Locate duplicates not working

I tried running the locate duplicates in Address Book but it found nothing.  The fact is I have over 1,000 duplicates (ongoing problem).
Running 10.7.3 btw.

Funny, I'm seeing the same thing. Before updating to 2.0, my 32gb touch was able to identify the location of my office (in Center City Philadelphia) within a block. After the update, Google maps just gives me the spinning wheel forever. Before the update, if it couldn't figure out my location, it would time out after a minute or so with a message "Your location could not be determined". That never seems to happen in the 2.0 software. Yes, I have enabled location services.
It is a little annoying in some applications, "MyWeather" for example. It defaults to the weather in your current location, and it seems to consider that to be the most recent place where it was able to locate me. So every time I run that app, it assumes I'm still somewhere I was two weeks ago when location services actually worked!

  • Why does location services not work on my ipad2 with ios7?

Why does my wifi only iPad 2 location serves not work...worked for years, even when I traveled extensively and returned home. I loaded ios7plus and went out West for the holidays.  Worked out West and on return, did not...live in country and worked when I took it to Mickey d's six miles away.  Only change is ios7 and it's default to Apple maps.  Apple support claimed to have passed this to engineering, but despite my follow ups with them using my case number, they have left me in limbo with a silent phone.  This is very wrong and not the apple I have known...very frustrated.

Cause Wi-Fi only iPads do not have GPS receivers in them, nor can they use the cell towers for triangulating position. Best they can do is guesstimate based on the hotspots they are connecting to. They base their guess on a database of known hotspots, which can be incomplete, erroneous or wildly inaccurate. The  rise of the problem can be due to any change you or your ISP has done to the Wi-Fi setup you use.
If you need to depend on critical apps that require reliable Location Services, get Wi-Fi+Cell devices next time. They can be used without a SIM chip with no problems (and not paying for cell charges), but GPS will work fine.

  • Os x 10.9 location services not working on a 2008 mac pro

Maps and all other services that rely of my location are not working for me.
Do you have to have wifi for it to work?
I have turned on location services in sys prefs so that is not the problem.

    OS X 10.9
    Any help is appreciated.

I have to turn off wi-fi and use ethernet (to make sure I have the fastest speed – the ethernet-speed – all the time). Why can't I define a location for my external IP-address at this location, so that Maps can use that location in location services?
Seems strange that there is no way to set your location though. Manually I mean. It is a desktop not a laptop so it doesn't move around.
You can set the Network priority to Ethernet, so even if you have both Ethernet and also Wi-Fi connected, it will use Ethernet.
That way you can leave Wi-Fi on for location services, but use your ethernet connection for the speed.
Go to System Preferences > Network
Select the gear wheel at the bottom and select the Set Service Order. Drag the connections in the order that you want to be priority.

  • IPhoto '11 location pin not working

I just geotagged a bunch of photos in iPhoto 9.2.1 by adding a new location or moving the pin for existing locations in the small locations map in the Information pane of a picture / selection of pictures. After reviewing my changes I noticed that none of them got saved. I don't get the point of being able to move the location pin if the information I am providing (the correct location) does not get stored.
What am I doing wrong or why is this so user unfriendly?
I don't want to brag, but I wrote exactly this feature for a flickr competitor and it works like a charm. Uhmm... I mean it is the 21st century and geo metadata has been around for a while...

I actually have version 9.3 - would I still need this?
I may have solved the problem on my own... tried 'Repair Library' first, then 'Rebuild Library'.
It's importing the library right now but seems to be doing it with Duplicates.... I'm sure I will run out of disk space.  Any ideas?

  • System wide PDF presets location is not working in CC

On both Mac and PC, the system wide location for PDF settings (.joboptions) does not work anymore.
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings (on a Mac)
It is illogical to remove this feature. Even if that folder does not store the main default presets, which are now stored in each application, it still needs to be looked at and loaded from. It's actually illogical to store the same preset in multiple locations (i.e. each application). If there is a preset that is only for a certain application (e.g. Illustrator Default), this could be put in the application folder, but all others like High Quality, Prepress, PDF/X should be in a central location, i.e. where they used to be.
I know that each user can manually load into their own PDF presets, which then do appear in all suite apps, but this has to be done every time a new user logs into a computer.
The central location meant that all suite apps would see a custom set of presets automatically across the entire suite and across multiple versions of the suite. The other advantage to the central location is that the presets would appear in square brackets, in other words read only, so they cannot be changed by the user without saving as a new file.
Having users manually load and be able to change the presets kind of defeats the purpose of having a preset, certainly in our environment, where we need these settings to be consistent across all apps, all computers and all users.
Please put this feature back or at least honour the central location that used to be used.

    Hi,
As per the description, I understand that your Office 2013 cannot open files through a network share directly.
I would like to know that how many clients/users are affected by this in your environment. It could be some specific user account settings, that the Office applications are being affected by.
I'd first suggest you try with a new Windows user profile, then verify result.

  • Location Assignment not working

Hi Guys - Have I gone mad
I am trying to get Location Assignment working and appear to be having some problems.
My environment is Server Windows 2008 R2, Workstations XP SP3.
I have performed the following tasks.
    Created a Corporate Location
Created a Network Environment and assigned it to the above Location
Created matching criteria in the Network Environment which at the moment is the IP Address of my test Workstation.
Create a Location Assignment Policy and Assigned to my test Devices
When I look at the client agent, as I have permitted the Locations to be manually changeable, I can see both the Unknown Location and the Corporate Location. However no matter what Network Environment Settings I use I cannot get the Workstation to match my Corporate Location and the Agent always assigns Unknown for the Security Location and Unknown for the Configuration Location.
Am I missing a step or have I gone mad. Please help Im going round in circles.
    Regards
    Chris

I found out that this problem is NIC-related.
This is the NIC which is not working:
Intel(R) 82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection (HP DC7900 Small From Factor)
I then used this "Intel(R) Pro/100+ Management Adapter" in the same workstation and disabled the integrated NIC. That did the trick, the location was right now.
So this is a hardware-related bug.
What NIC are you using Chris? Maybe its the same one...
    Cheers

  • Why are my location services not working?

I received a new iPod touch yesterday, and it is now running iOS 5.  I can't get the location services to work from my home.  On my old 2nd generation touch, they work perfectly.  I've check all of my settings regarding the location services and everything is 'on'.

    Jim, Barry,
This for the replies. For what it is worth, I am confident all settings are OK, at least all the obvious ones.  I just cannot see what is missing.  In terms of what is not working, all Apps having a location option / button (Maps, Google Earth, etc) do not provide location.  For example, Maps will reply by showing a "Cannot determine location" message.  The same applies to the two iPads in the house and to whatever iPads enters on my Wi-Fi.
    Ideas?

  • Do not import duplicates not working

How can I import only new photos from memory card? the do not import duplicates checkmark  does not work anymore.

I reset the import settings to defaults, thinking I might have changed something inadvertently ( I am new at this), and now the checkmark for do not import duplicates cannot be checked ( for the past two weeks it could but it would still import all the duplicates)
This looks like there may be a problem with broken user preferences in your user account.
Test, if you can set the "Do not import duplicates" flag, if you sign in as a different user. Enable another user account for testing in the "System Preferences > Users& Groups", e.g. the "Guest" account, if you do not have a test account.  If the "Do not import Duplicates" is working well in this account, we'll know, that broken preferences files or other setings in your current account are probably causing this.
Then try to remove your user preferences as described in this document :   the Apple Aperture trouble-shooting page.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
    Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to ~/Library/Preferences
These files and folders need removing:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture
After removing the Preferences files it is essential to log off and on again, or to restart the computer, before you launch Aperture again.  Otherwise it may not take effect.

  • Location services not working on apps?

I didn't know where else to put this so I put it here.
I have an iPod Touch and an iPad and it's not showing my location on either of those.
It is turned on, so before you say that, yes. I'm not that stupid. It's also not restricted. It can't be a problem with my router because when I use my laptop, it shows the right location.
Why is it not working on my iPod and iPad? Please help me. It's incredibly frustrating because I use an app that requires location services and I haven't been able to use it because these devices can't find my location.
Does it have anything to do with a MAC address? I just changed my routers MAC address to "default" a few moments ago thinking that had something to do with it.
Just please help. It's worked before, but all of a sudden it just stopped.
Also, when I google "weather" on my iPod/iPad, it tells me where I am, but when I use apps, like Facebook, the popular apps near me, and Whisper, it says it can't find my location.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. It identifies the routers via their MAC address. So changing the MAC address is the cause of your problem
Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

after enabling location service in privacy and safari, still location service is not working. same way the findmyphone says that the macbook pro is online unable to determine the location and also time is not able determine location and auto update time. i think all is related to location service. tried resatrting , updating still not working. • My Location is not working with GPS

My Location does not update when trying to use GPS or VZW Location but updates fine with Google Location services.  It's not a problem with locating (seemingly), but that the phone won't even recognize that an alternative location service (to Google's) is selected at all.  This occurs with Maps and Weather (don't use other geo locating apps).
    Thoughts anyone?

kriegeritaville, I understand your concern. This can definitely be an issue when you are trying to locate an address and the GPS wont lock on to your location. It can be time consuming and frustrating. I performed some research in regards to your issue and found there can be many factors for why the GPS isn't working properly. Things that can be a factor are the area you located in, terrain, if your inside a building, software, or other applications on your device. Just like being inside can affect your call signal, this can be the same for GPS. If you search the internet, you will find that different android customers have noticed that when they have issues with the GPS, it is because they are inside or other applications are attempting to use the GPS for their location services. Sometimes other applications can interfere with the GPS locking on to your location. I'm happy your GPS still locates and directs you to the correct address but I do recommend removing apps your not using or turning off the location services for apps you don't need them for. All applications are different and you will have to go to the menu/settings to turn location based services off for those apps. YOu can also put your phone into safe mode, which temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this step can help determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue. I listed steps below.
Steps to put phone into safe mode:
    Press and hold Power button.
    Select Restart.
    Select Restart.
When the second HTC logo appears, press and hold the Volume down key+Optical joystick.
Continue to hold the Volume down key+Optical joystick until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen.
This may take up to 30 seconds.
While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem.
     Steps to disable safe mode:.
    Press and hold Power button.
    Select Restart.
    Select Restart.
Steps to ensure your location services our turned on for your GPS:
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
    Touch Settings.
    Touch Location.
    Touch VZW Location Services.
GPS / VZW Location Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    Touch Standalone GPS Services.
Standalone GPS Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    Touch Google Location Services.
GPS / Google Location Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    If prompted, select Agree.
