or any free font substitution that we could add to our installer routine that the operating system would use automatically instead of Arial?
    Best regards,
    Gabs

    Unfortunately, your problem is a version of a generic problem faced by GUI programmers of all types - how do you handle varying system fonts?  There are various solutions, based on who your customers are.  You are using one of the easy ones that works well until you start doing cross-platform development.  The main options are, in order or increasing complexity:
    Lock the font to a specific font and size.  This works well if your customers are limited to a single platform and are not visually impaired (do not want to use large fonts).
    Use system fonts and allow extra space.  This is a compromise that only works in most cases.  Use about 50% extra for small strings and 10% - 20% for larger strings.  This also gives you extra space for localization, should you need it.  Visually impaired customers will run into space issues, because large fonts can be 2X or more larger than the default, system fonts.  Note that the different Windows variants have different font sizes as well.  Windows Vista increased default font sizes, especially for some Asian languages, such as Japanese.
    Query the font size on entry into a GUI VI and rescale everything appropriately.  This is hard, since it must be done for every VI with a GUI.  Some system dialogs do not handle large fonts well, so you will probably end up replacing them with your own versions to get good appearance.  You could probably write a system to handle this sort of scaling, but to my knowledge, no one has (please prove me wrong ).  I have always used custom code when needed.
    No one really does this well.  Change your system font on a Windows OS to large fonts and note all the problems you run into.  I would recommend option 2, unless you have a lot of extra time.  Your customers will love you if you pull off option 3.
    More tips to help.
    Do your development on the platform with the largest system fonts.  If this is not possible, change the LabVIEW system fonts of your development system to match the largest size you support.  I usually develop using 13pt Verdana, since it is one of the largest of the variable spaced fonts.
    Check your work by using large fonts in Windows.  If it looks good there, it will probably be OK for most uses.
    Good luck!
