Locate referenced files for whole library?

Hello,
I have a referenced library (internal drive, iMac) with Masters (on an external drive). I made a back-up duplicate (finder copy) of that Masters volume, on another drive. Now I'm working from that duplicate copy of "Masters" (same name, spelling, as original "Masters", on a separate external drive).
How do I reconnect all 60,000 referenced files (from the duplicate "Masters" drive) with my library (on the iMac). I know how to do them one file at a time from the Aperture library (File > Locate Referenced Files) but can not figure out how to reconnect everything in one or two easy clicks.

Select a batch of images, and go into +Locate Referenced Files+ - just the same as doing one at a time. Match up one image from your batch with the file and then, instead of hitting the <Reconnect> button, hit the <Reconnect All> button.
Do a small batch initial until you get the hang of it, and then make a bigger selection and go and have a cup of tea...

I am trying to follow the Help Documentation item "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Master" (not sure if there is a way to post a URL to this) and I am not seeing what it is telling me to do.
I am going to Edit > Find and it is telling me to "Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser". Is this referring to a browser in the Aperture UI or is this in the Filter HUD display? I am not finding this.
Also, it saying that in the Filter HUD I should "choose File Status from the Add Filter pop-up menu, and select the 'File Status' checkbox." and I am not seeing this either. Does anyone know where this is at?
Lastly, I see that there is a command called File > Locate Referenced Files and when I run this I get a "No Referenced Files in the /current/ selection. I have realized that I don't quite understand whether I am running this search for a specific Project and/or whether I have to make a specific selection in the left hand pane when I run a FILTER HUD or whether this automatically defaults to search the whole database. Does it matter what I have selected in the current Browser View when I run either of these commands?

1. Just copy and paste the URL from the on-line User Manual. Very helpful. Are you on this page?

The instructions specify ONE of the following. Your question indicates to me that you are trying to do both.

4. The command -- like all commands? -- works on the currently selected Images. On the same page in the User Manual it says:

Problems "locating" referenced files after importing from iPhoto.

I recently began importing old iPhoto libraries to Aperture, mostly successfully, but have run into a couple problems locating referenced files. While the locate referenced files function worked for most of the photos, there are a handful of photos that, when I located the original file, the time stamp was different (by 2 hours in most cases) and it was about 15% smaller than the file Aperture was looking for. As a result, even though it was clear from the thumbnails that they were the same images, Aperture doesn't even give me the option to Reconnect them.

. I use the Reconnect All button, but it only finds the one file, even when there are hundreds more in the same folder that are unlinked.
Reconnect all works best, if you select all files that need reconnecting at once, and then select the first file in the list to reconnect. If the other files are in the same folder and are correctly named and match, then "reconnect all" should do it. But if the filenames differ, you will have to do it one by one.
Also, the files are all still correctly linked in iPhoto, but every single link is broken once I import it to Aperture.
You are importing with "File > Import > Library", correct?
That is supposed to work. Have you tried to repair your iPhoto Library before importing to Aperture?
Use iPhotos First Aid Tools to repair:
Try to repair the permissions, followed by repairing the library.
To launch the First Aid Tools, hold down the Command and Option keys ⌥⌘ while double-clicking the iPhoto library or the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
The iPhoto Library First Aid dialog appears. Select the Repair option you want to use - first "permissions", then "database".

Locate referenced files... bug?

First of all, I run a reference library.
Every single time I launch Aperture I must do a "locate referenced files". It never remembers the location of my files, even though the library is always on a drive connected to my system. This has been a persistent problem going all the way back to 3.0.
Now, prior to version 3.5, I could launch Aperture, do "Locate Reference Files", then select "Reconnect All", and it would re-connect my entire library. However, as of 3.5, "Reconnect All" never reconnects all. Instead, it ONLY reconnects the image I happen to be viewing. In other words, I must individually reconnect every single image I intend to edit, export, etc. This has become a nighmare. I needed to export 500 images for a client today, but I couldn't since I would have had to reconnect each file one at a time.
Another related problem: If the image I'm trying to reconnect happens to be a PSD file, it will trigger an error saying "unsupported format", then the preview image turns black and I can no longer even see the image. When that happens, the only solution is to launch Photoshop, export the image as a TIFF or JPEG, then re-import back into Aperture.
Prior to 3.5 I could "Reconnect All" as long as the image being viewed was NOT a PSD, and it would reconnect all files, including PSDs. As of 3.5, since "Reconnect All" is broken, it's impossible for me to reconnect PSDs without causing the "unsupported format" error.
To summarize:
1. I must reconnect every time I launch Aperture.
2. "Reconnect All" doesn't work as of 3.5. I can only reconnect individual files.
3. If I reconnect a PSD, it throws an error and turns the preview black.
Any ideas?

OK, well, after browing a bunch of other threads I found a way to make "Reconnect All" work, even though the process is different than it used to be. Here's how:
Open the search box and view by "Offline" files. Then select all images and Reconnect All. Bam. Not only that, it seems to remember the location when I launch Aperture.
I still think there's a Photoshop related bug, but for now I can live with it.
I guess my issue has been resovled.

How do you locate the file where iPhoto library is kept? I moved iPhoto library from hard drive to external dedicated photo drive.

I am trying to restore some elements of my iPhoto library using time machine.
Apple instructions call for locating the file where iPhoto library is kept, and tells you where it is on your hard drive. But I've recently moved my iPhoto library to a dedicated external hard drive, and copied my i photo library there. when i click on it, all the photos are there, but it's an iPhoto library, not a file.
When I go into time machine and click on the date i would like to enter, most of my apps have a circle with a line through it, unaccessible. So: a related question, how would i retrieve a photo file from time machine's previous backup? thank you.

I am trying to retrieve photo uploads from my Android phone. When I last updated my OS, most of these vaporized, leaving only thumbnails. I have had two lengthy sessions with Apple phone support, but still haven't solved the problem.
Apparently I can't go back to July '14 iPhoto in time machine and browse files; i have to copy the entire library.
Which I just did, taking 2 hours.
In order to open the iPhoto library from July '14, I had to first update iPhoto.
When I went into the files, the same problem existed -- photo files gone, only thumbnails there. So now I'm thinking that it's the update that was the problem. This scares me to death, because when we're asked to update, we don't get a menu of preferences to make sure something has been unchecked, like the copy option i had enabled when opening photo files from my phone, which i store in a dropbox folder.
No one at Apple could tell me why this happened, so I have no idea how to prevent it from happening in the future.
That's why I'm trying to create better backups...but i can't figure out deja vu, because it won't open and sync the iPhoto library folder -- it wants me to find the file, and i don't know where it is on the external dedicated photo drive.
I realize this is about six issues, not one. But I'm really appreciative of any help i can get!

Can't locate Referenced Files in Aperture 3

All my photo master files are in separate directories on a NAS (network attached storage; 4x1Tb) and I import Projects from that into Aperture on my IMac. I migrated my MAC Aperture Libraries to a separate external drive and lost some of the references to the Master. I can reconnect some Projects to the masters on my NAS, but not all. Some projects won't reconnect using Locate Referenced Files. I can find the files and match the photos and Aperture looks like it reconnected, but when I look at the separate images, I get "File not found." I know the original photos are on my NAS because I can see them using a separate PC hooked into it, but can't seem to complete making the link to the master. My intent is to move all masters into my Aperture Library because I can't stand losing photos this way anymore, but I need help making that link. Any ideas what's happening and what to do.
Even though I have the originals on my NAS, all my processed versions (4 and 5* photos) are in my Aperture Library and I hate to lose those.
Update: I seem to be able to connect one photo at a time, but selecting an entire set of Project photos and doing "connect all" doesn't seem to be working. I have thousands of photos and working one at a time is impossible.
How can I get help?

I migrated my MAC Aperture Libraries to a separate external drive and lost some of the references to the Master.
How is your NAS formatted, where your original masters are stored? And how is the external drive formatted that holds your Aperture library?
Your Aperture library needs to be on a drive formatted Mac OS X extended, Journaled. If the drive should not have that formatting, move the Aperture library to disk with the coorrect format.
If you cannot reconnect originals, that are clearly there, the reason may be, that your Aperture library needs repairing, see: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
I'd try to repair permissions and to repair the library, before trying to reconnect again.
Since you want to consolidate all originals in your Aperture library, I'd try to copy the originals that cannot be recoonected, to the same drive that holds yor aperture libryr and try to reconnect them there, then consolidate them from there. It can be, that the network connection of the NAS is not reliable enough.

Aperture won't locate referenced files

I get I dialoge box that says there are no referenced files associated with this picure but I spotlight finds it in a split second. Half of my pictures look blank after importing my Apeture library into my new iMac. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Aperture 3, iPhoto-08 and Locate Referenced Files

I usually import my photos to iPhoto-08 and work with my favorite ones in Aperture as Referenced Files.
After upgrading my hard drive and using SuperDupper to restore my system to the new drive, the referenced masters are missing. I have tried Locate Referenced Files but the problem is that the iPhoto-o8 Library is shown as empty which is not. Navigating the bottom panel in Relocate Referenced Files, iPhoto-08 Library only shows 2 folders: Events and Last Import, with nothing inside them.
Using Aperture iPhoto Browser I can see that all the files are in there. Using Finder I can see all my files under iPhoto-08 Library->Originals. No problem under iPhoto either.
The problem seems to be that Aperture doesn't recognize iPhoto-08 Library structure since I upgraded my hard drive.
Has any one had this problem? Any solution?

Locate referenced files problems

hi there,
i have a big problem with aperture "locate referenced files" dialog panel.
it doesn't allows me to select the source hd where files are stored.
i usually create new library and import files as referenced. but when you move them to another hd, and Aperture doesn't find them, it seems impossible to select the new source hd.
can anybody help me? it is a Aperture's problem or a conflict within Aperture and Os?
is a matter of the hard disk?

In the Info dialog, what is listed under "General➞Format"?

Fastest? Relocate Masters or Finder move with Locate referenced files

I have maxed out the 2 x 1TB drives in my MP dedicated to referenced masters, and I'm about to consolidate them onto a new 2 x 2TB drive setup. My question is which is the fastest solution for moving 1.5 TB of images on my current setup onto one of the new 2TB drives.
FYI, the new HDD is now connected via eSATA to an external housing, with write speeds of around 100 MB/sec. Once all data is transferred and relinked, I'll open the case and swap out the new drives internally for the old 1TB ones.
Is it fastest to?
1. Use Aperture's "Relocate Masters" fucntion. My question is how much extra overhead is involved with doing this via Aperture?
2. Do a Finder copy of the files, then once they are moved open Aperture and use the "Locate Referenced Files" to reconnect the images to the new HDD.
Has anyone done any speed tests on this? I have about 80,000 refernced images, so I'd like to cut the file transfer time down as much as possible.

Locate referenced file

To save space, I relocated a few projects to my network drive, using the file-->relocate original.
Now, I can't find a way to indicate in aperture where the original photo or project is located. I want to know if a given photo is located in the main mac hard drive, or if it is one of the photos I have relocated,
If I highlight a photo and select "locate referenced file" it says "The selection doesn’t have any referenced files.".
If I go under info for the phot and select file info, it just gives me the name of the file but not where it's located.
Where in aperture can I find where the orifinal file is stored?

Create a smart album with a rule based on the file status:
File > New > Smart Album
And add a rule:
File status is "referenced" ( or "misssing" or "offline")
That will show you the problematic images.

When I start the Admin and Managed server ..I get below warning message.

I know that weblogic server is unable to locatie datasource1.xml file at <SOA_HOME>/user_projects/domains/base_domain/config/jdbc
Is there any way to to get rid off from this error? I tried to delete datasource from weblogic Admin console, but get below error:
java.lang.NullPointerException
All changes have been activated. No restarts are necessary.
Errors were encountered while performing this delete operation.

Are you starting servers with the root user? make sure that using whichever user you are starting server, it has full access on MW_Home and it's sub-directories. You may consider raising a support SR.

Changing location of files in iTunes Library

Annoyingly, when my external hard drive died a month or so ago and I restored my iTunes library to a new HDD, I copied them to slightly the wrong location. Now when I try to play half of my library I get an error saying that iTunes can't find the file. This doesn't apply to all the old files in my library (ie the all the ones that were restored), but it's happened to at least 5000 tunes.
I need to change the file reference in the iTunes database from:
file://localhost/F:/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Music/Artist/etc
to
file://localhost/F:/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Artist/etc
I can edit the iTunes Library.xml, but when I then open iTunes, it gets overwritten with the old references in the iTunes Library.itl file. And I can't find a way to edit the itl file or import into it.
I've tried googling and mining the Apple support forum, but I'm not getting anywhere. I really want to avoid having to reimport the whole library (thus losing ratings and playcounts etc).
Can anyone help?

You can edit the iTunes Library.xml file and use the edited XML file to rebuild the ITL database.
This will keep all metadata except Date Added.
If you care about Date Added, your only option is to re-link the files one-by-one.
iTunes has to have an ITL file to open & run. There are 3 ways it gets one:
1) If no valid ITL file exists, it creates a new one (blank library) and ignores the edited XML file.
2) If it finds an existing ITL, it uses it and ignores the edited XML file.
3) If it finds a valid but damaged ITL, it looks for an XML file and tries to rebuild the ITL from that.
You need to edit the XML file like you did before.
Then damage the ITL. Open the ITL in WordPad, select everything, and hit delete. Save it with zero bytes (nothing) in it.
This will force itunes to re-create it by looking at the XML file.
Be sure to make a backup of the XML before doing this, in case you need to tweak the process of editing it.

Locate Referenced Files question...

Could someone help me sort this one out?
I have a total of 8407 images currently in Aperture (all referenced).
After I select all the images and then open Locate Refenced Files... it shows me that all iamges are online and there is a 0 under "Not Found" column. Sounds OK, but the problem is in this window it tells me that I only have 8396 images. All in the correct place.
How is it that I have a difference of 11 images? What do I look for or how do I solve this discrepancy?

Hi Jerry,
Images are never "referenced". Every Image has an Original. Each Original is either Managed or Referenced. Images may share an Original (for instance, multiple Versions from the same Original).
How did you come up with 8407?
How did you "select all the images"?
Have you checked for rejected Images?
Have you allowed for some Originals to be assigned to more than one Image?

Locating missing files in itunes library

Hello everyone,
I have an iTunes library with 177 days worth of music, and every now and then I try to play a track and a "!" appears, and I realize that some how I accidentally removed something from my iTunes Music folder at some point in the past.. So I go into time machine and find those files and recover them.
However, when I did this last, it alerted me that it relinked 2 of 160 missing files-- But I have no idea what the other 160 files are.
I did some googling, and found someone that gave a tip to find all the missing files in a library:
- create a playlist
- drag your entire library to the playlist
- create a smart playlist, and add everything that is not in the other playlist to it (this should give you a playlist of all missing files)
... I tried this approach, and dragging 177 days worth of music (over 11,000 tracks), I got the spinning color wheel.. Left the computer for a few hours thinking it just needed to process those... And I get "iTunes unexpectedly quit". I tried it a 2nd time, and got the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do in this case?
Is 177 days of music / 11,000 files just an amount that is too much for iTunes to handle, or is there something else wrong here?
