Locating pictures used in Screen Saver (Previously loaded)

I've noticed that the options for screen savers such as Beach, Cosmos, and Abstract are quite interesting and was wondering if it's possible to locate the folder where these images are stored. I would like to use them as a background if it's even possible to discover their location. Thanks.

Hi there,
this is an easy one
Just go to "/System/Library/ScreenSavers/" and right click on one of the
screen savers. You will see a contextual menu, showing an entry "Show contents".
Select that and then in the open package go to "/Contents/Resources/" and you have
access to all the pictures the screen saver uses.
Kind regards,
Robert

I am trying to use my iPhoto pictures as my screen saver on my mac book air.  Many of the pictures' heads are cut off.  How do I get the pictures to fit the screen properly without the pictures be distorted?

Open the screen saver control panel. Right above the preview window there's a popup menu. You'll probably want to set it to "Fit to screen" so the pictures will be resized to show on the display.

Thanks for sharing, but you are not addressing Apple here. This is a user-to-user forum.

Maybe you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar, my iphone works just right.

  • HT4858 How do I limit a photo from being shared on photo stream (using as screen saver on Apple TV, but don't want family photos shared in presentation)

I am attempting to use my Apple TV and Ipad for a public presentation and want to show business pictures on the screen saver, but I don't want personal family pictures shown. Is there a way to limit these photos or set up an album for the screen saver on the presentation?

Put the photos that you wish to use for your presentation or screensaver into a photo stream shared album and then choose that album as your screensaver in your screensaver settings.

  • IPhoto Album pictures differ in Screen Saver selection

When selecting an iPhoto Album as a Screen Saver, the Preview picture pane often displays pictures in other albums. Also, in certain albums, only one picture in that album displays continuously.
I hope this problem is fixable.
    Thanks for your help!

Hello Albert & Welcome to Discussions,
Very simple fix. Go to SystemPreferences>Desktop & ScreenSavers.
Once there click Screen Savers and uncheck, Use random screen saver.
Now click "Choose a folder" and select the folder you want to use for your screen saver. Now, click Options and make any changes you want.
Now, after all that is done go back to Desktop and make sure you choose the same folder you're using for screen saver and let it create the photos. Then,
click on any image and a pull down menu will appear that allows you to make changes to the way the pictures appear on the desk top...ie Full Screen, tile and so on.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated

Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated. After "Start screen saver" elapse time has been reached, a blank black full screen is displayed. I can activate the selected screen saver by using the hot corners function. Any help with this matter will be greatfully received.

    Hi again sassey,
You're assuming correctly. Simply change the settings so that your screen saver activates before the sleep settings.
    Hope this solves your problem...

  • Using a Screen Saver

    Hello,
I just recently got a new iMac - 21.5. Anyway, I was wondering if it was necessary to use a screen saver with this new LED screen?
Anyway, I was just wondering if it's ok to just leave it sit on the home screen for extended periods of time, or if I should set a screen saver after 20 minutes or so?
    Thanks!

    Hey Hoff81
Screens savers just eat into system resources and really don't do anything to extend the life of the display, if anything they do just the opposite.
Just set the display to sleep after 10 to 20 minutes +(whatever you decide)+ and/or use an Active Screen Corner in System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Expose and put the display to sleep before you get up.

  • Will I be able to use Forest screen saver in Yosemite?

In preparing to upgrade to Yosemite on an iMac at home running OS X 10.6.8, I discovered and started using the Forest screen saver under OS 10.6.8.
Is there any way for me to use the same screen saver after the upgrade to Yosemite?
I noticed on my new office iMac that Yosemite did not offer the desktop called Aqua Blue that I've used on all of my computers up to Mavericks. Aqua Blue was available under Mavericks, but I couldn't find it under Yosemite.

I'll continue to answer my own question: Success!! Yes I can use the Forest.slideSaver jpgs within the Yosemite Screen Saver.
First,  I made a backup copy of the System/Library/Screen Savers folder to another location on the OS 10.6.8 computer’s HD prior to upgrading to Yosemite. I did this by holding down the option key while dragging the entire System/Library/Screen Savers folder to another location.
The Yosemite upgrade went without a hitch, that I can see. Indeed, Yosemite is much more responsive on this 2011 iMac (w/ 8GB RAM) than Mavericks is on a mid-21012 MacBookPro (w/ 4GB RAM). I still have several applications that need to be updated to run under Yosemite, but that’s for the future.
All of the following was done under Yosemite as the OS.
A Google search for the .slideSaver file format provided a MacWorld Hint of how to create your own screensaver, intended for a previous version of the OS. This involved the use of Terminal. I am not comfortable with UNIX, so I did not follow its instructions except for learning about doing a right-click (control-click) on the file to view its contents. Worked like a charm. I was then able to Show Package Contents which enabled my viewing of the Contents/Resources/ where all of the jpgs resided. I used shift-select to only select the desired jpgs within that Resources folder and then option-drag to make a copy of the jpgs into another folder on the HD.
Within Yosemite's System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver one has the ability to select a folder somewhere on the HD that is the source of the images that will be used for the screen saver. I selected my newly created folder of “Forest jpgs”  with Shuffle slide order checked and set it to use the Ken Burns version.
Voila! I’ve replicated the Forest.slideSaver screen saver from Snow Leopard on Yosemite.

  • HT1349 how to put a picture as a screen saver

    how to put a pict
ure you have in your computer as a screen saver

The following are the basic steps to use your pictures for the OS X screensaver. Start by placing your pictures in either the Pictures or another folder of your choosing. I am going to assume that you will place them in the OS X Pictures folder.
Control or Right-click on the OS X Desktop, and then, choose "Change Desktop Background."
    Select the Screen Saver tab.
    Click on the plus button.
Select Add Folder of Pictures, and then, choose the Pictures folder.

  • Can not use default screen saver with this version of Mac OS X

    Hello,
I created a 10.6.4 image on a Mac Pro that I have installed on a new 27" iMac. Every thing works fine, as expected, except the screen savers (all Apple default). All screen savers appear in the list when booted off the Mac Pro, but when booted off the iMac, all but 2 disappear (Computer Name and Flurry). Also, the ones listed under Pictures show up, but when I try to use one it says "Can not use 'screen saver name' with this version of Mac OS X - Contact your vendor."
Also, the flurry screen saver runs extremely slow.
Unfortunately, I don't have another iMac to compare versions with, but I've compared with a new Macbook Pro and they are exactly the same. Is there a cache or a pref I can flush?

The old screensavers were about the first things that didn't work when moving to Snow Leopard, so my guess would be the iMac is booting in 32-bit vs 64-bit mode (or whichever mode is incompatible with your screensavers).

  • Can't use my screen saver while using front row for music?

When I work I have my computer on the desk next to me, usually I have music playing and my very large image library running through my screen saver. I used to be able to start up my music using the remote, going through front row. I'd start up the music and back out. It would just return to my screen saver at that point.
Now when I try to do that, I can't back out of front row without also backing out of my music. It's kind of annoying... I mean, I can just start up itunes and go from there, but it was a nice function that I really got used to.
Does anyone know of a setting that I can adjust that would allow me to do this again?
    Thanks

The way it used to work, I'd already have my screen saver running, I'd open front row from my remote, and just start up itunes through that. I'd never actually see the itunes app because it would just open on the toolbar. As soon as I backed out of front row it would automatically go right back to the screen saver while still playing my music. All from across the room.
Now I have to go over to my computer, open up itunes, start that up, windowshade it to the dock, then hot corner my screen saver again. All sitting right at the desk.
It was a nice convenience. I don't understand the loss. At least give us the option to open it in the background in preferences. I've always appreciated the fact that Apple let us use our computers the way we like. This just seems counterintuitive.

  • When I stream airplay all I get is sound and the picture of my screen saver regardless of what is on my screen.

I get sound on my TV when using airplay but only an image of my screen saver not what is on my computer screen.

Well you can save your time powering off your apple TV, Turning on and off your airplay and Apple TV,shutting down your laptop and restarting none of that works.

  • Leaving iChat open while using the screen saver?

I like to put my computer in screen saver mode and lock it when I'm away from my desk but don't want iChat to log off. Any ways to leave it from doing so? Thanks.

    Hi!
iChat will stay logged in as long as there is an active internet connection. To prevent a disconnection, prevent your mac from "Going to Sleep", and you should stay online.

  • How can I slow down picture frequency on screen saver?

I use an iPhoto smartfolder as slideshow for screensaver, but it shifts the picture every 2 seconds, which is far faster than I want it. About 30 seconds watch on each picture would be fine, Is there no way to change this setting on Mountain Lion?
