Locate scripts in 10.4.11

The update to 10.4.11 includes changes to the scripts which build the database used by the command locate. Attempting to execute locate results in the following error:
"locate: locate database header corrupt, bigram char outside 0, 32-127: 1"
Deleting and rebuilding the database using locate.updatedb appears to succeed but the error persists.
Any advice would be extremely welcome. The only hits a Google search turns up refer to patches suitable only for other OSs (e.g. openbsd).
GNU locate and the associated scripts (installed in usr/local with a separate database in that tree) are not affected.
Several new commands related to building the database are included in /usr/libexec and locate.updatedb is definitely different from the version in 10.4.10 but I cannot find documentation covering the changes or trouble-shooting the results.
Thanks.

I post this solution here just in case anybody else has a similar setup and runs into similar difficulties.
The new version of locate (10.4.11) uses environmental variables which the old version ignored. At least, it uses LOCATE_PATH. If this is set for, say, GNU locate then there was no problem through 10.4.10 - the system locate simply ignored the variable and used /var/db/locate.database. GNU locate, on the other hand, used the variable to find its own databases. In particular, this made it possible to have a more tailored version of locate installed as, say, glocate without interfering with the system command.
The version of locate in 10.4.11 will, however, read LOCATE_PATH if it is set. Since GNU locate uses an incompatible database format (apparently), locate will therefore choke on the input.
Alter the environment and locate works happily again. Too bad about glocate...
Appreciate the suggestions I've received here in any case.

  • Can SQLPLUS locate scripts on a hard drive??

    Using the GUI SQLPLUS (not the command prompt) how do I locate scipts on my hard drive that I want to run? A friend showed me that I can use the command prompt to CD to a directory then run SQLPLUS from within that directory using the command prompt as my interface to SQLPLUS. But is there any way to located scripts using the GUI SQLPLUS that comes with Oracle to locate scripts similar to the way its done using the command prompt?
    Thanks in advance

    File | Open will bring up a dialog that lets you search for scripts. You can also specify the full path to the script at the SQL prompt, i.e.
    SQL> @c:\oracle\ora92\rdbms\admin\catexp.sqlJustin

  • Wtk 2.5.2 location script

    I tried to play the location with 2.5.2 emulator. The emulator inserts a sentence after every sentence in my xml script.
    Is it possible to stop it from doing this?
    Thanks

    Try to read my post again, please, I think you misunderstood those problem descriptions.
    1. No package-list files - no javaddoc in eclipse 3.2.1. Just try it yourself and you'll see.
    2. You didn't tried do you? The Manager.class is there, but Cipher.class is still missing. That doesn't break anything btw, it is just weird :)

  • SO close - location script help

    Hi everyone! I am SOOOO close, Im off by a letter or a _root.
    or something! At least I think so. Anyhow, im desperate, and coming
    to you guys, those that know infinitely more than me. So I have a
    flash file with 2 scenes. Scene one is an intro, scene 2 is a
    "quiz". Pretty gay, but stay with me. The timer is in Scene 2 (quiz
    scene) The timer is a movie which loops over and over again until
    it reaches 0.
    I wrote a script in the timer movie that when the timer
    reaches 0, it will go back to the root of scene 2 and goto frame 60
    and play. No matter what I do, it goes to and plays frame 60 of
    scene 1 , not scene 2!!! Its driving me nuts! Any help? Below is
    the code I have for the timer movie:
    timerNum is the variable counting down the time alloted.
    Scene 2 is the Quiz Scene
    if (timerNum > 0) {
    gotoAndPlay(10);
    } else {
    tellTarget ("_root") {
    gotoAndPlay("Scene 2", 60);

    nope. Its odd. Anytime I try to specifically nail down the
    location for it, just spoon feed the location like this, it
    outright doesn't do it. In this case the timer just reverts back to
    120 and starts all over again. Its really odd.

  • How to locate Malicious or unwanted scripts in a Server 2008 R2 install?

    I am Managing two systems as part of a competition, Windows Server 2008 R2 and a Windows 7 Machine. The competition is the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.
    Part of my issue is i normally am very good at research but it's like i am unable to find this bit of info.
    I need Answers to several issues.
    1. Where can i locate Scripts at in Server 2008 R2?
    2. Assuming scripts aren't in one specific directory... Is there a Freeware Tool i can use that can locate and identify what they do? Such as tot ell em if they are malicious or dangerous.
    3. Is there a way i can block execution of any scripts in the system not created by a valid source?
    Thank you very much for your assistance, regardless if my questions are answered it is nice if i can at least be proactive and actually ask instead of keeping silent. Perhaps future competitors will be helped by this so they don't have to spend months locating
    it.

    1. It is very hard task. Strictly speaking you need baseline and compare every next situation with baseline.
    2. There is a base of nice and useful tools in Sysinternals
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb545021.aspx
    3. Basic study material is book written by Mark Russinovich - Windows Internals
    http://technet.microsoft.com/cs-cz/sysinternals/bb963901.aspx
    4. Expert hackers know how to hide script. Unless all files are digitally signed there is a non zero chance to get in (hypothesis).
    These are very special topics that are well behind the scope of this forum ( and my knowledge).

  • Zip code input to return location

    I am wondering if there is a spry tool that I can use. I want

    If you're in the USA and your server supports PHP -
    A to Z store locator is fairly easy to work with:

  • Activating Scripting on the Web Server

    I found this, but can not locate Scripting on the Web Server: Configuration page
    Activating Scripting on the Web Server
    To use scripting with a Web service, you must activate the functionality on the LabVIEW Web Server. In LabVIEW, select Scripting on the Web Server: Configuration page in the Options dialog box to activate scripting on the Web Server.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Eric LZ
    You are absolutely right, for LabVIEW 2009 scripting is activated automatically. More information about that could be found here. For LabVIEW 8.6 you'll have to follow these instructions. The above links are valid for VI scripting.

  • Script File comparison

    Hi,
    When I am using FileMerge and compare two different versions of a script file, it says "Files are not ASCII", if I 'proceed anyway' I am seeing lots of special characters.
    How can I do a better file comparison(.scpt)?
    regards
    Mowri

    Here's a very basic script that will accomplish what you're asking:
    <pre style="width:630px;height:auto;overflow-x:auto;overflow-y:hidden;"
    title="Copy this code and paste it into your Script Editor application.">set tmpDir to do shell script "mktemp -d /tmp/CompareScripts.XXXXXXXXX"
    set leftFile to tmpDir & "/left"
    set rightFile to tmpDir & "/right"
    set script1 to quoted form of POSIX path of (choose file)
    set script2 to quoted form of POSIX path of (choose file)
    do shell script "osadecompile " & script1 & ">" & leftFile & ¬
    ";osadecompile " & script2 & ">" & rightFile & ¬
    ";/Developer/Applications/Utilities/FileMerge.app/Contents/MacOS/FileMerge -left " & ¬
    leftFile & " -right " & rightFile & ";rm -rd " & tmpDir</pre>
    This script is very basic and has no error checking incorporated. Here's what the script does when run:
    1) Creates a uniquely named directory in the "/tmp" directory.
    2) Asks you to locate script file #1 (left file for FileMerge comparison).
    3) Asks you to locate script file #2 (right file for FileMerge comparison).
    4) Launches FileMerge and loads the 2 files for comparison.
    5) Deletes the directory it created in the beginning when you quit FileMerge.
    The script will continue to run until you quit FileMerge. The script can be modified in many different ways depending on the exact task you'd like for it to achieve. You can also modify the script to be a droplet so you can just drop 2 scripts on it for comparison.
    Hope this at least gets you started in the right direction.

  • Linked scripts not being found when I start up director

    hello;
    about 2 weeks ago I linked many of my director scripts, mainly the movie scripts and parent scripts, as they are often used by many different director applications that I build;
    however, now every time I open director I get several pop-up boxes  telling me that I need to locate scripts, maybe 4 or 5 scripts;
    and each time I open director I get a different set of missing links ( .ls files ), though I haven't changed anything in about 2 weeks;
    any thoughts;
    thanks,
    Shannon

    I may have found a solution;
    I am using mx2004;
    unfortunately I did not take screenshots of the procedure that I went through, so I will just describe it:
    when director opens and does not find a linked file, say A.ls, a look-for-file  dialog box pops; over the past several weeks I have been using this dialog box to locate the missing linked file;
    however today I hit cancel; and afterwards another dialog box, slightly different from the first ( looks almost the same but somehow different - sorry no screenshot ) popped up and again asked me for A.ls, and so I located it with this second look-for-file dialog box;
    afterwards, so far, I can open director without any missing link issues;
    EDIT ... I spoke too soon ... this is not a reliable solution;

  • How can I use the "EvalScript()" function? I am trying to send text to a Director app from the web browser, but the console in the browser just responds "Uncaught ReferenceError: evalScript is not defined ".

    I am trying to control a Shockwave app form another machine, using "Pusher" service (websockets), and everything is ok so far; but when I try to send the shockwave app the text recieved from another machine, using the "EvalScript()" function (as documented), I only get the message "Uncaught ReferenceError: evalScript is not defined" in the browser's console. What am I doing wrong?
    'm using the following script in the webpage where the shockwave object is located:
      <script type="text/javascript">
        // Enable pusher logging - don't include this in production
        Pusher.log = function(message) {
          if (window.console && window.console.log) {
            window.console.log(message);
        var pusher = new Pusher('abc963cf3e6g678879e');
        var channel = pusher.subscribe('Galileo_channel');
        channel.bind('Galileo_event', function(data) {
          evalScript(data.message);
      alert(data.message);
      </script>
    The "alert" is working fine, but I can't get JavaScript to recognize the EvalScript (I even tried calling the shockwave object, ie: "extev01.evalScript()", since the object's ID is extev01, but it doesn't work, either).
    Help!

    Thanks Sean.
    I tried your suggestion first, using getNetText to poll the server and read a text file. The drawbak is that I had to poll the server constantly, since I could not know in advance when the text file was going to change (and it's not practical to stump the server and connection).
    I've kept trying the EvalScript, asigning the Shockwave object to a variable first, then calling the EvalScript() in the object, but it doesn't work, either. I think I will simply use JavaScript and forget about shockwave altogether, since everything is working fine up to that point (although it would be nice to be able to use Lingo for the rest of the app).

  • Is it possible to search the client for a file in WebDynpro?

    Hi,
    I need to check inside a WebDynpro application wether a
    file exists on a client or not, befor showing or listing it.
    I have a UNC-Name for the location (e.g.
    servername\dirname\filename.extension).
    Another task would be to browse this directory for all other existing files and dirs and list them.
    Is this at all possible with WebDynpro?
    Or would this only be possible by using the filesystem of
    the applicationserver (e.g. mount the dir on the filesys)?
    Is it possible to launch a client-located script (like VB-Script or such) in WebDynpro?
    (e.g. to search the dir, create a text-file and read this text-file).
    Or are these concepts totally against the security-policies
    of web-based applications?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alf

    Hi Alfred,
    generally web applications run in a sandbox on the client.
    That means that they have no access to the file system.
    To get access you need to install a certificate on the client:
    You create a key with the Java-Tool "Keytool" and sign the application (or the applet) with the Java-Tool "Jarsigner".
    That generates a *.cert file wich you now have to export from the parent system and import onto the client (with Keytool).
    You will find many detilled instructions for this procedure in the internet.
    Unfortunately I don`t know how it works with Web Dynpro.

  • Upgrading FDM applications from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2

    We have freshly installed FDM 11.1.2.2 on a new server and I am trying to migrate our existing 11.1.1.3 applications. I first need to upgrade the scema for these applications. The documentation for this procedure is scarce but I was able to do the following:
    - Copied Application folders from FDMDATA in source (11.1.1.3) to target (11.1.2.2).
    - Opened Workbench in 11.1.2.2 and chose 'Add application' and added the application by referencing the app path to the newly copied files and new DB and schema information.
    - Ran the schema upgrade utility for the newly added application. I am now able to open the new application successfully in 11.1.2.2.
    My problem is that I need to import the .XML file with all of the application elements such as locations, scripts, adaptors, etc from the old 11.1.1.3 FDM server. When I try to do this, it says that the .XML file is from an old schema and it cannot import it.
    I am sure I missed a step somewhere to get the XML file upgraded but I am not sure where. How can I upgrade the XML file itself?

    All the application elements etc such as locations, mappings etc will have be contained in the 11.1.1.3 DB schema which you ran the update on so no need for the XML file. Things such as scripts are contained in the application directory structure you copied accross so you have those as well. As for the adapters you will need to import and register the latest version of the adpaters which are compatible with the 11.1.2.2 FDM release and configure them as appropriate to refrence your target systems, so you don't need to import from the old XML for that. In short you don't need to import the XML file as part of the migration activity.
